Gathering of the clouds PV Aedion Sorrengail

The sun went down behind the mountains far, far away. Lithaen Galathynius was staring at the magical sight. She still couldn’t believe she was here. Here at Hogwarts, where she could make all her dreams come true. One of this dreams was have a sleepover at the Astronomytower. She still wasn’t sure if she was bold enough to pull this off, but she was going to make a great effort. Together with Aedion Sorrengail, her new friend, she would try.

In a few minutes she’d meet him at the front of the stairs that would bring them to the most beautiful tower of the entire castle. She collected loads of food and, according to the plan, he’d do the same. In view of the fact that a sleepover just wouldn’t be complete without food. And she loved food. She adored food. If it was up to her, she could eat all day! Though she had classes to attend in which she wasn’t allowed to eat or drink.

After she grabbed her bag, she ran down the corridors. She was a bit too late. She always was a bit too late, because she was always distracted by every single thing. Before she could even see if her friend had already arrived, she started to talk.
“I am so sorry!” she said. “I might be a bit late, but I do have loads of food. So much we’re going to puke! My brothers even bought me some candy! AND!” Now she started to scream. “CAULDRON CAKES! And I brought pillows and blankets and my pyjamas. Wanna go?” She pointed her finger to the long stairs.

The food at Hogwarts was amazing! Each morning Aedion woke up with a rumbling stomach and he started to think about all the food he was going to eat at breakfast. Usually it would be something like eggs, bacon and toast with some syrup on top. And some fruit, because he loved the sweetness some of the fruits had. His favourites were mango and strawberries. Not only breakfast was great, however. Lunch and dinner was great too. Never in his wildest dreams did he expect he would be able to eat French fries every day, along with chicken and vegetables. Even the veggies tasted great at Hogwarts!

He just finished his dinner and went back to the Slytherin commonroom to get his stuff. Tonight he was going camping in the Astronomy tower with Lithaen. She was a Gryffindor girl in his year that he met out in the courtyard only a few days ago. He was studying and she... Well, she was doing all sorts of things. Gazing at the clouds to see what animals they formed, babble about her adventures and her lack of doing homework and, most importantly, sharing her cauldron cakes with him. Tonight she was going to take him on an adventure and he had helped her with her homework a few times before.

In his opinion they were a great combination. The boy was now standing next to his four poster and had emptied his schoolback which he filled with some other stuff. He had asked his parents to send him some parcels with all sorts of candy they could enjoy tonight. Luckily they did and now Aedion put it all in his bag.
He swung his bag over his shoulder and hurried up the steps towards the corridors where they had decided to meet. Panting and tired he finally got up and he heard Lithaens voice already.
"Who are you speaking to, little lion?" he asked as he cocked his head around the corner. "I heard something about cauldron cakes?" He held up his schoolbag. "My parents sent me some candy this morning and we can eat it all tonight! Ready for the climb upwards?"

After Lithaen met Aedion, she wrote a letter to her parents. She always did when she learned something new or when she met someone new. She felt close to them this way. Moving out at this age had been very hard to her. She was only eleven years old, so of course she missed her parents! Luckily she had her brothers, though she figured they weren’t always willing to hang out with her. She didn’t understand why!

Now that she met Aedion things finally started to get better. He reminded her of her diseased brother. Not in a negative or creepy way, but he could help her focus, just like Chaol did. He kept her at ease and she really needed someone to do that. Therefore - and of course for the fun they had - they made a great team. And although her mother was really happy she met someone like him, she asked her daughter some really weird questions too! She couldn’t wait to share these with Aedion.

