General The Slytherin Table 2018-2019

If Illowy had been honest, she hardly expected to have been sorted into Slytherin. She'd been positive she would have been a Ravenclaw, just like her mother had been, but perhaps the Sorting Hat knew something about herself that she didn't. Hopefully her mother wouldn't be too disappointed about the failure to carry on the Ravenclaw legacy given she'd spent her life hearing about her mother's school days stories, and the close friends she'd made within her house.

The brunette sat quietly with the other first years, filling her plate modestly and enjoying her meal, eyes flickering around and listening to the bits of chatter around her as one by one, the rest of the first years took their places.

Her head turned, however, as a blonde sat down not far from her, speaking in a bright and bubbly voice, eagerly guzzling down her juice and food as though she'd never known a meal before; that was simply her opinion though. Recalling her mother's plea to at least try to make friends this year, the girl decided to introduce herself to her fellow Slytherin, "I'm Illowy." she forced a small smile, hoping with practice the ordeal of being friendly towards people her own age might become easier.

I was told I was dangerous. When I asked why, they said, "Because you don't need anyone." That's when I smiled.

Brielle wasn't shocked at all with how her sorting had gone. This was what she had expected afterall, because she knew she was the cunning, rebellious type, that fit right in with the rest of her house. Of course, she assumed her mother would be quite upset, coming from a long line of Gryffindors, but she just figured she'd have to make do.

As she made her way to the table, she noticed a timid Brunette by herself. It was quite obvious that she was trying to socialize with the other students, because she was staring contently at them, making small movements, indicating she wanted to be noticed.

Brielle smiled as she approached the girl, taking a seat beside her as she neatly placed food onto her plate. Striking conversation was easy for her, and she tried her best to seem welcoming. Brielle figured she was a 1st year as well, noticing from how nervous she was. "Hello? I'm Brielle... We're in the same house?" Brielle's tone came off warm and enlightening, her eyes glistened as she made eye contact with the her. Brielle had been very eager to make friends this year, and hoped that she would make the best of herself. Waiting patiently for the girl to respond, she pushed her hair back and smiled.

The Sorting Hat's parting words resounded inside of Astrea deeply as she tuckered into her plate of food primly, a tablecloth napkin laid neatly upon her lap. The plate in front of her was modest enough, though filled sufficiently with plenty of greens. A golden goblet of conjured hot chocolate was near her plate, the steam rising in white tendrils. From the corner of her eye, she could see Isuel watching her with a slightly wistful look of sadness.

Finishing her bite and wiping at her mouth with the napkin, she turned her head to look at him quizzically. The second-year merely wiped his melancholy look off his face and flashed a smile, to Astrea's unconvinced blank stare.

"You should talk to some of your yearmates, they're going to be in your classes and everything, after all." Isuel suggested suddenly, sweeping out a slight hand to direct toward his own friend group. Someone from the Ravenclaw table reached up a hand and waved at Isuel, to which he waved right back with a bright smile.

Astrea entertained the idea contemplatively as she lifted up her goblet to her lips, the taste of chocolate flooding her tastebuds and filling them with a pleasantly bittersweet linger.

"That- would be a good idea, presumably." She admitted after setting down her drink, to which Isuel immediately swiped it up and took a sip.

"Erg- this is slightly bitter. Don't tell me you prefer this over actual hot chocolate." Isuel insisted with a mock scowl, giving it back to Astrea. She held at the stem of the golden cup, swirling it idly as she looked back at her cousin with a confused look. It wasn't as rich as at the manor, but still very good indeed.

"But this is actual hot chocolate. I often watch Cadony magick up a blend like this out of real chocolate and milk." She sipped at the warm drink once more as she stared over the rim with a confused look, unknowing of what other kinds of type her cousin claimed. Bittersweet, with a very deep taste that hung over her mouth nicely. Perhaps the abundance of sweets at Hogwarts has tainted his palate with milder blends.

Isuel shook his head in mild exasperation as Astrea returned to swirling her drink slightly once more like the little aristocratic socialite she was raised to be, leaning over the table past her and addressing another random 1st year Slytherin. "Hey there, can you please educate my cousin on interaction? Bit stiff-" Isuel glanced over at Astrea as he leaned over, a fake grimace upon his face as Astrea's eyes narrowed.

She wasn't good at interaction, yes, but- well, she didn't really need him singling someone out and then calling her out on it.

"SLYTHERIN!"

Camille blinked in brief surprise before the Hat was lifted off of her head. She'd been expecting Hufflepuff. Maybe Ravenclaw? Not Slytherin. She didn't mind though, but a sudden thought nagged the back of her mind. Did it put me in Slytherin just because I'm a pure blood? Did I ever really have a choice? or was my fate decided before the Hat even touched my head? Regardless of her worry, Slytherin was her new House. There was nothing she could do about it now. She'd heard her sister say nice things about the Head of House.

