Only a Ravenclaw would be rewarded with... Errand

Bloom Silverton, apparently the deviant of House Ravenclaw was familiar at least to some extent with detention. Detention often involved manual labor be it heavy lifting or deep scrubbing. Scrubbing the owlry seemed to be her plan. It was a thought worthy of consideration, but he had to wonder if it would be enough. Cleaning is something the house elves did all of the time, they were content enough doing this day in and day out. No, there needed to be something that could be done that would result in more than a bit of sweat on their brow. They needed to reconsider their actions because the consequences of their actions could have gotten themselves or worse yet another student killed.

Bloom was on the right path.

«I support the idea of them cleaning up after the owls. Seems like a fair deal in my opinion».

Another Ravenclaw announced with her hand raised. River Dewlight, the ginger Ravenclaw. It seemed as if they were coming to a consensus that it was going to involve cleaning.

"You're both right," Solomon replied thoughtfully. But he wanted something to shame them a bit.

"I think they should polish the candelabra lining the Ravenclaw stairwell. Every single one, without magic."

Phaedra Stavrou recommended taking Bloom's notion one step further. That was better, something in their house and in service of others.

"Or... since some of them are already in the Hospital Wing... They may as well clean out the bedpans of any injured Ravenclaw for a week. Once they've healed enough themselves, of course."

Phaedra added. Bedpans usually are not something that they usually allow to sit, filled to the brim until they were emptied. However, little did Solomon know, the hospital wing would soon be filled with numerous residents. Bathroom duty, bedroom cleaning, candelabra polishing... Seems like the penalty would be cleaning the Ravenclaw living quarters. A humbling act of service to others. Their scuffle was over some sort of spat, be it between friends or rivals or something else entirely was irrelevant. They would have to work together to accomplish their goals and the Ravenclaws themselves would not be exiled from their quarters during their period of punishment. They would have to band together, at least temporarily to accomplish their task or endure whatever consequences their peers would dole out.

"As expected of Ravenclaws, you're brilliant," Solomon commended them for their... sadism. Yes, apparently so.

The dutiful second year Bloom Silverton would flip a table. It was heavy, the girl would strain herself doing so more than likely. Onto its side first and then onto all four legs. The table was still sturdy, intact if not a bit scuffed from the incident. The table likely weighed as much as the little girl. Her success was something worthy of celebrating.

Celynne Gray had decided to gather some of the fallen tomes. There were so many of them, many of them undamaged but some of them were ripped, their spines cracked, pages dislodged or pages folded on top of themselves. There were a number of fascinating books:
  • The cooking greats: Helga Auldburn's guide to magically roasting the perfect Thanksgiving dinner.
  • Magically mixing a cake with Archibald Alderton.
  • Rorden Gamsey: Making Mealtime Magical
  • The Tuna of Certainity: Magical Fish and How to Use Them
While Celynne stacked books, River Dewlight would find some masking tape and start repairing some of the damaged books left to the side. Muggle devices such as masking tape are difficult to use, difficult to master. So sticky and so strong. Still she would pull a length of tape from the roll and then press the silvery tape along the spine of the book or used to tape a ripped page from a book back inside.

River would save several books, including classics such as:
  • Handsome Wizards of the 1970's
  • The Fashionable Metamorphmagus
  • A Fashionista's Guide to Magical Balls
  • Beauty Treatments for Those That Cannot Transmute a Fairer Face
  • Getting Buff in the Buff [This last one likely belonged in a different part of the library]
Allie Jones would take to her own pile of books. Book repair being a familial forte of sorts. While some flipped tables and piled like books, Allie stacked books with a different purpose: how damaged were these books and how much TLC would they require. She was making progress, doing some good work. She would find a clean surface -- the table Bloom Silverton had turned right side up. Bloom would start repairing some of the more damaged books, at least making them roughly resemble books using the miracle of tape.

They found a few books in need of repair such as:
  • Victory Gardens and Witches
  • Flowers and Their Meaning
  • Looking for Love: Alternatives to Amortentia
  • Herbalist Remedies
  • Storage Solutions for Harvested Blooms
Ariella Paige would sift through the books. There had to be thousands of books on the floor, hundreds from the bookshelf that Ariella had was sifting through. These books were spotted with blood. The Slytherin's blood. Being crushed by a bookshelf was not a painless nor was it a clean process. The blood here could have just as easily have been hers. She was fortunate.

Ariella took the large, leather-bound book that was likely to be Erin's weapon of violence against Ariella before Thomas knocked it away. The book, stolen from the library would be slipped into the Ravenclaw's bag.

Phaedra Stavrou would start stacking like books. Arithmomancy in one stack, another stack illusionary magics. There were some interesting titles among the ones she had ordered. While these books might not appear to belong adjacent, they did. These books all had the same author: Martha Rogers or inspired by the theorist. A fascinating study for the young woman one day if she ever wanted to understand the Rogerian theory of the unitary human.

