An unexpected meetup
Aedion Sorrengail was carrying a heavy load of books in his bag. On days like this, the wish to have a personal house elf increased a lot. Back home the house was swarmed with servants - as he was known to call them. Some of them would take care of the house, or the garden, or the food they ate. It was known that Hogwarts housed many house elves. They were brought there by Helga Hufflepuff back in the day to give them a proper life. Aedion thought nothing of it. For him, house elves were servants. This didn't mean he disrespected them, but he'd rather not get too close to them either.
When it felt like he couldn't go on anymore, he had found his way out of the castle and onto the courtyard. The sun was shining and although Aedion usually disliked the sun and the warmth it brought, the sun in March wasn't as bad as the sun in July or August.
The Slytherin boy dropped his heavy bag of books and flopped down on one of the stone benches surrounding the courtyard. He closed his eyes, leaned back on his hands and let out a loud sigh. Hogwarts was as much as he had expected of it. He found was close friends with a couple of his fellow Slytherin students in his year and he had been talking with several Ravenclaws and Gryffindors along the way.
The boy looked up and picked up his bag, in which he carried his quills, parchment, notebooks and books. From the bag he picked up a copy of his Potions book and he opened it on his lap. I wonder... he thought to himself as he compared his notes to the information in the book. Who wrote this down? It doesn't seem correct at all. What was I thinking!?

Hogwarts was amazing. Or 'amazeballs' as Lithaen Galathynius would to say. The young girl enjoyed every little thing the castle had to offer. The long corridors, the grounds and even the glasses! Lithaen wasn't a stupid or dumb girl, though she wasn't very smart either. She was just an average Gryffindor girl who frequently chose adventure over learning. That wasn't a bad thing, she thought. Her mother had always told her she had a bubbly and bright personality and therefore Lithaen thought she was allowed to have fun.
With a few books, without a bag, Lithaen was looking for a spot to study. She'd had a bit too much fun lately with her Gryffindor friends. So it was time to study. Just study and nothing else. Or.. soon her eye felt on a lost cat walking on the grass. "So cute," she mumbled to no-one in particular. Then she saw a funny looking cloud and there was a Slytherin boy sitting on a bench. Why study when she could make friends?!
In an instant she strode over to the boy. "Hello! Who are you? My name is Lithaen. Lithaen Galathynius. How are you?" She looked at him with her big eyes and when she sat down, her curly hair was bouncing. "I do have to study, Slytherin boy," she then continued, "but it's Saturday! I hate doing boring stuff on a Saturday. Saturday is supposed a day off isn't it?" She sighed heavily. "When I was young I always had to do chores on Saturday. I hate chores! Do you?"

His parents had told him all there was to know about Hogwarts. They both had been Hogwarts students as well. His father had been in Slytherin just like Aedion was now. His mother, however, had been a Ravenclaw student and even though he was in Slytherin, Aedion had quite a few character traits from his mother. He was ambitious and had been working hard since the first day he was at Hogwarts. There was hardly any time for pranks or fun things and perhaps he had to change it up a little. Hence why he was involving himself with Gryffindors at times, too.
Even though the March sun wasn't as bad as the sun could be in other months, it already had started to bother him. Perhaps he had to find himself a place in the shade instead, but there wasn't much time to think as a redhaired girl seemed to make her way through the courtyard. Though she appeared to be distracted by... lots of things, she also seemed determined to do something else.
His eyebrow rose slightly on his forehead as the girl sat down next to him and started babbling about all sorts of things. "Hello, Lithaen," he said calmly. "My name is Aedion Sorrengail and I'm good, though the sun is a little too bright for me." He looked up at the sun and shook his fist, as if that would change anything. "I wonder when we'll learn weather controlling spells..."
A slight smile appeared on his face. It was all too clear, even despite her uniform, that she was a Gryffindor student. "It is rather unfair that we have to study on Saturday, I do agree with you." A heavy sigh left his mouth. "I hate them too, but we have a lot of house elves at home, don't you? What kind of chores are we talking?" he asked her curiously. "It is supposed to be a day off. What were you planning to study today? I need to fix up my Potions notes. It appears I was sleeping during the last class I had." He held up his messy notebook. "I mean... look at it!"

Lithaen grew up in Scotland with her parents, her twin brother and her two older brothers. Her parents weren’t very rich, but their life was pretty good. They had their own garden with their own vegetables. They even had a few muggle animals, such as a cow for milk and a few chickens! Lithaen loved the little farm. She loved (and missed!) her family. She loved, in fact, everything! She fell in love very easily. Just not with people. She was only eleven years old!
She fell in love with animals, places and everything else she enjoyed. One of the classes she enjoyed most was Care of Magical Creatures. When she was very, very old - old like her parents - she wanted to work with dragons. Or maybe become a quidditch player! There were so many opportunities, she just didn’t know yet. Luckily she didn’t have to know yet.
Lithaen smiled at the boy sitting next to her. He had such a calm voice! He’s probably very cool and popular! she thought. Compared to him, she felt like a baby. “Hello Aedion. That is such a beautiful name! Lovely! Do you have a nickname? Aeddy? Or.. Let me think..” She looked at the sky and smiled. “Look, that cloud looks like a cat!” She was very easily distracted.
“You do? More than one?” Her eyes got big. “Yes, I mean.. We do have one, but he’s very old and very grumpy and my mother always told me..” She tried to imitate her mothers voice. “Lithaen, when you’re at Hogwarts you need to clean up your mess too!” She giggled a bit. “Chores like cleaning my room, take care of the animals… I think my parents hate me.” She grabbed her books.
“Erm, Transfiguration and.. everything else.” She sighed and looked at his notebook. “Oh. That isn’t even a word and that..” She laughed. “You were definitely sleeping, ha! But hey, why sleep during the night when one can sleep during the day? What are your favourite subjects, Aeddy?”