Apparently she wasn’t talking to Aedion at all. She startled when he came around the corner. She screamed a little and then frowned. “Hey! You scared me! I thought you were already here, though I can clearly see your not. I wasn’t really paying attention, I guess.” She chuckled.
“So as an answer to your question: I was talking to you! And YES! Cauldron cakes!” She smiled brightly. “What kind of candy? I’m still hungry! I even stole some chicken wings at diner.”
After nodding, she started to climb the stairs. “My mother is losing it,” she then told him. “She’s completely out of her mind. She asked me -“ she paused when she realised she’d completely forgotten to breathe “-‘is he cute?’” She shook her head. “I don’t even know what that means. Animals are cute! How can people be cute?” It was just too much for her eleven-year-old-brain. “I did brought The Tales of Beedle the Bard, though!” she continued without a pause.

Before leaving for Hogwarts, his parents had asked him to send as many owls as he could. So, naturally, he forgot about it half the time. Luckily his parents didn't forget about it and reminded him regularly with letters full of questions on his time at Hogwarts. He told them about all the classes he was taking, the people he had met so far and of course the things he didn't like as much. His parents would then write him back about how proud they were and how good he was behaving. Which was all true, because if there was one thing Aedion didn't want to do, it was breaking rules.

Perhaps this made tonight a special night. He had read the rules as often as he could and he hadn't found anywhere that they couldn't be at the Astronomy tower. However, staying outside of the common room at a late hour wasn't accepted. Right now it was still early, still after dinner, but of course it would be later in a few hours and they were expected to be safely in their own dormitories. The plan was to sleep over at the Astronomy tower, but Aedion had to admit he was quite nervous about it all.

He swung his bag back over his shoulder en grinnid broadly at Lithaen, who seemed to be startled by his appearance. He couldn't help but chuckle.
"I'm sorry!" he said and meant it, although he always thought it was funny when other people were scared. "Nope, I was still grabbing my stuff in the Slytherin common room," was his explanation. "So we were both kind of late, right?"
He had to think for a minute before he told her all the stuff he got. "I got some cauldron cakes, too and some other stuff I'll show you when we're there."
As they went up, up, up the many stairs, he listened to what she was saying. "Really? I have no idea!" he exclaimed with big eyes. "Animals are cute, but I've never heard anyone call a person cute. I guess that could be possible, though." He frowned, lost in thought. "Oh, cool! I've read that a hundred times, if not more. It's one of my favourites. I brought a telescope I borrowed so maybe we can do some stargazing when it gets dark."

Her brothers always told her she was very childish, though Lithaen didn’t really care. She was eleven years old, so why should she behave like a grown up? She didn’t even want to grow up yet. She wanted to enjoy her childhood some more. This meant she wanted to go on many adventures in and outside the castle. With her ‘old’ Gryffindor friends, but also with her brand-new Slytherin friend. At least, she thought they’d be friends. She didn’t know his opinion on this matter, so she wrote him a small note to ask his opinion.

Her parents, however, wanted her to stay their baby forever. For now she was happy to be their little girl and she loyally answered to all their worried letters. She did understand where they came from though, they had all expected her to join Hogwarts with her twin brother Chaol. He had always been the smart one. When she wanted to do something stupid, he always tried to prevent it. A bit like Aedion did!

Lithaen started to laugh too. “It’s okay. It’s my own fault, I didn’t pay any attention.” She shrugged, as this wasn’t the first time she startled because she was distracted. “Did you bring anything interesting? Besides the candy, of course.” To her eating candy would be the most interesting thing they’d do tonight. She still wasn’t used to the fact that she could eat everything she wanted, without being interrupted by her mom.
“I can’t wait!” she said, smiling. She paused for a moment to think and then she nodded. “Oh, yes. I think I understand what you mean. What she meant. People can be cute when their wearing a cute costume! But you’re not wearing a cute costume?” She frowned once again and then shrugged.
“Mine too!” She got all excited for their plans. “A telescope? Do you know anything about stars? I don’t! Maybe you can teach me?”
They finally arrived in the tower and Lithaen took a little note out of her pocket. “This is for you. You can answer it with my quill if you wish?”

Growing up, Aedion was rather isolated from society. He never thought anything of it, since he usually really enjoyed himself in his house, surrounded by nature. There were hardly any people close to him. No Muggles and a few wizard-families, but luckily those weren't too close to him either. It was great! The downside about it all was that Aedion had always been pretty lonely. There were no children of his age to play with and his parents weren't always the best people to be around. Why? Because they didn't play with him like other children would.