Samna Moore would take part in the clean-up, or at the very least she would try. It was hard being the new-girl and not having a lot of friends. Especially when your friend is distracted. Samna would participate in the clean-up. Taping together a table was a good start. Flipping a table, well that was not quite so easy. She might have mastered the use of muggle tape but she did not have the mightiness of a fifth year.

That was until she noticed HIM. Yes, he looked like he had just rolled out of bed and that he should be serenading Samna rather than offering a helping hand. Well, she asked for help first. He was a Ravenclaw, a year older than her. He did not say much but he was seen often in the Ravenclaw common room. He was fun to look at, sadly he has never said a word.

"E-excuse me. Could you maybe h-help me with this table over here?"

She stammered.

Donnavan Periwinkle was his name, a mixed blood born of Muggle parents. It made him a bit of a standout a times, the first in a number of generations in his direct line. He had little to say in a place so far removed from the world he once knew. Donnavan gave Samna a wide lovely white smile. It would seem as if he was not going to break his silent game just yet. He did not say a word but he nodded his acknowledgement to her request as he walked around to the other side of the table and gripped the lip of the table. He would wait for Samna to grip the other side, if/when he did so he would nod his head to the left to indicate that was where he wished to turn the table until it was turned top-side up.

If they worked together they would succeed and Donnovan would give Samna a wink as the four legs of the table were settled into the floor. Well, it was either a wink or a prolonged twitch of only a single eye. Who knows.

This was when chaos started to break out.

Whatever moment Samna was about to have with the incredibly handsome mute would come to an end when Ariella Paige found the first broken child. Apparently there was a body underneath those books that was not recovered only feet from the where Ariella and the Headmaster were. Only feet from where Erin was extracted. An unfortunate, badly hurt student who was left injured and unconscious beneath a pile of books. The bookshelf was already pulled upright in an effort to extract the injured potential perpetrator for medical treatment.

"Professor Lear! We have um... how do I put this?"

She was pulling a young Gryffindor out from under the books. The Girl was beaten and bloodied, pale and unconscious. Her arm was broken, this was obvious because it was bent the wrong way. Solomon's gut dropped to his feet. He was certain that there was nobody else in the library, at the very least nobody in the immediate vicinity. He was certain! However, he was certain no longer. A profanity too terrible to repeat escaped the Headmaster's lips. Meanwhile Samna Moore's silent friend would run towards the badly injured Gryffindor and listen for a heart-beat.

"I aint no doc'ta," Donnovan announced in a rather heavily accented voice as he pressed his ear to the injured girl's chest. "But I thinks I gots a heartbeat ov'er here," well that might be why Donnovan did not talk so much. "Someone help me carry 'er to th Hospitile Wing." It seemed like his voice was of no particular concern at the moment, the broken student was.

"Someone help the boy out!" Solomon shouted, his eyes already on Celynne Gray.

Celynne Gray would find a second victim, this one a Slytherin buried beneath books. She was in even worse shape than the Gryffindor that Ariella had uncovered. The bookshelf was not lifted from this site as quickly as it had been lifted from Ariella's site. The bookshelf itself was still overturned. Lifted from the floor only by the next overturned bookshelf. That was likely the only reason that the girl was still alive but she was nearly crushed. A blanket of books covered the unfortunate soul.

"There's another one over here." Celynne called out, splitting the attention of the other students that were searching. This was Solomon's worst nightmare come to life. "There could be others in the area. Someone should check." Celynne reasoned. She was right, there were likely others. A slightly modified string of 'bad words' would escape the Headmaster's lips. He would approach the second body, well victim. The kids were definitely still alive because they were still breathing, but for how long?

"Someone get a doctor!" Solomon shouted as he started to lift the bookshelf that pinned the young girl's lower body that was still covered with books and pinned the girl to the floor. "Merlin, these kids are going to suffer..." Solomon muttered out loud but that was meant to be an internal thought. "Come to think of it, bring her to the Medical Wing," Solomon grunted as he tried to continue to brace the exceedingly heavy bookshelf. "Quickly!"

Phaedra Stavrou would start searching through the piles of books. She would find a fellow Ravenclaw boy, of course a rather handsome despite the fact that he had sustained several injuries. His name was "hunky" Hank Henderson and well, even beat to high heck he was still probably the prettiest thing in the room.

His hair was mussed up a bit, he had a bruised head and probably ego. He would let out a groan, being roused to consciousness when Phaedra came near and try to sit up. He was not pinned beneath a great shelf at the very least, he was likely clocked in the back of the head and he went down like a ton of bricks with a minor concussion. He would sit up, books would fall off of his upper body and the room would spin. "A-am I dead? A-are you an angel?" He would grimace, his arm was sprained it would seem. "What happened?"

