An Adventure in Herbology
Silias gazed quietly at the plant. He didn't know what kind of plant it was, but he doubted that it was something dangerous. The plant was small, like a Bush. It sat in a small clay pot, which was partially covered by the leaves growing out from the plant. There were many of those. The leaves were shaped much like the leaf of an Oak Tree.
Far more spectacular were the flowers. They were a stunning shade of scarlet, bright enough to remind Silias of a cherry. They drew his eyes to them, as they would draw anybody's. They transfixed him, sort of.
He figured that must be the magical attribute of the plant. After all, Hogwarts wouldn't be storing it if if didn't possess some sort of magical quality, and Silias couldn't figure anything else strange about it.
Silias tilted his head, continuing to gaze at the plant. Eventually, his eyes wandered to other plants in the greenhouse.
Silias liked plants. He always had. See, plants don't talk. They don't make a fuss, or try to start a conversation. Silias had always felt that they were his partner in silence.
A silence soon interrupted. Silias heard someone walk into the greenhouse behind him, making no attempt to keep the tranquility Silias had come to the greenhouse for.
Silias's hair immediately stood on end. Who was this visitor? A professor? Silias didn't know what class he was supposed to be in. He was too afraid to ask, so he had just come here. What if he was in trouble? Was it a student? Students always wanted to talk, make friends. Or enemies.
Student or professor? Silias wasn't sure he could decide which was worse. He gulped down his terror. And began to count down from five. 5...4...3...2...1...
Silias turned around, and barely had time to recognize the visitor as a student before he started spouting off words. "Oh, hey. You must be here to look at some plants. Oh, don't let me get in your way. Do you like plants? You must like plants. I like plants."
Silias froze after the last sentence. He had said all this very fast, and very awkwardly. He paused. "I mean... Hello."

An Adventure in Herbology
Leila walked down to the Greenhouse quickly. She had woken up this morning and decided that she needed some air. The best place to find it, she was told, was in the Greenhouse. So she had left the castle after breakfast and made her way through the grounds. She eyed the forest critically. She badly wanted to know what was in the forest, but she also knew that students weren't allowed in there for good reason. Still, she figured she could sneak in at some point during her time here.
Leila entered the Greenhouse, not expecting to stop someone there. She had been humming a Muggle tune that she had loved but came to an abrupt halt when she saw a boy looking at a plant. The boy turned around after a long time. She knew that he had heard her when she first came in, because he had tensed up. So why had it taken him so long to turn around?
Leila was about to apologize for being loud and introduce herself when the boy began sprouting words.
"Oh, hey. You must be here to look at some plants. Oh, don't let me get in your way. Do you like plants? You must like plants. I like plants." He said before freezing. "I mean... Hello."
Leila smiled at him a bit, more confused than anything. "Um, hallo. I just came here for some fresh air... Although plants are nice, I suppose. I am looking forward to studying some of them. But, my name is Leila. What's yours?"

Silias listened to the girl's reply. "Um, hallo. I just came here for some fresh air... Although plants are nice, I suppose. I am looking forward to studying some of them. But, my name is Leila. What's yours?"
She seemed nice enough, Silias supposed. She had smiled when she had spoken. Smiling was always a good sign. "Silias. Silias Perea."
He looked down at his shoes, avoiding eye contact. He paused for a moment, as though trying to remember something. "What was... Oh, yes, sorry, fresh air! That's what you wanted." He looked around awkwardly.
"Fresh air. Yes. Probably fresher in here than in anywhere else. More fresh than the air in the basements, definitely." He seemed to realize he was rambling.
"My apologies." He thought back to his conversational classes. You always started with the name. It was polite to greet someone by their name. What came next? Ah. Yes, He rembered. House.
"If you don't mind me asking, what House are you from? I'm a Gryffindor, according to the hat, but I don't find myself to be very brave." He caught himself again. "Anyways, what house are you from?"
He mentally scolded himself for his rambling. He continued to look at his shoes, never glancing up.

Her mind was racing as she looked at the boy, Silias, she thought to herself. He seemed nice, if a bit awkward. Her eyes widened briefly as she heard that he didn't think that he was supposed to be in Gryffindor.
"I feel the same way! I'm a Gryffindor too. I don't know how we haven't seen each other around." Leila exclaimed softly. "I always thought I was going to be a Hufflepuff. Sometimes I still think I should be." Leila looked around her awkwardly. When Silias didn't say anything, or even look up, she kept talking.
"Um, my brothers always used to tease me that I was going to be in Hufflepuff." She rambled. "Almost all of them were in Gryffindor. Well, five of them were. Only one of them was in a different house. He was a Ravenclaw."
She walked over to look at the plant that Silias had been so interested in when she had entered the Greenhouse. It was beautiful. The flowers were a beautiful scarlet. They were the exact shade of the bed hangings in her dormitory.
"Um, how have you enjoyed Hogwarts before?" She asked, turning back to him. She really hoped that he would speak or look up soon. She didn't think she had much more to say.

