Fun? Exciting? I don’t know anymore…
I sighed, settling into the plush seat. Comfy, but that hardly mattered at this point. I was a new student going to a new school, at the start of a new school year, which was normal. What was un-normal, however, was finding out I was a freaking wizard! Like, seriously, this all seemed like a dream. Not one of those fun dreams, either. One of those, “oh wow! I’ve wanted this my whole life dreams!” Which quickly turned into, “oh holy mackerel! This isn’t so much fun as I thought!” Everything seemed like I was in a daze, I don’t even remember how I got here in the first place! Oh right. The “incident”. The principal’s office. The phone call. The blame. My parents. Oh god, my parents. How I wanted to hug them and beg them to not leave me while also strangling them. Well, mainly my dad. HE was the one who had lied to me and my mom all this time. HE was the reason I was here. Perhaps I’m being a bit unfair. Or perhaps I’m not. I think I’ll go with the latter option. My father, after the incident, had explained to me, and my mother, at the kitchen table, that he was a wizard. At this point I laughed, thinking he was playing a joke or telling a story to make me feel better. My mother laughed along, and smiled at him. She too thought he was playing a joke. My father, no matter how hard he tried, could never get my mother or I to believe him. Then came the letter. It explained that I was a magical person, a wizard, similar to the word my father had used. It also explained I needed books, clothes, and school materials, like a regular school. This, however, was anything but. Located in Scotland, it was exclusively for magical children, who would be accepted upon their first instance of magic. My father was the one to take me shopping. I had to use different currency, galleons, sickles, and knuts. So different from the currency of pounds. I bought the materials on the checklist, but also required a wand. Venturing up to a shop, I read the name. Ollivanders. A wandmaker, it seemed. One of the best. I purchased my wand from the kindly old man, and as I left, I fully looked at it. It looked like a stick. I was fairly certain it was a stick, until my father showed me his own. I was stunned. Next, there was the matter of transportation. You could never just drive up to the school, it was too magical. Not to mention muggles, or non-magical people, like my mom, could never see it or locate it. However, there was a train that took students to Hogwarts. It was at King’s cross station, Platform 9 3/4. I refused to believe such a platform exsisted. Platform 9, platform 10. No in between. Yet, somehow I had crossed the barrier, and soon found myself on the train. By myself. All alone. No friends, no family. No clue what to do. I wished someone would explain it all, tell me I was okay. Yet that hadn’t happened yet. I could always see people crossing by, but they never once glanced in my direction. I wished someone would see me, sit by me, acknowledge me.

Bailey couldn't believe that it was already the beginning of another school year. Her fourth, if you could believe it, at Hogwarts.
Bailey had enjoyed her summer break, spending time with her grandparents, parents, and brothers in Poland. Poland in the summer was gorgeous as ever, and she enjoyed being a 'normal' kid, as much as she could. She was getting older, and was saddened by the thought of her childhood slipping away. She had vowed to herself to never stop loving life, and she was doing her best to not get too serious, and not to take life too seriously.
Bailey hugged her parents goodbye one last time, and her brothers too, and then walked through the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10, to get to the legendary (to her at least) Platform 9 and 3/4.
She smiled upon seeing the vibrant scarlet red train in front of her, and all of the oddities that came with the Wizard's world - owls, toads, cats that were pets, giant trunks, prank toys that would put a muggle into a coma.
Entering the train Bailey decided that she'd just find a seat and that she'd go in search of @Kim Sato later. we'll have plenty of time to catch up later - let's see if i can make a new friend! bailey thought, smiling softly to herself.
entering a nearly empty compartment, Bailey smiled at who she presumed was a first year. "would it be ok if i sat with you in here?"
The first year nodded his head, and Bailey took that has a yes. Entering the compartment she smiled again - something she did a lot - and said "thank you!!". Sitting down, she waited a moment before beginning her introduction/questions. She knew she could be a lot, so she made sure to tell the first year that if needed they could totally tell her to stop talking.
"anyways, since we'll be sitting together for a bit, i might as well introduce myself! my name is bailey - bailey glade! I'm a fourth year this year, in Ravenclaw! i am a muggle born but honestly, most of the people i talk too - with the exception of kim's parents honestly - don't care about that! since i don't recognize you, im going to hazard a guess that this is your first year at hogwards?
When introducing her name, Bailey stuck out her hand for the firstie to take, if they wanted too. Bailey was no stranger to wizards looking at her odd because of that, but bailey didn't take that to heart - not at all.

