The moon glistened, shining brightly in the sky. Its glow lit up everything on the campgrounds, whether there was a man-made ember or not. The sky was clear; there was not a cloud in the sky. Sometimes, when Mari was little, she wondered if there were beings looking at the glow of the Earth in a similar state of awe that she would have on those clear nights. The universe was wondrous, how it could bring peace simply by existing. This night was serene.
What wasn't serene? The scene that befell the two girls down below.
She kept talking, so she missed the statements that occurred previously, until finally, one voice broke through her frantic whispers: "Hey, I found them."
Mari was struck by the contrast between the voice's tone and her own feelings. It was as if her life was in danger, and the man realized that his victim was a girl who looked the age of nine and another who didn't look significantly older. Oh wait. That was exactly what happened. The second voice confirmed it, when he merely stated, "Pair of little kids."
The Hufflepuff whimpered. Remember when she shrieked previously? Yeah, she was regretting that right about now. At the same time, she couldn't help that her moans were escalating, because she knew it was too late to do much of anything, anyway. At least she wasn't screaming, given that one man was already hurting her with his firm grasp. She feared what he meant by "hurt" if a scream emitted from her mouth...Mari already winced in pain, although that may have just been nerves escalating the feeling.
Turning, she followed the second voice's owner as he clasped a similarly rough grip on Bezu's shoulder. The whimpers continued and it took Mari a moment to realize that she was actually sobbing. Although one would think that she would have realized this sooner in her twelve years of life, Mari realized she was really quite useless in a fight. Her strategy was just to succumb. She was a goner.
Bezu, on the other hand, pulled a risky move; Mari screamed yet again a moment after she watched the heel collide with foot. She's going to get herself killed! Her mind raced. Mari knew she wouldn't fight, but if Bezu was going to keep this up, she was going to be killed sooner than one could say 'fizzing whizbees.' Bezu had saved her - or at least, tried to save her - twice before (jury's out if a saving from detention is comparable to potential death, but in Mari's mind, it was); a protective loyalty to the girl who had just previously called her "like a sister" lit inside of Mari in a way she didn't expect. She needed to protect Bezu in repayment for the protection Bezu had offered Mari previously.
Not knowing if it was the weird truthfulness speaking or some courage Mari had never known she possessed, to her great shock, the whimpers stopped and Mari said, quite quickly, "Just take me. I won't fight, I'll go with you. You don't need two of us, do you? One of us will send the message to Lear or whomever you're trying to punish...I promise I'll do whatever you need, just leave her alone."
The tears still flowed, but Mari forced herself to stop the whimpering so as to prove a point. Then, another test: from not too far away, she heard, "Anyone there?! I'm here to help! Talk if you can hear me!" As much as she wanted to respond, Mari didn't speak. Instead, she looked pointedly at Bezu, hoping she could get the message through her stare: Yell. Get her to save you. Get out of here!
There was complete certainty that her fate was not going to be a good one, but Mari was not going to leave a debt unpaid. She would do anything within her power to protect Bezu. It was just up to left to be seen if the men would take Mari's bait...or if Bezu would listen.

Interacting with Anatole Evans and Elena Jangleton
"Shoes?" Elena frowned and dug in her bag, "I've got a pair of backup dancing heels, what size are you."
"Oh holy! That's a scream and a half." Elena took her wand out of her cloak, and looked around, "Yeah, I'll protect you... what's your name? I forgot to ask."
Something was clearly off, there were voices, and canned food, and then scream. Which meant there was someone out here who didn't belong, Elena may not know anything other than Periculum and Vermidillious from Defence classes but she did know Incendio, and when in doubt set it on fire wasn't the worst idea in the world.
"Well, stay behind me then, I suppose. Don't ditch us." Elena stated, then followed Jangleton out of the cabin, ready to go, "So, we should stick together, if we can. If someone ambushes you or attacks, go for maximum effectiveness, nobody cares about lethality when you're eleven."
Street kid magic, the ability to somehow pull a vague sense of leadership out of your ass. Some kind of epic music started to play through her head. The girl had been on edge since Kaegen tried to explode a bunch of people so she pulled out her spare knife and held it out hilt first to Anatole, "Take this."
I'm weak my love.

