Thurston was sitting at his desk in the Astronomy Classroom, he spend more time there than he would spend in his office. He was not someone to lounge in his office much, but around this place he felt calm as he knew his way around. It was early afternoon so it was not even agreat time to be outside on the platform yet, but that might change when he decides to let students visit him to ask questions at later hours. However he truly did not want to as he liked a nice and quiet evening. However he would not want students to be not able to reach out for him at all.

At the door of his office hung a sign.
In the Tower
.....Barclay
If they would want to make his way up just to ask him questions, he would not mind that. He would answer their questions if they had any, it was his profession after all and he had to make his job well enough. He probably would not be very suited for another job as the discrimination of werewolves still went on and for him it felt nice not to depend on others as much.

The classroom was looking bigger than usual, as all the chairs and desks for the students had vanished and were not seen anywhere. A curtain hid a storeroom from view as it was draped at the side of the classroom. The orreries were floating above in the center of the classroom, ready to be summoned if he needed them and rows of shelves were lead around the walls of the circular room. Shelves that held all kind of objects and books that he used during class or just liked to keep there. They not really seemed to be sorted, but Thurston knew were he could find each of them within seconds. The opening that led to the classroom was blocked by an invisible wall, however standing in front of it would make it possible to look outside. Still the classroom looked oddly empty without the chairs and whatnot. Posters about constellations were stuck to walls and a blackboard floated behind the professor's desk.

The door to the classroom oddly enough was opened, while the professor sat at his desk, reading a thick book bounded in dark leather.

Elizabeth didn't really intend to enter the tower to ask about anything. She just wanted to figure out where her classes were, and let's face it, looking for her classes was a great way to explore the castle. Besides, the door was open, so as far as Elizabeth was concerned, it would be a huge mistake not to go in. Adventure called. Slowly and carefully she made her way up the stairs, taking in the scene around her. The stairway was quite narrow, and though there was light shining down, it was a little dim in the stairwell. Or perhaps it was cloudy. No matter, it was fun looking around, and there wasn't much else to do yet.

"Oh, hi," she said, quite surprised to see someone in the room. I was just looking around. I'm new here and wanted to see where my classes were. Are you the professor?

Elizabeth walked toward the desk, still looking around. There was a curtain draped across something that was probably a walkway. Elizabeth stared at it a moment, wondering what was behind it. Perhaps it's a secret entrance to something! she thought, excitedly. And then she thought otherwise. They were in a tower at one of the tallest parts of Hogwarts. The likelihood of there being a secret room up here was unlikely. Still, they were in a magical place. It could happen. She looked up at what appeared to be models of planets she guessed. "Cool," she whispered. She couldn't wait until the first years' astronomy lesson at the end of the week.

She was so busy looking around the class, she didn't even notice she was right next to the desk. "Oh, sorry," she said, bumping into the desk and knocking some papers off if it. She quickly reached down and picked up the papers, thrusting them back on the desk. "Sorry," she repeated, staring down at her feet.

[quote]Thurston was looking up from the sheet he was grading when he heard footsteps approaching lightly, making him wonder which student was brave enough to go to him personally. Most chose the option of writing owls instead of going to his classroom asking for advise, which Thurston could understand in one was, however it was not as if he would bite. Well not on most days anyways.

It seemed to be a young Hufflepuff that stepped closer, which made him raise an eye at her question. ”Do I look like a student? However yes, indeed I am the professor”, he remarked calmly. He was neither aggressive nor friendly, just calm and collected as he waited for the student to speak up. When she did not a sigh escaped his lips as he leaned back in his chair, making his spine click into place with an inaudible sound.

”What can I assist you with?”, he asked when she did not ask her question right away. Why even, maybe she was too shy to speak up, which is often why other students chose the approach of owling a professor instead of asking them the questions openly. Especially because most professors could indeed look a bit less social at first glance, so he just waited for the student to find her words.

Elizabeth looked at the man more closely. He intimidated her a little, but she had no idea why. He didn't look all that scary. He had red, maybe auburn hair, and looked young. In fact, he looked so young that Elizabeth wondered how long it had been since he was a student. Indeed, Elizabeth might have been attracted to him if she were a little older and there wasn't such an age difference, but she was not, and instead simply stood there feeling nervous. She finally attributed the nervousness to the fact that he was a professor.

"I-I-I" she simply stammered, when he asked how he could assist her. She hadn't really thought about that. She had only gone up to the tower because the door was open, and she wanted to see what was up there. She hadn't anticipated having to actually ask a question, or even socialize. Now Elizabeth wondered why the thought hadn't occurred to her.

She looked around, thinking fast. What could she even ask? She hadn't had a single lesson at Hogwarts, and the questions she had were so general and had nothing to do with astronomy. She could feel her palms start to sweat and her heart beat faster. She thought about running away, but she couldn't get her legs to move. Instead, she blurted out the first thing that came to mind. "What are we going to learn this year?" She regretted it almost immediately. It was probably a ridiculous question. Elizabeth could almost hear a buzzer going off in her head, signifying it's wrongness. She tried again. "I mean, what's that?" she asked, pointing to the models. That seemed wrong, too. All of her questions seemed wrong to her, and she was starting to feel a little ill. Hoping to prevent him from being even more annoyed at her than he already possibly was, she quickly blurted out, "I'm a Muggle! I mean a wizard!" She felt her face grow warm. "I mean I-I'm new." she finally muttered, looking down again.

