Lakes and Dragons pv Ruka Tân Closed

Ruka had needed some air.
The castle had become near suffocating and he was sick of having walls and people around him all the time. The Common Room was too crowded, the Corridors too empty, the Great Hall full of people he didn't know how to talk to, and all he really wanted was to see his dad.
So of course he did what he usually did; grabbed a book and made his way out to the Great Lake with a few pieces of bread in his cloak for the squid.
One of his hands was clutching the letter he had received a few days ago, the other was wrapped around his wand as if that was going to help with his whirlwind emotions somehow.

He had found a spot at the lake with nobody around, and he immediately kicked off his shoes to wade into the water a bit and feed the Giant Squid some bread. "Don't try to drown me again," he said like always as he threw some bread towards the tentacle that had appeared the second he'd touched the water.
Once he had done that, he stepped back onto the grass, his trouser legs rolled up to his knees, his cloak wet behind him, and sat down facing the calm water surface.
It was a good day to be outside, not too cold, not to warm, not too sunny, not too windy. He hadn't done this, by himself, in a while, so he was glad to just be relaxing for a while.
Lost in his own thoughts he straightened the letter he was carrying around with him like a madman and read through it again.
Then again.
And again.

By the time you come back for holidays the sun will shine again.

he read, over and over, like a mantra. It had become the only thing in his mind, so when he heard a voice directed at him, he flinched and dropped the letter onto his lap.
He blinked in slight confusion and looked up at the boy who'd approached him.
"I... Yeah," he answered awkwardly, laughing a bit at the boy's introduction line. It sounded more like a pickup line than anything else, but Ruka decided to put it down to social discomfort. "I do... come here often, yeah." He chuckled and shuffled around a bit as if to make space for the new arrival when in reality there was nobody else here anyway. He picked up the letter again and folded it in half, putting it on top of the book he'd brought along: Fantastic Beasts and Where to find Them. "Come, sit," he told the boy with a small smile, patting the grass next to him invitingly. "I was just... chilling, I guess. You can join me if you want. It's a fantastic day to stare into the water and do absolutely nothing."

Dale never had any friends when he lived in the mortal, he spent most of his time after school with his father, who equally lacked friends, but the one thing his father taught him to make friends you need to be assertive. His mom had told him to just relax and let the friends come to him, but even she didn't have very many friends either. His family never did socialize well. The only friends Dale had made at back at home was one of the boys he met at his dad's "bring your kids to work day" and even then he could not remember the boy's name. needless to say, Dale's social life was not the best, so he saw Hogwarts as a new start and a chance to make new friends. But he had been there for quite a bit and he still had no friends.

So when the little boy invited him to sit down he was very excited and happy to feel like he might be able to make a friend, so he sat down next t the boy and said "Sorry for the rude intrusion, my name is Dale, what's yours?" he said as he cracked a smile.

Ruka could tell that the boy that had just arrived seemed very excited to be invited to join him, and it made him smile a bit. He definitely remembered how excited he had been when he'd first started making friends around Hogwarts.
Although his own first proper friend-making-experience had involved Donny putting him on a broom for the first time and sending him flying. He was afraid he wasn't quite that exciting himself.
"I'm Ruka," he answered, grinning at the other boy as he sat down next to him. Dale was only a little taller than he was himself, which was a rare find for Ruka as even most of the girls he knew were quite a bit taller than him. It was definitely nice to talk to soneone he didn't need to look up at constantly though. "And don't worry, you're bot intruding anything. I was just..." He let his eyes drift over to his dad's letter sadly before focusing on Dale again. "I just like coming here to stop thinking for a bit." He chuckled and shook his head like it wasn't important before turning the conversation around at the other boy. "Anyway," he started, nudging Dals's arm lightly with his elbow. "What are you doing down here? There's not usually a lot of people here so in my experience when someone comes here they are kind of running away from something in the castle." He laughed lightly, looking out across the lake for a moment. He could see a pair of tentacles peeking out nearby as if they were waiting for some more bread so Ruka threw a few more crumbs at it.
Just to be sure.
He had no urge to be almost drowning again.
"You're a First Year too, right?" he added on, smiling encouragingly at Dale. "Like me."
