Hufflepuff VS Slytherin
───────────────────
Hades' idea was to use the Duo Fire on Hanako, with the aim of causing at least a minimum of damage. The fog covering his rivals seemed to have dissipated, the same fog he had summoned. He frowned slightly. He had nothing to say but to think.

Hades' spell worked but did not hit with his target, unfortunately he was hit by an offensive spell by Hanako. Hades rolled his eyes and breathed a long sigh. Since the last duels, he had grown somewhat displeased at failing with spells.

Duels were a game of magical tug-o-war - a constant battle to maintain your dominance that with even a seconds hesitation would be ripped from your grasp. Sure, there were situations that favored on side or another, but it could all change in an instant. Was this one of those?

Slytherin had spent used their last spells setting the board in their favor, and they wouldn't hold back. The trio sang a melody of force, triple (technically quadruple) flipendos. It was not a strategy that needed an explanation, even the most clueless audience-member would recognize that they wanted blood. The Badgers seemed to feel similar, they just had a couple of other spells in mind. Hades didn't want to let Slytherin have all the fun; he would produce a flipendo of his own. Lucia would incant a Ventus, the forming wind a pleasant change of pace from the other four. And then there was Lea. The first syllable out of her mouth drew Galton's attention immediately - he had not expected it from a forth year, by the end of it he cringed. "Confringo." Said with such eloquence it seemed for a second like it might be perfect. The Vipers would have a tiny amount of solace knowing it wasn't. Galton shot his hands towards his ears as he braced for himself for what was about to happen.

The Badgers had chosen Ruby as the sole object of their ire. All three spells were aimed at her. Hades' flipendo would catch the side of her hip as she moved to dodge. While it wasn't a full impact, it must have been enough to throw her off. Lucia's ventus was next. This time Ruby would catch the spell's full force. And from the fog emerged the confringo. It was a wild shot from a half-blind Lea, but dazed, Ruby's foot would catch her ankle as she tried to avoid the final spell. The subsequent explosion would boom through the hall as it consumed Ruby. Though she wouldn't be able to see it from within the bright ball of flames, Ruby's flipendo would be the only Slytherin spell to connect. Maybe a cruel joke from Merlin? Hades would feel a punch to his gut as it caught him. Hanako and Opeila's flipendos would putter out on the piste floor, completely missing their marks.

The Badgers had ripped some of the metaphorical rope back. The scene seemed a lot more even now, after a rather disastrous round for the Vipers. But everyone was still standing. It was exhilarating. One would be hard pressed to take their eyes off the duel for even a second. Who knows what you'd miss?

On the bright side, he knows what Ruby is gifting him for his upcoming birthday. His head on a silver platter. That is, if he even survives after this duel. Hanako didn’t need to see through the fog to guess who was the recipient of the barrage of flipendos. Better them than him. Half of him was tempted to ask if everything was okay, but then again… it was… the viridian vipers. Their trio was never particular encouraging and beaming with team spirit. Well, whatever. Cazares has to settle with Hanako silent hoping of her health in the future rounds.

Lea, at this point, was under the assumption that any round of spells could very easily be her last before the Hufflepuff would be shipped off to the Hospital Wing. She couldn't really tell who the Slytherins were focused on, the smoke and fog made sure of that, but the Fourth Year could certainly work on a spell of her own. Confringo- Lea had gotten rather familiar with from her first duel this school year and while challenging to cast, it produced explosive results that made the extra concentration worth it. Being able to cast it perfectly was a trouble for another time, although how close she had gotten left a slightly bitter taste as the syllables sloshed together and fumbled the spell despite her precise and sharp wand movements. No matter, her mind quickly dropped the frustration to track the forms and shadows of the Slytherin team, finding where she remembered Ruby to be before sharply flicking the spell towards the sixth year.

An explosion of the ground nearby someone gave little indication of whether it actually hit unless one could see the damage caused, but Lea would hope she was successful as she shifted within her dome of darkness to keep a good distance between herself and the Flipendo heading her way. Another round, another chance.

Lucia's ventus met its mark and she smiled as the oldest Slytherin was caught up in a whirlwind. Not only that, but each of her teammates hit her with their own spell. Lucia had to feel a little sorry for the girl as she was subjected to both a flipendo from Hades and a blasting curse from Lea.

