Kaitlyn hummed to herself, gracefully moving through the corridors at Hogwarts. She carried her bag with her, her sketchpad inside. In the pocket of her cloak, her bunny, Demeter was cuddled up inside. She stopped at a big window in the corridor, overlooking the Quidditch Pitch. With a giggle, she approached and sat down on the ledge of the window, flatening her skirt, as she did so. She removed Demeter from her pocket, placing her on the ledge next to her. Rummaging through her bag quickly, she pulled out a small container with cut-up carrot sticks. She opened it and placed it next to Demeter. “Enjoy your snack,” she giggled, as Demeter began to eat her carrots.

Smiling, Kaitlyn took out her sketchpad. She opened it to a new page, and glanced outside at the pitch. She began to sketch how the Quidditich pitch looked from inside of the castle. On occassion, she would extend her arm and gently pet Demeter’s fur, giving her nice and even strokes. She smiled to her bunny, before turning her blue eyes back to the window. She let out a happy sigh, continuing to sketch. As she did so, she paid no mind to what was going on around her, other than keeping an eye on her bunny.

Surprisingly to her, Kaitlyn was slowly bonding with Demeter, noticing that her bunny was listening to her more. And she noticed that her bunny was naturally attracted to her. With a knowing smile, Kailtyn continued with her drawing.

Regina had originally planned for a visit with her sister at the great hall, she even brought along her favorite paintbrush and sketchbook. Knowing Bellus, her sister enjoy lecturing her about how sensitive she was on little things. Regina didn’t deny the fact, obviously, though she finds her sister a bit annoying when she talked with her bossy attitude. So in order to avoid the lecture session, Regina left her half-written letter on her common room’s table and left the RavenClaw tower for a little stroll around the castle.

Cosmo, Regina’s loyal cat, had tag along on her journey. His big round eyes blinking affectionately towards his owner every now and then. It wasn’t long since he was bought from Magical Menegerie, though Regina seem to already had won his trust. Cosmo padded next to Regina, having to break into a small run to keep up with her pace once in a while.

She came across a Slytherin first-year at the window of the corridors, the other girl seem to be drawing as well, which was a habit of Regina’s. With caution, and curiosity, the young RavenClaw walked over to Kaitlyn, stopping just a meter away from the other girl. Regina took the time to study the Slytherin girl, making sure she wouldn’t be talking to a person who would be hiding under her bed at midnight. After a long while, seeing Kaitlyn wasn’t aware of her appearance, she decided to make the first move.

“Hello.” Her voice was quiet and pure, there was not much emotions in it.

As Kaitlyn continued her drawing, she kept her free hand near Demeter. She noticed that her pet seemed awe fully skidding. But, she seemed to relax more in Kaitlyn’s presence. ‘She must be like me, takes time to be comfortable around others. I’ll keep that thought in mind,’ she thought, a smile on her face. She could tell that Demeter was going to be a sweet pet. She was happy to have found her.

The Quidditch pitch was slowly materializing on her sketch pad. Despite the likelihood of her ever playing on the team was incredibly unlikely, she wanted to do this picture justice. Hogwarts was her home now.

As Kaitlyn continued to work, she could feel Demeter stiffen a little. Figuring it was just from other students passing by, she was in a corridor after all, she didn’t look up. Instead, she started to pet Demeter in a circular motion near her ears. She could feel the Mist Hopper melt into her touch, and return to eating.

Not too long afterwards, she was greeted by a voice. A light flush bloomed on her cheeks. She looked up to see a pretty blonde girl with blue eyes. A first year, as well. And she had a cat with her. “H-hi,” she greeted her, shyly. She wasn’t used to having to start a conversation. “Um, I-I’m Kaitlyn Connor,” she said in introduction. She glanced at the remainder of the ledge and gestured to it. “Y-you’re w-welcome t-to j-join me I-if y-you w-want,” she stuttered. ‘I hope I didn’t scare her off … I really need to work on my social skills,’ she thought. Other than continuing to pet Demeter, she kept her attention on the Ravenclaw girl.

The little SpindleWheel wasn’t surprise at Kaitlyn’s behavior, as she didn’t expect the other to greet her enthusiastically, base on how she interacts with her bunny. With a glance at the remaining space of the ledge, Regina nodded and quietly shuffled next to her, she was well aware that she hadn’t yet introduced herself.

She didn’t plan on saying anything else as she took out her own sketchbook and began working on her sketch of the quidditch pitch. To be fair, she didn’t paid much attention to the girl next to her at all. Let’s say she was horrible at making friends.

