EmmaLee was late. Oh so late.
On the second day of actual classes for the year, the pale girl ran down the corridor at an astonishing speed. She had stayed up far too late ruminating over the first day of classes, the fight? she had had over the weekend, and the still lingering tension between herself and Kiernan. Well, honestly, between Kiernan and everyone at this point. He seemed to be in a better mood, but EmmaLee could tell that there was a strain in her friend group from their notes in the book they mailed back and forth. Kiernan's were still short and quippy, as if he was being pressured to write something to their over seas fourth.
All of a sudden, Stephen popped into her head as well and made her already pounding heart skip a beat. Ugh! She had no time for this! She was supposed to be in Charms five minutes ago and it would take another five to get there from here.
EmmaLee tore through the deserted corridors, swinging herself around a banister to try and propel herself even faster to get to class, but she used it instead to stop herself short before she ran into another person standing in her way and looking very confused.
The boy was looking this way and that, his back hair fwipping around his face like a swing carnival ride as he looked right and left.
"Ah...um... can I help you?" She asked, a bit breathless, hanging by one elbow off the banister. She was late, sure, but the boy looked rather lost and once noticed, EmmaLee couldn't just ignore that. Maybe, hopefully, they were going in the same direction, if not the same class. EmmaLee did recognize the boy as one of the new Hufflepuff first years, but she had not caught his name in all the chaos of the welcoming feast.

WC - 326 wordsHogwarts is huge. Really huge for a boy who had no idea about the school. Sure, he was informed of the castle's basic information by school staff when they came into his house, but there was merely more than that in order to navigate his new school. It had already been an hour since he left the Hufflepuff common room to find his upcoming class' location, yet he was stranded in the maze of corridors somewhere on the second floor.
Vicente tried to retrace his footsteps back to the common room, but the mysterious and complicated architecture played a trick on his memory, leading him in a circle twice. He stood there feeling hopeless as he tried to restrain himself from shedding a teardrop. A map for this school would have make all the difference, but alas, all he had was his vague sense of directions, and his two hands gripping his Defence Against the Dark Arts textbook tighter out while he desperately tried to find his way out of the maze of empty corridors. It was just his fifth day at Hogwarts, and he couldn't believe he was already lost. He couldn't shake the feeling of regret for not waiting for his prefects and the rest of the Hufflepuff first years instead of venturing on his own.
The small boy lingered in tears along the long pathway of the narrow corridor as a bunch of portraits on the wall accused him of rule-breaking for his tardiness. He turned the corner of the narrow corridor into another corridor, scanning his new surroundings to seek out older people for help. Suddenly, he felt the presence of a person behind him, and Vicente turned his head, his tear-streaked face glistening under the ray of sunlight coming from the window of the corridor as he sniffled softly, trying to compose himself in front of the girl with platinum blonde hair. "Did my prefect send you to find me?" Vicente asked, his words were interrupted by the rhythmic hiccup of his sobs.

EmmaLee chuckled a little. "They did not." She said pointedly with a friendly smile. "I am just 'orribly late for my own class, but I would be more than 'appy to 'elp you find yours." She let go of the banister and pulled her sleeves over her hands as she stepped gingerly closer to him, then used the edges of her sleeves to wipe his tears.
"'Ogwarts is a vast maze and everyone gets lost at least once, if not multiple times." She explained, chuckling a little again, and tipping her head to the side to see the book in his arms. "The trick is to find landmarks and remember which floor each class is on. For example, if you're 'eading to Defense, we aren't too far away. At least we're on the right floor. If you turn left from the 'Ufflepuff common room, you'll eventually get to portrait on the right that says 'If you go in 'ere something will eat you'. The door next to it is the Defense classroom." She finished explaining.
"There." She said as she finished drying his face. She offered him her hand to shake as she introduced herself. "My name is EmmaLee LeDames. I'm a second year 'Ufflepuff and very glad to 'ave you join our 'ouse." She said with a bright smile.
I asked Professor about a portrait outside their door and they said it would be this one.

WC - 260 wordsVicente was taken aback when the girl reached out and used her own robe to gently wipe his tears. Perhaps he wasn't quite comfortable with a stranger's touch, but he was desperate for comfort after the tumultuous roller-coaster of emotions just to find his classroom, which turned out to be close to his own common room. Stupid Vicente, always eager to avoid causing any trouble. If it wasn't for that he would arrive to the class on time.
He felt guilty when she confessed that she, too, was late to her class, but he really didn't want to go alone to his class. As she finished explaining the location of his class, which he hadn't paid much attention to due to the warmth and comfort of the girl's hand. Once his sobbing aftermath symptoms stopped, and he reached out his small hand to shake hers while still grasping the DADA textbook, which became heavier for him to hold. If only he brought along his messenger bag this day, his weak hands might not trembled from carrying the dusty large textbook too long.
"My name is Vicente Hidalgo," he said to the girl, enunciating each syllable of his name clearly to ensure she didn't make a mistake in saying it, Ever since the sorting ceremony happened, Vicente had to talk slowly. "Thank you for helping me." Vicente wanted to ask but couldn't bring himself to tell his senior that he needed someone to accompany him to class. It felt like an imposition, and he didn't want to burden her any further.

