It's Alive...!
Emily came to the conclusion, admittedly rather early, that Herbology was the most normal sounding lesson she had on her timetable. The study of plants and fungi... Seemed simple enough. On paper that is.
It wasn't much shock to Emily that upon arriving at the greenhouse, she realised she was sorely mistaken, though not entirely. The greenhouse smelt of life, with the pungent incense of fresh leaves and soil. Rows of pots sat along a wide table in the middle of the space for the other students to gather around. She took a spot near the front where the professor would stand. With her lack of magical talent proving to be a handicap to a degree, she needed to learn all she could up front and personal, especially with practical work.
However, the greenhouse wasn't alive in just the sense that it smelt wonderfully fresh. It was also alive quite literally. In fact, Emily almost fainted when she saw the Mandrake roots squirm and writhe with such energy when the professor demonstrated their first task. She struggled to think what would happen if magic plants like them were mistreated; if that was even possible.
Swallowing her nerves, she grabbed her gloves and earmuffs and got to work. She yanked the Mandrake root upwards and cringed at the sound it made. She could definitely see how they could kill a man if they hadn't worn the earmuffs. She re-potted the root before sighing in sheer relief. But she'd be lying if she said she wasn't finding the whole experience intriguing nonetheless. In fact, herbology was slowly growing on her...
