Violet didn't understand the hype around valentine's day. She never understood why there was a need of a special day to celebrate love, when true love was to be celebrated every day of one's life till death did the lovers apart.
Being young, she of course did not have a boyfriend and didn't really have a crush, that's the very reason why she didn't understand the 'hype'.

Nonetheless she was bored. She hadn't really seen any of her friends since morning. She had already completed her day's homework and had already been to the library once. So she walked around the school, secretly hoping she had find a friend to pass some time with.

As she was passing by the transfiguration classroom, she could smell a really bad stench of dungbombs and exploding bon bon residue. She frowned and furrowed her eyebrows.
Curiosity got the best of her, and she peeked into the classroom.
The always neat classroom, was in a horrible state today.
Black soot covered the whole floor of the classroom. She saw some students cleaning up and scrubbing the floor.
Professor Perceval-Phelan was there too, standing and frowning at the mess his classroom was in.
She felt bad for the professor. The professor had to go through this mess, when he could be spending time with his loved one.

She entered the classroom in order to help. She had nothing other to do anyways.

Why would someone even do that? What fun is to make such pranks, really. They probably just ruined someone's day. This idea doesn't seem funny or entertaining. It's valentine's day after all, people wish to celebrate it with their loved ones, they definitely don't wish to clean some horribly stinking classroom, she thought to herself.
Violet miraculously found herself defending people who wanted to celebrate Valentine's day, when she was the very same person who did not validate the hype around Valentine's day.
Though it was pretty obvious, that the person who decided to do this prank did not validate the hype around Valentine's day either and was probably jealous of anyone celebrating it.

To help, Violet picked up a sponge and a bucket of water. She didn't really know how to clean. At her mansion, she had never seen someone cleaning the floors and of course had never tried it herself. She was not even sure, if there was a spell to clean up faster. There must have been, but she wished she knew one.

She picked up a corner and started scrubbing it with the sponge, the best she could do.
She sighed, the job sure was tiring.
The young girl, moved around scrubbing, sometimes bumping into people till she thought she had done enough of the job and grew extremely tired.

After completing her part of the job, she picked up up the bucket and sponge she was using and kept it back at the place from where she had picked it up.

She really hoped, that she could have a wonderful dinner later that night.

H e had no reason to be on the fifth floor during study period. If anything, the horrid smell coming out of the Transfiguration Classroom should have sent him careening the other way. What was that smell? Rotten eggs? The one time he'd made his cauldron full of flubberworms boil over during Potions had smelled like perfume in comparison. Not even the greenhouses on a hot, muggy day were this bad. Gagging, he was on the verge of turning around when Professor Phelan's voice whipped down the hall.

"No one goes anywhere until this whole classroom is spotless."

He froze. Surely Professor Phelan didn't mean him too? That's just totally unfair! Cleaning up someone else's mess that he had, for a change, nothing to do with! Didn't they have house-elves for that? Just his rotten luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. He scowled at Professor Phelan and covered his mouth with the hollow of his elbow against the thick, steaming, putrid air that drifted out of the classroom.

"But Professor," he whinged, his voice muffled by his sleeve. "Why should I have to clean it? I didn't do anything!" Arguing with a Professor rarely led to anything good and he knew Professor Phelan to be strict, but there was just no way he was going in there. It wasn't his fault and there was no profounder injustice than being punished for a crime he didn't commit. Maybe talking was the solution. Maybe he could blather on for long enough to let the others finish the work. "Can't you transfigure it into something else? Or get a house-elf to clean it? Professor. Sir." The stern Irishman would find himself being defied by five foot nothing of stubbornness. "Don't you have enough help already?

A rather large number of students had gathered by now, most of them first-years he didn't recognize, all of them gullible sods. Why were they letting themselves being bossed around like that? Why didn't anyone else speak up? The only person who sounded sufficiently aggravated was none other than @Evelynn Decipio, the fifth-year he'd met at Summer Camp during his first year. Best Seeker we had, he groaned inwardly. She'd left the team right when he'd joined and now Gryffindor was stuck with Elsian, his good-for-nothing sloth of a dorm mate who had to be dragged kicking and screaming to Quidditch practice.

It appeared however that Evelynn was not in a foul mood for the reasons he suspected. He'd never seen her this bossy before and now he felt even less like helping out. "Look, Professor, Ms. Decipio seems to be really into it," he sniggered, "would you really want to, uh, dampen her enthusiasm?"

