Attempting to contact @Jacob Thorley across the classroom
Viva felt like she was going to fall asleep. She was leaning on her desk, resting her chin in her hands as she tried valiantly to keep her blue eyes open. So far, she was losing the battle. Today, the first year Hufflepuffs had double History of Magic with the Slytherins. The professor had launched into a long lecture on gargoyles once they had come to class. Normal History of Magic was torture for Viva, but double? Practically unbearable. She had nothing against the professor, of course. In fact, she thought the professor was quite a lovely person. No, it was the subject that bored her to death. She grumbled under her breath. Why did they have to learn about some stupid gargoyle strike? When were they ever going to use this information? And the worst part was that almost all the work was book work. She quite enjoyed Charms class because of all the practical things they did in that class, and all the spell work. History of Magic was mostly listening to lectures and reading from the textbook.

Still grumbling, Viva turned her head to look at the other side of the classroom. It felt unbearably hot in the room, even thought it was barely the middle of March. She tried to pay attention to the professor's voice, but it was getting increasingly difficult... suddenly her head snapped up. Was that Jacob? She had spotted his messy blonde hair across the classroom. She and Jacob were tentative friends now, after a little argument they had about magic and blood status and all. Viva remembered their mutual dislike of History of Magic class, and had an idea. Stealthily reaching into her book bag, she drew out a small piece of parchment. Dipping her quill in ink, she paused, thinking, before scratching out a message.

JT~
I doubt I can last another minute. I might nod off in the middle of the lesson... what about you? Be careful a gargoyle doesn't get you.

Viva smiled to herself for the first time all class. She figured Jacob would know who it was from, because, after all, he probably didn't have a lot of non pure-blood friends. She rolled the parchment into a small scrunched up ball, then puzzled on how to get the note to him. In the end, she decided to just take her chances. Viva lined the parchment ball up carefully on her palm, then with her pointer finger and thumb flicked it as hard as she could in Jacob's direction. She felt a rush of success as the note landed squarely on his desk. It had flown so fast, the teacher could not have noticed.

History of magic. Jacobs favourite class, it was so incredibly exciting. And that excitement was ever so evident on Jacobs face, as he stared blankly at the front of the classroom, his parchment absent of any notes, his ink pot still sealed, and his quill tucked away in his bag. Why should he care which Gargoyle did what, to who and why? He felt somewhat for the Professor, as no longer how good a professor was, he thought it'd be impossible for him to ever show even a modicum of interest in this subject.

He began to tap his foot idly against the floor, slumping back into his seat with a loud sigh, he tried to shift around to find a comfortable position for the next two hours. Which genius had the idea of giving them a double of this subject of all things? Potions, sure, that make sense, but History of Magic? Jacob would never be able to comprehend the thinking there. Just as he was about to find a comfortable position, when suddenly a small, folded piece of parchment suddenly landed on his desk, causing him to somewhat jump in surprise. He glanced around sheepishly, hoping no one had noticed his little jump. As he glanced around, his eyes settled on a familiar side profile, causing him to grin as he unfolded the small piece of parchment, his free hand reaching down to find his own quill in his bag. He unsealed his ink pot, dipping the quill before quickly getting to writing out his reply.

GD-
On the same page as you, I'm about to wilt away any moment.. I don't know which genius thought to give us a double of History of Magic, what's the point?
Don't worry, though! I'll be incredibly careful the Gargoyles don't get me. Want to play a game or something? I don't know what, but it might make time pass faster.

He folded the parchment carefully, placing it atop his palm, before flicking it as hard as he could, in a very similar manner to how she had passed the initial note. Just as her note had, his note folded piece of parchment soared quickly through the air, before landing on the edge of her desk, sliding the last few cms to the centre.

He sat slightly up more in his seat, lazily beginning to take some notes, to at least pass as doing some work, whilst he awaited a reply.

Flicking some more paper at @Jacob Thorley
Viva started to smile as the crumpled piece of parchment landed on her desk with a small thunk. She turned her head to look in Jacob's direction, and saw him writing slowly on a piece of parchment. He's taking notes? Yeah, right. She opened the note slowly, trying to not make too much noise, and read it. Suddenly, she snorted really loudly. Horrified, she covered her mouth and looked up at the professor, looking sheepish. Once the professor had gone back to their lecture, Viva looked back at the note, trying not to giggle. Other students were looking her way now, she would have to be more inconspicuous.

