After a couple of weeks at the school, Ernest could safely say he developed a routine. It was easy to keep up with everything scheduled for him. Wake up. Eat. Class. Study. Class. Eat. Class. He figured this life could be very peaceful if he didn’t think too hard about everything. Though, then he would be in for a shock every time he was sent back to his new ‘home’.

He sighed as he rolled off his bed and stretched, time to eat again. He figured he could finish his potion essay after, though it didn’t sound too enticing. His back popped at the stretch, making slight soreness spread. Great, just what he wanted.

The walk up to the Great Hall was loud as tens of other students came to eat too, some pushing as they ran in, others laughing in groups. Ernest figured he could have asked some of the boys to join him, but if anything a quiet dinner might be nice.

He sat down near the end, ignoring all of the other first years he sat near. He filled his plate, then pushed his hair behind his ears, before beginning to eat. He figured everyone had already gotten used to his pointed ears, hell he swore he saw a 5th year with horns once, so he paid them no mind.

Maybe that was a mistake.

Until now, Elisa's experience in Hogwarts has been wonderful! She had already made friends and also gotten used to the tight class schedule in Hogwarts, It was quite shocking at first since Elisa was never the type to get used to a certain repeated schedule without taking a month to get used to it, maybe Hogwarts has already started changing her,

As the young blonde walked into the Great Hall, thousands of chit-chats instantly hit her, as each second passed, the talks got louder and louder to the fact that Elisa couldn't stand anymore but had to ignore it not to cause any drama, As Elisa walked towards the Slytherin table, she spotted a boy sitting alone, it seemed like he was quite quiet compared to the rest of the Slytherins, the young girl slowly walked towards him and sat next to him

At first, she tried her best to ignore him, she didn't want the boy to get uncomfortable or be taken out of his comfort zone because of her, as the young Slytherin piled up her plate with some food, she noticed the boy's pointy ears, she swore seeing some other Hufflepuff with the same ears too, As she began munching on her dinner, the last meal of her day, her curiosity increased about what exactly was the boy?

While the delicious taste of the food made by the house elves hit her tongue, her focus remained on the boy, there was something unique about him, something that she just hadn't noticed. As Elisa continued to eat, her mind was filled with thoughts, she was for some reason trying to remember her book knowledge, It was at that moment, that the thought hit her, the boy was short for his age and had pointy ears, these were the characteristics of a Goblin!

Elisa instantly turned to the boy with her usual face and asked "Are you a goblin? I couldn't help but notice, how unique and similar you look to a goblin", her words came out strong at first but got lower word by word to the point that it was barely a whisper, she didn't want to make a fool out of herself in front of the boy, the worst thing that could happen was that the boy wasn't a goblin and she had just misunderstood the looks....

He tried to appear somewhat less shocked than he felt by the girl’s blunt words. Well, yes, he was a goblin but she could have asked without pointing out his appearance that way. ‘Unique and similar to a goblin?’ He couldn’t help but be offended. Sure, he would never consider his grandfather to be ugly because he was a goblin, but he does question why his grandmother decided he was the person she wanted to have kids with.

Ernest tried to politely clean his mouth off, the soup he was slurping up slipping down the side of his mouth. “I... Well, yes,” He said, looking down the table some to the girl. She was blonde and very pretty but her analyzing gaze was intimidating and made him feel slightly uneasy.

“I take it you know something about goblins and what they actually look like so, pureblood are you? Are maybe half? Muggleborns keep calling me an elf so I have more faith that you aren’t one of those.” He said as he sat back away from his food.

Well, he wanted to know something about her if she was asking about him. A fact for a fact. It’s only fair.

Elisa found herself taken aback as she received a response from the boy sitting beside her, she had expected no answer to her question. His unexpected reply caused her to shift her focus away from her food and back to him. It was when she faced the boy, that a sudden realization struck her; it wasn't right of her to judge his magical race solely based on his appearance. His facial expression, unmistakably held annoyance in it, serving as a clear indicator that her previous comment had hit a nerve in him,

As she took in his reply, she no longer had to worry about the fact that she might have misunderstood his magical race by his looks, since If he weren't a goblin then she would have been too embarrassed to even show her face to him ever again, after 2-3 minutes of taking in the fact, Elisa finally responded " Goblins are cool!! I have read a bit about goblins..", Goblins were creatures whom she has seen whenever she has visited Gringotts along with her parents but speaking to one? This was her first time and she had not much idea of how to properly speak to a goblin without offending them,

