Closed Christmas Eve on the Hogwarts Express

Scarletta had just said goodbye to her fellow Gryffindor first years that were going to stay at Hogwarts for the holidays, and was now on the train looking for a compartment. As she had said a longer farewell than she'd expected, she was one of the last to find a seat. Scarletta couldn't wait to see her parents and her little sister, she hadn't seen them for so long! Also, it was her first year, so she wasn't used to being on her own for such a long period of time. I just hope there will still be a free compartment. I can't find a seat anywhere! Scarletta thought. She was starting to lose hope as she had almost reached the end of the train. She opened one of the last compartment doors, and just as she thought she'd never find a place to sit, she saw a girl sitting alone. She looks like a Hufflepuff first year, She thought. And she's not sitting with anyone, so maybe she'll let me sit here too.

"Hello, um may I sit here, or is this seat already taken? It's just that there's no more free compartments," Scarletta asked the girl. "If you don't mind of course." She quickly added. "I'm Scarletta Davis by the way. But if you'd like to be friends, you can just call me Scarlet." She said with a smile.

Finally, it was Christmas break and Violet could, finally, have a break from being homesick. She was going to go home, to her manor, to her parents and like every year both her grandparents would also be present during Christmas. She was excited, she had so much to share, so much that she felt like she had burst up with all of it, any moment. She smiled slightly at the thought, to no one in particular. The atmosphere for obvious reasons, felt peaceful to her.

She had found herself a compartment, avoiding company. Most of her close friends were not going back home for Christmas. She remembered quite vividly the first time she had been on the train and grimaced at the thought of having made her first enemy right here. She hoped she didn't make another one on this very train.

The train of her thoughts was abruptly stopped, as the door of her cabin was pushed open. There stood a blonde girl, whose greenish-blue eyes were hard not to notice. The girl asked if she could sit there, politely and Violet's mind drifted to the guy who had no decency and entered the compartment she occupied without any notice. Violet was no one to deny the girl, and thus she welcomed her inside. "Of course, have a seat. I'm Violet, Violet Rohr. A Hufflepuff as you could guess by my robes, and a first year. It's nice to meet you, Scarlet! And Scarletta is such a pretty name., Violet replied while also sharing a mild compliment, a technique she had realised made the other person comfortable and made her look more approachable.

"Oh, um, thanks for letting me sit here Violet." Scarlet said, as she put away her trunk and sat down opposite her. "And it's nice to meet you too." Scarlet added with a smile. She was very relieved she had found a spot, as when she had reached the last compartment doors she felt like she'd never be able to sit down. As Violet told her she had a pretty name, Scarlet's face lit up, making her green-blue eyes stand out even more beautifully. "Thank you!" She said, "Most people say Scarlet sounds far better. So I usually go by that. But the people who do like my name, they either call me Scarlet, Scarletta, or Letta." She giggled a little when she said that last word, and then added, "Violet is a very nice name too." Scarletta didn't think the train ride back would have been that fun, as she didn't expect to have anyone to talk to. Well, so far this train ride has been far more eventful than I thought it would be! She thought. "Are you looking forward to seeing your family again?" Scarletta asked. She herself was very happy to go back, even though she absolutely loved Hogwarts. "And what are you going to do for Christmas?" She added kindly.

As Violet was told that most people thought that Scarlet sounded far better, she could not help but widen her eyes. She exclaimed, "Really!? I mean, that makes no sense. Scarlett is a pretty name, but Scarletta is seriously prettier and I think it suits you a lot. And thankyou for complementing my name! A coincidence though, we both are named after colours!" Violet giggled as she said the last sentence and continued, "I am not going to go into the deeper meanings of our names, of course."

Scarletta asked if she was looking forward to seeing her family. Ofcourse Violet did, a bit too much rather."I do, I really miss them. I felt homesick the past 4 months. It is going to be lovely, to be returning back, to home."

Violet dreamily smiled as Scarletta asked her about what she was going to do for Christmas. She lost herself, though momentarily, into her memories, thinking about how merry the atmosphere is on Christmas Eve and Christmas. Cutting the line of her thoughts, she replied back, "I hope to celebrate Christmas like we do every year. I hope they have not decorated the pine tree yet. I want to put up the decorations like I do every Christmas. I believe both my grandparents would come, like everytime. I want to tell them all, a lots of things, all sorts of things, I got to see and I did in the past 4 months. Then, on Christmas, we are going to attend the Yule ball. Oh, I'm so looking forward to it all. How about you?"