Anatole Evans would arrive on the scene, blanket over his head and wearing only one shoe. Little did he know, Erin was going to keep his other, forsaken and neglected piece of footwear. Perhaps it would be placed in her Anatole shrine that she kept in the back of her closet. Perhaps she was going to snuggle it when she fell asleep at night. Or perhaps maybe she now had a piece of his personal property and she hoped to glean something about him through magic.
Anatole would be the princess in need of saving in this scenario. One shoe, wandless and not particularly powerful in terms of fighting considering the fact that he fled from a girl at the dance. Well, Erin was no 'normal' girl and Anatole knew this but that was a story for another day.
When in doubt, set it on fire -- the Hogwarts secret, other mantra.
This was their call to adventure, a scream. It was shrill and it was terrified. It was not the sound that a girl makes when she is being chased by her friends in the woods. It is the sound of someone being taken. It was this cold, blood-chilling noise that people just recognized in their bones.
@Elena Jones would pass @Anatole Evans a knife. It was not as good as a wand and in Anatole's hands still quite dangerous. Mostly because it was hard to say which end Anatole would recover the blade with if trouble reared its ugly head. @Elena Jangleton had not watched enough horror movies, not only would she walk in the direction of the scream, in the dark but she would even alert the terrible things standing in the dark that she was there.
Meanwhile in a place not terribly far away, a pair of mooks had found two little girls hiding. It was providence. Fate. The glean in their eyes and the strange, cruel smile that eclipsed their face. They were going to snatch these kids from the places they stood. Was it out of fear for what they saw? What they knew? All they knew was that there were three strangers that may or may not have belonged here in this place they too did not belong in. "It is like Christmas," one of them let out a low, evil laugh.
Their hands were rough, their grip hard. "The ladies will love this," the other commented with a strange inflection on the term 'ladies.'
“Don’t touch her.”
@Aurelia Bezuidenhout demanded, they scoffed. The one that had grabbed hold of Aurelia's shoulder reached down and tried to grab the girl by the mid section and lift her off the ground. "No worries, I got you," as his left arm gripped her around the mid-section tight enough to make it hard to breathe Aurelia would stomp her heel down on the thug's foot.
He would bellow out in pain. His grip on her shoulder and gait would be relinquished, as he heel withdrew she would see a bit of blood on the tip had she the opportunity to look down. He was not defeated by that singular act, his had would raise up and he would attempt to backhand the young Gryffindor with the sum of his might.
"Fucking pussy," the man with an intact foot would comment. His victim was more complaint. His arm would hook the Hufflepuff and he would lift the sobbing child from the ground.
"Just take me. I won't fight, I'll go with you. You don't need two of us, do you? One of us will send the message to Lear or whomever you're trying to punish...I promise I'll do whatever you need, just leave her alone."
@Mari Haynes foolishly promised to be a willing victim in this ordeal. She had no idea what she had just promised or to who. She also thought she had a choice in the matter. She did not understand that the most unorganized time was the moment they snatched you. That was the time you had to fight the hardest. The time when you had to escape. As time goes on they get more organized. As time moves on, she would lose control over her own fate.
"Anyone there?! I'm here to help! Talk if you can hear me!"
@Elena Jones' voice was distant, but too close for comfort. "Shit, you hear that?"
"Dude, I am standing right next to you." Well, duh. "Just grab the brat," he sounded incredulous as he said this. As if he was the smart one or the leader between them. "Nobody is going to find them once we reach the wood," he reminded his partner.
"Darwin," a voice called out. not loud enough to carry like Mari's scream or Elena's call. It was the third member of their party, his voice was close and he was identifying where his partners had come upon intruders.
"Over here," the man with the injured foot grunted. "Found a couple of kids, one more incoming." @Elena Jangleton would probably overhear that part. He would attempt to grab Aurelia by the hair if she was knocked over by his previous strike.
"What about Trevor, Cassie and James at the dance?" The unseen or met stranger inquired as he would step into the moonlight. He was large, much like the other two men that had grabbed Aurelia and Mari. They were not giants or even half-giants, they were just older. A lot older. And stronger.
"No damn clue, no word yet."
Was this a kidnapping or a meeting? A bit of both really.

