Ruka almost choked on the punch as he laughed at Donny's bad luck of having gotten a cupcake with a nice, juicy onion layer, sputtering gracelessly behind his hand. "At least you didn't get something like troll boogies," he pointed out, looking over at the various snacks and cupcakes. Knowing himself and Donny they would probably be daring each other to try random flavours before too long, but for now he decided not to try his luck.
When the girl from the other table came over, Ruka smiled brightly, if not a little awkwardly, at her. He was glad that she had decided to join them at their table, but also scared of feeling like the third wheel since she and Donny already seemed to know each other.
However, Donny was good at making sure they were both included, ridiculously pulling their hands together as he introduced them to each other. "Nice to meet you, Jade," he said, nodding in acknowledgment.
He looked around when she asked what they thought of the party, gaze wandering over the dancefloor and the various decorations. There were fifth years making out in a corner and a group of fourth years wildly dancing across the floor. Some students were gathered around the snack table and some made up gossiping groups. He could see some familiar faces but most of them seemed to sneak off to somewhere else. "It's really something," he agreed with Jade, a smile on his face as he watched some students gagging at the cupcake flavour they had gotten. "Even if they could have put more effort into the music." He chuckled, pointing out the faint sounds in the background that just barely lended themselves to dancing.
He looked back at Jade when she decided to grab some food, then to Donny to see what he thought about that. He actually felt quite hungry himself and the delicious scents whafting through the air really didn't help that situation. "Yeah I might come along," he said, slowly standing up as he waited for whether Donny was going to join them or not. "We should grab some of those cupcakes, see if we can get Donny's favourite onion flavour again!"

Why had he come? Well, that was a pretty easy question to answer. He had gotten a rather cryptic letter from... Well, he wasn't sure who. But whoever this... neato was, he seemed to want to have a meeting of the minds. To maybe forge an alliance. The little boy had no interest in an alliance, he had learned his lesson a long while back. But that didn't mean that he wasn't curious enough to figure out what neato had to say. He looked at the owl in his hand, and quickly corrected himself. Not neato, Nico.
He had shown up very fashionably in the clothes he always wore and never really seemed to take off. His hair still wasn't washed, and still had a few leaves trapped in the black tangles. He still wore the scarf, the cape and the frayed, patched robes, complete with unusually large umbrella strapped to his back. He had very clearly put absolutely no work into looking nice, and very clearly didn't feel the slightest bit uncomfortable about it.
He was feeling tired, but that was it. And when he looked around, he didn't notice anyone of consequence. At least no one that was paying attention to him. He just made his way to the snack table, then thought twice about it. He didn't even eat in the great hall until after almost everyone else had left. He could wait here, too. Just to make sure there wasn't anything wrong. Why change his habits just because this was an event celebrating balls?
That was another thing that confused him. What was so great about spherical objects that people felt the need to dance to them? Well, he supposed he could look it up later, the library had books for a reason. But as he didn't know who exactly invited him, the boy stood roughly in the middle of the area, and waited. Acutely aware that this could be a trap.

The thought of Kae actually showing up made her stomach curl up. Maybe eating a cupcake while being nervous, wasn't the best idea. She sighed deeply and put the wrapper of the cupcake on the table beside her. She tried her best to control her breath and to calm.. down..
As she waited for him to arrive, Nico pressed her hands gently on her ears, while resting her elbows on her lap. She tried to retrace her steps one last time. What went wrong... What did she do that scared him so much that it made him tear up and flee? Her eyes gazed at the floor before she closed them. She blocked out the music, the lights, the gorgeous decorations. Everything. Except Kae.
He was a puzzle. A hard one. She did do... everything she could do. Everything she thought was the right way to communicate with people. Right? A frown slid up her face as she tried to make sense of it. It didn't help... It didn't add up... She tried to remember how he acted. He was agitated and scared... Nervous to say the least. He didn't intend to sit with me back then, it just seemed the safest place. I probably looked harmless and weak. Nico shook her head and pulled herself out of the dark flashback. Laying back in the seat, she gazed up at the colorful lights. They seemed to sooth her mind, as if telling her, everything would be okey.
And when you spoke of the devil. There he was. Kaegan Deathmote. If he felt cornered in the Great Hall, she could imagine he wasn't very fond of being here either. Out in the open, where students could see him. Nico sighed, her face flushed red as she tried not to stare. She had to think of the right way to approach him. Like a wild deer. Who... would only allow you to come closer by.. gaining trust. Maybe that was what she did wrong.
She was nervous, that hadn't changed. Maybe it had gotten worse. Resting her hand on the table, she pushed herself up. Clearing her throat softly. This time.. she would take her time. If... By the time, he didn't ran off or something similar.
Carefully, she stepped up to him. Stopping a fair distance from him. 'k-Kaegen. You.. actually came..' She spoke up, loud enough for him to hear her clearly but soft enough that she wouldn't pull any unwanted attention. Her voice was shy but clear. Still trying to control her breath, one hand holding onto the other arms elbow. 'I-..I'm sorry, If I scared you last time. I didn't intend intend to scare you, really.' She averted her gaze, looking at the food and punch, hoping it would calm her down. 'We did...meet at the Great Hall. In case, you...might have forgot.' She let out a soft giggle. Why couldn't she just face him and be straight.
'I'm sure you wonder why I...' Sighs. 'Why I invited you here...' The words were so rough to say. They were just words. Why was it so hard? 'I... hoped we could...' Hating her lack of speech, she gently shook her head. 'I hoped we could get to know each other.'
She almost regretted saying that. Was that okey? Was that okey to ask of someone like him...?