EmmaLee shook the boy's hand and listened carefully as Vicente slowed down to say his name. "Vicente, the name, is Spanish, yes?" She asked, taking note of his own accent, one she couldn't really place but sounded South American, as well to make the assumption. She had gone to various South American countries with her parents and her stepfather had done business with a few who had that style of accent, but she still hadn't been exposed enough to pick out individual ones.
Her mother had taught her Spanish and English from a young age and held the belief that it was only polite to one, speak in someone's native tongue if you could, and two, not speak a different language around someone who couldn't understand it. Hence, she and her mother usually spoke French alone, but if her stepfather stepped into the room, they would switch to English, as he didn't know a lot of French.
"We should take you to class." She said in Spanish, turning with a raised eyebrow towards the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom. She'd be a little bit later to her own class by taking him to his, but at this point late was late. It wasn't like she was almost ever late, so she'd probably get a warning. She smiled brightly as they started walking. "Do you like Hogwarts so far, aside from getting lost?" She continued in Spanish with a small chuckle. She didn't know if he understood this brand of Spanish, but she was sure he would tell her if he didn't.

WC - 266 wordsIs she a Latina? Perhaps she's stayed in Argentina at some point? This made Vicente curious about her nationality. While her accent wasn't really spot on, her proficiency in Spanish was impressive for someone who had learned the language. He nodded thoughtfully before walking alongside his senior towards his DADA class, considering whether to ask her directly about her background.
"Are you South American as well?" the short Hufflepuff boy asked EmmaLee before looking up and down as if he's judging her physical look. He knew that physical appearance doesn't really matter when it comes to nationality, but he was just trying to find a way to remember her, since Hogwarts has an excessive number of students. EmmaLee has platinum blonde hair, which is tied up into a neat hairstyle, and pale skin that makes her blue eyes radiant; at least that's what Vicente thought about her look. "You don't seem like one, honestly." Ouch, that might've come across as a bit harsh if she is a South American, yet Vicente remained unaware of his blunt observation.
He was actually commenting on her accent, but she probably mistook him for judging her appearance, which did not fit the typical South American stereotype. Dark hair? Tsss. Slightly tan to dark skin complexion? Tsss. Curly or wavy hair? He really couldn't tell. It wasn't a moment before he realised that he hadn't responded to her question about his experience at Hogwarts so far. "Ah, erm.. It's just fine," Vicente replied, using his other hand to scratch his head, "The homework I got yesterday was too much, though."

EmmaLee laughed a little at his response. She had always found it a little amusing when she would speak Spanish to people in America, or she would speak Spanish around people, and they were surprised at the pale girl's fluency. Interestingly she always seemed to get one of two responses: most of the time the person was pleasantly surprised and excited to chatter with her, but sometimes she would meet someone who was offended that she would try to speak Spanish with them when it was clearly not her first language. After a moment, EmmaLee realized that Vicente might think that she was laughing at him, rather than amused by the situation.
"I'm sorry for the laughter. No, I am not South American. I was originally born in France, and then I moved to America, and then to Scotland. My Maman taught me English and Spanish from a young age, so I am decently fluent in both." She explained with a smile as they walked. As much as she was enjoying talking to Vicente in generally, she went ahead and started to walk a little faster to get to their destination as she hadn't forgotten that they both were quite late to their classes. They could have a real conversation later in the common room later or they could find each other at lunch.
"Sorry if I seem presumptuous. Your accent seems South American so I thought I would try. And sorry if my speaking is a little rusty, as well. In Scotland, I don't have a lot of opportunity to practice Spanish. I had a lot more practice in America." She continued carefully, hoping she hadn't accidentally offended him, then nodded as he commented about the homework on his first day.
"I'm sorry they gave you a lot of homework on the first day. If you ever need any help with it, you can certainly ask me or any other in Hufflepuff house. We are all very eager to help our fellow housemates." She offered with a beaming smile.

WC - 268 wordsIt all made sense to Vicente that she's indeed not a South American; no offence, yet she managed to impress him with her Spanish and how helpful she was to him. Perhaps she could be a great guide for him throughout his first year at Hogwarts.
He let out a small 'Oh' to her after she explained everything and walked faster to his destination. It wasn't long until Vicente arrived at the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom, the platinum blonde-haired girl catching up to him. He knocked on the big oak door before facing EmmaLee.
"Thank you," Vicente bowed to her, still holding his textbook for dear life, when it was slowly slipping out because of it's heaviness. "I will see you a-." He heard a loud sigh emanating from the classroom, followed by a deep voice saying, "Come in," before he managed to complete his sentence.
Vicente gulped as he straightened up from his bow, a sinking feeling settling in. Oh no, he was likely in deep trouble, based on how his professor responded to his knock. He waved his hand quickly before he went into the classroom.
Hopefully, EmmaLee understood why he didn't say a proper goodbye—at least it wasn't a proper one to him since it was interrupted by his professor, but overall, Vicente enjoyed his company with her, and he learned his lesson: Never go out on your own unless you are already used to this surrounding, unless you want to get lost and cry like a stupid boy.

EmmaLee giggled as the boy understood her explanation and took off at a job down the hall. She went ahead and followed after at her own jog to make sure that he fully made it to the right place, which he did.
With a quick thank you and an almost goodbye, the boy disappeared into the defense against the dark arts room and EmmaLee giggled quietly once again. The boy's nervousness reminded her of her friend Grace. She gave a little wave as the door closed and resolved to check in on him next time she saw him in the halls or the common room.
She pulled a silver pocket watch with a blue stone butterfly on it from a pocket in her skirt to check just how late she was now. Would it be worth it to try and run all the way to the charms, or was it better to just take the absence and be early for flying? Well, she was only 10 minutes late now, she could make it there in five and get through most of the lesson. She was sure to get some kind of reprimand no matter what she did so she tightened her bag around her shoulder and took off down the hallway as fast as her pale, short legs would carry her.
EmmaLee (and Vicente) have left the thread.