Growing up in an all-wizard family certainly had some advantages. He had noticed there were all sorts of students at Hogwarts and he learned from each one new stories. Stories about their lives of growing up in a wizard family, but also stories about children growing up in Muggle families. Aedion had never learned much about Muggles, although his parents weren't the type of wizards who 'hated' Muggles. Sure, Aedion thought some things Muggles did were weird, but he supposed Muggles also thought things he did (and found quite normal) were strange.
Aedion hadn't expected to learn so many new things in only his first few weeks, months, at Hogwarts. The other children at school were, mostly, nice company. But his favourite students were mostly from his own house, Slytherin. He noticed that most of his character traits were overlapping with them, which made them easy to talk to. The girl he just met, the extreme bubbly Gryffindor, was different in most ways. Where Aedion was quiet and calm, she seemed to be the exact opposite. But that might just be the thing he needed.
"Thanks!" said Aedion with a smile on his face. "Your name is nice as well, but your last name is... Unique. I have never heard it before. Where are you from?" He had to think about a nickname for a moment, but she seemed to think of her own nickname already. "Aeddy is fine, I suppose." He wouldn't share with her how his parents would call him most of the time, as it embarrassed him.
He looked up at the cloud en twisted his head a little. "Eh, right... I think I can see it from this angle." He frowned, not entirely sure if he actually saw a cat.
"Aren't most house elfs grumpy and old?" he thought out loud. "We don't have to clean our room much, do we? The house elfs always seem to clean things up when I get back to the common room."
Aedion looked at her pile of homework and giggled while shaking his head. "Haven't you done anything the past week? I only need to finish up my Potions notes and them I'm done for the day. I usually sleep during the night... But apparently not this time." A sigh left his mouth. "My favourites are Potions, Herbology, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Charms... And... History of Magic! What are yours?"

Before Hogwarts Lithaen didn't know much about muggles. They had never lived near muggles and therefore they never really had a reason to connect with them. Sometimes when her family visited London, they visited a few muggle stores. And they sold the weirdest things! Phones, televisions and other stuff Lithaen just didn't understand. Why the hell did muggles put their own people in televisions in order to watch them!? That was just brutal!
Therefore she didn't know what to think of all the muggleborn students at Hogwarts. She didn't hate them. Of course she didn't. She didn't hate anything! She was in fact a bit curious about them, but she was always a bit scared she would end op in one of their televisions. As some kind of punishment. She knew people could find her very annoying.
"Unique?" Lithaen raised an eyebrow. "Is that a good thing? I'm from Scotland! What about you? England?" She didn't even give him a chance to answer her questions.
"Amazing! Aeddy it is!" She smiled brightly. "It's cute, isn't it? The cloud, I mean. Not your name. Do you like cats? And yes, most house elfs are grumpy and old."
Lithaen shrugged. "I didn't do nóthing. I tried to sneak into the library in the night, I ate a million chicken wings, I explored the castle and.. I just didn't do nothing, Aeddy!" She talked to him like they hadn't just met.
"Wow, you are so lucky." She sighed. "All of them? You must be very smart? Mine are Care of Magical Creatures, Flying, Herbology and lunch break!"

Aedion was looking forward to learning more about the wizarding world. Of course, when growing up, his parents taught him all the things they thought were important. They talked about some history, about spells that could be useful and many other subjects. He really saw the benefits in school already, but it didn't feel like he was much ahead of everyone else. At least not because of what his parents told him. It was more because of his own hard work that he seemed to be performing well in class.
Due to his mother being a true Ravenclaw woman, he would've done well in that house as well. But he was happy about being in Slytherin. He was ambitious and had big dreams for his future, but at times he could really enjoy not having his nose stuck in a book and do something else. He couldn't wait until they would be able to go to Hogsmeade in the future. Spend the galleons his parents gave him as an allowance and get the things that made his heart beat faster.
The boy put a strand of hair behind his ear, but the soft wind would blow it away each time again. He liked his hair long, even when some people would say it was weird. Aedion was different in many ways and he liked it.
"I think unique is definitely a good thing," he said to her with a smile. "Cool! I've been to Scotland a few times," Aedion said as if it was something very special. "I'm from England, quite boring isn't it?" Another sigh left his mouth, followed by a chuckle.
It was a nice change to be able to talk with Lithaen like this on a day like this. "You tried to sneak into the library!? How did you do that. I assume it failed?" While shaking his head, he looked at the Gryffindor girl. "Did you find any cool stuff on your exploration? I feel like I need to do more of that, but I just can't seem to find the time..." He shrugged. "Yes, all of them! I don't think I'm very smart. My mom was in Ravenclaw, so maybe? Lunch break is important! And breakfast! And dinner! Are you any good at flying yet?"

