Exploring PV Seraphina Merryweather Closed

Here! Serafina thought to herself as she seated in a bench by a huge window in one of the numerous towers of the castle. She was utterly lost by now but that would be future Serafina's problem.
She has made her level best the whole week to follow people around to get on time to her classes and meals, but it was the first time she decided to explore Hogwarts by herself. It was a magnificent building, and she wondered if she would ever get used to it. It seemed improbable.

It was Friday, so she had the whole weekend to do her homework. It was the perfect time to unwind and take her sketchbook for a walk. She had been just happy to wander aimlessly for a while, every stair she had taken so far kept taking her higher and higher. So she ended up in a part of the castle she had never been before.
The view was great, though. From her sitting place she could see all over the grounds to the forbidden forest and over the lake. It was beautiful.
It was quiet too. It was a respite from the busy halls of the school, where even the portraits talked.
She opened the sketch pad and the watercolours and started to humm to herself.

Kaitlyn breathed a sigh of relief, when she reached the stairwell to a tower. Her blue eyes grew wide, as they traced the stairwell up. ‘Oooh, the view up here must be fantastic. I want to see,’ she thought. With a giggle, she leaped over to the stairwell, and started to climb, letting her fingertips graze the banister on both sides of the stairs, as she walked.

Since Kaitlyn was so shy and lacked confidence, she liked to dress well to give an air of having confidence. Her Slytherin uniform looked brand new with her tie perfectly tied around her neck. Her brunette hair didn’t budge from the cute braid and pigtail style she wore it in. While she wasn’t in the habit of dousing herself in makeup, she still liked to look as good, as possible.

At the top of the stairs, Kaitlyn noticed another girl sitting by herself with a sketch pad and watercolors. Immediately flushing, she was about to leave to give the girl some privacy when she recognized the red hair. She tentative approached the girl, thinking she recognized her. “Hi Seraphina,” she greeted her, shyly. “A-are you drawing, too? D-do you mind if I join you?” She asked, a tentative shy smile on her lips.

The drawing was coming along nicely. It was a stunning view and Seraphina was fully focused on it. She wanted to send it with her first owl home during the weekend. She was still entertained by the idea that magical people used birds to carry their correspondence. It was very romantic, but not as practical as the modern world commodities. She wondered if there was other ways to send messages in the magical community or why they didn't use technology. Maybe it interfere with magic somehow.
She started to mix the colours for the already changing sky and as she usually did, she accidentally got paint on her new robes. Damn! She was a mess. At least she was smudged by paint, not dirt like when she was in herbology or whatever was around her cauldron in potions.
She usually didn't mind too much, but felt a little self conscious when she saw some girl, the epitome of prim and proper, aproche her. Oh, wait! It was Kaitlyn! That made things... Better?
She approached.“Hi Seraphina,” “A-are you drawing, too? D-do you mind if I join you?”
What? Of course! That would be great! We haven't seen each other since the train! Do you draw too? How is Hogwarts treating you so far?

Kaitlyn smiled brightly, and sat down next to Seraphina. “Th-thank you,” she replied, politely. “I know! Sorry for not looking around for you sooner, I did enjoy meeting you that day. I’ve been so overwhelmed with everything new and different here. I think I’ve gotten lost each day we’ve been here, so far,” she admitted. “I like it here, but I’m constantly reminded of everything I took for granted at home, all of the muggle technology I can no longer use. And I miss my friends and family at home,” she mused with a frown. “How has Hogwarts been treating you?” She asked.

“And yes, I do draw. I have my sketchpad here with me too,” Kaitlyn replied, taking her own sketchpad out. “There’s so many beautiful places around here … and gosh, the architecture. I want to draw it all!” She giggled. “But, I’ve only done two drawings, since we arrived. One of the outside of the castle, and one of the black lake,” she replied. She glanced over at Seraphina, noticing the paint on her robes already, and giggled quietly. “I love your enthusiasm for this. I think it’s very telling how much fun you’re having by how dirty you become. I think it’s adorable,” she smiled.

"Adorable!? No way! I'm evil!" Seraphina said smiling broadly. "And a bit of a klutz. My father always says that I'm almost feral" surely there were adjectives like savage and wild much more appropiate to define her than adorable. "I've tried to be more ladylike but I find it so... Exhausting. And I find I can't properly focus in doing whatever I'm doing AND be clean and proper at the same time. It's one of the two... And sometimes not even that. I'm not really dignified, I suppose."
And that was the truth. Seraphina admired the composture Kaitlyn always had, but it also looked like something from other species. She felt a little inferior maybe... So she tried a different approach and focused on the drawings of landscape she was showing her. They were beautiful and peaceful. Serene. Pretty much like the artist. Seraphina's sketches since she arrived had been quick, raw takings on owls and cats, mostly.
"We never got around it, but you and Abby are muggle-borns, like me, right? I've been losing my mind over everything around here! There is ghost and poltergeist! And so many other things most people simply "understand". I feel like I need time to process it all and there's just not enough time! What is the thing that has shocked you more of the magical world so far?