Dipping her quill in her ink pot, she thought for a moment, glancing around the stuffy classroom. She turned the parchment over. Her smile grew, and she pressed her quill to the back of parchment, which was blank. She quickly scratched out a reply to Jacob's message.

JT~
Maybe the point is to bore us to death. Who really knows what these professors are up to? And it depends on the game...?

Viva almost giggled again, but managed to stop herself just in time. She took aim, and the parchment ball flew across the classroom, barely making it to Jacob's desk this time. A girl to her right turned and looked at her sharply, and Viva innocently pretented to be flicking a piece of fuzz off of her robes.

Jacobs note taking did not last long at all, a loud snort from across the room ripped away his attention. He glanced around quickly, grinning once he eventually realised who had made the noise. He turned back to his notes, lifting his hand to cover his grin as he once again tried to focus. at least somewhat, on what was being taught. He had a feeling that shortly there would be another note flying across onto his desk, which he was much more interested in waiting for.

Sure enough, just as he had expected, another piece of parchment landed on his desk, and he was quick to unfold it. The grin on his face widened as he read it, quickly moving to rest his face in his hand to cover his grin, not wanting to look suspicious by grinning in the middle of this class, as that would certainly look very suspicious, especially in History of Magic, of all classes.

What game could they play? He wasn't really familiar with any note games, he'd only ever had tutors, after all, and never attended any kind of formal schooling prior to Hogwarts. So, he quickly set about to scribbling down his reply.

GD-
Think you cracked the code, the Professors are definitely trying to bore us to death. They are all simply so evil.
I don't really know any games we can play on notes though, I never went to a school before Hogwarts. I assume you went to a muggle school, what games could they play there?

Once more, he quickly folded the piece of parchment up, before flicking it across the room, and back onto her desk.

Asking @Jacob Thorley a deep question
Viva repressed a grin as she opened Jacob's note. She read it through, then began to ponder her response. The parchment was now getting quite cramped with writing, so she reached into her bag to grab a fresh piece. Dipping her quill into the ink pot once again, she wrote her message. She was a little slower this time, really thinking about what to say.

JT~
I really do believe they have secret meetings... to make all their devious homework plans and such. Hmm. I don't really know a lot of games either... I never passed notes at my old school because I had no friends to pass them to. Maybe we could ask each other questions? Like, to get to know each other! I'll start... Ready? What is your worst fear? Hehe, yes I'm starting with a deep one. Have fun.

Viva flapped the parchment in the air a little, trying to dry the ink discreetly. She then rolled it up into another ball and lined it up on her palm in the direction on Jacob. Flick! The note landed perfectly on his desk again. Viva smiled to herself and leaned back in her seat, waiting her next reply.

Jacob looked back towards the front of the class room with a sigh, idly jotting a few more notes down onto his main piece of parchment. As fun of a distraction as it was to talk to someone across the classroom, flying pieces of paper wasn't the most efficient form of communication, that was for sure. There would always be brief lulls between the notes when his attention, unfortunately, was brought back onto the class.

Thankfully though, a few moments later, the note fluttered back onto his desk, and he unfolded it quickly. As he read it, his free hand idly dipped his quill into his ink, pondering over his answer.

GD-
I agree that the homework is a coordinated effort, and an act of pure evil. I don't really know what I'm scared of though, to be honest..
There was a few ink splurges, Jacob having evidently been stumped over this question, and taking his time to reply, his quill slowly dripping ink over the page as he thought. I don't really like small spaces, I guess. That or bugs, I don't like bugs either, but both aren't huge fears, just.. Best avoided for me. A question for you.. Do you have any insecurities?
Your Pureblooded Friend.

Jacob slowly folded the paper back up, not entirely convinced by his own question. After a moments hesitation, he simply launched it back over the classroom, landing squarely on her desk.

Getting insecure about insecurites (lol) and trying to find a good question to ask @Jacob Thorley
Viva tried to pretend she hadn't just jumped as the note landed on her desk. Looking around sheepishly to make sure no one else had seen, she realized this probably wasn't the best way to communicate during class. Oh well. She unfolded the parchment, read it carefully (taking note of the ink splotches), and sucked on her quill before writing an answer. It took considerably longer this time.