Camille approached the table and sat down next to a blonde girl who'd announced her name to be Brynlee. She seemed to be happy about being a Slytherin. Camille took a deep breath and sat down beside her. "Hello," she said cordially. "I'm Camille, but you can call me Camie, if you like," she added quickly, almost like an afterthought.

She also noticed the girl go for the pumpkin juice. "Oh, that's one of my favorites too. My sisters hate it, but I love it so much." It was an attempt, and Camille knew it was a poor one, but she had to hope that it was good enough. If she was going to be here for seven yeas, she'd need to make some friends, and Brynlee seemed like the perfect type.

When someone sat next to her, Brynlee's heart began to beat faster. This was it! This was her chance to make a new life-long friend. Bryn looked over and beamed at the new girl. She didn't seem that excited about the Sorting Hat's decision, but Bryn was determined to change the girls mind. The brunette introduced herself as Camille, and Brynlee somehow managed to smile wider.

"Camille! What a pretty name!" She held out her hand, "Hi Camie, I'm Brynlee Avalon Sage, but you can call me Bryn, Lee, Ava, Avalon, or Sage, whichever one you'd like. Unless you have another nickname for me that you'd like to call me, that'd be okay to. I'll respond to it as long as I know it's me."

Brynlee watched as the girl reached for the pumpkin juice. "Oh, my brother and sister love this stuff, but my parents hated it so we couldn't have it that often. My brother and sister, Damien and Lilith, are Aurors, you see, and they were both Slytherin. I want to be an Auror, too, so I am so excited that the Sorting Hat put me in Slytherin! What about you? You don't look to happy to be in the snake house. Well, let me help you. Slytherins are known for successful people. True, most of those were successful in the Dark Arts, but not all of them! If you want to achieve something in life, Slytherin is the best house to be in. What do you want to be when you grow up?"

Brynlee blushed when she realized she was rambling, and chuckled softly, with a hint of nervousness. She didn't want to scare off potential friends, and rambling was one sure way to do that. "Sorry, I'm just really excited to be here. Day and Lily graduated when I was seven, and I've heard so many wonderful stories..."

Camille blinked in surprise at how much Brynlee talked. She didn't see how someone could have so much to say! But, she patiently listened to her words. Camille loved a good story, no matter what it was about or who is was told from.

When Brynlee apologized, Camille quickly spoke up. "Oh, no, I don't mind. I like listening to people talk," she assured the other girl. "No one in my family likes pumpkin juice at all, my parents or my two sisters, so I can only really have it when I go to my friends' houses. My parents were a Slytherin and a Hufflepuff. My older sister, Sierra, was a Ravenclaw. I have a younger sister too. Her name is Emma. It's not that I'm not happy with Slytherin, it's just I'm a bit surprised. I expected to be a Hufflepuff. My parents always told me that I am good at helping people, which is why I want to work at St. Mungos in the future. What I really want to do is come back to Hogwarts and be the school nurse."

A faint look of hope glossed over Camille's eyes, but she blinked quickly to shoo it away. "But that's a long way off... Besides, we have a lot of learning to do. And don't worry, Sierra has told me plenty of stories too."

Brynlee smiled when Camille told her she liked to listen to people, “Good, because I have a lot to say.” She laughed and continued to listen to Camille. She went into more detail on how her parents were Slytherin and Hufflepuff, and her sister was Ravenclaw. Camie mentioned she had a little sister, then went into how she wasn’t upset about Slytherin and explained her surprise.

“Oh, I wish I had a little sister or brother... I mean, I love Day and Lily with all my heart, but it gets lonely at Home with just Mum and Dad.” She shrugged, then chuckled, “So, no Gryffindors in the family? That’s alright, both my Mum and Dad were Ravenclaws, so there’s none in my family either.”

Brynlee smiled once again when Camie said she wanted to me a mediwizard. “Working at St. Mungo’s was second on my list! Being able to help people after they get hit by a spell, or drinking a wrong potion... It just sounds so amazing. But I want to be an Auror, so I can prevent that from ever happening!”

She thought for a moment, then gasped. “Hey! You’re going to be a mediwizard, I’m going to be an Auror, maybe one day you’ll treat me after one of my missions! How cool would that be?!” She giggled and sighed, “I can’t wait for my life to get started...”

Camille laughed at Brynlee's remark about their futures colliding. "That would be funny, yes. I want to go to St. Mungo's for the experience, though. I really want to come back and be the nurse here. I think it would be interesting, you know? Coming back to work here and working with the professors who taught you..." She trailed off to giggle. "But then I feel like you'd be able to have a less professional friendship with them."

She paused for a second to take a small bite of food. Flavor exploded across her tongue, and she felt a pang of homesickness in her heart as she realized how much Emma would love everything here. Get yourself together, she thought quickly. She'll be here with you next year. Even so, she felt a sudden longing for her family. And this was only her first day here during the Beginning of Year Banquet.

