Dear Danielle Alden,
I wanted to return your copy of A History of Magic. You left it out on one of the tables in the common room when you went to bed tonight.
I borrowed it, since I forgot my copy at home, and my Mum hasn’t sent an owl yet. I hope you don’t mind!
Thank you, it let me finish the homework for Professor Binns before the weekend.
Em Bourne
Em looked at the letter, ensuring the ink had dried before tying both the letter, and the book to a school-loaned owl.
It was the beginning of the year, and Em had yet to make any friends in his house. He didn’t want to impose on any of the other students to ask them to return the book to Danielle’s dormitory. So, he chose to send an owl; knowing it should make it to her during breakfast.
The dawn was cold, and he was lucky to have snuck out of the castle to go to the owlery so early. As the owl flew away, of to grab a meal prior to delivering the parcel, Em descended that steps of the tower, eager to get some porridge before class.

Emmanuel BourneDanielle had nearly torn apart her part of the dorm looking for her History of Magic book. If it didn't turn up, she'd just have to ask to share with her partner in the class or borrow from someone. Dani racked her brain for any memory of where exactly she could've left her book. Coming up with nothing, she cursed in French before sighing, knowing that she had to get down to the Great Hall for breakfast before classes that day.
Entering the Great Hall, she took a seat at her table and filled her plate with some eggs and toast before filling her cup with juice, continuing to rack her brain for answers. So caught up in her thoughts and her breakfast, she hadn't noticed it was mail delivery time until she heard a thunk beside her and the sound of an owl after in. Shaking herself from her thoughts, she grabbed an extra piece of toast from the platter and fed it to the Owl before untying a letter and... her missing History of Magic book!
A smile broke out on her face as she opened the cover of the book to see her handwriting scrawled on the inside before opening the letter and reading it. After reading the short letter, she looked up and took a quick glance around the Ravenclaw table to see if she could pick out this 'Em Bourne'. She thought about writing a letter back, but she decided against it, wanting to thank Em in person.

Em finished his second bowl of porridge, as the flood of owls filled the room. Dropping off letters, fresh copies of the Daily Prophet with moving pictures visible, and care packages of items left at home.
He watched as the tawny brown owl he used earlier flew in, a package in tow. He kept his eyes on it, until it landed next to a distracted blonde girl, who fed it toast.
She at least didn’t look mad, almost relieved that she had the book back. Em felt a bit guilty, knowing he shouldn’t have borrowed it. However, no owl arrived carrying his book, so he figured it was no harm, no foul.
He scooped one of the last spoonfuls of porridge, topped with syrup, into his mouth. He saw Dani looking around, and before he knew it, they locked eyes. His cheeks turned rosy, and his most recent bite seemed caught in his mouth.
Em looking down at the bowl, hoping that he wasn’t seen. But, he was also hoping she did; if only just to apologize.
He swallowed, and looked back up; he ordering if she would somehow know who he was, and that she didn’t think he was a thief.

@Emmanuel BourneAs she glanced around the Ravenclaw table, her blue eyes locked with hazel. Observing the boy, she cracked a smile as he seemed to be frozen in place, a pink hue on his cheeks. Observing the boy further, she saw his crooked tie and his chesnut hair, styled into a shaggy taper fade. He seemed to be around an average height and have a more scrawny build. Then he broke the eye contact.
She looked back down towards the letter after he broke eye contact with her. 'Could that be 'Em Bourne?'' Danielle thought. Even if it was not, she figured she could still gain a friend out of an interaction. Dani then finished her breakfast and pet the owl a couple times before it flew away. She grabbed an apple, shoving it in her bag for later before grabbing her bag and slinging it over her shoulder. She also grabbed the letter and her History of Magic book, tucking it under her arm before making her way over to the boy who'd been watching her.
"Are you... Em Borne?" She asked, consulting the letter for his name. "Couldn't help but notice you watching." She spoke with a light laugh.

Em watched Dani from the side of his eye, as she stood up, grabbed an apple, and made her way over to him.
She stood before him, blonde hair framed her face; skin pale, looked soft. She was well kept, even in her uniform. Her blue eyes were round and kind, flecked with gold Best the pupils.
Em was taught to always look someone in the eye when they spoke to you. Reflexively, he straightened his back, and quietly cleared his throat, saliva finally coating his tongue again.
“I didn’t mean to stare, I’m very sorry. I just wanted to make sure that you got your book back,” he said sheepishly. “I didn’t see you before you went to bed last night, I only found the book on a table.”
Em felt he started to ramble, almost in defense of his utilization of the book. He shook the nerves from his head.
“Yeah, I’m Em. Nice to meet you Danielle! I just wanted to finish the homework for Binns. You’re more than welcome to take a look,” he offered, going for his bag and pulling out a roll of parchment. “It was dreadfully dull, I’ll be honest.”
He hoped he recovered well enough. Em had heard of the Alden family from his Great Grandfather, and knew they held esteem in the wizarding world.