Fun? Exciting? I don’t know anymore…
I was so deep in thought (and griping) that I didn’t even know how much time had passed. I opened my trunk, which was at my feet, looking for something to do. My hands felt the thin, smooth wood of the wand. I gingerly lifted it out of the trunk. I couldn’t believe that this little stick could (supposedly) wield so much power. I didn’t really believe it, it was probably all just some scientific experiment by the government to see how many kids would fall into the trap, how many kids wanted to delude themselves into thinking magic was real. I smiled, certain I had it all figured out. I wanted to test the fake wand, just to prove it wasn’t real, but at the same time I had a voice in the back of my head, Suppose it is real? What if it isn’t an experiment at all? I chuckled and tucked my wand away, laughing at my own naiveness. Of course it’s not real! Magic doesn’t exist. If magic exsisted, then why couldn’t everyone go around waving wands and whatnot? Why all this secrecy? The letter? If magic was real, why couldn’t everyone use it? I concluded that this must be a secret experiment, but for what? Mind control? No, that was just as stupid as everything else, including the idea that special kids were going to a “magic” school. Yet this all seemed so real. Everyone I met seemed to think it was actually all around us. Even that old man, Ollivanders, treated the wand like it was real. Well, no doubt he was a paid actor, paid by the government. Then again, what if he believed every word he said? What if it really WAS mind control? I had to get out of here! Scrambling, I packed everything in my trunk and reached for the door compartment handle? Before I could react, an older woman, pushing a trolley of sweets, passed in front of me. “Anything from the trolley, dear?” I froze, frantic with panic. Oh no! “N-no t-thank you! I was umm…j-just stretching my legs!” A lame excuse, but I was terrified she was some sort of ninja lady. She passed on, and I sat down again. I looked out the window with increasing dread. Everyone here must be an actor, and I needed to escape. But how? Even I somehow snuck out, I had nowhere to go. I decided I would play along, going along with the experiment. If they wanted me to believe, I would believe. Just then, the compartment door opened again, and this time a girl with blond hair stepped in. She asked if she could sit, and I responded with a friendly smile, and said, “Yes, please come in!” She sat down, and began talking to me. Her name was Bailey, and she was a “fourth-year” at “Hogwarts”. I listened, but at the same time wasn’t really paying attention. I had questions, but waited until she finished speaking. I then pulled my wand out, handed it to her, and said with a smirk, “Ok, so you go to Hogwarts? Then what does this do?” I tapped the wand. “Also, you said you were ‘muggle-born’. What’s a muggle? Is it a job here?”

Bailey ultimatly decided she was glad she had entered the compartment with the first year in it.
Sitting, she finished talking, and unsurprisingly the firstie had questions. Bailey didn't mind - she honestly was glad to answer any questions anyone had.
The first year was clearly skeptical, and honestly bailey understood. She had been too, in the beginning.
He handed her his wand, and asked what it did. Bailey handed the boy his wand back, and took her own out from her pocket. "that's your wand - and this is mine!" Holding her wand up to the light, she explained "i have a blackthorn wand, with dragon heartstring, 28 centimeters. Olivander said it was 'whippy' which apparently means it can adapt between different complex spells and such easily. This is how we perform magic - its a conduit of sorts, to help us control our powers."
Bailey wished she could show the first year some magic, but she knew that it was against the rules, and she was NOT getting a detention. So she settled for an explanation. "different incantations help us perform different spells, in different areas of magic - i'd show you one except I am decently sure that magic is not allowed on the express, and I really don't want to get detention...".
Taking a breath, she then continued to talk, this time explaining what a muggle was. "muggle isn't a job, it just refers to someone who has two non magic parents. Both of my parents didn't have magic, but i do. it's something with the combination of magic and having enough in your blood... its a little complicated. but anyways, there are muggle borns, there are people with one parents with magical blood - a witch or wizard, and one with no magic, and then there are people with two magical parents. If all of your family is magic, and has been since forever, you're a 'pureblood'. A lot of purebloods can be a bit... uptight, but there aren't many kids at school who are like that. My best friend Kim is a pureblood, and his parents are super uptight i guess, but he's super social and stuff... at least when he's not kinda depressed.." bailey got a little softer here, her demeanor changing into a slightly sadder one.
She brightened then, only slightly forced. "do you have any more questions? what's your name?"