Kaitlyn giggled at Seraphina’s response. “I don’t think you’re evil. At least, I don’t get that impression of you. You seem fun to be around, though,” she provided, with a smile. Her cheeks flushed at Seraphina’s comments about looking prim and proper. ‘I hope my appearance isn't making Seraphina feel bad,’ she thought. “I don’t think you should change for anyone. If they can’t accept you for who you are, are they really a friend of yours?” She provided. “And … um, I’m sorry if I’m making you feel bad,” she apologized.

Her blue eyes fell to the floor, before looking back at Seraphia. “May I be honest with you? One reason for why I’m dressed like this is because I lack confidence … I figured that if I dress well, no one should suspect that I have no confidence in myself,” she flushed, as she explained.

Kaitlyn took out some of her drawing supplies, and began her sketch of the landscpe in front of them. “Yes, we are. I know! And the ghosts … talk? I almost fainted when I heard the portraits talk. And the stairs move! I’m completely surprised by all of that, and more. I don’t blame you, I have a hard time understanding all of it myself. I thought it was a joke at first that magic was real … and well, here we are,” she giggled. “Do you like the house you were placed in?” She asked, wanting Serphina to feel more comfortable around her.

No! You're great! I mean... You don't make me feel uneasy, quite the contrary! I think you're cool! I'd like to be your friend! And I don't see why you should be insecure, either. Seraphina said forgetting her brush for a second. "As for the sorting... I'm happy I suppose. Hufflepuff's common room is super cozy, and even if I haven't made a lot of friends yet I suppose is great to be in a group of people who is friendly and loyal. I guess is not as flashy as any of the other houses, but is really peaceful there. I hope to meet more people and have kind of a big family away from from." That was the theory, anyway. In reality she hadn't make a single friend and started to feel like a failure. She was too boisterous perhaps. Or simply weird... She missed her home, her friends at her regular school and most of all her twin. But she hadn't have a lot to say about it at home, so now here she was. And if Hogwarts was going to be her life for seven years she'd better make it matter. "You know... I didn't want to come to Hogwarts at first. I'm not yet certain I'll fit in. I feel kind of an odd ball around here. But enough about me! How is Slytherin?"

Kaitlyn giggled and smiled brightly to Seraphina. “Thank you. And, I want to be your friend, too!” She exclaimed, happy to have found a friend. “I feel like I’m behind already, if you want the truth,” she replied, honestly.

As Seraphina talked about her house, Kaitlyn listened intently, and kept quiet. She nodded her head as her new friend talked, while gazing over the beautiful landscape. Once Seraphina was finished, Kaitlyn nodded again. “I have that same feeling. You already saw, I’m shy. It’s taking me a while to talk to a lot of them,” she conceeded. “I like your house. Friendly and loyal are two wonderful traits. I would’ve been proud to be sorted in your house,” she smiled to Seraphina. “And I honestly don’t understand why any of the other Hufflepuffs, or anyone else here for that matter, wouldn’t want to be your friend. You’ve been kind to me,” she tried to make Seraphina feel better.

Kaitlyn nodded to Seraphina’s statements. “Oh, I didn’t want to come either. Before I left to come here, I lost one of my best muggle friends, too, so I was in a weird headspace,” she continued. She smiled brightly to Seraphina’s statements about being an oddball. “I don’t think you’re odd. Your quirks make you unique. I have my own weirdness, too, as you have already seen,” she smiled. “Slytherin is … well, as you can guess, I’m having trouble making friends too. It feels weird being in my house, knowing that I’m a muggle-born, too,” she admitted with a shrug. “I have met a lot of nice Slytherins, though, so it isn’t all bad. I’m just shy … and well, I have trouble talking to others,” she continued.

It felt so soothing talking to Kaitlyn and drawing by the Hogwarts sunset. It was such a good moment Seraphina could almost imagine getting used to the weirdness of her new life. She observed for a while a couple of students flying in brooms over the lake and wondered if one day she would look so at ease in the castle. For the life of her she couldn't understand why her friend would be so shy. She looked so cool and collected... Seraphina was sure she was doing fine in school too. Probably she was just overwhelmed by the changes. And surely being in a house that didn't like muggle-borns wasn't easy.
"No-one is giving you a hard time because of your parents, are they? Because we can beat them up to pulp if they are" Seraphina has never participated in a fight other than with her siblings, but she wasn't going to stand by if someone was bullying her one new friend. She had read a lot about Hogwarts before she came here and surely there was a big part of history that didn't put the snake house in the better of lights, even if they had supposedly changed quite a bit after the Hogwarts battle.