@Emmanuel BourneDanielle observed how Em's posture immediately straightened, making eye contact with her as she spoke. He must've been taught that proper manners were important. She laughed lightly as the boy began to ramble on, defending himself for using her book. She could tell he was slightly nervous.
"Nice to meet you Em!" She said with a small smile, hoping the action brought the boy some comfort, "And it is quite alright, I do not mind. Though I will admit that I was quite stressed about it," The blonde laughed, watching him pull out the homework he completed using her book, "Practically destroyed my space of the dorm looking for it."
Danielle realized a second later that maybe that wasn't the smart thing to say. She didn't want to make him feel more nervous or guilty than he already did. She shook her head slightly before continuing, "Just... thank you for making sure I got it back," She said after a brief second. "Do you mind if I sit... and take a look at that homework for History of Magic?" She asked, gesturing to the spot beside Em. She hadn't even touched the boring homework for the even more dull class, and with Em's kind offer, she was going to take advantage of doing as much as she could.

Em gestured to the empty seat across the table from him. He pushed his mostly empty bowl off to the side, and pulled his glass of juice a bit closer to him. Em unraveled the scroll, and turned the homework toward Dani, making sure she could read it.
"It's mostly about a troll attack near an original all-wizarding colony in Scotland. Not particularly interesting, the troll was jinxed to sleep." Em explained, pulling back and taking a sip of juice. "I can't say I enjoy Binns at all. I almost fell asleep."
Em looked at Dani in the eyes, and internally settled a bit. She looked kind, and there didn't seem to be a gleam of anger in her eyes for his borrowing her book without asking. In that moment, Em made a choice to initiate a possible friendship; figuring now is better than never.
"It seems like it may be a tradition to sneak about the castle at night," Em mentioned, lowering his voice. "I heard that all you have to do is tickle the pear in the portrait outside of the kitchen. I was thinking it might be nice to celebrate the first week of classes with the other first year Ravenclaws with some butter beer in the common room. Doesn't that sound nice?" Em bemused, smirking and raising his eyebrows at the question.

@Emmanuel BourneDanielle grinned, muttering a quick thanks to Em as he moved his things to the side so she could take a seat. She set her bag next to her and rummaged around for a quick second before she pulled out a roll of parchment and a quill so she could write down a few notes for later.
"You don't mind, do you?" She asked him as she began to read Em's homework and write down a few important points, though her writing slowed down as she carefully listened to Em's quiet words, a small smile on her face at his idea.
"So, you're planning on having a party?" Danielle whispered back softly. "It does sound quite nice." She admitted, looking up to see the smirk on Em's face.
I mean, why shouldn't they celebrate? They were just about to finish their first official week at Hogwarts ever! First ever week of classes. First week of an important part of their life for the next seven years. Plus, they were never going to get that perfect 'first week ever' feel with Hogwarts ever again. And if they did, the feeling would be dialed down, since it wouldn't be their first year anymore.
"I think it sounds like a great idea."

Em smirked, feeling validated in his decision to trust Dani in this quest. He looked from side to side, just to make sure he wasn’t being overheard by anyone else.
The closest students were more entranced in their own gossip, or still waking up; unable to fully comprehend English just yet. Em figured one of the perks of getting up earlier was that his mind was already awake, and ready to develop mischievous plans.
“Since it’s Thursday, I would suppose we would need to make our journey tomorrow during Dinner feast,” Em contemplated, quietly to Dani. “I don’t think this will be possible without getting detention, unless I have a look out. That’s where you come in.”
Em pulled his quill from his bag, and tore a large corner off a roll of empty parchment. He dipped his quill in Dani’s ink, and looked at her. “I confess, I’ve been a bit timid in the common room. Do you know how many first years we’ve got? Including us, I think it’s six?”
Em smiled as he posed the question, hoping Dani might be his informant. She was charismatic, pretty, and kind. He figured she would’ve mingled more than he had.

@Emmanuel BourneA brief look of confusion passed over Danielle's face. Why wouldn't he want other Ravenclaws to hear about it if he was having a party? After all, the larger parties were the ones that were more fun. Danielle shook it off continuing to listen carefully to Em's plan.
"So basically, I'm to be your lookout while you get stuff from the kitchen, and if someone is coming, I have to warn you or something?" She asked, just making sure she was on the right thought track.
She thought over his plan in her head, reaching to the middle of the table to grab a chocolate chip muffin. Tearing off a bit of the muffin, watching as he dipped his quill in her ink and tore off a corner of parchment.
"Oh I'm sure there's way more than six Ravenclaw first years," She commented, tearing off another bite of the muffin and eating it. "And, if there is a small amount of first-year Ravenclaws, why not just invite other younger years, like second and third. Even if you didn't invite them, I'm sure some would go anyway. Word travels fast." Dani suggested. Like she said before, bigger parties are fun parties. "Up to you though, Em."
