Maze a-maze-ing Group 10 Closed

@Rosie Turner

You are teleported to the heart of a maze. It is obvious that you as well as your peers have been magically teleported to this space. The air here is full of colors, illusionary butterflies flit past you. You see one fly right through a classmate and then flutter off. The instructions here were simple, find a partner and traverse this maze but beware, errant adventures turn out to be the fool. Yes, it would seem that this is a place for both tricks as well as treats. This year’s maze was fairytale themed, if one would have read the muggle-books, they would find the things here rather... familiar as if they were teleported right into the book itself, a fairytale come true for some. Those that had not read the books would simply find this a normal maze.

As you look around you notice that there are 4 paths that you can take. One to the North, one to the South, one to the East and One to the West. Moss covered flagstones mark the paths of this natural maze. Which way will you pick.

Options:
A.) Travel North
B.) Travel South
C.) Travel East
D.) Travel West

The usual 200+ word count rule has been reduced to 60+ words. You and your teammate(s) must stick together. If you are unable to make a decision which path to take by the end of this week, either the majority decision wins or a roll will be done to determine your path.

Action success, spells and physical attacks for example, are determined by a d20 roll accompanied with your stats. Results above 14 will be considered successful while anything less is not. Quote your actions and stats in your posts for easier reference.

[quote]You have until 26th April to get your posts in as well as decide on your route to take if you have not done so already. At least 2 players are required for the maze to continue. If an additional layer has not posted by the 26th, the maze with continue without that player. Should only one or no player(s) post by then, the group will be eliminated and therefore will not be able to continue.

Rosie hadn’t gotten a reply from Howie. She almost didn’t show because of it. That was until she’d heard about how he’d taken the pencil and dashed from the room. It was because of that one action that she found herself here at the predetermined place, waiting for the maze to start and to see if Howie, at least, would show. There was a third, of course, but it was someone she knew very little, but had agreed for her to join.

Rosie scanned the students milling about. She could have sworn she made eye contact with someone who looked a lot like Howie. Taller, of course, with shorter hair. But at practically that same moment, she was teleported away.

Coming out of it, it took her a moment to steady herself as she leaned her hands on her knees. The witch didn’t think she could ever get used to that. Finally, she stood again to take in their surroundings.

A butterfly flitted by. Rosie held a finger out for it to land in but it flew right through. The girl smiled a genuine smile the first time since arriving back. It was enchanting.

She turned, looking for another butterfly , but instead found her team mates, specifically Howie. Instant blush accompanied by a wave. “Hi.” Now what? “Want to head north?” Smooth, Rosie. Smooth.

WOW! That was amazing Were Lavinia’s first thoughts after the super cool teleportation that did make her feel a little woozy. But she got herself together and started to look around at the wonderful sight she had been teleported to. There was a beautiful purple and blue butterfly that was flying around and then decided to fly through Lavinia, she jumped back in shock and ran her hand through the butterfly it was illusionary and just apart of the maze.

Getting back to the question of what direction to go she found who she thought was Rosie and told her ”Hi I am Lavinia the one you agreed to join you and I think that we should head east or west since a lot of other groups are probably going to go north or south. I prefer east but you guys can make the whole decision.”

Continuation from Here

Howie walked quickly across the grounds, the warm spring sun beating down on him as he made his way to the designated spot. He could see the tall hedges that made up the maze walls as he approached the campgrounds. Checking the note one last time, Howie waited at one of the exits.

Small groups of students walked past in twos and threes, his eyes scanned them, looking for the red curls that were burned into his memories. His right hand laid in his pocket, gripping his wand in case this was in fact a trap. It would have been almost impossible for his enemies to know of Rosie, she had been gone a long while, but his foes were clever and he had learned never to let his guard down.

A few moments passed, no curls, no attack. Shielding his eyes from the sun with his left hand, Howie turned around to look the other way. A flash of ginger caught his eyes. His hands would fall to his side as his blue eyes met those oh so familiar green, a look of disbelief would splash across his face. Reaching into his back pocket he removed the pencil, holding it out in front of him for her to see.