When Violet told her she liked the name Scarletta more, Scarletta smiled. "Thank you for saying that. it's rather unusual for someone to say they like my real name more. And hardly anyone knows about my middle name." She said, "Fos." She answered the unspoken question, "It comes from Ancient Greek and means light." Then Violet mentioned their names were both colors and that she wouldn't go further into their origins and Scarletta giggled. "It's true! Our names do have something in common!" She smiled. "Oh I'm also very happy to return home. I can't say I've been very homesick, but I certainly miss my family. I can't wait to see them again, it's been so long!" She said, when Violet answered her question. "For us, we all decorate the pine tree together, me and my sister add most of the ornaments, and then the rest of my family finishes the job, each adding their own touch of magic. Then, the next morning, there is a stocking for each of us, and some presents. Oh, and then, we go to the sea, with floo powder, as we have friends there, and there are decorations, and my mother brings her homemade apple pie. Oh I do love her apple pie. If I would ever smell amortentia, I would certainly smell her apple pie. Then, then there is a boat, it feels like I am flying when I am on that boat, and the boat takes us all the way to the yule ball as well. It feels as if the night never ends, until it does, and we all go to bed..." Scarletta said all this with a more dreamy expression on her face, as if she was talking half to herself, and half to Violet.

"Scarletta Fos Davis!?", Violet said, "That is so beautiful. I do not have a middle name, really but just sometimes people use my dad's name as my middle name, like Violet Caspian Rohr."

Violet listened to Scarletta about her family with a smile. Something was absolutely bewitching about people's reactions and emotions, when they talked about their favourite people, their favourite things.

Violet's mouth watered as Scarletta mentioned about apple pie. She missed home cooked food too and was extremely hungry.
Violet was brought back from her daydream about apple pies when the Gryffindor infront of her mentioned about Amortentia. She has always wondered what it would smell like to her or what would it smell like to a person who was in love with her. Anyhow, Violet was keen on letting it be a mystery for now. "You sound like you were born into a wizarding family. Were you? I have never used floo powder, though. How does it feel to use that?, Violet asked.
She started again after a few moments taken by Scarletta to answer, "Well, I have no idea how Amortentia would smell like to me. Your Christmas really sounds dreamy. What gifts do you expect this Christmas?
Realising she was really hungry, and that her stomach would start growling any moment, she interrupted before Scarletta could answer her previously asked question, "Well, I'm hungry. Sorry for interrupting. But how about we order something from the trolley lady. Ever since you talked about apple pie, I haven't been able to control myself. Ah, a pumpkin pasty would perhaps suffice."

"Thank you!" Scarletta blushed at Violet's compliment, "Violet Caspian Rohr sounds very nice too! I think it really suits you."

It's really nice when people listen... Scarletta thought, after she had told her about her Christmas holidays, it feels like what you're saying really is important; she concluded, as she giggled in her thoughts. And it's also very fun to just listen...hearing peoples stories, and traditions...

Violet then asked her about floo powder, and coming from a wizard family, Scarletta had used it many times. "Yes, I do come from a wizarding family, and have traveled with floo powder lots. At first it feels like the smoke and the ash is going to choke you, but don't worry! Once you get used to it, it feels like you're swirling through the chimneys of cities underground, with a neck-breaking speed. If that seems ok to you, I would give it a try! It's not bad actually, but some people feel rather queasy after. I only know of one so far though."

"As a matter of fact, I haven't smelled it either yet. But some of my favorite smells are those, so maybe my amortentia will smell like that too. I'm not sure though. Speaking of food, yes, I've also grown hungry! And we're lucky it's lunchtime already, so the trolley lady should come any moment now." She giggled. "Christmases in the wizard world are always amazing. This year, I don't know what I will get for Christmas. I hope a pair of Pygmy puff slippers, or a pet! I'd love a pet. I don't have one yet, but my parents said I might receive one this Christmas, or the summer before next year. What about you?"