Donny couldn't blame Ruka for laughing at his cupcake story, in fact, he laughed at himself a little bit once the after taste cleared his tongue. "Yeah! You should try one if you think it funny!" Donny said, motioning to Ruka and Jade. It was just then that he had noticed the boy. The evil boy that still pained him to think about. It was Kaegen. The kid who nearly killed almost five kids in the abandoned bathrooms. He decided that it was in fact time to leave the party, and he followed Jade and Ruka as they stood up.
"I think... Er, we should grab some food before we head off to the lake or something." he said, massaging the scars that were still left from the attack. He hadn't told Ruka or Jade about what had happened, but he decided to save it for later. The sooner he could leave the better. He grabbed a few napkins and wrapped up some cupcakes. "Lets go. Er..Jade could you get the punch?" He said, waiting for a response. He couldn't bear seeing Kaegen, he was nervous another break out would occur, and he'd only heard about last year's dance...

It didn't take long for someone to approach him. But it wasn't who he had expected. First of all, it was a girl. He had, for some reason, been thinking that it was going to be a boy, based on the name. Nico seemed like a boy's name, didn't it? Angelo, Ricardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, Escargo... all names that sounded pretty similar and that he had found in books he had slowly struggled through. Nico, therefore, was a name that was more suited to a 100+ year old man from italy, which he assumed was some town in the south of Scotland.
It wasn't just any girl, either. It was that one girl with the thing. He couldn't really remember what the thing was, he was too tired and she hadn't been quite scary enough to leave a very lasting impression on the sleep deprived mind of the Ravenclaw, but he remembered that it was something treasure-y. Or something like that. Something scary that was also treasure, or worth a lot of money. One of the above.
She apologized for scaring him off before, saying she hadn't meant to. He didn't really put much stock by her apology, one way or another, so he just let it pass him by. No reason to respond to something that didn't really matter, right? She had invited him here for a reason, and he was curious as to the nature of that reason.
His silent question was answered a moment later when she told him exactly what he had been hoping to find out. She just wanted to learn more about him? Well, she phrased it more of a mutual thing. So she was trading knowledge about herself for knowledge about him? Well, as long as she didn't expect to gain anything crucial, he supposed he could play her game.
"Okay. Well, I grew up in the fens, I don't have a favorite subject, I enjoy the ones that teach me useful things. My name's authority comes from the conquering of the 14th dark place, which was done a generation ago, about. So it's not very old."
He looked at her, expectantly.

River Left The Thread
Coffee flavoured cupcakes, maybe River would need to get the recipe for it, since it was very good indeed. After finishing her cupcake, River just stood there, hands folded across her chest, eyes scanning the surrounding people. Everybody seemed to have someone to hang out with. Should I just go up to someone? She thought to herself, hoping to spot another lone person at the dance.
River sighed, maybe I’d made a mistake coming after all? She didn’t really know what to do at these things anyway. Sure, be social, have fun, make friends. The thing is, River was never good at those things, they would only make her anxious.
Really though, she didn’t regret coming. It was nice to at least have been there, seen what it was like, and just take in the atmosphere.
Perhaps there are some familiar faces elsewhere? she thought, as she had noticed some people heading in direction of both the cabins, and the lake. River had never been to the cabins before, and it was tempting to check out. Still, the lake was one of her favourite parts of the grounds, and she did also want to head there. It was somewhere she knew well, and would feel more comfortable in a place she felt she knew.
River started slowly making her way to the exit, passing some people dancing wholeheartedly around each other, two people kissing, and other groups standing around, eating snacks or just talking and having fun. She looked back at the dance floor. Dancing, that was something she knew how to do well, but she could not bring herself the courage to do it amongst all these people. No she decided she’d like to check out some other place.
She headed on her way in her converse, carefully brushing her hair out of her face as she took in the nice air of the grounds.