The first few weeks at Hogwarts it took him a lot of time to adjust to the busy and noisy life here. It wasn't just him and his parents anymore. It was him and hundreds of other people that could be overwhelming at times. At this point he still didn't have any too close friends. He had some friends, yes, but it all felt pretty casually. Perhaps Lithaen, the bubbly Gryffindor, could change things for him. She could make him more social, surely, and help him a little to get more comfortable at school.

Tonight would, hopefully, be a great step towards friendship. "You seemed to be lost in your head," he observed with a smile. "I brought a book from the library about astronomy," he said. "And I got a couple of games we could play. If we really are bored after a while, which I doubt. We probably have loads to talk about and lots of things to see." His eyes were sparkling enthusiastically as he was walking up the stairs. His legs were burning and he seemed to be out of breath by the time they climbed a few floors.
"No, I'm not wearing a cute costume," he said, frowning. He had no clue what her mother would mean, but he thought that was just because she was a grownup. Grownups were often confusing to the eleven-year-old boy. "Eh, I don't know much about them yet, but the book I carry has some interesting facts so I hope we can see some of that tonight."
After what felt an hour they were finally in the tower and he leaned on his knees with his hands, panting and catching his breath. "For me?" He unfolded the note and felt his cheeks turn red. "Coolio!" he exclaimed. "Do you have your quill with you?" Of course he already knew the answer, he could instantly answer her note, as he had been thinking about it himself, too.

Lithaen felt like she really needed a best friend. She’d always had her twin brother. He was her best friend ever and she didn’t need anything more, so she too had never really learned how to make friends. She’d told Chaol everything and he told her everything. Besides that, they just liked to hang out, make some fun and eat a lot. It was very basic, but they didn’t need much to have fun. They had each other and that was enough.

She hoped she’d find someone to fill the blank spot Chaol had left behind. Preferably a boy, because she just felt more at ease with boys. Not that she couldn’t be around girls, but it was just different to her. Growing up with three brothers made her some kind of tomboy. She started to like dresses and other ‘girly’ stuff, but she still preferred to hang out with boys!

Lithaen started to laugh. “I am always lost in my head,” she admitted. “What games? Probably not! There’s so much I want to share with you. So many stories to share.”
She was a bit out of breath, but didn’t think much about it. She was already distracted, like she always was.
“No, you’re not.” She sighed. “Adults are so very weird. What are your parents like?”
She sat down on her blanked and looked at Aedion. “Yes, I’m curious to learn about the universe!”
She stared nervously at him, while he unfolded the note. “Coolio!” she repeated, still staring at him. “EH! Yes!” She handed him her quill and bit on her nail. “I’m waiting,” she then said. A few seconds later she said: “Still waiting, still here!” She looked at him with big, nervous eyes.

His heart was pounding in his ears from walking all these steps. Before he was attending Hogwarts, he had never thought about this in the slightest. He only thought about how cool it would be to live in a castle. Aedion had seen himself here, but he forgot that having to walk all these flights of stairs was killing for his legs! Luckily it was all for a good cause and he couldn't wait to spend the night here at the astronomy tower. Although... He must admit that it was also quite scary in a way. Seeing how excited Lithaen was, he didn't want to show that to her.

Their communication came rather naturally to Aedion, which he was happy about. He wasn't used to having lots of social interaction with people his age, but he didn't struggle one bit when it came to talking to Lithaen. His parents had, prior to him going to Hogwarts, explained something about the different houses and what those people were like. He immediately knew that Gryffindors were probably more suitable to him to get him out of his shyness.