Cosmo leaped onto Regina’s lap, bending over to sniff Demeter. Luckily, Regina held him back before he got the chance to pounce onto the bunny. The Ravenclaw quickly muttered a “sorry” directed towards Kaitlyn and her bunny before returning to her sketch.

“Cosmo, why don’t you go hang out with your other kitty friends back at the Ravenclaw tower?” She prompted, wanting to shoo away her cat for a while, so that it won’t mess with Kaitlyn’s bunny. As she watched her cat pacing away hesitantly, she stole a glance of Kaitlyn’s sketchpad, it was then she noticed how beautiful the pitch was drawn.

“Nice drawing,” she complimented, hoping to make the other feel more at ease, even if she was terrible at socializing herself.

“Could use a bit more shadings though,” she mumbled, her gaze not leaving her sketchbook. Sometimes Regina couldn’t help but let out a few critiques, in spite of her strange personality.

Kaitlyn smiled hesitantly, as the girl sat with her on the ledge. She quietly moved her bunny into her lap, to make more room. She was aware that the girl didn’t provide her name, and chose not the persue it at this time. ‘She must be shy like me, I think it’ll be best to let her decide when to tell me her name. And it would be nice to have another Ravenclaw friend,’ she thought.

Noticing that the girl was starting her own sketch, Kaitlyn trained her eyes back on her own sketchpad, continuing her drawing. Not even a few moments later, the girl’s cat, named Cosmo, lept on the girl's lap and tried to sniff Demeter. Her cheeks flushed at the girl’s apology, and suggestion to her pet. She gently shook her head. “It’s a-alright, n-no need to a-apologize. H-his n-name i-is Cosmo, r-right? I’m t-trying to g-get Demeter m-more comfortable a-around other p-people and other a-animals. She’ll b-be fine, a-as long as Cosmo d-doesn’t pounce on her,” she responded, quietly. She noted that her stuttering was subsiding a little, already.

Her cheeks flushed bright red at the girl’s compliment, and then subsequent critique. “I … um … thanks … I’m n-not done y-yet,” she squeaked. “I w-was planning o-on doing t-that … I h-have plenty o-of other drawings if y-you wanted t-to see them. Th-they’re n-not in c-color, but th-they do h-have shading,” she responded, hesitatntly.

Regina struggled to catch what the other girl was stuttering about, but she caught most of it. “Yes,” answered Regina blankly as Kaitlyn asked about Cosmo. She would be willing to tell Kaitlyn much more about her cat, only that she wasn’t sure how the other girl would react to her words. Would she finds her annoying, would she judge her? Worst of all, would she betray her?

“And your bunny is named Demeter? That’s a really unique name for bunnies,” said her, a hint of amuse could be picked up from her voice. She watched as the girl turned redder after each of her words, was she embarrassing her?

“Oh no worries- that wasn’t- I didn’t mean- I didn’t intend to say it that way-” Rushed the blonde haired girl, she didn’t mean to sound rude or judgy. In fact, she didn’t even realize the other had taken it as a critique until now. “It was a suggestion,” murmured Regina shyly, after a while. She was very much ashamed of her own actions, hoping she didn’t give off a bad impression. To hide her embarrassment, she played around with her brush, ignoring the few splashes of paint that dripped onto her school robes.

It had been a while since Regina had arrived to Hogwarts, yet she had only made one new friend so far, if not counting her sister, she was desperately in search for new friends who she could study with, or even just to talk with. This was a perfect opportunity for Regina to make friends, yet she felt like she already failed.

Kaitlyn flushed lightly at the girl’s question and nodded. “Um … yes. Demeter i-is a G-greek goddess of a-agriculture,” she confirmed. “I met h-her near t-the forest, so I n-named her after a nature-based g-goddess,” her speech was slowly improving.

“It’s alright,” Kaitlyn squeaked, letting her blue eyes look down at her sketchpad. She placed her drawing pencils on the ledge next to her and flipped her sketchpad to a drawing of the black lake. Her most recent one. While not in color, she had shaded it appropriately. With it’s dark murky waters, the lake was shaded a bit darker. The ground around the lake was shaded lighter. Her shading even took the ripples in the lake’s surface into account. She gingerly moved closer to the girl, holding her sketchpad out to her. “Um … May I suggest seeing a final version of my work? I completed this one of the black lake a few weeks ago. It took me about four hours to get the shading right,” she admitted. “I have even more drawings in this sketch pad, and many more in my dorm,” she added, quietly.