Jade was slightly surprised by Donny's sudden eagerness to leave, but decided now was not the time to ask questions. "No, I don't have the punch, I'll go get it, I'll meet you two at the Great Lkae. I might take a bit as I also intend to re-fill them, can you two get me some pies? Thanks, see ya in a bit" Jade said quickly before heading off to the table.
As she walked over there she noticed several strange assurances, several people that seemed out-of-place. Jade thought they might be why Donny wanted to leave. They didn't look friendly, in fact, one could say they looked evil, but that person would have to have made several bold assumptions to assume that.
Jade reached the table with no issues and picked up their glasses. Walking back over to the fountain Jade refilled them making sure she knew who's was who's. On her way past the confectionary table Jade couldn't help but to grab some cupcakes, they just looked so good.
As Jade approached the Lake Jade could see Donny and Ruka already waiting for her. "Sorry I took so long.... I got distracted by cupcakes" Jade said showing them the cupcakes in her arms with a sheepish smile. Jade couldn't wait to tuck-in, this food looked amazing.

Miko watched his group 'o' friends leave and just decided to stay because there was no way he was going to the cabins in this suit. Right when he was about to inhale more food Rowan came back and his jaw dropped. He thought he looked alright but Rowan looked stunning, Miko hadn't even bothered to fix his hair for the occasion! Sometimes he wished he was rich and didn't have this insane black hair so he could look handsome in a suit and done hair instead of an eight year old playing dress up.
He snapped back out of his daze when Rowan spoke to him, slightly regretting not doing his hair. "Uh hey Rowan." Miko rubbed the back of his neck nervously. Rowan looked pretty intimidating to Miko even though he was way shorter. "I see you spent some time preparing yourself.." The Hufflepuff looked the other up and down before fixing his own suit jacket.
At times he was envious of Rowan, him being upper class and all. With the amount of money his family had, his fathers could barely afford the suit he was wearing which was only six galleons. Only. It was still quite a bit but compared to the Gryffindor boy, it was probably not.

Nico blinked surprised by his fast, straight forward answer. He also didn't seem to be very much bothered by her presence. She... didn't think it was gonna be... this easy to sort of talk to him. He answered her. He seemed abit off. Different from when they last met. He wasn't looking around as if he was being hunted. He seemed... untouched by all this. The lights, the people... even the food.
She tried to breathe. It was fine. Everything was fine. As she noticed how he apprantly expected her to say something next, she wasn't sure what to say. What would he want to know? What could possibly be interesting to him that she had to tell. She thought about his answer as she rubbed her arm. Maybe there was a clue in there of what he thought was... interesting.
He spoke of his heritage, the Fens? She wasn't familiar with it. Was... she supposed to know where it was? 'Fens? Where's that?' She carefully asked tilting her head slightly. She didn't want to be nosy, but she was just genuinly interested. What made this boy tick...? What... made him to be who he was that day.
She couldn't help and look at his outfit, as she thought more. He was probably the only boy that sticked to his everyday atire. She noticed how his hair was greasy. Did this boy... ever washed his hair since he got on Hogwarts? Honestly, she couldn't help but feel abit worried. What kind of state do you need to be, to have no sense of hygiene. She felt a dire need to wash it, but held back. Ofcourse, that would probably get herself hurt. It would also be very rude...
'I don't really have a favourite subject either. I have trouble.. attending class.' Nico looked away, grabbing another cupcake. She didn't eat it yet. She merely kind of let it roll around in her hands. 'I do try to do homework. So, that's something.' Her fingers lightly brushed over the frosting as she didn't dare to look back up at Kae.
She tried to think. The slytherin didn't find herself particulary interesting. She thought of how she loved to draw. Maybe he .. drew too? Or maybe he'd like to? Nico's eyes widened abit, slightly excited. She gently held the cupcake in her hand. 'I do draw. It helps me to express myself. I have never been good at expressing my emotions the right way.' Carefully, she looked up, hesitantly making eye contact. 'Do you ...draw too?'

Rowan smiled a little and rolled his eyes. Miko was such a dork sometimes. It was the least he could do to maybe close his mouth a little? He blushed slightly though, against himself.
“Not enough if you ask me. Anyhow. You look quite... ah, gods, what is the word. Belle... oh- Qu'Est-ce que c'est- beautiful! That’s it! Ugh. You look beautiful. Though I don’t think that’s even right...”
He face palmed, shaking his head a little. Rowan was a mess, to say the least. As he went over English customs in his head he looked around, scanning the crowd.
And a quite worrying figure was here. But for a moment, he put that aside, because the boy seemed preoccupied. Though he would probably lead them both away at the first moment. It was all Rowan could really do not to give into the shock.
“So, feeling better? You certainly look better.”
Now that Rowan thought about it he actually looked... really good... damn... okay then. He found his eyes running over Miko for just a moment, before he looked away again, blushing just a bit harder, which in all honesty, looked like alot with his fair complexion.
“What’s the picture in the locket today?”