A crooked grin sparked on his face as he looked at her. "I got some Wizards chess, gobstones and Exploding Snap! Some of my favourites. And I also got some Muggle books that I love. I don't know much about Muggles, to be honest, but there are a few things I do know about them that intrigue me. Some of their books and their music, ah, yes, the music is fantastic!" His eyes were sparkling with enjoyment when talking about his beloved books and music.
"My parents are amazing. I don't have any brothers or sisters," he admitted, "but my parents are great. My father is a Slytherin and my mom is a Ravenclaw! My dad knows everything about the wizarding world and my mom knows everything about... everything! But especially nature. Maybe one day you can see them. Perhaps if we meet up in Diagon Alley during one of the holidays?" He grinned broadly at her and took her quill, looking back at the note she gave him.
"Coolio indeed!" he giggled and crossed off the 'yes' box and handed the note back to her, very seriously. "I answered, you know!" His cheeks were bright red and he had to look away because of it. Did he just make a best friend!?

To Lithaen writing a note to ask Aedion to be her best friend, sounded like the best idea ever. She was very social and had no difficulty talking to people, but this was a big deal! Asking someone to be your best friend was a big deal. She’d never done something like that before. She was friends with her twin brother, of course, but that was different. He had always been around and she had just met Aedion for the first time a few days ago. She didn’t know much about him and he didn’t know much about her. She hadn’t even told him about Chaol yet!

Maybe she would tonight. They had all night to talk! She wouldn’t admit it, especially not to her new best friend, but she was a bit nervous about the whole situation. Staying in the Astronomy tower was quite something, even for a bold Gryffindor like her. She was scared someone would find out what they were planning to do. Would they be punished? She would think about it later, however, as it was still very early in the evening.

After hearing about the games he brought, Lithaen jumped up and down. “Yes! I’m so excited!” she told him, though her excitement was quite clear. “Muggles do have amazing books! I like their fairytales and their music! What kind of music do you like? You do look like a Metallica fan, just like my dad.” She grinned.
“That sounds great, Aeddy. And a bit lonely, growing up alone?” It was more of a statement than a question. “Did you live close to nature? I’d love to meet your parents, they sound like great people,” she finally admitted. “Do you write them often?” She smiled. “I had a twin brother,” she then said softly. “He died last year. You remind me of him, which is.. a good thing. Take it as a compliment.”
She sat down and nervously took the note back. When she saw the answer he wrote down, her eyes got big. She looked a bit like a crazy house elf. “REALLY!? WE’RE BESTIES? Forever, okay? Pinkie promise?”

The house where he had grown up was perfect. It was a rather small cabin in the woods, but it had everything anyone would need. Especially the large garden they had was great. His parents held all sorts of beasts there, mostly magical beasts as that had always been his mothers thing. She spent most of her days taking care of the creatures and taking her son along with her whenever she could. During his year prior to Hogwarts, she was responsible for teaching him a lot of important things about the magical world. His parents, though they didn't hate Muggles, didn't want him to go to a Muggle school.

A best friend was something Aedion had never really had. Before going to Hogwarts, he had mostly been on his own. Which he didn't hate, but now he noticed how much he missed during his earlier years in life. Would he be able to catch up on the things he missed with these upcoming years at Hogwarts? Probably so, he was certain of it! Most of the kids in his year were quite welcoming. Obviously not all of them, but most of them for sure. This gave him a good feeling about the future.

It seemed Lithaen and Aedion had more in common than they probably both expected. This made it even easier to talk with her. "You're right! I do love that kind of music. It can't possibly be loud enough for me." A chuckle left his mouth. "And what kind of music do you like then?" he wondered.
"It was a bit lonely, yes, but I never felt that way. Only recently I noticed how lonely it must have been." A sad smile came upon his face. "By that I mean that I haven't experienced everything my childhood had to offer, since I just didn't have it around me." As she talked about her twin brother, his eyes grew wide and for a second he had no idea what to tell her. "Wow," was all he said. "I am so sorry, that must be horrible... But I take it as a compliment that I remind you of him."
Luckily she quickly turned more bubbly again! "Yes! Bestest bestiest." He held up his pinkie and took hers. "Pinkie promise!"