JT~
I don't like those two things either. So... if they aren't fears, then what? You're fearless? Huh, good for you. Wish I was fearless... Anyways, back to your question. A simple yes should suffice. Yes, I have many insecurities. But I'm assuming you want more details. I will just say this, a girl ALWAYS worries about how she looks. Always. And a few other examples of my insecurities might be: insecure about my blood status, insecure about my home life and my father, insecure about my friendships, insecure about my panic attacks. Yes, I am obviously very insecure. It looks worse when I write some of it down. Ok, changing topics. Next question! What makes you really angry?
Signed, Your Half-blood Friend

Viva sighed as she scrunched up the parchment, not quite sure why she was telling him all this. Oh well. It was her fault for starting it, frankly. She had written so much that the parchment was getting cramped with black ink again.

Jacobs foot began to tap impatiently against the floor, a combination of boredom from the class and somewhat excitedly awaiting the next note making him feel quite restless. However, thankfully, it wasn't long before a reply came, landing back on his desk softly. He unfolded it quickly, reaching down to pull another sheet of parchment out of his bag, brushing the now crowded note to the top of his desk.

As he read it, he began to frown. He'd questioned his question before even passing the note, worrying it was potentially insensitive, and it seemed like his worries had been somewhat validated, given she had listed so many insecurities.

GD-
I don't think fearless is the word, I just haven't encountered anything that's made me feel genuinely scared, just a few things that have made me very uncomfortable, like the things I mentioned in the last note. I don't really understand why girls fuss so much about their looks, and panic attacks sound pretty bad. Maybe I should have thought of a better question.
I get kind of annoyed at myself a lot, when I mess things up. If I'm casting a spell, or something, I want to be able to do it perfectly. If I can't do it perfectly, I get annoyed with that. I guess some of my old tutors made me angry too, trying to make me do work that I didn't like.
Next question.. What's your best memory from before you came to Hogwarts?
Your Pureblooded Friend.

He carefully folded the new piece of parchment over, before quickly dashing it across the classroom, and onto her desk.

Giving really deep thoughts to @Jacob Thorley
Viva read the note through carefully, before replying. She took her time on this note, going back and rereading it several times as she wrote.

JT~
Panic attacks are bad. Don't recommend them. Anyways, I try my best never to get angry at myself. Sometimes, I am frustrated by my own choices, but I don't let myself get angry. Also, not doing things perfectly is a problem for me, too. You know what someone once told me about that? 'Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.' Don't get caught up in making things perfect and - as a result - never get anything done. It was good advice. My best memory? I would say when I found out I was a witch, except I'll never forgot the look on my father's face of pure agonized longing. He hated me because I had magic, and I never realized why until I was older. So, that was not my favorite memory. Hmm... maybe when my father was gone for a day because he had broken his leg and had to go to the doctor, and I was home with my mum. Just the two of us. It was wonderful, we made tea and chatted and read books outside. For once, I felt like a normal kid.
Here, there was a small tear splash. Viva embarrassedly wiped her face, pretending to have gotten dust in her eye. My new question is: Do you have a motto? And if you don't, what would it be?
Signed, Your Half-blood Friend

Viva leaned over and flicked it towards Jacob once again.

Once more, a note slid onto his desk, and Jacob was quick to unfold the note, reading it through slowly and carefully. He really was not on a hot streak with these questions, and he glanced over towards her with a frown, upon noticing the smudged tear splashes.

GD-
More you say about your Dad, the more he seems like an idiot Sounds like a nice time with your mum, at least.. Shame about the other circumstances, I guess. He probably deserved it though, from what you've said. Not too great with knowing what to say around those situations, to be honest with you. I don't really know about a motto, though, that's something I'd have to think about a bit more. My family have one, which is something to do with strength, pride and purity.. Typical pureblood stuff, my mums family would have one too. Personal though, I really don't know. What about you, do you have one? I'll try think of one whilst I wait for yours.
Signed, Your Pureblooded Friend.

In a now very practiced motion, Jacob quickly folded the parchment over and threw it across the classroom as quickly as he could onto her desk.