Mari had started sobbing, no doubt through the dark, tears were streaming down the poor girl’s face. Seeing the girl in such a state he made her heart clench. Aurelia had helped Mari in many ways yet was not able to protect the Hufflepuff in this situation. The man’s grip on her bandaged arm had hurt. It seems like he had purposefully chose to grip her injured arm rather than the perfectly good one just for his amusement. The girl lifted her lips in disgust when he had addressed her as babe. She was only twelve years old! Aurelia could let him get the satisfaction and so had not made a sound but the moment she felt the man’s hand snake around her waist she took a deep breath and screamed.
Her heel came down hard, colliding against the man’s foot causing the grip on her arm to loosen. Aurelia seized this moment to run or save Mari but before she could take a step, a hand struck her on the back of her head with a force that sent her stumbling forwards. The 5 inch heels were no help at all at retaining her balance and she fell onto the grass. The Gryffindor whimpered in pain, her hand instinctively moved to the back of her head, rubbing the part where it throbbed the most. The man had gotten what he deserved but the feeling of vulnerability was inevitable for the men were bigger and older. She and Mari, twelve year olds, stood no chance against them. Now Aurelia, a Gryffindor, has the sudden urge to break down sobbing like Mari. Perhaps if they cried enough, the men would simply lose their patience and let them go.
Before she could do anything else, her braided hair was yanked backwards, pulling her up to her feet. Then she felt herself being lifted up from the ground, her feet no longer on the grass. This time, she did not struggle and had let them. If she did, her efforts would be evidently futile and she would most likely get another bruise or two. Perhaps she could see what they were up to, it was definitely nothing good or subtle for why would they care about a few twelve year old kids eavesdropping on them in the first place? Maybe later on, when they’d put her down and got distracted, who knows where and when, she and Mari could run. Aurelia still had her wand under her dress in the tight sheath safely out of anyone’s view. Aurelia wondered wether Mari had brought her wand along. If Mari hadn’t a weapon, their chances of escaping with their lives would be much slimmer. Of course, she had two heels and could afford to give one to Mari. You’d never know when there might be a foot that needs stepping later on.
“Darwin,” said a deep voice from a short distance away. Great, another one of them.
"What about Trevor, Cassie and James at the dance?" all of a sudden, an idea popped into the Gryffindor’s head.
“Trevor? What about my Brother?” She asked her eyebrows raising in mock surprise. She never knew anyone by the name of Trevor but if it was the only way she could at least escape, she would take it.
“Hasn’t he told you about his little Sister? Bummer. I swear, if he knows you’ve taken me captive, he’d turn all of you three into pathetic moths. Put me down! ” she demanded, putting all her effort into the words.

Mari flinched as she watched the scene, tears still streaming. Bezu was fighting - she was a fighter - even if her methods seemed ineffective. Mari felt confident that no one would come, even at the cries. Except for that voice, who seemed just as young and doomed as they were.
Mari wondered what her family would think if she died as a result of this instance. Would they think she was an idiot for not fighting back like Bezu? Probably, but it just wasn't in her nature, she was just too much of an awkward, scared person to do much more. It had already been so unlike her to offer herself up as bait in exchange for Bezu's life. The only explanation for that was her loyalty, as every other part of it had been very uncharacteristically Mari. No, the real Mari was the one that presented herself in this moment: a silent, sobbing mess.
If they made it out alive, she would need Bezu to teach her how to think on her feet and fight back properly. Mari supposed now was not a great time to ask for lessons.
As she watched the aftereffects of Bezu's heel attack, Mari wondered why Bezu didn't just use her wand. Surely the men would overpower her, but at least it would be far more efficient than the physical antics that ensued instead of using magic. Mari thought back to her own wand, which she had thrown last-minute into a small purse that did not match the purple dress she wore. She had almost left it behind, but since she valued practicality above all else, she had decided against leaving it behind. She now wondered, though, if she should have put more thought into her outfit, making it suitable for battle. She had not worn any makeup, not looking for a romantic tryst. She had worn a boxy dress to help the last of her stab wound heal. (Though now, as her captor hooked her above the ground, she realized that a form fitting dress would have hurt less than the pressure from an arm that was now on her abdomen.) She had even worn flats instead of heels, not caring that heels would have maybe let the girl pass for ten instead of nine. Granted, Mari had been anticipating a quiet night, not this ordeal, but it seemed that if she were smarter, she would always prepare herself for battle. Maybe third time would be the charm.
Back to her wand, though. Mari was grateful she could continue to daydream even in times of great stress, even if it had gotten her far off her original thought about her wand. She had it, but even though she wondered why Bezu hadn't taken her own out, she knew she would not dare to get her own chestnut wood wand out. For one, there was no way she could reach into a bag inconspicuously while this man had his arms around her. For two, if Bezu was failing so miserably, Mari knew that her attempts would be even more pathetic than the older, more experienced girl's. She was not nearly as confident and felt like she did not know enough spells to have any lasting damage on her captors.
The reverie was broken when the men continued their conversation, as if Mari and Bezu weren't weeping and fighting, respectively. They must have thought that the girls were some sort of joke. The men didn't even have to concentrate fully on them, which one would think a real kidnapper would. No, instead they just muttered along about "another girl incoming" and some "Trevor, James, and Cassie" at the dance. Mari wanted to call out to that voice, clearly an innocent bystander, to run, but panic overtook any chance of her being more brave; she had already depleted most of her bravery when she offered herself up as a sole victim. She knew that the voice had been loud enough that maybe, just maybe, the girl had heard and gotten the message to run, herself. Mari focused her energies on sending positive thoughts the girl's way, instead.
Her whimpers were silenced momentarily when Bezu spoke again. Her brother? Mari wondered silently, thankful that whatever truth instinct her body had did not force her to speak. Didn't she say that her brother was dead? As she listened confusedly at Bezu's comment about her brother looking for her, Mari realized that her silence may be a giveaway and forced herself to resume the whimpering once more. Although it was uncertain if this was a lucky or unlucky fact, the whimpers resumed their natural course quite quickly.
She was shocked at her next action, thinking all of her bravery was depleted. With the last bit of courage she whispered, still moaning softly, "Would you mind telling us what you're going to do with us. Please?" She wasn't certain if anyone would hear her except for the man who gripped her far too tightly. It wasn't a fight; unfortunately, Bezu would be left alone in her battle for their safety. Mari knew, however, that maybe if they actually knew what was happening they could mentally prepare for what their fates would be. Bezu could then decide if she would want to keep fighting and Mari could...well, keep crying, but know if she should start mentally composing goodbye letters to her family.

