2023/24 Stage 2 Ravenclaw vs Gryffindor: Match 5

This round was another great example of the Ravenclaw's skills. Even though Eun-ji did get hit by Kim's spell and the cloud was pushed back, their spells still succeded. Cassius and Eun-ji both used the cracker jinx on Kim and Estelle. Samantha's ventus hit Nicky, who was covered in fog just like her. The fourth year noticed that the cloud had returned to their side of the stage and hoped it would leave again soon.

This round was brutal to say the least. So far, there was a lot of strategy from her team to hinder the Gryffindors as much as possible but this time, they went raw power and it paid off. Some would probably say it may have been a bit of an overkill however in duelling, nothing was certain. One could never count on all their spells hitting their intended target. Not to mention sometimes it was not just a miss but a backfire. This has been especially true for this particular match. As such, all duellists liked to make extra sure the damage was done and the Ravenclaws were not any different.

Duelling could be harsh borderline cruel at times, but all who had joined the sport knew as much. It didn’t bring Eun-ji any joy to hurt her fellow students, especially if they were her friends, but it was literally impossible not to do that if they wanted to win and truthfully, she really did want to win. After not doing anything last match, she was relieved to be able to help. Even now as she was blinded by Kim's bright spell, she still intended to do her best.

"Nec Crepitus Divinos!"

After a largely strategic round, it was now time for some more direct action. For that, Cassius went to one of his favorite spells, the cracker jinx specifically. It was not an easy spell to cast, especially as he attempted to split the spell into two, targeting two opponents at once. It was a risky gamble but one that paid off as it has in the past. Along with some creative casting by his teammates, the round was a resounding success with one Gryffindor knocked unconscious and the other two not appearing much better off.

Though victory seemed within grasp, Cassius knew that hubris brought down people much more powerful than himself. Thus, he did not rest on his laurels. The war was not yet won and they would need to see this through to the end.

It was over. Or as good as at the very least. Surely every last of the spectators could tell by now where this game was going, right? Kim and Elsa kept fighting and not bad- for a moment Opeila thought Elsa would land a hit, only for her to miss the Eun-ji by an inch. Kim's spell also flew away into the distance.

The Ravenclaws didn't do any mistakes anymore. The stormcloud moved back to the Gryffindor side again- an incredibly merciful cloud that was, not hitting a single one of the duellists with a lightning.
But the worst were the two spells hitting Elsa. First Cassius's Flipendo that almost knocked her out already, followed by a powerful Confringo from Sam that made Opeila duck once again to evade any flying shrapnels.

It was no surprise for her to see Elsa on the floor now, not moving anymore. "Stop!" This time Opeila didn't forget her job, calling for a pause until her classmate was carried off stage. It almost pained her when she signaled for the remaining four to continue. Just surrender, Kim...

Much to Samanatha's happiness, another Gryffindor duellist was knocked out. It meant that they were getting closer to her goal of winning. Both Cassius and Eun-ji managed to dodge the spells aimed at them. Nobody was targeting her, so the brunette could focus on casting another spell at Elsa. With a satisfied feeling, she watched the damage of her and Cassius' spell knock out Elsa. "Good job, guys! Let's keep up the good work," she yelled at her team mates as Elsa was carried off the stage.

As Eun-ji blinked to get rid of the Verdimillious after effects, she quickly decided not to waste her efforts on trying to hit her opponents. It would be difficult to do so and besides, it was most likely not necessary. Instead, Eun-ji once again focused on the cloud. That one was thankfully hard to miss.

Just as her vision started clearing up, the raven-haired witch heard a familiar thud as a yet another body hit the hard floor of the piste. This time, it was Elsa. Of course, Eun-ji was glad for the sure victory but to be perfectly honest, she never really liked this part. Growing up, watching her parents cure other people and try to save lives every day made it hard to watch others getting hurt. No matter how long it has been since she joined dueling, it barely got any easier. Well…at least it’s pretty much over. She thought with a wince.

“Kim…just let it go…You did well.” Eun-ji eventually addressed her friend. He looked terrible and was clearly in no state to continue. She really didn’t want him to get hurt anymore…there was no point in continuing. He was barely standing. Unfortunately, there was little she could do. It was Kim’s call, if the little lion didn’t want to give in, she had to finish the match too. Those were the rules and she would abide by them for the sake of her own team.

"Flipendo!"

Sometimes a rudimentary knockback jinx learned way back in his early years at Hogwarts was the most prudent course of action. As close to brute force as a spell could get, Cassius wielded this particular magical cudgel with some degree of malice as the jet of color leapt forth from the tip of his wand. He wanted to win and he had early on identified Elsa as one of the most dangerous of their opponents. He had moderated a prior match of hers and knew her longevity could be a problem. Best deal with that problem now rather than later, especially having set up the best circumstances they could for doing so.

Like everything Ravenclaw, careful planning and calculation rather than impulsive actions would more often than not in the day. They had not won yet but Cassius could begin to smell victory in the air.

As the duel progressed, Opeila's eyes wandered to the clock more and more often, it couldn't be long now. Maybe just enough for Kim to remain standing until the end.

It didn't look like the third year had any intention of surrendering, although there was no chance that he'd win this in the last... half a minute they had left. How very Gryffindor of him.
And to Opeila's surprise, he did actually land a spell this time, Cassius was hit by a well aimed incendio. Not that this would change the outcome, but surely that would be a moment of pride for the younger child.

Maybe it was that incendio that distracted Cassius so much that his confringo did not work.
Sam and Eun-ji however had a good few last moments of the duel. Sam's confringo did not hit Kim as strong as it could have, but it clearly affected the Gryffindor and Eun-ji successfully cast Reparifors at her younger housemate.

And that was it. "Alright, stop!", Opeila announced the moment the time ran out, "Congratulations to Ravenclaw!"
