Too Cold PV Closed

So the other girl was adopted, had the same surname as Koko, and her birthday was on the same day. There was no hiding the fact: these two were probably sisters. And not just normal sisters--twins.

At first Koko didn't know what to feel. Maybe shock, of course, and a bit of excitement, though happiness could be in there as well. She felt a smile cross her face, and she started laughing at the irony. "So--" she choked out between giggles, "--is mine. April twenty-fourth, two thousand seven."

She could hardly believe it. She had a sister! There could be a family tree in the library, and while she didn't know where they would be it didn't help to look. Koko lifted her gaze to look straight into Sapphire's Caribbean blue eyes--no, she wasn't any shorter than the other girl; she just had been looking down. "Perhaps we should meet at the library later this week to check it out," Koko suggested quietly. Many people took her quietness for fear or shyness, but it wasn't that. It was just that she didn't wish to be seen. Koko was fine being hidden in the background.

She stepped on a stone, watching the snow fall. It was mesmerizing, how something so small could fall from such a height and not break immediately. She shot yet another smile at Sapphire, it was strange how one person made Koko feel so relatable--no pun intended.

If she had never realised something so small, she could never had so many possibilities opened to her.

Just a tiny, yet somehow huge, difference in Koko's posture could be noted. Instead of looking as if she wished to curl in on herself, she stood a bit taller. Did she ever feel as if she didn't fit in. Always. But who did?

No one, that was who. Nobody would ever "fit in", because there was no true normal. The Slytherin sat down, crossing her legs on the frozen ground.

"It's all so surprising..."

The girl's high voice would chorus like bells around the deserted woodland. Animals would sometimes come to Koko, but not today. She would refuse to let them if they came near. It was so hard to believe that the cool-toned Sapphire could be related to the girl of gold. So different on the outside, yet what Koko had gathered about their personalities had seemed similar. She couldn't fathom how this was possible... Except, really, they weren't all that different. If she were to look a little closer, dig a little deeper, she would realise that they both had the same narrow shoulders, the same button noses, and the same intuitive eyes. No matter the tone, they did look alike.

"Writing it down is a wonderful idea," Koko added softly. She hoped not to scare the animals, as they were never anything but kind to her. Animals could be one's best friend; they could coddle you, yet they never hurt you as humans did. Humans hurt things.

Koko was beginning to see the world as a terrible place to be, but times like this made her reconsider. Seated near one who might be her sister, watching tiny animals skitter around, she couldn't help but feel all warm inside. All of the warmth came from a few feelings inside of the child--a soft pride, a larger courage, and then an overpowering surge of protectiveness. She wouldn't let anyone take away her only remaining family, not now, and not ever. She didn't realise it, but the child had forgotten Sapphire's question about not fitting in--because she had answered it with her body language. As Sapphire asked the question, there had been a noticeable droop in the way Koko held her head--answering no. She did not fit in.
