Kaitlyn strode into the library. Other than the Slytherin Common Room, and by extension her dorm, this was one of her favorite places at Hogwarts. Surrounded by a lot of old and dusty tombs, and yet newer ones as well. It was a reprieve from the hustle and bustle of navigating around the castle. She felt the most comfortable sitting amonst these books, peering through the pages. While not always the most interesting, the books contained a wealth of knowledge.

Despite only being a first year, Kaitlyn had a favorite seat in the library, already. It was a table placed behind a few shelves, near the back of the library. Even on days the library was busy, this section rarely filled up. Most students didn’t even bother to go there. It was a perfect spot for such an introverted girl. She weaved her way to her favorite, secluded spot, and immediately sat down in a chair, fixing her skirt as she did so. She placed her bag down at her feet, and took out her Charms homework, parchment, a quill, and her inkwell.

Kaitlyn opened her Charms textbook to the relevant page, dipped her quill in the ink, and began to write her Charms essay. Her handwriting was neat and cursive, with little hearts over the i’s. She paid no attention to what was going on around her.

Celeste wandered down into the library, ready for an escape from the overwhelming experience of wizardry. She wanted to bury into the tomes stacked neatly on the walls, she wanted to read and savor every word that might make her fit it at this wondrous school.

Barely anyone was in here, she spotted a couple giggling Hufflepuff girls in one corner, a blonde Gryffindor boy leaning against a shelf and reading in another. Celeste's turquoise eyes met the high shelves stationed with little reading desk peppered in, each packed to the brim with books. Celeste took a deep breath of air, air smelling like parchment, and her bubbly nerves calmed suddenly. She knew that it was just plain irony to be a Ravenclaw in love with books, but she couldn't help it. She roamed between two shelves and ran her fingers down the old, leathery spines.

She read the titles as she walked, curiously questioning A Study on Werewolves and Vampires by Gandius Smander and briefly considering The Wandmaker on Fifth Street by Colette Fang. Every rustle of a page was like an old friend waving her over. Finally, being a fantasy-lover at heart, Celeste pulled From the Back of the Dragon by Vinarus Codwell from the shelves.

She roamed to the back of the library, looking for a nook to read in, a place to hole away and read Vinarus's story for hours on end. She could easily complete her essay on the properties of wolfsbane in potion making tonight, settled underneath the breathtaking view of the lake from the Ravenclaw common room's window, the stone gaze of Rowena Ravenclaw forever set on her.

She found her way behind a few shelves and found a little nook, serene and peaceful- other than the scratching of a quill from a neatly outfitted Slytherin girl in the corner.

Celeste saw immediately at the school how Slytherins were considered mean or bad in the society and felt bad for them; she was rather kind and was almost put in Slytherin. The girl with bright blue eyes scribbling away in neat handwriting about the Wingardium Leviosa spell on her paper looked kind enough, so she took a deep breath and said, "Hello. I'm Celeste. What's your name?"

Best wishes,

Topaz had ended all of her classes, which only meant one thing going to the library! She loved the library, a calm and relaxing place where she could concentrate and be calm. After all, she did have one big test that she had to study for. Topaz was very smart and intelligent. Most students would not come to the library but Topaz would come just about every day.

Topaz had always loved the neatly organized books all in perfect rows. She always had gotten more than 5 books. Topaz would never have an overdue book. There were just about ten other students there but that was it. Topaz wished she knew at least one more person there but she did not. She saw one girl doing her homework and a few other boys chatting even though the library is supposed to be a quiet place and another girl wandering around looking for books.

Topaz pulled out her test review. She could not find the answer in the data she collected earlier so she got up and looked for some books which were: Magical Theory, The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection, and Book of Spells. They were so much more helpful than the others at least.

Topaz had heard a girl say to another "Hello. I'm Celeste. What's your name?" Topaz went over and tried to see what was going on, after all, she had no friends there so Topaz said "Hi I am Topaz, what's your name?"

As Kaitlyn worked on her Charms essay, thoughts danced through her mind. ‘Don’t forget to do your third revision from yesterday’s Potions class, and the second revision from today’s Herbology classes,’ her mind reminded her. She enjoyed being on top of her work. She honestly felt at home among books. If she could, she’d spend all day in the library. Or tucked into her bed in her dorm with one of the few muggle books she brought with her to the castle. She’d have to remember to bring more muggle books at some point.

Kaitlyn just finished a sentence in her essay when she heard a girl’s voice. She jumped slightly in her chair and looked up from her essay, placing her ink infused quill no where near her work. Her blue eyes trained on the girl who greeted her. Before she could say anything, another girl greeted her and Celeste. ‘Oh so many girls,’ she thought. Her cheeks flushed that she was greeted by both of them. She learned her throat awkwardly and looked down at the table.

After a few beats, Kaitlyn raised her head to look at both girls. “H-hi. I’m Kaitlyn Connor. I-it’s nice t-to meet y-you, Celeste … Topaz,” she said, saying each girl’s name clearly, and looking each respective girl in her eyes. Being a muggleborn student, she didn’t know anyone there.