The smell was so bad it reached him from across the hallway. It was so bad, in fact, that it made Suzuki curious. He followed his nose, grimacing as the putrid scent worsened. The source: the transfigurations classroom. There were already several students inside, bending down periodically to pick up small brown items littered around the room. The classroom was a mess, and it smelled worse than London's least hygenic spots.
He knew a few spells for the task of cleaning up the soiled floors but had unluckily forgotten his wand in his dorm. Typical. He didn't like carrying that stick around much, it didn't tend to fit well in his pockets. Bent over on the floor was a small girl scrubbing at the dirtied floor with water and a sponge. Suzuki had never actually used a dungbomb before and thus was unsure of how they functioned and much less sure of how to actually clean them up.
"Happy valentines day. Pretty disgusting way to spend your day, right? I hope you don't mind if I join you." Suzuki bent down next to her with his newly retrieved bucket, and start scrubbing the floor beside her.
Maybe the floor didn't actually need scrubbing, maybe it did- but a little deep cleaning wouldn't hurt for sure. Despite the multiple students bent over around the classroom picking up the tiny dungbomb remains, there was still a ton of residue left. He abandoned his spot with the bucket momentarily to find a broom.
Suzuki carefully swept all the dust and dungbomb shells up to a small pile, and returned to the bucket. He scrubbed the trail of soot that the dumgbombs had left behind.
What a way to spend Valentines, he thought. He had originally been heading back to his dorm for some time to himself after a morning of studying, but he didn't honestly mind the work. It was good for taking his mind off things. After all, his hands were cramped from holding the thin little quill and writing things for hours on end. His eyes were still strained from peering at the fine print on his textbooks. A bigger font would be nice.
He tried to start some small talk with the thin dark haired girl sill working at the floor next to him. "Got any plans for valentines? I'm sure you didn't wake up with cleaning in your mind. It's a pretty nice day outside, I'll bet tons of couples are enjoying each other's companies outside."

Violet was surprised when a guy bent down next to her, with his own bucket and sponge wishing her valentine's day. She genuinely thought, that she would have no company this day.
Replying to guy and his questions, she said, "Happy Valentine's day to you too! Yeah, I ofcourse did not expect to spend my Valentine's day like this, it sure is quite disgusting and of course, I don't mind you joining me. I quite pity the professor and the other students working here, I'm pretty sure they want to spend time with their loved ones but are sadly stuck here so I decided to help them. I might not be doing much, but every drop counts!"
Saying that, she again focused on her work, not being really good at scrubbing. Her hands had started giving up, but she really wanted to help the professor.

The guy beside her, decided to talk again and for the first time, she was quite thankful someone decided to talk to her again. Talking surely was a way, to take her mind off the tiresome cleaning. He asked her about her plans for Valentine's.
" Well, plans" She thought about it. She really had none. Valentine's was not really a special day for her afterall. She used to spend it with her mom and dad, playing games and having her favourite, Italian cuisine! Violet continued, "Oh well, I don't really have plans. I don't have a significant other either. So it's not a really special day for me, I guess. I kind of miss my parents though, we would spend Valentine's together as I had no other friend then. On another note, I did wish to spend today's day with my friends but couldn't really find anyone of them. So in short, I don't have plans but the weather sure looks quite nice."
For a shy girl's standard, she spoke quite a lot today.

Suzuki continued to scrub at the ground, lifting his head every now and then for some fresh air (although there didn't seem to be any truly nonscented air in the room). "Yeah I get what you mean. I couldn't imagine just trying to enjoy your once in a year Valentine's and coming back to discover your rooms been trashed... And that smell, too."

He dipped the sponge back in the bucket and stood up momentarily to stretch his cramped muscles. Back at home in London his mother's house seemed always to be spotless so he'd never really cleaned before. Well, Suzuki had, but not like this. Whoever trashed this place was truly talented. At trashing, at least.

He turned to face the girl again in their conversation.
"Oh well, I don't really have plans.
"Must be tough. You do get used to not having your parents around after awhile though. I'm assuming you're a first year. But doing something with other people around is better than being all alone on Valentine's day, right? Or maybe that's just me," Suzuki fumbled. He had always been bad with words but was trying to talk to people more recently. Especially today. He couldn't help but think how depressing it would be to waste Valentines day moping around in his gloomy dorm with a book. Even if it meant crawling around in a turd scented room scrubbing the dusty floors.

Minnie was having a really truly bad day when her trasfiguration teacher decided to give her a large pile of homework. It was truly very mean, so she dungbombed and exploding bon boned him. Or to be exact, his classroom. She usually was very nice, but the extra homework just ticked her off. It was really annoying. So she let her temper out, and now was satisfied. She had finished up and was in the hallway when the professor walked into his classroom. She had cringed, wanting to have been safely away when he found out. But he didn't seem to suspect her, so that was good news. She had nearly fainted with terror when he started talking about his classroom, thinking he had found out about her. But he had just ordered everyone to clean up. And so here she was, cleaning up her own dungbomb mess. At least he didn't know it was her.

