Mistakes Can Be Good
Alex smiled at Ruka. He had one friend that loved dance, Min-seo, and hopefully he would have another one that did as well. Alex smiled at the boy as he said that ballet was interesting. ”It’s fun to do for sure, but it seems like a lot of people do it at this school. Yours seems way more interesting. And thank you,” he said with a small blush from pride. People said they like when he danced, but they never said they admired it. That was really nice of him. Alex shook his head. ”Even without torches I know it’ll still be amazing,” he said. Alex brushes some of his hair out of his face so he could see the dance better. As soon as Ruka started to dance, Alex smiled big. It was amazing. Again, he had never been to a circus, so this was a small part of it right here in Hogwarts. It was captivating. Even without music, it worked together perfectly. He could imagine the torches there, and it seemed quite dangerous. How did he do that? Well, he probably was doing it for a while. When he finished, Alex clapped with a big smile on his face. ”That was amazing! How do you do it with fire? That seems really dangerous.”

OOC: Sorry for the late reply, I was moving, and it took longer than I thought it would!
Ruka grinned brightly at Alex, his body still tingling with adrenaline from the dance. This was where he felt the most confident, the most like he really knew what he was doing, and it showed in his face and his posture.
He chuckled a little bit when Alex pointed out that it looked dangerous to do this with fire. "I definitely burned myself a few times already," he explained, moving a bit closer to show Alex a few fine scars across his arms. He had a feeling that those scars should be much worse had it not been for the magic flowing through his veins. More than once had his dad been amazed with how well Ruka resisted the burning of the flames when they did happen to bite at his skin. "But with a lot of practice, you learn to move with the fire, not against it. It's like a partner dance, you know? When you first start out you step on each other's feet a lot, but then, after a while, it all becomes more fluid and natural." He grinned and shrugged his shoulders a little, slowly starting to feel a bit sheepish again. He leaned his back against the wall, standing next to Alex and smiling shyly at him. "I can definitely teach you," he said, reaching over to gently take one of the other boy's hands, handing him the branch he'd been using for his choreography. Stepping a bit closer, he clasped Alex' hand in his own and moved his fingers to show exactly how to twirl the branch in easy circles without getting too close to the edges or dropping it completely. "Once you learn how to control the torches between your fingers that's the hardest part done!"

That’s totally fine! Don’t worry! I hope you’ve settled in![]()
Alex’s eyes widened as Ruka told him he burned himself. He looked at the scars, bringing one finger to trace them while not touching them. ”My goodness, that seems really painful. I’m sorry,” he said. The only injuries he ever got from dancing was a fractured ankle and collapsing after he danced. Rolled ankles were also really common. His injuries seemed better then getting burnt. It seemed so painful. Alex nodded as Ruka explained how fire worked into the dance. ”That makes sense.” he said. He likes the way he explained things. The people he’s met so far would explain things in their point of view and Alex wouldn’t understand. But when Ruka talked, it just made sense. Alex smiled as Ruka said he would teach him. He felt Ruka take his small hand and he looked at him, surprised. He shook the surprise off his face and stood up next to him and took the stick torch thing. He put it between his fingers. He bit his bottom lip as he started to turn the twig slowly, trying not to drop it. It was harder than it looked. He did about three twirls slowly and smiled at Ruka like he accomplished something big. ”At least I’m making progress,” he said, shrugging.

