Jacobs stared at her blankly, as she continued to grow visibly more and more frustrated at his words. Despite being very aware of her sarcasm, he responded bluntly. "Yes, my confusion. "

"I will explain this bluntly. You don't understand my confusion, I don't understand your fathers choices. This is very easily explainable. Our families are from different walks of life." He explained, his tone condescending. "My parents likely would think your mother has dirty blood, yes. Me?" He shrugged. "I don't know about dirty, I think I just feel bad for muggles, if anything. I couldn't imagine a life without magic, seems almost dull." His final sentiments were anything but malicious, his tone very much reflecting his words. He truly did sound almost sorry for Muggles, a very basic knowledge and understanding of muggle technologies, meaning that he was mostly ignorant to the lives muggles could lead.

"Likely would of still spoken to you, you aren't your father. I don't understand his choices, none of that really reflects on you. Why not bring you up around magic? Seems odd to wait for you to effectively discover it yourself, and then make you learn everything you could have grown up learning ,in what? Two-three years?" He shrugged, his tone still calm, and face mostly impassive. However, her increasing anger directed towards him, caused a small grin to crack on his face. It was, potentially, one of the first times ever he'd truly been scolded in any manner, and it was quite amusing to come from someone his own age.

As she began to storm off, he leant back against the wall, beginning to reach for his own bag to retrieve his book, when he noticed that she had left hers. "WAIT. " He rose his voice, loud enough so that she could still here him. He lifted her bag, dangling it in the air. "You forgot something. "

Viva stiffened. She was still angry, despite knowing she was probably being a little overemotional about this whole thing. "You feel bad for muggles?" She asked somewhat incredulously. "Almost dull? What is wrong with you?" Viva bristled as he dared to grin, to grin! How could he? As she stalked away, she sniffed. Her head was held high, even though she was barely holding back tears for some reason. Really, what is wrong with me today?

As she heard Jacob's call she froze. Well, this is embarrassing. Viva stood there for a moment, facing away from the boy still. I can't leave my bag, she thought as she reluctantly turned around, blinking so not to show the tiny tears that where starting to form. Viva strode forward, driven somewhat by anger, somewhat by humiliation, and somewhat by the random need to prove herself to this boy.

Viva's feet seemed to be moving of their own accord, carrying her closer and closer to Jacob. She stepped up to him and snatched her bag out of his raised hand. "Thank you," she said frostily. Viva stood there, staring at him for a few moments. And then, she snapped.

Her next words were spoken in an almost growl. "And of course my father's actions reflects on me, you dingbat!" She jabbed her finger at Jacob, poking his chest in one sharp movement. "You're right, I'm not my father, but I am my father's daughter! And my mother's daughter as well! I'm proud to be her daughter, and I don't care what you or your dumb family thinks of me and my mum and dad. My mum is a wonderful, amazing, kind person, unlike you rich snobs who think you're better than anyone else!" She poked him again, advancing towards him. A tear traced it's way down her cheek, but she was too worked up to do anything. "I hope you get everything you want: you go live your life, and marry some rich horrid rude pureblood girl, and never talk to a filthy blooded person like me again, and have a miserable rest of your miserable life!" Breathing heavily, Viva fell silent, staring into Jacob's eyes as she realized she was standing very close to him, right in front of his face in fact.

"I think you're just misunderstanding me. " Truthfully, Jacob had already roughly decided that they were both likely, at the very least, slightly misunderstanding each other somewhat. Choosing to hear parts of the arguments, not the others, or hearing things that suit their side of the argument. At least, that was Jacobs interpretation of the ongoing argument. "Just saying that I'd find a life without magic to be dull. Imagine not being able to fly around on a broom, or like.." He patted his DADA book, that was still sat besides him. "Do you not just think this is so cool? Imagine not being able to read this, and learn what it's discussing."

"You're welcome." He said, surprisingly pleasantly in thanks to her more confrontational thanks for returning her bag.

"Why are my family dumb?" He questioned to her sudden tirade, glancing down momentarily at his chest, where he had just been poked. The grin on his face vanished, replaced once more by a more impassive look, not exactly amused by her insults, but not allowing himself to grant her a reaction. That would, after all, be incredibly immature of him.

"Should wipe your cheek." He began, pointing at the rough area on his own cheek where her tears had dripped to. He straightened his posture slightly with a sigh, staring straight back at her. "Truth be told, I don't have much of a rebuttal to what you're saying. I don't really care to insult you that much, I've never actually said anything particularly bad, from memory, about you or your father, I've just wanted to understand his decisions. That isn't unreasonable."

"Furthermore. " He added. "Being the incredibly mature man that I am, I've decided to be the adult here, and suggest an alternative idea. You probably know just as little about my household, and how I grew up, as you do abut mine. I never insinuated you having dirty blood, you're putting words into my mouth."

