Dancing Feet & Repairing Charm | Lesson One - Year One | Emmanuel Bourne
@Emily Shephard
The morning turned over, and Emmanuel felt himself waking, excitement coursing his veins.
Sleepily still, he looked around the Boy's Dormitory in Ravenclaw tower. There were other first year students in various stages of readiness. Some muggle-born boys were already in full robes, debating on when the best time to leave the dormitory and head to breakfast would be. Conversely, there were others who were still sound asleep; drool dripping from the corner of their mouths.
Em stirred, and sat up, rubbing the nervousness from last night out of his eyes, before his anxiety returned anew. He stood up, and turned to his trunk, seeing his first day robes were already laid out; alike all the other boys in his dormitory. "I wonder how they do that," Em thought, clearly not quite awake to consider "magic" as a legitimate response (certainly not awake enough to logically consider House Elves).
Em pulled on his robes, now brandishing the new Ravenclaw house badge, where a generic Hogwarts crest used to be. He stepped to the bathroom, brushed his teeth, combed his hair, and attempted to straighten his tie (it was crooked; again).
When he again entered the sleeping quarters, the other first years were getting prepared to leave to the Great hall. Some more eager, other still very sleepy now with dried drool on the crux of their lips.
Em stepped back to his bed, and grabbed his newly resewed bag, full of his first day books. He reached over and grabbed his Aspen wand from his bed-side table, and tucked it into his robes. Lastly, he grabbed his pointed hat, and tossed it on his head.
______
Post breakfast, Emmanuel followed the other first year Ravenclaws to their first class of the day: Charms. A combined class with Hufflepuff students; Em took a seat in the second row, closest to the aisle. He couldn't wait to start his first class. Em adorned the desk infront of him with his school book, a roll of parchment, and his new quill and ink. Class began.
The Dancing feet charm. Tarantallegra. A spell originally developed in Italy; used to humiliate your opponent in a duel by having their legs spasm wildly, in an uncoordinated dance.
Introduced to the class in theory, the professor did not allow them to practice it quite yet, until it was understood better. Emmanuel took detailed notes, admiring the information from his spell book.
The Repairing Charm. Reparo. A charm used to mend broken objects. Extremely versatile. Effective on most ordinary objects; and used as a staple in wizard-life.
Em was especially excited to learn this charm. Mainly for it's practical effects in his life; like repairing the book bag that broke on the train yesterday. In fact, he glanced back to Emily; the Hufflepuff student he met after his bag ripped. Em mouthed his excitement to learn the spell that would have been extraordinarily useful to them yesterday.
They worked in pairs, taking turns attempting to fix a ripped piece of paper. Em was bashful, allowing his partner take the lead.
On each of his turns, he held his aspen wand over the ripped paper. Em felt a small knot in his stomach, wanting to be good at the spell immediately.
He moved his wand in a reverse spiral, the tip moving graciously above the paper. Em subtly cleared his throat, and spoke “ Reparo! .”
Em felt a small tingling in his fingers, but nothing happened. He gave a small sigh, and allowed his partner to continue. They traded off, attempt after attempt of a consistent reverse spiral, and muttering the encantation “Reparo”, to little avail.
It may have been wonderful for them to get it their first try, but class was over before they knew it; the paper before them still torn. Class number one, a success.

Walking into the class, Emily already came to the decision that charms would probably be one of the most difficult for her. The whole journey up to Hogwarts, she'd seen many students, both new and returning, show off some kind of magical talent. Emily may have had a wand, but it was still just a stick unless she could make sparkles light up at the end, something she was still very sure she couldn't do. In spite of all the books she read, she was sure magic didn't exist. Of course, that statement was well outdated by now.
Walking in, she spotted Emmanuel. At least that was one friendly face, she thought. She picked a seat close to him where she sported a shy but friendly smile. She sat behind him while a few other students took the vacant seats around her.
While her practical skills would be up for debate in only a matter of time, she devoured all the theory behind the day's lessons. If there was one saving grace, it was her ability to absorb and project knowledge. She thought back to flicking through each of her new books on the train in the time she spent reading alone. Every word the professor spoke, she nodded in either intrigue, recollection or both.
When practising the "Repairo" charm, she anxiously pulled out her wand from the inside of her robe. With each student provided with a strip of torn paper, the task was simple... repair it, obviously.
She watched intently as her classmates around her rehearsed the charm before casting it. When it came to her turn she let her brain take the lead. She knew what to do and how to do it. Therefore, all she had to do was just do it. And after a few goes, it was clear she was getting nowhere with it. She sighed defeatedly, despite the "kudos for trying" words of encouragement from the people sitting beside her,
At the same time, she watched Emmanuel have a go with his partner. She wondered how he was getting on...

