Blithe Fingers, Lithe Feet Locked

Illowy tucked some hair behind her ear as she poked her head into the deserted rehearsal room. It wasn't often that she was able to find a decent bit of time where she truly had nothing else to do, but with her work finished, and everyone seeming to be off doing something better, it was her chance. Slipping into the room and shutting the door tight behind her, the first year felt herself finally relax.

Resting her violin case on a chair, Illowy sat herself on the floor with her bag, pulling out her dance shoes. She then tugged off her normal shoes, as well as her jumper and jeans, having had a loose t-shirt and leggings on under. Was it quite necessary to sneak around like this? Possibly only to her, it was. Things like her art and her music, she liked keeping very private. Only her family had ever been let into that world of her's.

Pulling her dance shoes on, she kicked her bag back up against the wall. Then, gathering her thick waves of raven hair into a high ponytail, she returned to her violin case. Gently, as though handling a dear friend, she brought out the instrument. Of all her possessions, she figured this might be her true pride and joy. It had been a gift from her mother not long before leaving to Hogwarts. The wood was still shiny and new, with intricate engravings of ivy tracing the edges, like the illustrations from old English texts.

Lifting her bow, she thoughtfully tuned it, listening carefully as she made her way to the center of the room. With one last test of her strings, she smiled to herself and closed her eyes; and with that, she was off. Her fingers easily danced on her strings as she danced her way around the room. While she would never call herself well trained, her dance classes were one few social activities she had always enjoyed outside of school. Ballet, contemporary and step had always proved to be her favorite, and it showed as she threw bits and pieces of each together harmoniously in her dancing. Though it hadn't occurred to her until the past couple of years, after coming across a certain American violinist, that she thought to combine both her love of violin and dance together.

This was part of Illowy's own little world as fingers flew and feet never hesitated. If she fumbled or made a mistake, she refused to let it show as one. She certainly felt rusty, having not been able to practice nearly as much as she used to when she was home.

Lost now to the world around her, going on without notice of the door opening quietly; giving someone a rare glimpse of a different side of the Slytherin.

[ you'll be my favorite if you can guess which violinist I'm talking about]

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

This day has been way too long, River thought to herself as she put down her last parchment of homework. It had, indeed been long and boring, and quite difficult to get through. Still, it was not over, it was way too early to go to bed yet. So what should one spend the rest of a bad day with? I’ll go and dance for a little. If a day had been bad, River’s absolute favourite thing to do, was spend some time with music, and just let it all occupy her mind.
She sat quickly up and went over to her dance bag, made sure everything was in there, trew it over her shoulder, and strode off.

It was quite a walk to get to the rehearsal room, but River knew the path very well. Alright, just down this corridor, and, there it was. The door into the rehearsal room. River carefully put her ear up to it, trying to hear if anyone else were inside already. She couldn’t hear anything, but she believed the room was soundpfroof, right?

She put her hand up to the door handle, and carefully pushed the door open. She was hit in the face by music. Beautiful music, definitely a violin. River loved violins, but she never had the chance to learn how to play one.
River stepped inside, there was a girl there, she was dancing too. Playing and dancing at the same time? That must require some serious skill, River thought, very impressed by the girl. Her combination af dance and the violin, reminded River of an artist she had seen before. What was her name again... Lindsey Stirling?
The girl didn’t seem to have noticed River entering yet. Should I just walk in? She contemplated leaving the girl to her own, as she seemed to be very much lost in the music, River knew that feeling way too well, and being ripped out of it was never great.

Oh, come on, just say something!
«Uhm, Hello?», She started carefully out into the room. «I’m very sorry to interrupt your playing. My name is River. It’s very beautiful by the way, your music, and your dancing too», she continued, hoping she didn’t seem annoying or weird. She was after all, here for the same reason as the other girl, at least almost the same.

Hi! I will guess that the violinist you are talking about is Lindsey Stirling?
Correct me if I am wrong :)

You got it! lol I love her! Also, I'm sorry, Illowy isn't always the nicest at first :sweatingbullets:

For a moment, everything felt quiet in her mind and normal and right.

But only for a moment.

A voice spoke up, seemingly out of no where as the music abruptly stopped, the violin falling from its position at her shoulder, and Illowy turned mid step to find some girl just standing there, yammering on. A faint blush crossed her cheeks at having been caught. How long had she been standing there, just watching her? The raven haired girl shifted uncomfortably, blue eyes looking the stranger up and down as though she were watching a dog stand up on its hind legs to do the cha cha.

"Thanks..." her tone was somewhere between a question and statement. Her expression practically questioned the girl's presence altogether as the Slytherin stood there, waiting to see if the other was staying or going or going to keep talking; however the dance bag in her hands suggested the girl had intended the afternoon for her own time there. Illowy wasn't good at the whole 'making friends' thing. The few she had acquired, she wasn't exactly sure what she'd done to collect them. They just seemed to stick, and she'd yet to decide if she liked it or not, being so use to being on her own.

Adjusting her grip on her violin, the brunette took her bow into her other hand so to smooth back a tress or two that had fallen from her ponytail and started back towards her things. No one could ever just give her two seconds of peace. Granted, she loved Hogwarts and she was enjoying herself, but true time alone seemed scarce.

Tenderly, but quickly, she started putting her instrument back into its case, "Whatever... the room's yours." she muttered. Illowy couldn't explain why she didn't like people seeing her dance or play, she just knew the second people heard her or saw her, she just wanted out of the situation as swiftly as possible.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

The girl abruptly stopped playing, and just looked at River. She definitely felt like she had stepped in on someones personal space as the look on the her face was not very welcoming. River did recognize the feeling of wanting to get away from these types of situations, and sure enough, the raven haired girl started heading over to her things. She hadn’t said much, only thanked River for the compliment, still it didn’t seem like she fully apreciated it? Well, she was really good at playing, whether she realized so or not.
«whatever... the room’s yours.»
The girl said, as she started packing her violin away. «What?! No, you were here first, I’m not going to chase you out if you want to be alone», River quickly said, hoping the girl would stay. She had all rights to be there, and River didn’t want to be the reason she left. «I was never too comfortable practicing around others either, so I fully understand if that is the case», she smiled carefully over at the girl. «And I only just got here, but from the little I heard, you have absolutely no reason to feel insecure of your abilities», she tried reassuring the girl, oh no... am I talking too much again? River had a bad tendency of talking too much in certain situations.

River remembered when she would be rehearsing her dances, and her mother came into the room. She’d just stop, there was no way she’s be able to continue with her mother standing there. It didn’t matter how many people told her good things of her dancing. She just felt so uncomfortable. River didn’t want to bring that on the girl in the room, but she was afraid she’d already done so...