Getting very emotional at @Jacob Thorley

Viva blinked. "Please stop talking about that." She said through clenched teeth, jutting her chin out defiantly as she stared Jacob down. "Of course I think the wizarding world is 'so cool,' if those are the words you choose to describe it. My mother doesn't, because she has a perfectly happy life that she loves in the muggle world. She doesn't know what she's missing, and she doesn't need to! She will be just as happy without magic as she would be with." She paused, trying to force herself to take a breath.

Flushing at his words after her rant, she straightened her back. "Your family is predjudiced. Sure, you say you don't despise me just because I'm a half muggle-born, but I bet your father would. I bet your mother would. I bet your whole pure-blood family would." Viva's eyes flashed again. She was extremely worked up right now.

Viva stiffened, humiliated, as he pointed out the tears. She glared at him so hard, secretly willing herself not to utterly fall to pieces and burst into sobs. Slowly, ever so slowly, she raised her hand and brushed it across her cheek, staring at Jacob still the whole time. She knew she was being extremely emotional and slightly harsh about this when she didn't need to be, but this boy's words were cutting her deeper then she let on, even if he wasn't intentionally insulting her.

"A man?! An adult?!" Viva exclaimed. "You're what, barely eleven?" She was barely holding back her tears. "And you're right, I don't know about your life. You've probably been coddled and given whatever you want from your rich parents since you could before you could crawl. I bet you were spoiled and pampered. You have no idea, no idea, what it's like to live with a muggle for a parent. You're rich. I'm not. You've probably never been insulted the way I have, never!" The tears had finally been set free and flowed down her cheeks like two twin rivers. Viva's voice was getting higher and higher.

"I've been told that I am inferior, dirty-blooded, an embarrassment to society. People have pushed me around, shoved me, hit me, all because my mother is a muggle. My father is called a blood traitor and was fired from his job after he married my mum just because his boss was a blood purist. My life has been hard, and it's been nothing like yours." Viva sank down, completely drained of energy and spirit. Her voice died out as the tears continued to run down her cheeks, and she lifted her glistening eyes to look at Jacob.

"Those are the words. " He nodded in agreement, as she affirmed his statements about magic being cool. At least on that, they seemed to agree. He began to raise his book, as if about to ask if she'd read it, before biting back his comment. Probably not the time to discuss DADA, that might make her head explode if he tried to turn the conversation in such a sharply different direction.

"I don't think there is a half muggle born.. You're either a muggle born or you aren't, you're just a half-blood. " He explained, before pausing. What would his parents think of her? "Can't speak for my mum, she's more.. Traditional. My dad would probably just ask the same questions as I am, though. I think.. Maybe I'll ask him."

"Yes, eleven. " He responded, once more, pride more than evident in his voice. Why was she questioning his age, as if eleven was not a manly age? He was incredibly old, now that he eleven. Incredibly mature too, he thought.

However, as her emotions rose, for the first time, Jacob began to frown, his own emotions beginning to rise to the surface. Some of her comments did strike true with him, it was certainly true that he had been pampered, and he was mostly aware of that. It was also true that he'd never truly been insulted, as he had, unknowingly, insulted her. That was still somewhat of a contentious topic in Jacobs mind, whether or not he had insulted her in actuality, but to her, she had been insulted. The worse he'd had was being called an idiot by his tutor, once, and that man had never tutored him again. "Hm. " He momentarily glanced away from her, looking over at the floor behind her instead, as he tried to gather his thoughts on how to proceed.

"Uh.. " His frown deepened, stunted in the moment. He hadn't really had to deal with any crying girls before, this was entirely uncharted territory. A tissue. A tissue would save the day. Probably. He reached into his bag, pulling out a freshly folded handkerchief, and offering it out to her, returning his gaze back to her once more.

"I think, potentially. There might be, possibly, some truth in what you may have said. Maybe" He muttered, sounding embarrassed at his words, despite his very obvious attempts at trying to save face, and skirt around the issue as he spoke. "It's true that I don't know what its like to live with a muggle as a father, and I also didn't really know there was still.. Such open judgement, as to fire your father for that. I thought most of that was kept in.. Uh, certain social circles." He glanced away once more at those final words, very much aware that his mother moved within those circles, and had dragged him along a number of times.

"What was it your dad before he was fired? "

"Same thing," Viva said irritably. A half muggle-born was the same as a half-blood, half-blood was just the more formal name for it. Viva sniffed at his next words. This boy was eleven, eleven! And he thought he was a mature man? What was wrong with him? He was so ignorant. She felt he owed her an apology.

Viva could feel the tears rolling down her cheeks, and she felt incredibly embarrassed. When Jacob kindly held out the handkerchief, she slowly reached out and took the offering, trying to clean her face. Now with red eyes, she turned back to him, studying the boy. He looks like he knows I'm right. But I was pretty harsh. Viva felt a wave of shame wash over her. Deep down, she knew that the boy hadn't exactly insulted her straight out, but his words cut regardless. It's not entirely his fault, she realized. He was raised this way. At least he's not malicious and horrid, like some of the other pure-bloods I've encountered. At least he hasn't tried to kick me yet. With a shudder at distant memories, Viva brought her mind back to the present.