Were there any others buried in the library beneath those books. Thankfully not.

Whilst the Ravenclaws endeavored to help reorganize the library it would seem that their efforts had transitioned to that of a rescue mission.

Everyone was waiting for Lear's instructions. Dymphna took a moment to give Bloom a friendly smile, noticing a few other familiar house mates were joining them - Phaedra and Celynne. It was a bit strange to the blonde, seeing them all together outside of their usual spaces; those being the Common Room and the Newspaper office. There were quite a few first-years turning up as well, some she had met briefly but otherwise hadn't spoken with. The library clean up seemed to be a perfect chance to change that.

As much as Dymphna was curious to know what happened to their precious library, she wasn't one to listen to gossip. Though it did take her a moment or two to turn away from Ariella's story. The words Erin and Hufflepuff caught her attention. No wonder the whole situation was a mess. Everything that she heard about the Slytherin was unpleasant. Her dislike of the other girl had started early on in their first-year after Erin was disrespectful towards one of the Professors.

And... could the Hufflepuff be Reid? That was something to investigate later. Her friend did end up in the Hospital Wing more times that she was comfortable with. She shot Bloom a worried look, wondering if she heard more of the conversation or if she was thinking the same thing. ... Right. Focus. Turning back to the Headmaster, she listened to his question to them all. They were going to chose the fate of the wrong-doers? She may be slightly angry at them for the situation but now knowing that Erin was there... Well, it was harder to be upset with the others involved.

Thankfully, others spoke up with their own ideas of punishment. Cleaning the bedpans seemed an awful enough punishment on it's own. Dymphna made a face at Phaedra's suggestion then turned to see that Bloom had joined her. Others were already getting to work, not seeming to be too overwhelmed by the amount of work their was to do. "You're a lifesaver," Dymph replied quickly, looking to see if there was anything that would take more than one person to do. She wasn't the strongest, so maybe just dealing with the books for now?

Bodies were being found! Dymphna couldn't believe it. If she didn't see it with her own eyes, she wouldn't have. As the injured students were taken off to the Hospital Wing, the blonde made up her mind to help with the book clean up. After making quite a few stacks, organized in a way that she thought was nice but in a way that would make them harder to sort later (by color), she turned to see that Bloom was cleaning elsewhere. There was a concern about her relationship with Ben but she didn't know how to bring it up, if at all. Were they close enough that Bloom would want to share her thoughts on Ben being the Masked Man during their first year?

As she was about to make her way over, her elbow hit the edge of a massive stack of books and they came tumbling down towards her before she could escape. The corners jabbed her in random places that would surely bruise and it was more of a shock than anything to find that she was trapped underneath. Hopefully her voice would carry out. "Bloom? Cel? Phae?" Someone would have to have noticed. If not, they would find her eventually. Laying on the hard floor of the library, she struggled to free herself from the pile, hopeful that someone would find her. "Anyone? I'm under here!"

After Allie had dropped off her small stacks of damaged books onto the table for Bloom to try to fix with the masking tape, she wandered to a different place of the library to begin picking up more books. It was starting to look like it had before those Slytherins had been hooligans in here. Allie had let go of her anger because she knew that they were going to be adequately punished for the damage done. She paused briefly to look at a pile of books that had seemed to be slightly picked up and then knocked over again. She made a face slightly as her eyebrows furrowed. She thought about coming back to that pile since it seemed to be one of the easier ones to clean up. As she was about to continue walking to the next aisle, she was stopped short by the sound of a voice calling out to anyone for help. "Oh my god, are you okay?!" Allie quickly rushed over to the pile of books and began to move them off of the girl that was trapped underneath. "How did this happen?" Allie moved the books as quickly as she could without causing more damage to books or to the girl.

Ariella yelled out after hearing the other Ravenclaw's suggestions for her detentions. She hissed unhappily.

"You know, I didn't actually do anything other than slap Erin in the face," she groaned, grabbing more books. Ariella found the body of the Gryffindor that had been injured. Shoving the Gryffindor that had been rendered... well, dead, from what Ariella was getting here. She shook her head.

"Her arm's broken!" she yelled, noticing the weird angle of the Gryffindor's arm. "We need to get her to the hospital wing. Actually, scratch that, is she actually alive?" Ariella put her ear to the Gryffindor's face to listen for breathing. Hearing not much, she gasped. "I can't hear her breathing. Even if she is breathing, she isn't breathing well."

A boy, who had been with Samna a second ago, ran over and looked at the Gryffindor. He had a very strong accent that Ariella found hard to understand. Ariella was sure that she had seen the boy somewhere and tried to search her memories for something, but nothing came.

"I ain't no doc'ta, but I thinks I got a heartbeat ov'er here," the boy said, and Ariella sighed with relief, dragging the Gryffindor over to the boy. Ariella ran quickly over to other people. Due to her lack of strength, Ariella was unable to help the boy and thought perhaps the others could help out.

