House elf

This is a little story about the last house elf in Mahlioz's grandparents' house. They're purebloods and grew up with them but a bit before this story happens Maeve begins to question the things she's been taught and starts to go against pureblooded stereotypes... which leads to this.

The year was 1986. In a grand manor lived two adults, two children and a single house elf. Said adults were sitting in the living room, arguing.
"What are we supposed to do without one? Maeve, I understand you're empathetic, but this house elf is our oldest one! It's been in my lineage for over two centuries! And what are you imagining we do once there's no one to do the house chores? Let it go to ruins?"
"Exactly! She's been serving us so kindly and humbly for so long. I think Jaspel deserves a break. And we can do things on our own, we're not incapable!"
"What, like muggles?! I can't believe you sometimes. We have two children that we already have to take care of, and both of us have important jobs. How are you imagining we'll find time to cook and clean and do chores that were made for house elves?"
"Yes, Dipuo, like muggles! What makes you think you're any better than them? You know, sometimes it's good to follow their example!"
Dipuo gaped. "Have you gone mad??" He was about to continue but Maeve cut him off.
"Listen, Dipuo. I love you, but some of your ideas are quite outdated. Lots of modern pureblooded families are starting to realize that blood status isn't as important as it used to be. Lots of people are realizing muggles can be quite interesting. Lots of families are letting their house elves go."
"Ah yes, like you've been doing. And I've just been letting you do so. My family owned at least a dozen house elves and you've just been freeing them like they were of no use. I can't let you do the same with the last one! It's a sign of our family honor, our prestige!"
Maeve crossed her arms, and Dipuo could see in her eyes that she'd made up her mind. "Well it shouldn't have to be," she huffed, before calling, "Jaspel?"

The house elf was there in an instant, giant eyes bulging. "What may Jaspel do for you, masters?" she asked.
"Jaspel, I've decided we are freeing you," Maeve said at exactly the same time as Dipuo replied, "Nothing, go back to your quarters." He glared at Maeve, but she glared right back, not backing down.
"This. Is worth it. We can take care of our house. We can take care of our children. We can take care of our honor and prestige." She turned to Jaspel. "You have been working us for so very long, and for that I thank you. But it is time for you to go and live your life to the fullest."
And she handed her a hat.

Dipuo could not have known that this was only the beginning. That he, too, would join his wife in her more modern ways. But when he saw the joy and thanks in Jaspel's eyes, he knew she had made the right choice.

This one's pretty self-explanatory. Wherever she is, Mahlioz will be at home if there are books to read. This was made using Canva and all the images come from there (though may have been edited - also using Canva).

Protector of your Dreams

This one doesn't actually have too much of an explanation! It's what came to mind with this prompt. It has nothing to do with hogwarts or hio or anything really. Just a random lil short story.

Mathias stopped in front of the door, looking up at the house he was facing. The night that was settling in and the dark clouds made it hard to see for any mortal, but thankfully Mathias was not included in them. He could see every old brick, every reflection in the windows, every feather of every bird resting on the perch that was the roof. Most of all, he could see the yellow mist.

A dark, murky yellow, like that of sulfur. If Mathias could smell, it would have smelled like something similar, only worse. He knew all too well what it was, considering it had killed him, decades ago.

Spreading his deep purple feathered wings, he flew up, creating enough air with their flapping to move off some of the yellow mist. It was only temporary - it wouldn't last more than a couple seconds - but a couple seconds was all he needed. He pulled out his necklace, created a vortex through the house's wall, dove into it... and he was inside.

It was only when he was subject to such peaceful silence that Mathias really realized how much sound the mist made. Internal sound. Chaos. It reigned in his mind whenever the mist was near him. But now... nothing.

Though he knew that wouldn't last long. The mist always found a way into the houses it wanted. This house had been relatively well guarded, with good spells protecting its walls and windows. Most older houses were like that. But when the Dream Celestials found out how creative the boy living in these walls was, how adamant the mist was to catch him, they'd sent Mathias right away. There was nowhere near enough protection for a boy like him.

Mathias took in his surroundings. It took him a couple more vortexes through walls to find the boy's room, where he was sleeping peacefully. A couple more hours and he wouldn't be sleeping, but gone. As Mathias was. He'd been killed that way, and now he was here to protect the boy from the same fate. From becoming like him. A Dream Celestial, cursed not to be seen by mortals, that could only pass on once they'd saved enough people from the mist.

A couple more spells and the boy's room was quite a bit more protected. But now Mathias had to go to the heart of the problem: the boy's creativity. It was what attracted the mist, especially if you had a lot, and it could be lethal depending on how much you had. Complex illusion magic, to make it seem and feel like the boy was bland as any other, would do the trick.

It didn't take too long, and by the time the yellow mist had made it into the boy's room, it would be disappointed by the apparent (but untrue) lack of dreams. One more kid saved. One more who wouldn't end up like Mathias.
