The Unbothered Broom :/
Ash, being a muggle-born, didn't know anything about Hogwarts, or well, the entire wizarding world. Being a witch was still a huge surprise for her. And now, what surprised her even more was they could fly. Fly in the sense, that they could fly on brooms, not on aeroplanes like that in the muggle world. This is what Ash used to dream of when she was younger. And not only seeing it but also going to experience it was sending thrills to her entire body.Ash Speaking
Though flying wasn't as easy as she thought. It sounded so simple that all they had to do was mount the broom and say 'up'.
"Up," Ash muttered, but Nothing really happened. Most of the students weren't able to fly in the very first time, and Ash was one of them, of course.
"Up," She said for the 41st time with a stiff forced smile, hoping the broom to get impressed and lift up in the air just this bit.
"Up. Up? Up! UP, for god's sake!!" She sighed. "Wow." Ash looked down at the broom desperately. "Come on..."
After some good minutes of begging the broom to fly, Ash gave up and looked around, and her face lit up at once. All those times, she hadn't realised they were having classes with the Ravenclaws. Ash saw May Snow, her first-ever friend standing next to her with the broom.
"Hey!! What's up, May?" She smiled.

The Unbothered Broom :/
May had been waiting for classes to start since forever, she had done magic at home and wanted to implement it at Hogwarts. Not to mention she had ridden a broom before, her brother had sneakily let her ride his broom once, and their parents still didn't know! Not that they were around much, they were always out doing this, that and the other. Anyway, May was excited for this class, she had memorised her timetable and the houses they were with. She realised that the first class was with the Hufflepuffs.Ash Speaking May Speaking
May walked over to her brand new friend Ash Brown, they had only met a few hours ago on the train but were inseparable. As Ash saw May walking towards her, the Hufflepuff's face lit up with joy as she smiled her signature smile that always made May hopeful, even when she was nervous. "Hey!! What's up, May?"
"Not what's supposed to be up Ash, why's your broom still stuck on the ground?" May asked curiously. Ash was smart, of course, she would be able to do it. May looked around to see so many others struggling as it hit her; so many of these people hadn't even seen a broom before and Ash answered her doubt.
"I didn't know flying on brooms existed anywhere apart from books-" Mays face instantly lit up from the mention of books "-and dreams until like, 10 minutes ago."
"Here, I have a trick. What you have to do is you have to call from within yourself, give it a stern order, but make it more like a request or a bribe. Like when parents tell kids to do their homework, parents are always like 'If you do your homework, your teacher will be so proud of you, you'll probably be her favourite.' Try that, make your voice seem persuasive and your intentions clear." May had studied enough to know that the fancy writing wasn't going to help anyone new to Hogwarts, especially in the first lesson, so May used anecdotes and examples, they usually worked when she had to explain stuff.

The Unbothered Broom :/
Ash got quite upset during her first two classes since they didn't have classes with Ravenclaws, the house her best friend May Snow belonged to. She hadn't really made friends with any Hufflepuff yet so it was quite lonely for her. But thanks to the classes, they were so interesting that they kind of lessened the loneliness. Seeing May walking towards her made Ash want to hug her.Ash Speaking
And thanks to her, May was so good at explaining that it instantly grew the hope in Ash that she could fly this time.
"So," she grinned. "All I have to do is persuade it. Ok..."
Ash loved heights, the chills down the spine, thrills and the weird feelings of the adrenaline rising in the stomach were some of the best feelings for her. Well, that's what made her unusual among people; but she never found herself caring about that much. It sometimes made her think about what makes people hate long heights. She'd have enjoyed it rather than being scared of it if she was in their place.
"Up," Ash said, but the broom remained still. "Up," she said, her tone might've been sounding as if she was persuading her brother to buy her more chocolates.
The broom gave a sudden violent shake, lifted up in the air, and lunged forward and then backwards.
"Wooo!" Ash blinked, half hanging from the broom. "This is fun! Thanks, May!!! Have you managed to fly tho?"

The Unbothered Broom :/
May observed Ash's determination with a sense of admiration. Despite the initial struggles, Ash's enthusiasm for flying was contagious, and May couldn't help but feel a surge of pride at her friend's perseverance.
"You're doing great, Ash!" May called out, her voice filled with encouragement. "Just keep your balance and trust your instincts. You've got this!"
As Ash continued to navigate the broom with growing confidence, May couldn't help but feel a sense of satisfaction. It was moments like these—sharing her passion for flying with her best friend—that made Hogwarts feel like home.
With a grin, May responded to Ash's question, her own excitement evident in her voice. "Oh, definitely!" she exclaimed. "I've been practicing every chance I get. Flying just feels so... freeing, you know? It's like nothing else matters when you're up there in the sky."
As they soared through the air together, May couldn't help but marvel at the bond they were forming. Despite being from different houses, she and Ash shared a love for adventure and a willingness to embrace new experiences.
"Look at you go, Ash!" May cheered, her heart swelling with pride. "I knew you'd take to flying like a natural. Hogwarts is definitely going to feel like home with you by my side."

The Unbothered Broom :/
The feeling of euphoria filled Ash's insides as she got better and better at flying; she still was finding it difficult to believe that they could fly on brooms and that she was actually flying; thanks to May who helped her with it.
Ash felt proud for having a friend like her since the very first day they'd met, and the feeling had increased even more.
Ash gaped at May as she told her that she'd been flying before, and she agreed with her. It really does feels like nothing matters when you're up there.
"Oh yes," she said a little too much enthusiastically which instantly made her frown at herself. "And I like the weird sensation of adrenaline rising in the stomach when I fly... I can still feel it!" And she wondered if she was a little too much honest.
It was Ash's best class so far... flying interested Ash even more than DADA and Charms...
They flew together in the crystal clear sky for a very long time. Ash was so happy at the moment... she was flying, and that too, with her best friend!! She didn't feel lonely anymore, knowing that her friend was there.
"Of course!" Ash grinned as she replied to May while they were still up in the sky. Having thin air hitting their faces, they had to shout to make sure their voices reached each other's ears."It's going to be extremely fun with you here!!" By this time, many more students, Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws had managed to ride their brooms. "And mind me, you're even beter at flying!!!" Ash added.
Ash realised their flying class was going to end soon, and at the same moment, she saw students who were up in the air like them speeding back to the ground on their brooms. Ash and May followed.
And it was over, well, for this day. Ash really did have a lot of fun and was sure May too had enjoyed.
"Meet ya very soon then, mate. Byebyeee!!!"
And Ash waved May goodbye as their houses walked in different directions, heading for their next classes.
