Connected with her anxiety, Kaitlyn often had negative thoughts about her self-confidence and about how other people perceived her. This was why she constantly thought her presence bothered people or inconvenienced them somehow. Such as how she thought she was wasting Tracey’s time. As much as she knew that Tracey was her friend, she also thought that she wasn’t helping the situation. It was a weird balancing act.

The part Kaitlyn did not understand, was why she was blushing so much around Tracey. It felt weird. Once she felt comfortable around someone, she didn’t blush as much. At least she wasn’t playing with her hair, anymore. She flushed again at Tracey’s comment about being a study buddy. “Aw, thanks. Um … I’m usually not that busy. I tend to schedule in my own studying time, as well,” she pointed out, quietly.

Kaitlyn nodded to Tracey’s thoughts about a pet. “Yes. It does take time, unfortunately. I’ll get one soon,” she giggled. “Aw, how could any creature not like you? You’re a great person,” she replied with a smile. Plus, Tracey took great care of Tiger.

Katie nodded again, as Tracey mentioned about studying. “Yes, I agree,” she responded. She gave a smile to Tiger, then flipped open her textbook to a section on the bouncing bulbs. “Might as well be the beginning? The bouncing bulbs?” She offered with a smile to Tracey.

As much as Kaitlyn felt lost and confused at Hogwarts, her current ambition was to find friends. As much as she’d admit that she liked girls, that wasn’t at the forefront of her mind. She glanced over at Tracey. She considered Tracey a friend, a good friend for that matter, despite how little time they actually knew each other. She could tell the friend vibes Tracey let off. Besides, she wasn’t attracted to Tracey in that way. She was also well aware that most girls didn’t like other girls in that way. Her blushing was more embarrassment on her part. Embarrassed for her friend to see her insanely particular note-taking, how much effort she put into making a good set of notes, and just overall how bad of a student she was. Magic did not come easily for her, and she felt like she was behind. As such, she completely lacked confidence.

Kaitlyn visibly brightened. “Yes, please. I’m intrigued by that room, and I’d like to practice spells together,” she replied with a smile. She wasn’t particularly attached to this room of requirement, but her curiosity got the better of her. It sounded like it was fun to find, too. She smiled at Tracey’s comments about Tiger. “Oh, sweet. It’s very good then that you and Tiger are so similar,” she agreed.

At Tracey’s next words, Kaitlyn flushed bright red. Ugh, how could she be so stupid? Clearly, she was a horrible study buddy. “Ugh, I can’t believe I forgot that one!” She moaned. She went to open her textbook to the appropriate page on mandrakes and changed her notes to the first lesson. “You can tell I need a study buddy, huh?” She giggled, trying to make light of her mistake. “I actually enjoyed this lesson. Grabbing the mandrake by the leaves … I guess it’s similar to strands of hair of a baby? And transferring it to another pot. It just felt so weird with them wiggling about,” she shuddered.

While they had only just met, Kaitlyn considered Tracey to be one of her best friends. Definitely one of the few girls she interacted with a lot. If she had to be honest, she felt like she needed that in her life. Coming to Hogwarts meant that she lost the friend group she had at St. Ann’s boarding school. While it would take a long time to replace them in her mind, having friends like Tracey helped to partially fill the void. She’d have to remember to give something to Tracey for Valentine’s Day to mark their friendship.

When Tracey mentioned Tiger, Kaitlyn nodded. “I don’t blame you. I don’t know much about the room, but it may not be a good idea to bring a pet there. At least, in my opinion. Aw, that’s cute that he’s so young,” she smiled brightly. All the more she wanted to get a pet. She saw how much Tracey loved Tiger. She hoped to get a pet and have such a loving relationship with it.

Kaitlyn nodded silently to Tracey’s words. She still felt bad though. While it wasn’t a contest, she did pride herself with her notes. The fact that she wasn’t as organized as it seemed made her upset. She needed to do a better job, for her own sake. “I have a twin sister, Abigail, and a younger brother, Timothy,” she explained to Tracey’s question. “As to what it is like, I mean, I guess my siblings provide that extra cushion so I don’t feel so lonely, or alone. Thankfully, I’m not socially awkward around them, so they kind of feel safe to me, if that makes any sense,” she shrugged. She never fought with her siblings, either.

Kaitlyn was happy to be friends with Tracey. The Ravenclaw girl seemed very knowledgeable about almost everything to do with magic. It made her feel special that her classmate would even want to spend time with her, considering how she was poor at magic. Then again, she only just learned about magic not too long ago, after having lived most of her life so far as a muggle. She personally didn’t see an issue with that, and she hoped that most of the other students wouldn’t care.

When Tracey mentioned Tiger, Kaitlyn giggled and nodded. “Aw, that’s good. It should be easier for him to listen to you, then. And, yes, that will be awesome for Tiger to come … really for anything that we’re doing. I know I don’t mind. When I get my own pet, I’ll bring mine, too,” she promised. She noticed that Tracey’s hair changed from blonde to pink. She giggled and nodded. “It looks great!” She responded.

“I guess … Some of the girls at the boarding school I went to didn’t like their siblings … Or I’d see them fighting in the hallway. Abigail and I get along well, and we both get along with Timothy,” she continued with a shrug. She giggled as she looked over at Tiger. “Yes, I can tell that you have a good relationship with Tiger. I hope to have a good one with whatever pet I eventually get,” she mused with a bright smile.

Ever since arriving at Hogwarts, Kaitlyn was overwhelmed with magic, its implications, and trying to learn her abilities. Not a single thought was yet to be spent on what she may want to do in the future. Or what the possibilities held for her. As only a first year, she had many years before that would become an issue anyway. But, before she was ripped from the muggle world, one aspect that she liked was to help people. When not frozen in shy fear, she liked to be valued and asked her opinion.

Kaitlyn giggled at Tracey’s statement, thinking of how cute it would look for two animals to play together. “I agree. It will likely look so cute! Ooh, I hope not. I’d love to take any pet I’m allowed to adopt wherever I want to,” she nodded. It would allow her pet to get exercise and hopefully allow her pet to meet other pets. Being in the dungeons, it wouldn’t be as difficult to let out a pet to play. She giggled again when Tracey mentioned her hair and nodded. “Nice. I’m sure the colors will compliment you just right,” she offered with a friendly smile.

At Tracey’s words, Kaitlyn shrugged a little. “I guess it must be weird that we didn’t fight, but I don’t remember any. I once got into an argument with Abigail, but it wasn’t anything serious. Ooh, I’m sorry to hear that you cannot visit your mum’s side of the family. It must be rough,” she replied sympathetically. At the mention of the pet, she giggled. “Thanks, I hope so, too. In case you haven’t noticed, I’m very excited,” she giggled.