Then there was black. Just as he was about to call out her name, the whole world flipped upside down and spun into darkness. It would have been terrifying had it not lasted only a split second. His feet hit the ground hard, causing him to stumble a little, taking a few dizzy steps like someone exiting a pub late at night. Howie shook his head to clear his mind and vision. An onslaught of colors met his eyes. It was as if he was walking through a rainbow, the air itself seemed to be dyed all the colors of spring. Colorful but translucent butterflies floated around him, some flying right through his body. Looking around he spotted two girls, one a stranger, the other anything but.

Her cheeks flushed red as she gave an awkward wave. “Hi...want to head north?”

What! The spark that Rosie may remember in those blue eyes was no where to be found as they squinted at her, a scowl crossing Howie’s face. All the time that had passed, not a word of contact in months and her first words to him were this! His hand squeezed against the pencil as a flash of anger and resentment tore through his chest. If she was paying close enough attention, she would hear it snap.

“It’s been a long time Rosie...” his voice would carry his anger and just as he began to talk, the other girl spoke up.

“Hi, I am Lavinia, the one you agreed to join you and I think we should head east or west since a lot of other groups are probably going to go north or south. I prefer east, but you guys can make the whole decision.”

Howie swallowed his words. Now was not the time to “catch up.” He turned his eyes toward Lavinia, they would show no kindness to the stranger. They were all now deep in the maze and the only thing left to do was try and get out.

“Name’s Howie. I don’t care which way we go. East is fine by me.” He grumbled.

OOC: Hey Lavinia! Nice to meet you. Just wanted to say that Howie has many IC reasons for being mean and rude. It’s just his character and please don’t take it personally!

“It’s been a long time Rosie...”

Rosie's heart hit her stomach at the words. She'd heard a snap too. It could only have been the pencil that she'd seen just before they'd been teleported. She studied him. Saw... something there. She had to say something more... "Howie... I don't live with my parents anymore." Hopefully, her meaning was clear. Though her meaning, of course, could have been lost in all the teenage fury come from Howie. In the current light, the scar just below her eye- a scar that bore a stark contrast to the burn scars peeking up above her clothes- stood out. She fell quiet after that single statement. It wasn't the time or the place for that conversation.

Instead, she turned away. What, in God's name, had she been thinking? She didn't voice it, but suddenly she was very much regretting the maze idea. "I'm so so sorry." She knew that she'd hurt the boy... even if it hadn't been intentional, the pain was still real. A breath taken, she closed her eyes to focus on not dying, as that seemed to be a common thing around here.

“Hi, I am Lavinia, the one you agreed to join you and I think we should head east or west since a lot of other groups are probably going to go north or south. I prefer east, but you guys can make the whole decision.”

Rosie nodded over the idea. "East is as good as any other direction, I suppose. And nice to meet you Lavinia." Rosie forced a sad smile the other girl's way. And now there was another innocent that would have to deal with the Howie/Rosie drama. Poor girl. "East it is."

She hazarded one last glance at Howie, taking in how much he'd changed. Her eyes welled a bit, but she blinked them back before shaking her head and turning to head East.

Lavinia had a feeling that this was going to be awkward bit of time as she took a step back from the two. She a stranger to them was in the middle of some weird reunion and it seamed as though the last time they talked something bad must have happened. She looked up and saw the guy named Howie who grumbled at her with cruelty in his eyes.

“Name’s Howie. I don’t care which way we go. East is fine by me.”

Well that was a bit rude thought Lavinia but she knew that she had to get along with these people to make this work so she said; ”Hi Howie nice to meet you I hope we can get through this maze and that’s great that you are good with east.”

She then decided to let discus whatever it is they were discussing and she took a small step away from them but first the red haired girl Rosie spoke up.

"East is as good as any other direction, I suppose. And nice to meet you Lavinia."

Lavinia liked this girl and she was very happy that they had decided to go the same direction so she said; ”Great let’s head east” as they all started toward the east path...

Howie opened his hand, letting the pieces of the pencil fall to the ground at his feet. Overhead the clouds shifted, a ray of light would fall upon Rosie’s face. Again, Howie would look into those green eyes he had once cared for so much, but with the lighting, he would see much more. Peaking out over her clothing he saw the burn scars.