Bezu could then decide if she would want to keep fighting and Mari could...well, keep crying, but know if she should start mentally composing goodbye letters to her family.

What was it about terrifying situations that sent Elena hurtling back through time to London? It wasn’t the sound, or the smell, certainly not the looks. No, it was the feeling of dread, her heart beating in her chest and the wand in her hands were the only thing that felt reliable, and real.
Then she heard the scream, a call above all others saying a word that made Elena almost break down in fear. The girl was starting to feel the effects of adrenaline, her mind became clearer as her skin became colder, and the dread felt louder somehow with every beat of her heart.
“They know we’re here.” Whispered Elena to her new compatriot, whose name she still hadn’t caught but names weren’t needed in a place like this, just knowledge and hope.
There are good things about being in a magic school, one of those good things is known as defence against the dark arts class. The first thing they teach you is how to signal danger, both immediate and impending, using two different spells. You can guess which one Elena was about to use.
The girl raised her wand in the air, and with all the ice and cold calculating chemically induced calm she could muster spoke the word, “Periculum.”
Jets of red sparks shot into the air, and Elena gestured for her new friend to follow her as she ran to hide nearby.
She hissed, “Jangles, new kid, come on!”
I'm weak my love.

Giving Anatole and Jangles another day to post.

Okay, this situation was getting more drastic by the moment. A set of barely audible voices could be heard as she scrambled after her Gryffindor counterpart and Elena Jones, wand in hand. She was positive that scream had come from this direction. The prefect frowned as the Slytherin shot up red sparks into the air indicating their positon and possibly alerting anyone nearby."Won't that just let the baddies know we're onto them?"She asked warily in a low voice as they trudged on forward before another shrill scream broke into the air as she winced at the sound. Some voices were clearly audible and from the sound of it.male..possibly?"We need to hurry."Her eyes darkening as the mention of kids reached her ears. Okay, these jokers were defnitely not up to any good.Come out, come out, wherever you are.
The Gryffindor barely noticed her wand hand shaking as they zoned in on the chatter of the voices taking steps ever so slowly."Maybe it will all turn out to be some stupid prank or something."The girl muttered not really directing the comment at anyone. That would be lovely. But, it turned out, a prank it would not be. She dared not take another step holding out a hand to halt the two other students as her pupils narrowed keying in on several figures in front. Two were clearly their age, students and as for the rest..well.. this was clearly an abduction if she ever saw one, either that or they were very good actors. "Uh, guys, we have a problem."Her eyes too intent on the situation unfolding failing to notice a fallen twig in front which her foot fell on snapping it in two, the snapping sound resounding through the area.Well, that's just great."Anyone got a plan of action because I think we just ruined our hopes of getting the jump on these clowns."Whatever the case, Elena was not planning on being on the receiving end of a spell today or in the same situation as the two students, that would very preferable.

Anatole bit his lip and struggled to comprehend his situation. Times like these were when he wished he was more mentally strong and could actually punch someone instead of run fast. As he stared at the black figures and screaming girls in the distance (neither of which he was particularly fond of), Anatole was unable to come up with a plan. The blue-haired girl next to him asked him if he was aware and the brown haired one asked if he had a plan. Anatole looked at the ground next to him and shook his head. "I know they're here. No wonder. On a plan...come back to me in two minutes...I just need to work out the logistics."
The boy was mad at himself because he didn't have his wand. If he did, everyone at this school knew that he could cast a mean, mean Incendio. That would have gotten rid of the kidnappers in a jiffy.
Anatole lowered his voice. "I think I've got an idea. It might involve a strategic use of Rictusempra, if you two have learned it yet, and of course, it'll be me as a distraction. I'll run one way and you guys fire off spells. Hit them with a tickle, they'll let go of the girls. Got it?"
Anatole sure hoped they got his plan, because right after he said it, he raced to the right and got about 1 metre away from them. "Um...hey, I'm right here! You looking for a third to capture?"