Ruka watched intently as Alex lifted a finger to trace the scars on his arm. They were even paler than his already pale skin, only a shimmer of a memory of years of painful practice with flaming torches.
"It's fine," he said with a little smile, shrugging his shoulders lightly. "It's worth it in the end. It's the only thing that really makes me able to relax and... Stop thinking." For a moment he let his mind wander to his dad and the last letter he got from him, but he shook that thought from his mind in favour of teaching Alex the first basics of doing any sort of fire dance.
He grinned as Alex managed a few swirls of the branch around his fingers, clapping excitedly. Even a small progress like that meant a lot for something as delicate as dancing with fire. "It took me weeks to learn how to twirl a torch without dropping it or setting my hair on fire," he told Alex, laughing at some memories of when he first learned to do these things.
He stepped towards Alex so he was in front of him, reaching out a hand to lay it flat against the other boy's palm, the branch thickly between their hands. He moved his own hand a bit, turning it to the side while making sure the make shift torch remained in position between their palms. He took a step forward, urging Alex to follow his lead. "When you do a partner dance with fire," he started, taking a step to the side and back to face Alex again. "You can set both ends of the torch on fire. You do te whole dance with the torch between each other's hands and then, before the fire reaches the middle..." He moved his hand away and caught the branch out of mid-air before it could reach the ground, taking a quick bow as he did so. "You let go. The fire goes out, and the dance ends." He smiled, looking away for a moment as he blushed furiously. He wasn't sure if Alex was uncomfortable with how forward he was, but he hoped the other boy enjoyed his company.
Ruka certainly enjoyed his.
"It's a but easier than doing a dance by yourself, but it's very delicate. You need to be very in tune with your partner or else you could drop the torch and, well, set everything on fire."

Alex looked up at Ruka and smiled at his words. ”Yeah, I know what you mean. Singing and dancing seems to clear my head. That’s why I came here, to de-stress, if you know what I mean,” he said quietly. He’d come here because of school work. He was quite stressed because of it, but this helped a bit so he could calm down. Alex smiled. ”Yeah, I don’t think fire is a good idea for me to try just yet,” he said, his eyes turning into crescents as he laughed a bit. If he would’ve tried it with fire, let’s just say it wouldn’t turn out so good. He looked at Ruka’s hand on top on his own and looked back at him, confused with a pink tinted face. He listened to Ruka explain the partner dance, and he smiled a bit as he followed Ruka’s footsteps in the dance. Ruka seemed to be so into dancing with fire. Alex really loved that he was passionate about what he did. He felt Ruka let go of his hand and felt the cold air rush over it. He looked at it for a second before looking back at Ruka with a smile and nodded. ”It seems quite difficult, but it would be fun to learn.”

Ruka nodded almost furiously at Alex' words, knowing exactly what he was talking about.
Maybe dance was physically straining, but mentally he never really felt better than when he was caught up in a routine. "Yeah that's the right word!" he said with a bright smile, feeling his face flush. It was. Bit uncharacteristic how much he seemed to be blushing around Alex but he put it down to being around someone who was sweet and shared his passion and made him feel warm and understood.
He smiled all the while he led Alex through a few steps of a partner routine, eventually taking a step back so the other boy wouldn't feel too crowded. "Nect time," he said, a hopeful tone in his voice. "I'll bring you a couple of smooth branches to practice with. We'll have you doing a routine in no time!" He chuckled, eyes sparkling with excitement over getting to share his passion with someone else. Not wanting to completely take over their chance meeting, however, he put himself into what he knew to be the third position in ballet, grinning brightly at Alex. "But you did also promise to teach me some classical dance. Is there something easy you could teach me already?" He felt really eager to learn, even more so than in all the classes that taught him magic spells; Dance would always be his own personal form of magic, and doing it with someone else made him feel connected and like he belonged, like he had someone to share the weight on his shoulders with, and just exist in a peaceful bubble for a while.
That was exactly why he couldn't wait to learn as much about any form of it as he possibly could.

Alex nodded and smiled as he kept dancing with Ruka. The dancing came naturally to him, but doing that while with the twig was a little more difficult. It seemed kind of bulky in a way, and spinning it was difficult. He wanted to learn though, and he really enjoyed the other boy’s company. Ruka stepped back and Alex smiled. ”I would love that. Come find me when you have time to do that,” he said tilting his head to the side with a smile. Hopefully there was a next time. It would be amazing to do this with him again. Alex loved learning new things, especially if it had to do with dance. Alex nodded. ”Of course, I didn’t forget. And easy? I mean, a dance with combined basics would do.” he said. He walked over to the music player and turned on one of the songs. I Love You (Music) Alex nodded, satisfied with the music choice. It was a very good song, and it wasn’t too complicated. He could also play the song on the piano. ”Alright, so we should start with the basics. Before we get to jumps and such, you should start out with stretching, or else you’ll pull a muscle. I think that you’re warmed up enough I presume, you were dancing before. Do you have any practice at ballet?” he asked. He wanted to see where Ruka was at so he could teach him the right moves for what he was comfortable with.