The only friends Lithaen had found so far were all Gryffindors. They all liked adventures, like she did. This meant they had no intention of helping her to keep up with her schoolwork. Thus she needed some friends who did! Back at home, her mother tried to let her focus, but at Hogwarts, she had to do this on her own. And this just didn´t work. She was distracted all the time and her friend only helped her to get even more distracted. A friend like Aedion could be what she needed!
Lithaen didn´t see a difference between the houses. Of course, Slytherin students were very different from Gryffindors, but in the end, she liked them all the same. She was very eager to meet students other than Gryffindors. Aedion was very kind and very interesting. He could make a great friend.
Lithaen wasn´t only a Gryffindor by heart; people always told her she looked a bit like a lion too. She had long curly red hair like the manes of a lion.
"Me too!" she admitted with a smile. "I like unique people! Normal people are just.. boring!" She smiled brightly. "Oh, really!? How did you like Scotland? Where did you go?" She shook her head. "No! Why would that be boring? England is amazing! You all sound so.. rich! And famous!"
Lithaen giggled. "I did and yes, it failed drastically. I distracted the prefects with cauldron cakes and then I crawled over the ground, nothing special actually!" She giggled again. "Not yet. I'm always getting caught. I might be a bit impulsive, but -" her eyes got big while talking "-if you join me on an adventure someday, we can use your brain and my adventure knowledge! Because you should do more of that!"
Lithaen shook her head. "I do think you're smart," she admitted. "Yes! I enjoy the food over here. What are your favourites? I must have some cauldron cakes somewhere.." She spontaneously grabbed one out of her pocket. "Want to share?

When Aedion grew up, he dreamt of doing something with potions or herbology. Those were his top favourite subjects and he felt like he was quite good at it, too. Despite being only eleven years old, it felt to him like he knew exactly what he wanted to do in the future. However, being eleven years old meant he still hadn't developed all of his skills completely, meaning that he might well change his dreams a few more times before he graduated Hogwarts in a couple of years.
In the mean time it might be good for him to really enjoy his time here. This could be done in various ways, but to him it felt like he really needed to start bending the rules a little. Obviously not breaking them, never break them, but just have some fun and see how far he could go. The girl he just met seemed to be just the person who could get him that far.
She even looked like a true Gryffindor, which was funny to him. Her hair made her look like a lion and her behavior was just what he expected from a Gryffindor student.
"Same! Unique people are much more fun if you ask me." Her enthusiasm was contagious and even when Aedion was usually more of a serious type, she brought out a good side of him. "I went to Edinburgh for a couple of days, I liked it a lot! Lots of historical things to see." His cheeks went bright red. "Really? I always think being English is... a little boring."
He listened to her story about her library adventure and he couldn't help but chuckle. "We could go on an adventure some day. But please, we need to start slow. I'm not an experienced adventurer and I am honestly a little scared. I don't wanna be expelled, you know." Aedion watched her as she took out some cauldron cakes and his eyes grew wide. "Those are my favourites! Of course I want to share." He took part of the cauldron cake and took a big bite. "Hmmm, never fails to warm my insides."

Lithaen never thought about the possibility of getting expelled. She never thought at all when it came to an adventure. She enjoyed bending the rules. Breaking them even. She never thought about the consequences. She was never afraid to get punished. Or getting expelled! That would, however, be horrible. School wasn't her favourite hobby, but Hogwarts was magical. She did want to learn anything she needed to know to become a great witch.
Even when she choose to be a Quidditch player or even if she wanted to work with dragons, she had to finish her study. Besides this, she wanted to finish her study. She wanted to learn spells and she wanted to learn how to create a good potion. Not only for her pranks, but for her later life too. Otherwise she would end up like a squib or something! Not that she was a squib, but she still was afraid she'd become one if she screwed this up.
According to Lithaen Aedion looked like a real Slytherin boy. He had long hair, which made him look quite mysterious and the look on his face was darkish - even though he was very kind to her.
"Edinburgh is amazing! Best city in the world if you ask me! I'm glad to hear you enjoyed it." She chuckled. "Why? I don't think it's boring at all! You're not boring. Your hair is so pretty - it looks so silky and soft and it's even prettier than my dolls hair!" This was probably not what an eleven year boy would like to hear, but Lithaen didn't think about that at all. She was just trying to be nice.
"Sure! We can start slow. I'll teach you everything you need to know about being an adventurer. Can you teach me how to study then?" She took a bit bite of her cauldron cake. "Swame!" she said with her mouth full of cake. "And chicken! So, Aeddy, what would you like to explore today?"