Trying to quiet her sobs, she managed a few more words. "You - wouldn't - know," she said as her body shivered. "You've - been - sheltered - all - your - life," The anger and hurt had left her voice though, and now it was quiet and subdued. She sounded more defeated than anything else. Viva shook her head at his question. "That's none of your business." She sniffled a little. "I don't want to talk about it."

"Not the same thing, but whatever.." He muttered under his breathe, likely barley loud enough for her to even hear him.

He simply nodded as she took the handkerchief, waiting for her to clean her face. As she returned her gaze to him, he couldn't help but feel scrutinised by her gaze, but he didn't respond at all to her, simply waiting for her to finish studying him. He allowed his own mind to wander slightly whilst he waited. Should he just apologise? It'd feel shallow if the did, he didn't exactly feel sorry for his comments, after all, he just felt bad for the response they'd caused.

As she spoke, his frown deepened. What exactly was it that he didn't know? He'd gotten a bit lost during their conversation, truth be told, but bringing up that he was lost may undo any progress they'd just gained. "Aw " He sounded somewhat defeated at her own reluctance to answer his question. "Why not? I won't judge it or anything. "

"If not, what about your mum? " He asked, before glancing away, looking somewhat confused. "What do muggles tend to do for work? I saw those buses and stuff around London, I guess people got to drive those, and.. People walking around in suits, but I don't know where they went really. Did you Dad get a muggle job then after he was fired, as well?"

Saying sorry to @Jacob Thorley

Viva felt barely weak enough to stand, let alone argue. She was too exhausted to keep fighting, but still had a little niggling annoyance at Jacob inside of her. "I already said, it's none of your business!" She said tiredly, finishing wiping her face. She handed the handkerchief back. It wasn't exactly dirty, just wet from tears. "Anyways, muggles do all sorts of things. The ones in suits often are business men. And my dad can't find a job right now..." She trailed off, thinking of her home life and how money was tight and her mum was struggling to make ends meet for her family. Her dad was constantly angry and bitter, and made life generally miserable. But Jacob didn't need to know that. Viva shrugged a little, brushing off the topic.

Looking into Jacob's bright blue eyes, Viva coughed slightly. Now her emotions were pretty calmed down, and she definitely felt remorse for their little interaction. "Um," she muttered, shifting her feet around. "I'm - I'm sorry for poking you. And yelling." She looked at the ground. "It's just... I have a hard life. And... it hurts. And you wouldn't understand that, because you have it easy. That's all I'm trying to say." Viva looked back up at Jacob, willing him to understand.

Jacob once again shifted slightly along the bench, in case she chose to take a seat once again. "Sure." He shrugged, somewhat disappointed by her reluctance to discuss her parents situation. It'd seemed like a decent enough way to pivot the conversation away from what had caused such a blow up. "Business man sounds kind of cool. I think." He nodded, before he frowned at her mention of her father. "Oh.. " He hesitated for a moment. "Sorry to hear that." He said, his tone surprisingly sincere, considering how much he had judged the man only a few moments prior. "There's muggle departments in the Ministry, has he tried looking there? Probably pretty qualified having married a muggle."

As she apologised, he nodded slowly. "It's fine. " He began, before quickly adding on. "I'm sorry to then, wasn't really aware what I was saying could be interpreted as bad."

His frown only deepened at the mention of her having a hard life. "Yeah, I had it pretty easy.. Can't think of anything I've never struggled for or whatever, you know?" He said innocently, unaware of how potentially insensitive he could sound

"When'd you do your first magic, then? I mean, like, how long have you actually known about magic and stuff?"

Viva shrugged, pretending not to care. "It's not your fault he doesn't have a job." Directly. What do you want to bet his parents know my dad, what do you want to bet they are part of the pure-bloods who won't let him have a job. She didn't know. "And yes, he looked at the Ministry."

Furrowing her brow at Jacob's pitiful excuse for an apology, she muttered, "I forgive you." Her glare only deeped once more as he talked about how easy his life was. Did he not pay attention to anything she said? Was he that insensitive? Or did he just not care...

Taking a deep breath and smoothing her clothes, Viva began. "I first learned about magic was on my eighth birthday. My father, Keneth Delacourt, had just bought my mum a very precious and expensive vase. I was carrying it to the table, and dropped it." Viva stiffened, remembering her father's angry voice as he scolded her harshly. "My dad was... mad. Until he looked down and realized it hadn't broken at all, not even a chip. My parents were overjoyed that I had inherited my father's magic, and he explained everything to me that day." She looked past Jacob, staring into the distance, traveling into her own memories. "I was so excited, I could hardly believe it. I couldn't wait to come to Hogwarts and learn how to use my special powers. But learning that I had magic reawakened a longing inside my father for the wizarding world. He had learned to live like a muggle, but now that I got to go back, he was horribly jealous. Out of a job by then, he slowly became more bitter and angry about life as I grew older. I was never very close with him, to say the least." Viva sniffed, rubbing her arms self-consciously. "I think he always wondered if he made the right choice," she said softly. "If my mum was worth giving up his magic. He definitely didn't think I was worth it."