Ruka beamed when Alex told him to come and find him for some more dance practice. He nodded almost frantically, a bright smile on his face. "I'll owl you," he promised before concentrating back on Alex' type of dance.
Ruka had a lot of respect for anybody doing ballet. He didn't find it boring or cliche at all; It was hard work and it was beautiful to watch. He would love to learn some of it, especially with Alex as his teacher.
He nodded lightly when Alex pointed out that he should be warmed up enough already, rolling his head slowly from left to right to make sure he couldn't feel any tense muscles.
He could feel himself easing up a little bit at the sound of the music Alex had put on: It was hauntingly beautiful, the piano fast but not urgent, and he could feel his body already swaying with the melody. "I just know some positions," he explained, putting his feet together in various ballet starting positions to show Alex the extend of his knowledge. "I know how to do plies and demi plies. But that's about it." He shrugged, smiling a bit. His father had often said that he thought Ruka would be great at ballet, because he was small and bendy, disciplined and passionate. Now was apparently the time to see just how right or wrong he had been.

Alex smiled softly. ”Alright! I’ll look for it,” he said. He went down in a quick splits and stretched a bit. He nodded as Ruka explained what he knew. He got up and walked closer to Ruka. ”Well, that’s good you know the basics at least so I don’t need to teach you that,” he said with a smile. He tapped his chin in thought as he scanned through the options in his head. Since Ruka knew the basic positions and plies, it wouldn’t hurt to move on to leaps and such. Maybe torjetes, and pirouettes would be good. He nodded to himself. That seemed sufficient. He smiled at Ruka again. ”Alright. First things first, leaps. Now it may seem easy, but you have to get high up in the air and into a wide enough splits to do it right. You also have to land right. Don’t land heel first, you must always land on the ball of your foot. The take off if usually done in a running start. Always stay on your toes basically. Plus the arms” he walked to the corner, did his take off into a grand jete. (Sorry I couldn’t figure out how to do just a picture on my phone)he landed and walked back over to Ruka. ”Try doing that, it’s okay if you don’t get it on your first try, I certainly didn’t,” he said with a smile.

Ruka was excited about the prospect of learning how to do leaps. He always thought the most amazing thing about seeing people doing ballet was the way the lifted off the ground, light as a feather, their whole body poised gracefully like a bird.
He couldn't wait to be able to do that himself.
He listened intently as Alex talked, nodding here and there in comprehension. It didn't sound too complicated, but he was sure the execution would be a completely different story.
He did his best to mimic Alex' movements, up on his toes, arms out for balance. It looked so beautiful and light when the other boy did it, legs parted in a split in mid-air. Ruka wondered, for a moment, if doing leaps would feel as good as flying on a broomstick, or maybe even better.
He followed Alex' advice to do his take off at a running start, his calves twitching a bit at the unfamiliar movement.
His take off was certainly clumsy, the split not wide enough as he couldn't really get far enough off the ground, but the landing was what made him cringe the most; Instead of landing on the ball of his foot, he landed on the side of it, and it had made his leg slip away under him, his ankle stinging painfully as it hit the ground. "Ouch," he said meekly, stretching out his leg and reaching over to massage his ankle gently. Well, Alex had told him not to worry if he didn't get it on his first try, so maybe it hadn't been that bad. "I guess I'll have to work on that quite a lot," he pointed out with a chuckle, gesturing to his ankle. "It looks so easy and... and beautiful when you do it!" He smiled and slowly got up again, carefully testing his ankle by putting some weight on his right foot. It stung a bit, but he had certainly had worse sprained ankles before. "How do you get this high up? I feel like I get myself off the ground for barely half a metre..."