Hufflepuff VS Slytherin

Hades’s expression remained indifferent, despite having cast a spell that he claimed was effective enough to strike his target, being Ruby. First it was Hades, who only managed to hit a part in Ruby, then his teammates having managed to give in full. Even though he wanted blood, he could not suppress putting on an expression of pain, because he could not imagine how it would be to get hit by three spells. For his misfortune, Ruby casted a spell that struck on him. He looked at her with small strokes of hatred directed at her. He recovered and was more than willing to continue the duel.

Spell after spell impacted her as she tried and failed to dodge. Had she not been angered by the pain, eyes alight with determination to continue, she might have found the fourth year’s Blasting Curse through the fog impressive. As it stood, though, she was busy trying to stay more or less on her feet as well as land a spell—which, surprisingly, did make contact with the Hufflepuff she had targeted. Well, it wasn’t her first time being on the brink of unconsciousness and still performing better than her teammates.

The duel was certainly not in the Slytherins' favor. Once again, that meant. Opeila's spellcasting was flawless, but both of them trailed off into the distance, missing their target by far. From the corner of her eye she saw Hanako's spell flying off into the void. What didn't go into the void were the Hufflepuff's spells, flying towards Ruby. Opeila winced when all three spells hit her teammate.

You could feel it taking hold of the crowd. Their breathes growing slower and slower, holding their breath in anticipation and excitement. A whirlwind of a round had evened the scales, and they knew it had to tip to one side soon. The duel had reached a certain maturity, too many duelists were bruised and battered. Someone would go down.

The Vipers would move to make sure it wouldn't be Ruby who met the piste floor first. Opeila would aim a quick Reparifors at her teammate, while Ruby threw up a sparkling Protego. Hanako would carry the offensive torch for the team, casting a Flipendo. Hufflepuff, however, would not let their fragile state dissuade them from trying to take the snakes out. Two batches of Nec Divinos Crepitus would come fluttering out of Lea and Lucia's wands, it seemed they wanted the Viper's end to be pretty. A sentiment that Hades shared, evident by his artful casting of Ventus.

Hades' handling of the artful wind was something else though. Merlin must have been playing a cruel joke. The aim for his original target terrible - the extra force from the perfect cast must have thrown him off. The aim of his spread was fantastic though - it had no problem crashing into Ruby's shiny new protego. And it certainly had no problem rebounding right back to him. The boy was caught in his own perfect little windy hell.

Lea would find much more success than Hades. Her crackers would explode into a tantalizing display of lights which both Opeila and Hanako would have a hard time avoiding. But by the time Lucia's crackers exploded they'd wisened up. With the initial blast caught and consumed by Ruby's shield, the smaller crackers would be an easy obstacle for the two to avoid.

The last spell to make its impact would be the most deadly. Hanako's flipendo was aimed for Lea. As the two were locked in the fog together the crowd would only see a yellow light illuminate the Viper and his wand before shooting through the fog, bringing its soft glow as it moved. Lea would not have a chance in the fog. The impact would be too much for the already wounded duelist to handle. Galton's voice rang out "PAUSE!" Mediwizards swarmed the stage.

By the time Lea was cleared from the piste the fog had completely dissipated. It seemed the duel had claimed it's first victim. "RESUME!" As Galton called the match back on he could only wonder who would be next.

Honestly, it should’ve been predictable that she would cast the Shield Charm, given that she had been hit so badly the previous round. It appeared that one of the Hufflepuffs hadn’t necessarily tried to hit Ruby, though—his focus seemed to be more on Opeila—but nevertheless, an extra gust of wind went barreling towards the sixth year, bouncing off her shield and back at the boy who had cast. She laughed when it hit, vaguely amused by the sight of the Hufflepuff taking the blow from his own spell, before her attention drifted back to other things.

Her teammates got impacted by a Cracker Jinx, which she managed to get out of the way of, and the second Cracker Jinx—which was aimed at her—hit her shield and dissipated. She rolled her eyes, almost bored. Soon, though, there was a thump from the fog and then a call of "Pause!" from Galton, indicating that the girl had gone down. Finally, Hanako had managed to knock her out. The fog cleared as they waited for her to be removed from the piste, and Ruby glanced over at Hanako to give him a small nod of approval. “One down, two to go. Let's clean this up,” she said to her teammates, looking at their opponents across the piste.