[quote]The professor could honestly not be bothered by this kids shenanigans. She was asking random stuff and it seemed rather weird for her to do so, it clearly made no sense at all and reminded him of one of those students who were just trying to get some attention from a professor; whther it would end up being negative or positive attention. He would not go by this and raised a single eyebrow at her attempts to come up with something at the top of her head.

"If you just came up here to drink some tea, this is not why this door was opened. I would ask you to leave, if that is the case and if you come up with a question that is remotely decent to ask, refer to an owl, as they probably do not require much more reply than a few words...", he explained in a slightly bored tone. What did she expect when she wandered up all those stairs for nothing?

New, seriously? They were in the middle of the school year and she was calling herself new to the school and asking about the orreries? She sounded clueless enough to be new to his class, so he wondered whether she was gossiping during class that she did not know the environment of the Astronomy classroom.

"So?", he asked again, referring to whether the Hufflepuff had a decent question or not. Maybe he should do it like Griffith, who knew how to keep noisy people away. Act like an arse and they leave you alone.

Fat chance, Elizabeth thought, when she was wondering if the professor would be understanding. Although he hadn’t seemed particularly spiteful initially, he also didn’t seem particularly sympathetic. However, people could be surprising, and she had held her breath ever so slightly that he would surprise her. That hope was dashed away as soon as she saw his eyebrow rise.

Elizabeth was used to getting into trouble. She didn’t want to make people mad at her, especially teachers. However, she was too curious for her own good (according to many adults in her life) and would frequently get caught being places she shouldn’t be. She had been lectured and punished by her parents multiple times for it, and her teachers at school had also told her to think before doing things, but it was so hard for her! She would get so excited thinking about what she would discover that she would go for it, and next thing she knew, she’d be be in the proncipal’s office for sneaking into the roof of the school (what was up there, anyway?) or she’d be grounded by her parents for going into the abandoned barn she had been told not to go into countless times. But what was she supposed to do? After all, curiosity was a good thing, and places were meant to be explored, right? Or at least, that’s what she told herself, anyway.

“Umm...I-I-I’ll just go now,” she stuttered, managing to force her legs to back away slowly from the desk. “S-Sorry for bothering you.” Quickly, she turned and hurried out the door, almost tripping over herself on the way out.

The Tower is now open for another student to approach as Miss Linscott left the Tower.

Allie had just recently received a letter from her parents about a recent discovery of a black hole made by Muggle scientists. As Astronomy was one of Allie's favorite subjects, and one that she excelled in, she was excited to talk with Professor Barclay about the discovery. She first approached his office door to find a no securely pinned that stated the Professor could be found in the Astronomy Tower. "Oh dear," Allie thought to herself about the idea of climbing all those stairs, but luckily for her, her excitement about the potential conversation fueled her enough to make the trip in quicker time than she usually did. As Allie watched another student quickly scurry out of the Tower doorway, she rose one eyebrow curiously before peeking her head around the corner into the nearly empty classroom. It seemed bigger with everything pushed out of the way. She gave a few knocks with her knuckle on the ajar classroom door. "Professor Barclay, I was wondering if you had a moment to discuss something extraordinary that was recently discovered by some muggle scientists. I'd like to hear your thoughts on the matter." She said calmly, looking around at the constellation posters briefly before looking towards the Professor, awaiting his response.

[quote]Thurston was sitting on his chair at the desk, leaned over a bunch of homework that he had to grade, some assignment that he had given the third years, when someone entered his classroom. He placed the quill gently next to the parchment, raising his gaze to look at the girl. His expression stoic, maybe uncaring.

He had heard about that Muggle discovery, it was his field of knowledge after all; at least past the one point in his life. Thurston would therefore lean a bit into the chair, motioning for the girl to sit down at one of the chairs that stood in the first row, merely a few feet away from him. Magic helped with discoveries, making some of them earlier than it was the case in the Muggle world. Magic gave a huge advantage, especially in the magical field. However for now he focused his attention on the student, brushing together the bunch of ungraded paper for it to be graded at a later time, before he looked at the student.

”Go on...”, his voice sounded like it usually did. Slightly monotone, but for now the student would have his attention. For now, but he needed to get these papers graded before the evening, which is when he would teach the class.

Allie couldn't help but give a chaste smile to the professor before she took a seat in one of the chairs in front of his desk that he motioned for her to take a seat in. "Thank you, Professor," she replied before continuing on with their conversation. "Well, I know that something like producing the first images of a black hole isn't too exciting for us in the magical world because we are able to do things that the Muggles aren't capable of, but for someone like me who grew up closely with those in the Muggle world, I still think it's really interesting that they were able to discover something like that on their own. I wanted to know what your thoughts were on the way that Muggles go about exploring space and the world around them. I know that in their past, they have made mistakes, especially with thinking that the Earth is flat and not round, and I know that they prefer the use of rocket ships and things like that to do their observations, but we do have some similarities in the sense that we both use telescopes to make observations of the sky above us."