Elisa was about to go back to her food but she instantly stopped, when she heard the boy say something, he was asking about her blood status since he was very sure that Elisa wasn't a muggle-born since they were constantly calling him an elf, 'That's quite offensive' she thought while listening to the boy next to her, after he stopped talking, Elisa instantly replied "I am a pureblood, I had actually read about goblins and had even seen them a couple of times during my visits to Gringotts with my parents!", this time her voice was a bit louder than before, it was just a bit louder than a whisper,

After a while, Elisa's mind was flooded with guilt for rudely assuming the boy's race by his looks, She wished to apologize but neither did she wish to annoy him more by mentioning it, after a couple of minutes, the side of her which wished to apologize took the better of her, as the young Slytherin slowly turned towards the boy, her eyes carrying a light amount of guilt and said "By the way, I'm so sorry for assuming your magical race by your looks, I shouldn't have done it, my curiosity took the better of me", Elisa then slowly turned toward her food, as she continued to eat while expecting no answer from the boy next to her.....

Ernest felt a slight satisfaction seeing the blonde girl look so shocked by his questioning. He figured it was a very big jump in conversation for her, though he thought species status was right there with blood status. Her wide eyes showcased their sea green color, speckless much to the part goblin's surprise. He has taken them for a hazel green before, but no, they lacked any brown.

"You do seem to fit the picture of a pureblooded witch, very well." He said as he resumed his meal. "I figure I don't fit the picture of a goblin though, besides ya know; the fingers and ears." He smiled slightly at his own joke, before looking back up at the girl. "You have probably seen my grandfather at the bank, he's the one with- well you probably wouldn't be able to tell the difference honestly."

He shrugged and took another bite of his meal. He figured most goblins look the same when you haven't seen many in your life, not for a good amount of time.

He had returned completely to his meal when the girl seemed to get lost in her thoughts, he figured she was trying to think of some noticeable difference in the goblins, maybe to prove she did know more than the average pureblood girl. He was surprised when she apologized, he didn't expect anything of the kind from her. She was both a pureblood and a witch, why would she apologize?

"I. . . Don't worry about it, at least you got it right.”

Elisa was just about to focus on her food again when she heard the boy speak about how she matched the picture of a pureblood witch, this was a statement that was enough to make her chuckle, the boy was the first person to say that, mostly the perfect picture of a pureblood witch would be someone stern with perfect posture, great manners and a neat look, someone like her mother but Elisa currently looked nothing like that, in fact she looked like a mess currently, if any of her family member saw her at this moment, they would surely give her a whole lecture on how not so pureblood she looks.

"I do? This is the first time someone really said that" she said as she quickly laughed it off, she then heard the boy make a joke about how his appearance didn't match a goblin's typical look, to which Elisa simply smiled, as she let the boy continue speaking, he was just about to speak of his grandfather but instantly stopped, "To be honest, I surely may not" she replied in a low tone since every single time she had gone to Gringotts, she had always wondered why all the goblins looked the same to her, after a while Elisa got back to her food and continued to eat,

It seemed like her apology was quite shocking for the boy as he was speechless for a moment before finally telling her to not worry about it, Elisa was finally relieved to hear that the boy didn't mind her previous assumption as she finally realized that she still hadn't introduced herself to the boy, Elisa finally muttered "By the way, Im Elisa, Elisa Shakestra, pleased to meet you"

Ernest didn't really know why she didn't see what he saw. How did she not look like a perfect pureblooded girl? She was perfectly put together versus some of the other girls; the subconscious knowledge of how to dress in wizarding attire probably drilled into her since birth. Her hair was a perfect blond, no strips of brown developing like with the muggleborns or half-bloods as they grew.

No, she was perfectly put together in a way that screams ‘I am the daughter of a long line of quiet but respected perfection. Perfection that took time and tears to be.’

He figured she probably didn't get that alot just because her eyes shined with hardly contained mischief; not active silliness but a quiet one like she was just waiting for the opportunity to show her skills.

He was honestly in awe.

A Shakastra? How fascinating. "Did they have the balls every year like the other purebloods? I tried to keep up with all of them; but I'm bad with names." He said. Truthfully, it was hard to keep up with them at all, when one pureblood comes to collect money from their vault for a ball, it's not long before more come, and they all looked similar to Ernest.

I'm Ernest Baird, myself. It is nice to meet you.” He said, trying out the new name he gave himself again, still getting used to the ring of it, his voice getting deeper as it almost slipped into Goblin tongue. “I'm a first year, you?”