Violet had her books pressed against her chest as she was harmoniously walking from this mornings breakfast towards her first class: Charms. She had already perused the syllabus for this class and she was excited to get started. She thought The Dancing Feet Spell sounded absolutely ridiculous, but in a ''ridiculously funny'' sort of way. When she saw the spell's name in the syllabus she had decided to read up on the origin of it and found it even more ridiculous but also impressive. When it came to the Mending Charm she was even more excited - this was definitely a charm that she could use in her day-to-day life.
As she reached the classroom she realised she was a bit early so she decided to have a seat outside the classroom and flip through the course book and the syllabus again. There were so many interesting things ahead to learn and practice, Violet could barely wait!
After a short while the space outside the classroom had accumulated more first year students. She chatted with some of them and then it was time to enter the classroom. It was decorated in a spooky manner with a playful undertone, and being a fan of the horror genre Violet absolutely loved what the professor had done.
The air had a warm and sweet smell to it and for a second Violet could not pinpoint it's origin until she saw the table filled with desserts - as if Hogwarts could get any better. There were little skeletons on all the desks and some others that were holding instruments and a bunch of other decorations. When the professor started speaking Violet automatically wanted to absorb any information and knowledge she may have, partly because of Violet's own curiosity and will to learn but also because of the way that the professor was teaching them - it was such an enjoyable manner.
Violet carefully followed the professor's instructions throughout the class and took notes meticulously. She did her best to follow the rules the professor had mentioned in order to succeed with the charm and the spell. After the class she would ask the professor some follow up questions she had and she would share notes with other students.

Dancing Feet & Repairing Charm | Lesson One - Year One | Emmanuel Bourne
Edward waked up from another nightmare in the Ravenclaw boys dorms. He noticed that it was time to get up, and all the other boys in the dorm were already getting dressed. He couldn't help but notice that they were staring at him with hostility and were whispering behind his back in terse worried voices. He ignored them, as he got on his robes silently.
He got out his books, which he had already memorized by heart. He then rushed down the stairs, ready for his first lesson. Charms! He then headed out, where all the other kids were glaring at him, which didn't really bother him. He was ready to prove all of them wrong
He arrived in the nick of time to the classroom, where the Professor wrote on the board that said that they were going to be doing the repairing and dancing feet charms. He was so excited to perform it. He knew all about these. It was really exciting.
The professor finally told them to get their wands out and perform the spells.
They started with the repairing charm. The teacher pulled out some broken vases and pots. He put them each on a desk, and told them to do their best.
While all the other students struggled, Edward pulled out his wand and made a inward spiraling motion with his wand and said, "Reparo!" *And his vase repaired on the first try. The professor clapped, seeing him do it so easily.
All the other students weren't happy. They looked at Edward with hostility. They were jealous. They couldn't believe that someone with such a background as Edward could do such a spell on his first try. Next thing Edward had to do is the dance feet spell. As the professor told everyone to get a partner, no one wanted to join Edward. The professor said he would do it with Edward.
Edward raised his wand, and said "Tarantallegra!" while making a motion that resembled human feet.
The professor started doing the dance, as he laughed. He then said, "Finte!" and the spell undid itself. He looked pleased, but now the students looked at Edward, with pure rage. The most anyone else did was make their partners legs twitch.
Edward smirked at them, happy at their angry faces. He showed them. But, he noticed that not all looked angry. Some looked impressed. A few were smiling at him. He smiled back at them.
As he walked out the professor stopped Edward before he left. He told Edward, "That was very impressive. I didn't expect a student to do that on their first try. But, you excelled. Don't let these students go around making you feel bad about you Dad. He may have been evil, but you're you, not him. Don't let them ruin you day. It will only make things worse."
Edward smiled, and nodded. But, he couldn't help thinking that it was easier said then done. It wasn't just the students who looked at him bad. The teachers, while not rude, looked at him like he was a bomb about to go off. He noticed them all the time doing that. He was ready to bet anything that they were trying to see how I will be. Good, or bad. He had a lot to go.