The boy asked for someone to help him get the Gryffindor to the hospital wing. She stared over at Samna and gave her a look that plainly said 'This is what happens when you spend a little too long in a library with two Slytherins and a Hufflepuff.'

Ariella helped the boy hoist the Gryffindor and quickly tried to run the student over to the hospital wing. Asking another student for help, Ariella ran back into the centre of the library to look for anything else that was going wrong. Gasping, Ariella saw the other student that was crushed.

Oh my, she thought, I wonder what Howard will have to say about this. He, after all, was the one who created all of this mess.

"Someone get a doctor!" The headmaster's voice interrupted her thoughts. Ariella shook her head and decided to help the headmaster get the bookshelf off the student. Perhaps Ariella wasn't that strong, but that didn't mean she couldn't help out. She felt quite bad for being part of the destroying of this library. Realizing it wouldn't really help, Ariella ran out of the room to check on the remainder of her 'group of hooligans' and at the same time, get the nurse.

Eventually, the makeshiftly fixed table was back on its legs. Samna smiled at the boy who helped her out.

"Thank you." She said, brushing a piece of hair out of her eyes. He was a very handsome boy, though he seldom spoke a word to her. She wanted to see if she could get any conversation out of him, but when she turned around, he was gone. A piece of paper fell silently to the ground.

What's that? Samna asked herself, picking it up. She was just about to read it when she heard a yell.

"Her arm's broken!" Samna whipped her head around to where the call was made. She rushed over to observe.

"Oh my God!" Samna yelped, seeing the body on the floor. She nearly fainted. Samna's biggest phobia was injuries and blood. There was no blood, however there definitely was injury. Samna could feel herself shaking slightly. Looking over at Ariella, who was standing the closest to the body, Samna gave her a fearful look.

A short time passed. Samna heard word that the girl was indeed still alive which quelled her fear slightly. Then, the girl was rushed off. But the chaos hadden't stopped. There was another body, crushed. Samna tried to offer help, but her voice was drowned out by the chatter of other students. She sighed once more, feeling useless.

Well, I did fix that one table. But I feel like I should've done more. Thinking to herself while picking up more stray books. Realizing that she had time, she unfolded the paper that was left behind. It read,

Meet me in the common room? 4:00.

Samna's heart fluttered.

W-what? Is he implying that he want's to talk to me? Oh God, do I go? While she was internally freaking out, proper help was given to the poor person who had been crushed. Samna then quietly left the library to figure out what to do next.

Quite a strange experience, this was. When Cel had initially made the decision to help out in the library, she had not envisioned dragging—well, trying her best to carry and not drag but most obviously failing—injured and mostly unconscious students out from under piles of books. Really, someone with actual capability of helping ought to have discovered these bodies, someone other than her. His pulse was clearly palpable, and he was most certainly not dead, but the bruises and cuts that had the time to form on his skin couldn't be comfortable, especially the scraped areas on his legs, likely from getting knocked over as the books fell.

As soon as Cel had managed to deposit the Slytherin near the entrance to the library, trusting that someone would have enough strength to climb three or so flights of stairs and deliver him to the Hospital Wing or whatever else was to be done, a call of her caught her ear. A familiar voice, actually, one of a dormmate's. She turned to dive back into the shelves again, not absolutely certain where it had come from, a little guilty for leaving the anonymous unconscious student without her care—but he would be fine; there were other people already moving the bodies nearby and there was no chance that any more books could topple on top of him again.

Dymphna's voice, that had to be her, had come from... behind this bookshelf, ahead of that one... there, there she was, plus another unknown girl who seemed to have come to her aid a little before Cel could. She rushed in to help anyway; the sooner the books were dislodged the better. Paper cuts, bruises, sometimes suffocation... no, drowning underneath an avalanche of books, especially the strange and heavy books in this particular library, was not an enjoyable pastime. Still she took care not to ruin the precious volumes; it would only be more unnecessary work to fix them again. "Are you all right? Maybe you should go to the Hospital Wing too." Indeed, she had suffered the same sorts of blunt force that the others had, just hadn't been stuck here for as long—the others might have dehydration to worry about. However, depending on how heavily the books had fallen, serious damage could still have been caused.

"Maybe I could... help? Help you get to the Hospital Wing, I mean," the girl offered. Her words were a bit awkward as always, tentative in their extension, for she rarely allowed herself to step out of usual nonchalance. But this was a dormmate, and honestly, she didn't have much else to do today. Helping a Dymphna would probably be making herself more useful than staying here and taping books; she was pretty sure that the anticipated peace would probably not be regained for today, not with the, uh, bodies. Besides, this could be a chance to go back and make sure the other student, the Slytherin boy, wasn't... um... dying. Or something.