A fresh wave of heat would rise from his belly, but this time it would not be for her. His anger would target those that had let this happen to her, the Professors that took them to the crypt and the damned Gryffindor boy who had set the room ablaze. The memory was terrifying. He had laid trapped, buried under ground, but the whoosh of the flames haunted his memories still. The sight of her unconscious body, lying in a smoldering heap on the floor. Had it not been for the actions of another student, she may very well have died then and there. It was the last time he had seen her.

As their eyes met, Howie would see another scar. This one directly under her right eye. It was not from any burn. It did not have the bright and fleshy colors of the others, but was dark and appeared to be from a deep wound.

“Howie...I don’t live with my parents anymore.”

He took a sharp intake of breath as she spoke. Could it be that they were responsible for this injury? His hands would ball into fists at the thought. They had always disapproved of her and her magic. Afraid of their own daughter for something she couldn’t even help. How bad had the situation become? She turned away from him, breaking their eye contact.

“I’m so so sorry.” She turned to address Lavinia. “East is as good as any direction, I suppose. And nice to meet you Lavinia. East it is” Rosie took a few steps in that direction, casting a brief look in Howie’s direction. Her eyes shone bright with emotion.

Howie would take a couple strides towards Rosie, his long legs filling the gap quickly. Reaching out he would grab her arm just above the elbow. Although he was angry with her, his touch would be not carry that emotion. His grasp was firm but gentle.

“Rosie wait.” Although he controller the way in which he touched her, his voice would still carry resentment as he spoke in a harsh whisper. “Where the hell have you been. The last I saw you...” He paused. Howie knew she would know of what he spoke. “No contact! Not even a letter! I was worried sick! And what’s happened to your eye? Did someone hurt you?” His mind spun as he emotions flared.

Lavinia’s voice reminded him of her presence. He quickly released Rosie and turned to face her, his eyes flashing with irritation.

“Hi Howie, nice to meet you. I hope we can get through this maze and that’s great you are good with east.”

Howie cleared his throat, trying to suppress his anger. “Yes, great indeed.” Epic fail! “Why don’t you lead the way.” He gestured with his hand, letting the younger girl walk in front of him. The group would soon begin their adventure.

The general 30 stat points would be distributed equally across the categories for Rosie Turner as she has not acquired the updated 4 category stats.
You and your partner(s) decide to go EAST, after a rather short walk, you are met with a crossroad that appears to have three paths of exit. Straight ahead, about mid-way there is a path marked with these same flagstones and directly ahead you would see a wall of bushes showing the terminal point of the path ahead, perhaps the trail takes a sudden turn or perhaps it was a dead end or another door awaited. To your left is a path that appears to end with a perfectly round bright green door left ajar. It would looks like something like the cottages doors in the hobbit. Your other option was to your right is another doorway this one carved from cavestone leading into a tunnel.
Options:
A.) Continue Down Path (East)
B.) Through Hobbit Door (North)
C.) Through Tunnel (South)

Rosie's eyes went wide as Howie closed the distance between them and she took an instinctive step back. But his long arm caught her anyway. “Rosie wait.” She met his eyes waiting for him to say his peace. “Where the hell have you been. The last I saw you...” The girl froze, still traumatized from the event. But the next place the conversation went didn't make things any better. “No contact! Not even a letter! I was worried sick! And what’s happened to your eye? Did someone hurt you?” Her hand went to the scar in effort to hide it, but it was too late.

"Howie... It wasn't up to me." She sighed. But her thoughts were interrupted.

“Hi Howie, nice to meet you. I hope we can get through this maze and that’s great you are good with east.” Rosie smiled kindly at the girl as Howie released her arm. She fell into step along side Howie as they walked just behind Lavinia. Her mind wandered and her mouth remained closed for a bit. "We need to talk, Howie. But not here. I'll tell you every thing, I promise."

As they came upon their next choice, Rosie looked at each option one at a time. "If we continue straight, we need to toss something at the stones.. make sure there's no traps." She jerked her head towards the hobbit door. "Looks quaint. Probably a death trap." It was the third option that made Rosie grab Howie's arm and squeeze."Any where but the tunnel." She looked at Howie in an almost rising panic. The last tunnel she'd been in had almost killed her.

Her big green eyes looked up to find Howie's and she drew a steadying breath. After a moment, she turned to Lavinia, "Please not the tunnel. I... I hate tunnels."