Fun? Exciting? I don’t know anymore…
I listened to everything Bailey had to say, still a bit uncertain. I thought back to something I saw, something about Jesus…oh yeah, it was something about how Jesus was either a liar, a lunatic, or the Son of God. Well, Bailey didn’t look like she was lying, she looked completely sane, so I guess she was telling the truth? I breathed out, rubbing my temples. If she was telling the truth, it was a VERY strange one. I listened intently to the bit about doing magic with your wand, but she didn't demonstrate and I didn't ask her to. I remembered to look up at her, just so she would know I was listening. I tried to figure out anything else about this place, but all I could see was that it was an old-fashioned steam train, not one of the modern ones on the Underground. I wished I could text my friends about this place, tell them how strange it was but……I felt my pocket. No phone there. Damn. I couldn’t believe I left my phone! How was I going to talk to my family? I scowled, but then looked up again, and gave Bailey a smile. She explained the meaning of the world, “muggle”, someone who couldn’t do magic. That must mean my mom was one. I didnt like the sound of that, it sounded almost like a slur. The term pure blood, that sounded a bit snooty. Weren’t we all the same? I didnt know what to call myself, nor did I care. I was just Bailey. I thought back to what those bullies at my school would say. Surely they would like to think they were pure blood, above everyone else. I suddenly heard her mention a name. Kim. Her friend, it seemed, I noticed she looked a bit sad when she mentioned his depression, and I wasn’t sure what to do. I wanted to make her feel better, bit I wasn’t sure how. I was relieved when she looked a bit happier, and asked my name. I cringed inwardly, realizing I had forgotten to introduce myself. “Oh, I’m Bailey. I guess that’s cool…we have the same name?” I cringed, obviously this time. Real slick. Talking to girls has never been my strong suit. The only females I could talk comfortably to was my mom and…….Thalia. Thalia wasn’t a girlfriend, she was more like a sister. At least, she used to be. Until she got sick. And then….I cleared, my head, and wiped my eyes. I couldn’t think about her right now. I asked softly, and perhaps nervously, “Um….so, if kids are seen differently based on their parents, do we get bullied for it? I’m not born pure, my mom’s a muggle and my dad is the wizard.”

Bailey did her best to explain the complexities of the magical world in a way the first year would be able to understand - she knew that she had been EXTREMELY confused. The first year looked at her as she spoke, which she appreciated - it showed that he was at least trying to understand, something that probably was not the easiest.
Explaining about the blood status felt weird to bailey - to some (Very few, but still some) people at school (or their parents) , she was 'lesser' in their eyes because of her so called 'blood purity' being tainted. She did not care, and honestly wished that people would quit caring about blood so much.
Bailey asked the first year his name, and to her surprise, his answer was 'bailey'. Bailey smiled at this and said "if i'm honest, i don't think there is another bailey that i've met at hogwarts - i'm quite glad that i am not the only one anymore!"
Bailey nodded, listening to bailey's question. "there are very few people who are students at hogwarts that still judge people based on their blood purity. there are quite a few parents who are a bit 'uppity' and 'snooty' but the kids are good about it for the most part. i don't think i've seen anyone bullied about their blood purity, but if you ever do, let me know and i'll have a ..... word with that person."
Bailey paused for a second, and then smiled again, a bit sheepishly. "i won't hurt them - unless i really need to - i don't like hurting people. most people know who i am... and i have some friends too, who can be.... intimidating if needed. that shouldn't ever really be needed though."
Bailey did her best to comfort bailey about his blood purity, continuing speaking. "i haven't been bulled ever, for my blood purity. and i'd honestly be at a higher risk of being bullied, as both of my parents are muggles."
Bailey glanced out the window at the rolling landscape. "the thing people pick fights about most often is who is the monthly house cup winner, or who's house is best. though most people - definitely me - have lots of good friends in the other houses!"