Camille blinked quickly and shook off the nostalgic feeling. "So... what do you think your favorite class will be? I'm looking forwards to Potions, Charms, and Herbology. But mostly Transfiguration. It's amazing to be able to take one thing and turn it into another, don't you think so?"

Andrew Vance enters thread

Andrew sat down at the Slytherin table, looking much better and revitalized than he had been, about half an hour ago… During the Sorting Ceremony, he had held himself together while onstage with the Hat, but since taking his place at the table, he had reverted back to his miserable state of coping with his stuffy nose and wet cough. In search of a cure, he had gotten up from the table and disappeared from the Hall, only to return about half an hour later, all signs of his cold vanished and himself feeling back to normal... Well, except for the unusual thing going on with his face. For those who weren’t familiar with the effects of Pepperup Potion, that was exactly what Andrew was experiencing. His face was flushed red with heat and little spurts of steam were piping out of his ears. It was an amusing sight no less, but Andrew didn’t care how silly he looked. He was just relieved to be back to normal health, so he could finally enjoy the celebration and give into his ravenous appetite.

Helped himself for three servings’ worth of chocolate cake, Andrew began shoving forkfuls into his mouth, resuming conversation with a few other Slytherins. Since abandoning his former seat at the table, he had found a new spot at the bench to squeeze himself into. “‘Scuse me, mind if I sit here?” He had asked a girl [Blaire Newton] permission for him to sit beside her. Setting down his plate with a huge piling of chocolate cake, Andrew remembered his manners for him to swallow his bite (though there were bound to be bits of cake sticking between his teeth and a smudge of chocolate on his lips) before initiating friendly greetings with the girl.

Hi, I’m Andrew! You can call me Andy, if you like.” On a sugar rush, he tended to act livelier and more sociable than he normally was. Raising his voice in a partial shout so it wouldn’t be drowned out by the noise of the crowded Hall, he said jollily, “Nice to meet you! I’m a Muggle-born, so I have no idea how any of this ‘magic’ stuff works! I’m probably going to die by the end of the week!” He exaggerated humorously, but he might as well be straightforward about who he was, and the limits of his wizarding knowledge. Overhearing other mingled conversations at the table, Andrew heard most of the students talking about wizarding school stuff that seemed to be important conversation starters to those who grew up around wizarding families. All of this was foreign to the Muggle-born Andrew, who barely knew anything about Hogwarts and the wizarding world, except for what little he had skimmed over his textbooks, plus anything he might have gleaned during his past trips to Diagon Alley.

Blaire was still shaking from the anxiety she had felt during the Sorting Ceremony. Luckily, the hat had listened to her inner pleading. She was now one of the newest members of the Slytherin house. Her family would be pleased…. Well as pleased as they could be with their youngest daughter. Blaire made her way over to the table, trying to spy an empty seat in the sea of green. Her robes rustled as she made her way to the back of the hall. Spying an empty place, she took her seat.

There was so much chatter going on around her. Blaire couldn’t hear her own thoughts over the sounds of a thousand voices. It was nice, since her brain had been on over drive most of the day. Her nanny had woken her early this morning, before the sun had even risen. Blaire had tried to eat her breakfast, but her nerves had been so bad that the thought of food made her instantly sick. Her mother did not wake before she left, so Blaire didn’t say goodbye. Honestly, she expected nothing less. Her father had either left for the office already or had never even come home.

The rest of the morning had been a blur, Blaire barley remembers the train ride, nor the short trip in the boat up to the castle. And now, as she sat here amidst her fellow classmates, she realized she hadn’t eaten more than a bit of toast all day. No wonder she felt a little shaky. Bringing her attention finally to the fest spread out before her, she settled on a few items. As she ate, she looked about at the many faces around her. Of course, she didn’t recognize anyone. It looked like most of the Slytherins nearest her were deep in conversation amongst themselves.

The food tasted wonderful, almost even better than what she was served at home. Her stomach was finally full, and she happily looked on as the sorting ceremony was coming to an end. Out the corner of her eye she noticed a boy come near her. Blaire raised an eyebrow as she cocked her head to the side. She gave a slight nod to his question, scooting to the side to leave some space between them. Her eyes made a brief journey from his plate full of cake, up to his chocolate smeared face.

Blaire was taken aback by the friendliness of his introduction. She wasn’t used to such interactions, and Slytherins weren’t known for their overly bubbly personalities. This was the last thing Blaire expected to encounter. She gave a slight smirk at the mention of the possibility of his untimely death. Realizing he was done talking and finally waiting for her response, Blaire turned ever so slightly to face him. “Well Andy, my name is Blaire. Just Blaire. Nice to meet you.” Blaire paused long enough to take a sip of the liquid in the goblet in front of her. It was pleasantly refreshing. ”My father’s parents are muggles as well. He did decently well while attending Hogwarts, if it makes you feel any better.” No one ever accused Blaire of being good at conversing with people.
