Holy cricket... This place is huge!
That's all Emily could think as she sped around the library, taking in every little book that caught her eye. She always had a feeling the library would be her favourite part of the school aside from the study rooms, but this... this was far beyond anything she could imagine and she loved it...!

The shelves extended to all sides of the library she at first thought it was the wallpaper, but no. The entire room was filled with an entire trove of books that were tightly packed on the shelves, all snuggly lined up as the light from the windows bounced off their leather backs.

Emily knew she was making a somewhat undignified expression with her mouth hanging open in awe at the collection before her, but she couldn't contain her excitement. She was ready - no, determined - to devour every book she could find in this place. However, she thought it best to start small. She was still new to magic and everything surrounding it, so she new what she had to do first; find some books and get revising.

She went round each shelf to look for books that look like they could be for "beginner" level. In the end, she picked out 5 books for her different classes. She found a small table at one end of the room and without further delay, her nose was straight in to the first book of the pile.

Lily went into the library to find a new book to read. She had exhausted her pile of books and needed some new ones. She returned the previous pile of books and allowed herself to go to the muggle section of the library. She ran a finger down the line of books and picked out six classics that she thought she might like. Gone With The Wind by Margaret Mitchell, Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, Oliver Twist by Charles Dickenson, and Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. They were thick books so Lily knew they would take her a while to read. Reading was her passion. If she wasn't teasing her siblings, or off with her boyfriend she was either in her dormitory, common room, or in the library with her nose buried in a book. She had always loved reading since a little girl and the books were her escape from every bad thing happening in her life. The books were very heavy also but nonetheless, she carried them over to a table where a girl was already reading. Lily sat them down before her arms fell off and cleared her throat quietly. "May I sit down?" She asked politely and quietly.

Emily eagerly welcomed her surprise guest. "Please...!" she greeted kindly.
She could see the girl's own collection that she'd carried over. The books were big which was almost tempting her, but what surprised her was that she recognised a few of them. She'd been so focused on trying to improve her own wizard knowledge she'd clean forgot there was muggle literature in the library as well. She'll take out something for some light reading afterwards, she thought.

She and the girl sat in silence for a bit, but Emily was shifting a little in her seat with the knowledge she was accruing from the books she picked out earlier, as well as the fact that the girl sitting next to her was seeming to read a few of her favourites.

After a while she silently whispered, "You'll like those ones. Jane Eyre is my favourite one..."
She piped down as to not disturb her and to stop herself from rambling. Her eyes shifted back to the three open textbooks in front of her, scribbling enthusiastically in a roll of parchment as she absorbed all the information across the pages. Not only was it helping her understand her classes better, but she was actually finding it all interesting, as strange as it would probably sound to someone else.

It was a pleasant moment, though she found herself glancing towards the girl's book collection every now and then. It was then that Emily realised she was getting nostalgia from back home, when "Auntie" would surprise her with new books from time to time, from timely classics to the contemporary period. She hoped the girl wasn't put off, but she couldn't stop smiling all the same.

Lily smiled at the girl and sat down in her seat reaching for the Wuthering Heights one first. She read at least one chapter before the said Lily would really like the books especially the Jane Eyre book. Lily looked up and grinned. "I love reading and being a muggleborn myself I can relate to a lot of these books. I recently read the Great Gatsby. It was very good." She said before glancing back down at her book. Lily lived the old classics. Her favorite so far had to be Black Beauty. The one about the hirse was heartbreaking , but happy at the same time. She remembered her mother used to read the little summaries to her when she was a little girl. Just thinking about her mother brought tears to her eyes and she blinked them away quickly. She turned to the girl next to her amd held her hand out to shake. "My name is Lily. Lily Brown-McCoire. You are?" She said with a small smile. She had to start introducimg herself as Brown-McCoire. When her parents had died she had just said McCoire but as she thought about it made her think that she didn't want to be tied to her father but it was the complete opposite. She loved her dad and missed him terribly. Him and her mom. And it haunted her that her last words were completely stupid.

Now Emily really couldn't contain her excitement at that point. Not only had she met an avid reader but she met a fellow Muggle-born like herself. All of a sudden, Hogwarts felt a little less intimidating for her. She beamed at Lily.

"I'm Emily. Emily Shephard." she whispered back nicely. She took her hand politely and shook it kindly, though she was sure Lily could feel her uncontrollable excitement through the connection of their palms. She had a good feeling about this.

She rehearsed Lily's name in her head... Brown-McCoire, Hm... Had a very nice ring to it. Her ginger hair sat nicely down her shoulders too. Jealousy was definitely not the word that Emily would use, but she sensed a form of pride and self-appreciation emanating from Lily that she couldn't help but admire. On the other hand, that could be because that she was a year older than her and was dying for some kind of wisdom. If Emily was going to manage Hogwarts at all, it seemed Lily was the window of opportunity to learn.

But for now, she was more than content to build on what was slowly seeming to become a nice little friendship between the two of them.

Lily smiled at Emily. She always adored that name. "Emily. What a beautiful name. Just like Emily Brontë." Lily said mentioning the author of Wuthering Heights. She was a pretty girl and Lily admired her hair. Lily's auburn red hair was straight but sometimes it would get these spells when it would decide to become curly.
Lily went back to reading her book though she wasn't concentrating that well anymore . She wondered what year Emily was in and also what house. She hadn't seen hsr around the Gryffindor common room but then again that didn't exactly mean anything. A lot of Gryffindors didn't spend a lot of time in the common room. Lily was the same way. She spent more time by the lake then she did in the common room. Though to be honest the common room was too busy for her most nights so she spent time in the dormitory as much as possible at night. It worked to get her homework if it got to dark to see outside especially before daylight savings time. But Lily enjoyed her time outside.
"What year are you? And what is you're house? I'm a Gryffindor myself." Lily said with a smile.

Emily couldn't contain the giddy laugh from her mouth when she mentioned Emily Bronte. She knew "Auntie" would really appreciate the reference, as she was the biggest Emily Bronte fan she ever knew.

Emily took small blinking glances between her books and Lily. She just seemed... so cool. Was she one of those cool kids that every school had? She had a somewhat air of finesse in her posture and her movements, especially when she would turn the pages of her novel. She couldn't help admiring how the sunshine bounced off her hair gently either.

They continued to read in silence though every now and then they would smile when they would lock eyes with each other briefly. When Lily mentioned she was in Gryffindor, Emily thought that it all made sense why she seemed so cool. Then again, it wasn't fair to assume something like that. Emmanuel is a Ravenclaw and he's cool, she thought. Perhaps it all boiled down to the fact that Emily didn't have as much self-confidence as she thought she did.

"I'm a First Year, Hufflepuff actually," she responded kindly, returning Lily's smile in the same manner. She was really starting to warm up to Lily already and she thought she maybe felt the same, assuming Lily didn't think Emily was weird for constantly looking at her.