Silias glanced up. "It's fine so far. I haven't been here long. Only a couple of days, really. It is funny that we haven't seen eachother around, though. I guess it must just be all the classes. Not that I... Well, this is my first day of classes, and I've forgotten my schedule already. I'm supposed to be somewhere now."
He turned to look at the plant again. He looked like he was about to say something when the door opened again. In trotted three students, probably second or third-years, all wearing robes that brightly displayed that they were Slytherin students.
"Oh," Silias said. "You."
One of the boys, who seemed to be the leader of the trio, stepped out, remarking, "What are you doing here? Sniffing the flowers?" The two other boys chuckled in response.
Silias shook his head and sighed. "Such lowlifes that you can't even make a proper insult." He got a slap across the face in response.
Silias slowly took two steps backward, continuing to talk. "You know, you really shouldn't do that. It isn't very kind of you. And you know how many professors there are in this school. If I were to just call out, one would probably come running."
As he said these words, Silias slowly drew his wand, hiding it behind his back so as fo avoid it being noticed.
Silias wasn't an idiot. He knew he didn't know any spells suitable for the situation. At most he could make one float, or petrify them. But not much more. And he couldn't deal with three bullies at the same time. He glanced around the room, considering his options.
Leila! How could he have forgotten? It appeared that the bullies had not moved on to bother her yet. He took a deep breath, and counted down from five as he continued to spout words.
5...
"I really could, you know. Get a professor."
4...
"The Herbology professor. She's just a greenhouse away."
3...
"Why do you do this anyway?"
2...
"I didn't do anything to you."
1...
Silias gave a quick glance over to Leila. He could only hope that she had her wand ready. Silias spun around, pointing his wand at a pot (holding a plant with less desirable properties than the red-flowered one), shouting "Wingardium Leviosa!", and using the spell to throw the pot at the leading Slytherin student.

Leila jumped as she heard new voices. Looking away from Silias, she noticed three boys entering. They were rather taller than she was and she quickly took just one step back. Leila gasped audibly as one of the boys slapped Silias. She looked at the other two boys, grateful that they hadn't heard her reaction.
What was she supposed to do now? How could she get them to leave Silias alone? She didn't really know any spells yet, and she was still really small. Leila noticed a small movement from Silias and looked in confusion before it dawned on her that he had drawn his wand.
Silias glanced around the room and finally, his eyes landed on her. It was as though she didn't exist. None of the boys had noticed her and Silias had even forgotten she was there. She gave a small huff before turning back to the situation at hand.
Leila backed away from the situation more. She panicked, forgetting all about her wand. She instead grabbed two empty pots from the wall. She waited as Silias seemed to just ramble on and on. Finally, he pointed his wand at a flowerpot and sent it flying through the air until it hit the first boy.
At that, Leila immediately stepped forwards, throwing one flower pot and then the other at the two other boys. She hit her mark both times.
She was immensely grateful her brothers had taught her how to throw.

An Adventure in Herbology
Silias breathed a sigh of relief as he saw all three Slytherin students collapse as their heads came into contact with clay pots. He turned and said thanked Leila.
The brief feeling of relief was immediately followed by terror. What if he and Leila were caught? Like he had told the Slytherin students, there was a professor just a greenhouse away. Silias wasn't even supposed to be here. He was supposed to be at a class somewhere. His heart rate rapidly quicken.
He looked back at the unconscious students. "We should probably attempt to not be found here," he said, turning back to Leila.
Silias scolded himself in his mind. His first day of classes and he had already gotten himself into a fight. That didn't bode very well. Then again, the Slytherin kids got what they deserved.
Silias placed his wand back into his pocket, next to a quill he kept with him at all times. He took a last glance at the plant behind him, blessed with the scarlet flowers.
He began to walk toward the door, stepping over the arm of one unconscious student. He aimed to be quiet in his exit.
He slowly opened the door, wincing at the creak accompanying the action. He stepped through, onto the bright green grass outside. He took a deep breath, making himself look as calm as possible.
