Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
The lion winced as his gaze drifted to his petrified team mates. This definitely was less than ideal. Somehow he would have to turn this around. His mind was torn between taking action and defending himself. If only he could do both. A spell sprung to his mind and his execution was quick and he pulled all his power and hope into one single spell. He needed to be kept in the game, they could not afford for all three of them to be paused so of course Alan would have to make this work for him somehow. On cue a shield of magic pulsed around him, thrumming with arcane energy, thinly webbed and while seemingly invisible there was almost a sheen of light, a distortion in the air. So when Astrea threw a spell at him, the shield spat it right back at her with such speed and guidance there was no hope for evading it. Her wand flew out of her hand and clattered to the floor beneath their feet. Well and Alan? He felt accomplished. Perhaps doing both had been in the realm of possibility all along, after all.

Her decision to point her wand up rather than at Alan was part instinct, part split-second observation. The beginnings of the letter p, the vertical slash, all tiny details that merged with her understanding of strategy--Alan knew they couldn't aim for his teammates, only for him. So while Astrea's spell met an unfortunately strong shield, chasing off her own wand, Bridget created clouds.
She was herself surprised by how soon that familiar ominous crackle gathered and struck, white light reaching for Galton in a blink as he was only just regaining his feet. It was fortuitous timing, at least, maybe enough of a distraction to lend her some aid. Because with Astrea disarmed and Dmitri still bound, now the numbers advantage was going the other way. Her versus them.

At least he couldn’t be targeted. Laying there petrified, summoning any muscles to break the stone-stiff hold that had taken over, you couldn’t help but appreciate the small victories. Like the fact that they weren’t allowed to shoot spells at targets that couldn’t escape.
Then he heard Bridget’s incantation. He felt the electricity around him. Of course a duelist of this level would know the one loophole to targeting them. His struggling quickened as he felt his hair start to stand, caught in the cloud’s static.
Just as he wiggled his toes and began to pull himself up it struck. A jolt that left his heart pumping ten time faster than it had been. The best type of adrenaline one could imagine. “Alright - that feels a little cheap but I guess butterbeer is on the line.” He’d shout over to the Vipers.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
It was clear that she had been too ambitious as her spell rebounded against a stellarly cast shield charm much in the same way that their opponents’ spells did last round. Bridget’s freshly conjured Meteleojinx had found its first victim, but with the steep price of yet another duellist’s incapacitation. It was only a product of seniority’s prudence that Astrea, an unapologetic victim of ambition, found herself disarmed and seemingly vulnerable for the first time in many years.
Her meticulously carved cherry wood wand was forced just out of reach, yet the Vipers could not be without their backup plans. Only truthful grimness trailed this avoidable, insignificant cost, as worry mattered little in the name of both instinctual and trained skill alone. As three of the same crop, Astrea did not doubt that Bridget, ever capable, could handle the pressure. Surely, this mere element of unpredictability was what drove them to continue pursuing this dangerous extracurricular, as the push and pull of advantage saw no better example than in Hogwarts’ best.

The tides had certainly turned - the Gryffindors were on their feet, Dmitri was tied up and struggling against the ropes that bound him, and Astrea had lost her wand...Jake watched her eyes as she spotted it and reached forward to try to reach it!! But just then her legs would fly out from under her, sending her down to the platform! A perfectly-timed trip jinx by Meenauh would send Astrea to the ground, definitely buying the Gryffindors some time!
Galton wasn't going to miss his chance - both him and Meenauh had been taken out of the fight and had worked hard to get back to their feet. The time to act was now... Galton waved his wand....and unleashed one of the most powerful wind jinxes that Jake had ever seen! The Gryffindors were determined to fight hard and even the score, and Jake watched in awe and amazement, as gusts of wind covered the whole platform! No one was safe. Jake braced himself as he watched the gusts head for every one of Galton's opponents. The gale was so powerful that the storm clouds hovering over the Gryffindors began to drift back towards the Slytherins - Dmitri would feel the burst of the gusts as he continued to struggle with his bonds...but poor Astrea didn't have a chance after Meenauh's trip. The wind would buffet into her, driving her backwards...
Bridget, the only one to escape the gusts tried to keep the momentum on their side - she shot a blasting curse right at Meenauh! The Gryffindor girl was able to dodge out of the way - though not without feeling some of the splinters that rocketed through the air. Alan's wand seemed to be pointed towards Astrea, but whatever he had been trying to cast, Jake didn't know because his wand didn't cooperate. But the Gryffindors had certainly rallied, this was still anybody's game, and only one of the snakes could cast.

An unfortunate turn of events for the Slytherin unfolded right in front of Dmitri's eyes. Astrea stumbling on her way to her wayward wand, Bridget missing her target of a nonetheless-fine Confringo by a narrow margin, and of course, himself, still bound as always.
A lesser duelist might lament and grieve at what many might call a losing battle, but Slytherin (especially Dmitri's team) has proven time and time again that the battle does not end as long as he was standing.
As for then, the boy let the opposing team celebrate their small wins...

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
How dangerous did the Gryffindors believe the Vipers to be, if they were so willing to indefinitely incapacitate instead of injure? Even the crackling lightening clouds could not create further risk, evident by their enemies’ efforts to transfer the weather-changing spell across the piste back and forth. With a continually capped time limit for duels, every round’s actions were worth their weight in gold — which is why the humiliating inconvenience of a trip jinx tilting Astrea’s attention had not only interrupted her from retrieving her wand, but had also put her directly in the way of a gust of wind.
Had she even a sliver of Dmitri’s hubris, perhaps she would have acknowledged the near-unanimous opponent decision to keep her incapable of casting as sheer proof of her sheer potential threat. But as it was, Astrea — ever recognized as a particularly solemn duellist — could only silently work to strengthen team morale in the endless fight towards duelling domination.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1

The spells did a very good job, the cloud was off, Astrea was down (not fully, but at least tripping), Dmitri was still bound. Meenauh nodded internally as if some weird set of events played in their favour, not like that was the strategy or something.
She noticed a glint in Bridget's eyes (or at least she interpreted it as intention), and braced herself for a jump. But Confringo?! Jumping away by just an inch from the whole explosion, she was still hurt by splinters. Being her friend (she assumed) and a professional (she assumed) duellist, she knew how to treat it. It was a game, and she'd play equally.
She smiled at her, getting back on her feet properly, and shrugged the dust off her shoulders. Then made a small curtsey, signalling that the game was on.

Alan stood prepared for the rest of the duel, knowing they could not celebrate a victory early. They had to keep thinking strategically and try to secure a proper victory. Glancing at his partners who were at the very least back to normal, it gave him some more calm to know thhey would be able to move on normally now.

Slytherin vs Gryffindor: Match 1
It had been a while since he'd nailed a spell so spectacularly. Ventus was, debating, his favorite spell - casting it felt so calming. He would envision the the surrounding air's movement, the subtle flow moving here to there, see himself weaving the current towards his wand and away. And he'd done that perfectly. He felt as if he his wand had been a leaf carried through the sky.
No matter the outcome of the duel, he would have solace in that moment. The feeling of being perfectly in tune with the duel. Now to see if he could stay there.
