Kaitlyn flushed when she saw Seraphina falter. ‘I didn’t intend to say anything offensive, I was just trying to tell my friend something…’ her mind trailed off. Her blue eyes downcast slightly, staying quiet to give Seraphina the space to talk. She closed her eyes briefly, when she noticed her friend was not saying anything at all. ‘Oh fudge. I hope I didn’t ruin this friendship by mentioning something insensitive. I do rather enjoy tree climbing,’ she thought.

After Seraphina’s apology, Kaitlyn opened her eyes at looked at her friend. ‘I wonder what happened to her. I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask. I’ll let her tell me if she wants to. I’m her friend and I don’t want to make her uncomrtable,’ she thought. She gave Seraphina a sympathetic smile and nodded. “I do like to climb trees. Most of the girls at the boarding school I went to didn’t, so I haven’t been able to climb as much. I hope I can here,” she explained, softly. She let her blue eyes downcast again and simply nodded. “I’m sorry,” she whispered, putting a friendly hand lightly on Seraphina’s shoulder.

‘I hope she lets me help her. I do like to help people … even if I’m shy,’ she thought. Kaitlyn shook her head lightly at Seraphina’s statement. “You don’t need to be sorry, you did nothing wrong,” she replied, quietly.

A light flush enveloped her cheeks at Seraphina’s question. “Mine’s not exciting,” she replied. “I was in the library at my boarding school helping out. As I put books on the shelves, some books fell down around me,” she shrugged. “I found it weird at the time, unsure of what to make of it,” she responded.

Kaitlyn stayed quiet again, as Seraphina recounted what happened when she first displayed magic. She instantly felt bad, but bit herself back to give her friend space to talk. ‘Is it just me, or does it sound like she’s about ready to cry? I need to be a supportive friend here. Back at my muggle boarding school, I routinely acted like a supportive friend, and helped them with their issues. I hope I can do that here,’ she thought.

Once Seraphina stopped talked, Kaitlyn waited two beats before continuing. “Seraphina that sounds scary. May I hug you?” She asked. While they were friends, she didn’t want to randomly touch Seraphina without permission. She didn’t want to freak out the other girl. Saving a theater club comment until after Seraphina was better, she gave her friend a sad smile.

“For the first four days, after we first arrived at Hogwarts, I cried myself to sleep each night. I’d also hug these two stuffed animals, technically squishmallows, to help me feel safe. I have an old stuffed teddy bear locked away in my trunk. I also have already written two letters to my family, since we’ve come here. Seraphina, while you don’t need my permission for it, you’re welcome to cry, if you’d like. I honestly won’t judge you,” she replied, placing a comforting hand on the girl’s back.

Kaitlyn smiled sadly, but hugged Seraphina tightly back. She felt bad that her friend was upset, but she rather enjoyed the hug, in her opinion. She felt a slight tinge of remorse when Seraphina pulled away. A light flush enveloped her cheeks at the compliment. “Thanks. I wear a tulip perfume. I like it so much,” she giggled. “And I honestly don’t mind if you cry. I was serious when I said I’d like for us to be comfortable around each other. We’re both muggleborn, and, I think it’d be cool if help each other,” she proposed a bright smile on her face. “And I do have a time I cried a lot. Two days before we met at the train station, if you want I hear it,” she shrugged.

“I completely agree! It does get scary. You should see the dungeons. I refuse to go down there after dinner,” Kaitlyn replied, shivering slightly. “That’s great, I’m happy you brought your favorite doll,” she smiled, encouragingly. She shook her head. “I don’t have an owl. I’d love to buy a pet one day. I borrowed one of the school owls. I can come to help you, if you want,” she suggested.

Kaitlyn giggled and nodded. “I feel lost without my phone and computer. I do like reading, but I’d be happy to have the option to go on the Internet again,” she beamed to Seraphina. She tried to wrack her brain for the reason they couldn’t have muggle technology at Hogwarts. “I think it was because the magic causes the technology not to work? I also see no outlets, so we wouldn’t be able to charge them, either,” she frowned.

Kaitlyn nodded to Seraphina’s statement. “It is so weird. But, I find it kind of enjoyable. Not too many students wander down there, and it’s a perfect place to hide. I sometimes do yoga down there, too. If you’d like to go down there, we can go together?” She offered with a patient smile. She nodded her head at Seraphina’s statement about her house’s ghost. “I agree, he is kind of scary. I find the whole concept of ghosts to be strange and foreign. I don’t know if I’ll ever get used to that,” she agreed, shivering slightly.

“I’ll probably use the castle owls, too. I don’t know if my parents will like owls flying to the house so often, though. I’d love a cat … oh, or a bunny!” She exclaimed with a giggle, her blue eyes sparkling. She loved all animals and found them cute. Basically, anything she could afford! “I agree, I left a few at home I’d love to connect with,” she agreed.

Kaitlyn’s cheeks flushed and nodded. “Okay. It is a sad story, though,” she replied. She sighed lightly. “So … I felt so bad for having to keep Hogwarts a secret from my muggle friends. Their names are Rebecca, Savannah, and Hannah. Two days before we came here, I decided to tell them a different secret to help relieve some of my guilt. That secret is that I like girls. Rebecca and Savannah were super helpful and already guessed that I was. Hannah … Hannah declared our friendship dead. She was my first best friend at the boarding school. And she just destroyed it, all because of whom I like. I cried after that for hours,” she replied, letting her eyes droop on her artwork, continuing to work on her drawing.

Kaitlyn laughed with Seraphina, snorting in the process. She grinned widely. “Hey, don’t knock it. As I said, no one disturbs me. I guess either because they’re too scared, or they see some weird girl practicing yoga and decide to leave her alone,” she giggled. “I’d love to show you around. Don’t worry, I won’t do it either, when we’re together. I like to run and dance, too!” She exclaimed with a bright and wide smile.

Kaitlyn smiled at Seraphina’s statement about cars and bunnies. “Really? I want to see the next time I’m outside practicing yoga. I recently saw a nice spot outside near the Forbidden Forest. I really want to see some,” she giggled. “If I ever do get a bunny, I’ll train it not to attack you,” she smiled. “You and I both. I’m both excited and scared as to what that may entail,” she admitted.

“Th-thanks,” Kaitlyn replied quietly. “I hope so, too. She said a few hurtful comments to me before leaving,” she sighed and shook her head. “Sorry to get you down with a depressing topic,” she gave a sad smile. She flushed and shrugged at Seraphina’s statement about liking anyone. “I mean, we only just came here. Have I seen cute girls? Sure. Have I found one I like yet? Nope. I’d rather focus right now on not getting kicked out … But, who knows what the future will hold? I’m sure you’ll eventually meet someone you’ll like,” she offered Seraphina her support. “And I’ll be here for you to talk to about it,” she promised.
