Muggles were bloody odd. Anastasia had spent her Friday afternoon reading a book about Muggles out on the grounds. The weather had been so lovely that even the indoorsy Anastasia couldn't stay inside. Muggles rather fascinated her, but she had never actually spoken to one. She'd read plenty of wizarding books on the subject, but she rather wondered exactly how accurate those might be. In one, she had read that Muggles had quill-like things called "pens" and "pencils" that didn't need to be dipped in ink or anything. That sounded utterly silly to her. After all, given what magic could do, wizardkind would have figured out some kind of infinite inked quill long before muggles thought it up.
Another thing that made absolutely no sense to the young Prefect was the idea of a "rubber duck". What on earth would one use a duck made out of rubber? She sighed and closed What Muggle Life is Like. She bit her lip and looked around. There had to be someone around Hogwarts who knew something about Muggles. After all, there were plenty of Muggleborns and Halfbloods running around. She didn't actually know any of them though. That presented an issue since she could hardly walk up to someone and demand they explained Muggles and their culture to her.

Dan was happily walking across the grounds, shoes in hand, enjoying the weather. This time however, he would not be climbing trees. He would not be doing that again until he learned a spell to get himself down. This however, did not mean that he couldn't enjoy a barefoot walk through the grounds during nice weather. One didn't get nice days like this very often back in Ireland. And certainly not in a port town like Dingle.
Not that that stopped Dan and his mates from playing. If it was raining, they didn't give a damn. Shoes went flying off, and shirts were thrown aside, and playing resumed. Though, they did get back inside before it got too cold, and they wound up catching something. They'd all learned better than that after the first time. Their mothers were NOT happy.
As Dan was reminiscing, he noticed a Gryffindor girl was reading. She could hardly be blamed; the weather was lovely. But as he neared her, he noticed what it was she was reading: What Muggle Life is Like. Dan doubted very much that this book would adequately explain much. Most of the other books on Muggles that he'd read were riddled with nonsense and falsehoods. No, Thomas Edison was NOT a wizard, they just called him the Wizard of Menlo Park for some reason.
Dan decided to go and talk to her. Partially because he was curious to see what she thought of muggles in general, but mostly because he had very little shame when he was in a good mood.
He turned around and walked back up to her and asked, without bothering to try to hide his Irish accent, as usual, "Curious about muggles?"

She was interrupted from her ponderings about rubber ducks by a boy's voice. The first thing she noticed was the boy's Irish accent, which she noticed because of how much it differed from her own upper-class British accent. She looked up at the boy and quickly inspected him before formulating a reply. He had messy brown hair and appeared to not believe in wearing shoes. That combined with the fact that he had approached her when she appeared to be busy showed that he definitely wasn't from a family with a background like hers - pureblooded, wealthy, overall seriously snotty.
She met the boy's eyes as she placed a leather bookmark between her pages and closed the book. "In fact, I am," she said, an eyebrow arched amusedly. "Why did you want to know? Do you happen to be an expert on the subject?"
The Gryffindor's tone was crisp and proper, but not necessarily cold or rude. If the boy did, in fact, know something about Muggles from his own experience, then she was certainly interested in what he had to say about it. She suspected he did have some first-hand experience since he had approached her in the first place, but she would just have to wait and see.

Dan had a smirk.
"Yep. I was raised in the Muggle world. I only found out I was a pureblood when I got my letter. Didn't even know a magic world existed. They said it was cuz they wanted me to experience a Muggle life before I got to magic, probly so I could appreciate it more."
Having said that, he realized what his parents had done to themselves for him to better enjoy his life. Living in a world without magic, and if they ever used it, he never noticed. This was something he was going to write to them about later.
Anyway, Dan smiled, determined to save that rumination for later, when he ISN'T meeting a potential new friend.
"If ya wanna know about Muggles, I can tell you a grand deal more than a book can. Whaddaya curious about?"
Dan sat his shoes down and sat down in front of the girl. He wasn't positive, but he was pretty sure that his excitement was showing. And he was just fine with that. He finally has the opportunity to make the world that HE knows of relevant in some way, and he was not shy about showing his excitement for it.

"High Pitched Squeals"
Anastasia's normal control over her expressive face faltered for a moment and her eyebrows shot up so far she half expected them to fly off her face. What kind of parents wouldn't tell their child about magic on purpose? Furthermore, who would choose to cut themselves off from the entire magical world? Sure, it had its issues, but she couldn't imagine forsaking it altogether. She shook those thoughts off and felt the excitement building. She actually met someone who was willing to tell her all about the muggle world. Whatever the reasoning, she wasn't about to look a gift horse in the mouth.
"I'm curious about everything!" she exclaimed, her normal composure and prim demeanor falling away for a moment. She didn't even know where to start. She felt like a mermaid who was suddenly given an actual way to find out anything she wanted to about the land. It wasn't that she thought the Muggle world was better or worse, (alright, she did think it was likely somewhat inferior), but she knew it was certainly far different than anything she had ever experienced. "First off, how do muggles even function? I've grown up in the magical world and everything runs based on magic.

Dan was excited now. He got to talk to someone who grew up in the magic world. If he could play it right, he could learn more about it while teaching her about the muggles.
Dan's smile grew. This was gonna be a good day.
"Well, the Muggle world runs on science instead of magic. Electricity, mainly. Using essentially lightning to power everything. Well, a more controlled version of lightning, like this kind of stuff is a lot less likely to kill you. Unless you do it wrong, or touch a power line. I mean SOME people use gas, but that can explode or catch on fire or suffocate you if it's done wrong. They use electricity to power their heaters, air conditioners, ovens, TVs, gaming systems, everything basically. Electricity rules and runs everything in the Muggle World. And they're REALLY good at finding new ways to make it. Coal, dams, solar panels, nuclear power plants, All kinds of things.
As far as function as people, from what I understand, people go to work and fantasize about not being at work all day, and look forward enormously to when they can leave, go home, and watch TV. Or go to a bar in some.... several.... okay like 60% of them on a VERY good day. Normally I'd say about 89%. Men mostly, but-"
Dan realized he got off track.
"Uh right I got a little sidetracked there, Did I do a good job explaining at least, or..."
Dan hoped he did well. He didn't want to seem like a babbling loon.
She.... really didn't know how-"I'm curious about everything! First off, how do muggles even function? I've grown up in the magical world and everything runs based on magic."