Kaitlyn glanced at the painting the girl was doing. “May I ask what you’re painting?” She asked. Her politeness evident.

Regina nodded, she was always interested in the Ancient Greek gods, since of the Greek’s architecture and society, they had always been one of Regina’s top interests. She enjoys creating new patterns and using the Greek elements in her drawing.

She noticed the Slytherin's speech was improving dramatically when she showed her her drawing of the black lake. Reluctantly, she took the sketchpad from the girl. It was really pretty, as Regina would have thought. She took time to enjoy the details hidden within the lake.

“I think it’s really pretty, your shadings are neat,” she commented positively, while handing the drawing back to its owner. Normally Regina sticks to watercolor and paints, so Kaitlyn’s pencil arts were new to her, not only did her drawing peaked Regina’s interest, they also gave her new inspirations on her upcoming project.

Her gaze flickered across the Slytherin girl’s robes, as the green tie had caught her attention. Just then, she wondered why Kaitlyn was sorted into Slytherin, her father would often say Slytherins had a strong thirst for blood, and that they couldn’t be trusted and valued. She never took her father’s words seriously, especially when it comes to opinion on houses, and she was lucky that she didn’t, Kaitlyn didn’t seem “savage” or “bossy” at all.

“The quidditch pitch, as, well there aren’t anything else here that I haven’t painted before beside the pitch,” her voice was clear and soft, she held out her sketchbook and flipped open to the page she was working on, revealing a half-finished watercolor painting of the pitch. Unlike Kaitlyn, Regina preferred to go for creativity over realism, she included many more patterns and color variations into her piece, though that didn’t mean her painting looked any less realistic, colored shadings and lighting added a finishing touch to the piece.

“I finished half of them, though they weren’t as realistic as yours.”

Kaitlyn smiled and nodded to the girl’s praise of her work. She was always proud of her work, one of the very few things she had confidence in. “Thank you,” she responded, politely, giving a quick bow of her head. “I know it can get boring easily just sitting in one spot for so long, but I like doing it for my drawings. I think they come out the best if I finish them the same day,” she continued, quietly. “Do you feel the same way?” She asked.

At the girl’s statement of her work, Kaitlyn nodded. She looked at the sketchbook the girl handed her. The Quidditch pitch she was drawing looked different than hers, even when it was only half-way finished. But, that wasn’t a bad thing. “Nice, this looks good so far. I think it’s fine the way you have it,” she replied, handing the girl back her sketchpad. “I like the creativity you used in yours,” she continued, giving the other girl a smile. “And, I’m sorry if I’m bothering you … but I think the watercolors you used look great! I only brought my drawing set with me to Hogwarts, not a watercolor set … I wish I did though. I like your art,” she smiled, brightly.

Kaitlyn pushed a stray strand of her brunette hair behind her ear. Her blue eyes never left the girl. “If you don’t mind me asking … do you normally paint like this around others, or by yourself?” She asked.

“I do,” she replied, feeling as if she had found a new buddy, since both girls shared the same interest and talent, and they both needed to work on their social skills. Regina had thought for a while already, she knew it was time for her to introduce herself to her new friend.

“Thank you, I’m glad you like it…” whispered her gratefully in reply, normally others found it weird to see her paint the sky pink, which she was doing now. Being reminded, she opened her mouth and prepared to say something, but not before being interrupted by her cat, who had returned with a dead sparrow.

“I’m Regina, Regina SpindleWheel. Sorry for not introducing myself earlier, it takes me a bit of time to be comfortable around.. people, though you might recognize my sister, Bellus, she’s way more out-going than me, I prefer being alone.” said Regina, catching her cat while it was in mid-air swiftly. She carefully removed the dead critter away from her feet, so that the blood won’t stain her robes, before allowing Cosmo to be on her lap.

She stroked Cosmo’s back gently, he purred warmly as she did so.

“Oh,” she looked a bit dumbfounded. “I paint this way all the time, but I guess by myself? I don’t usually show others my work.. you know,” she purposely avoided the other’s gaze as she wasn’t very keen on answering more- personal questions, at least to Regina they were personal. However, as she could tell she was making progress on befriending Kaitlyn based on how the other girl wasn’t stuttering any more, she reluctantly answered.

Why?, she was urged to ask, though she held her tongue, not wanting to sound too offensive.
