Brendetta Thompson was born to wealthy muggle parents Bryce Thompson and Julianne Thompson. She has a sister Catherine Thompson and are told they don't look like sisters as Brendetta takes after her father who is white while Catherine takes after her mother who is black. At the age of four, Brendetta's mother ran off with one of their butlers, leaving Brendetta and her then two year old sister in the care of their father.
Brendetta and her father have a strained relationship. Bryce Thompson was a jittery and anxious man who didn't know anything about interacting with children, so Brendetta matured quickly and became the mother figure to her sister. Bryce is a marine biologist and was rarely home due to his work.
Brendetta was a genius mathematician and won many Olympiads. She wasn't really close with anyone to call them friends but was polite enough to other students that everyone knew her.
The first sign of magic that she did was make a girl fall face-first into a puddle of mud when she insulted her sister. She ruled that off as coincidence. Then, she had accidentally made the family baboon, Bon Jovi, disappear for a while because he was being too loud. The major sign of magic she did was make her father's paper's fly around to get his attention during one of his rare visits.
When she was told she was a witch, she was terrified. For once, she was thrown into a world were logic wasn't real, where she didn't have a sure chance of succeeding. But, her sister was happy for her. Her father wasn't there at that time. He was later informed through an email sent by Brendetta. Brendetta was crestfallen when she found out Hogwarts wouldn't have Mathematics but she interested in Defence Against The Dark Arts and Charms. Maybe she'll learn a spell to shut Bon Jovi up.