Minnie sighed. "Why do we have to do this?" She said aloud. She blushed a little as heads turned her way, but kept going. "It's not our mess or classroom, why do we have to fix it?" So she was lying for the last part, but who's going to know? She still was cleaning up the stupid mess.

Minnie continued to clean, more quietly this time as she didn't want to draw attention. I really hate this. What a wonderful addition to my day. I get to clean up my own dungbomb I set and breathe not fun smelling air all the while. She thought, getting more annoyed by the second. But she didn't want detention so she tried not to lose her temper. But seriously, she needed a way out of this.

Maybe I can sneak away by "going to the bathroom". She mused. No it will never work. What about talking to someone to make the time go by faster? That I guess I can do. And maybe find a way to not do work as well. So she decided to try to find someone to help her get out of work and maybe make a friend. Not that she was good at talking to people. But whatever, she was going to find someone to talk to, even if it was an annoying person. She really didn't want to clean up her mess.

Minnie went out to the hallway and saw a boy shouting at the professor. She looked at him and summoned up the courage to speak. "Why are you yelling?" She asked. Then she held up her cleaning supplies. "If you don't want detention, I'm pretty sure you should be cleaning."

I don't break the rules, I expand them for my need.

"Because for all we know.." A calm hiss snaked its way from behind him as Finnegan attempted to appeal to the professor's empathetic side, "you could have been responsible." Had it not been for the specific mention of her name to hook her attention amidst the hustle of cleaning, the second-year cub might have gone unnoticed. Unfortunately for him, he became one of the only familiar faces in the room on the simple merit of being a fellow Gryffindor, placing upon himself a particularly vivid target. "Or you, for that matter?" She cooed, shifting her attention briefly to the young girl standing beside him for no other reason than because she was there. "How can we be certain you are not the perpetrator attempting to weasel out of cleaning up his own sticky-fingered work?" With her gaze returned to Finnegan, it dipped briefly down to those very hands almost as though expecting them to be soiled in some manner.

"But how pleased I am to see you, Mister Conner." Her honeyed words likely left much to be desired in contrast to the stern angle of pursed lips. What came next wasn't so much of a suggestion as it was a promise of ire behind a veiled command. "Perhaps you can put your clever wits to use and spare us all an unnecessarily lengthy cleaning session by showing your younger peers how deft you are with a wand." The corner of her mouth twitched before pulling into a smile that didn't quite meet her eyes. "I am sure your cast of the Scouring Charm would be passably effective, mn?"

[quote]The guy beside Violet replied to her. She slightly moved her head in his direction and replied back, Well, yes I'm a first year and I have kind of started getting used to my parents not being around me but occasionally on days like this very day make me miss them a lot. No lying, I did try to search for my friends to spend my day with them. I was just searching for them, when I ended up here. As she said that, she lightly frowned missing her friends as well.

Violet suddenly realised that she had not even asked the name of the person she was talking to. In all honesty, she was curious about the guy beside her, and so she bombarded him with questions.
Violet asked, "Don't you have someone to hang out with today? Also, I have been curious about this... But why are you not using your wand to clean up the mess rather? You look like you might be a third or fourth year, so ...? Or is it not taught yet? I just kind of know the spell, I have seen it being used but I don't know how to use it myself."
As Violet said that, she looked around once again, seeing absolutely no student using their wand to clean up the mess. She wondered why noone was actually using their wands which was actually much easier.

☙ A Stinky Valentine's Day Surprise, 14th of February 2024 ❧
Perhaps he had judged too soon. A girl with short blonde hair and rimmed glasses, annoyingly a smidge taller than himself despite clearly being a first-year, joined him in protest.

"I wasn't yelling," he said, throwing a pointed look her way. Just when he thought she might join him in combatting this grave injustice, she offered her cleaning equipment to him. The quick flit of his eyes going from her head to her toes and back, as though taking the measure of her, spoke volumes. Weighed and found wanting, so to speak. "Are you having a laugh?" he said, frowning. "Those are yours, why don't you use them" he said, dipping his chin toward the cleaning supplies in the girl's hands.

From behind, another voice joined the fray, throwing baseless accusations around like rose petals at a wedding. Just because he'd lobbed a dungbomb once or twice and happened carry one upon his person presently didn't mean he was responsible for the current mess. Besides, he'd never actually tried using exploding bon-bons, a mistake he intended on correcting in the near future. At least Ms. Decipio spared a moment to suggest the Hufflepuff girl might be culprit too, though Finnegan deemed it unlikely, messing up an entire classroom was well beyond the scope and scale of what most first-years dared attempt.

Evelynn's eyes were back on him, looking down at... his hands? He felt the sudden urge to cross his arms defiantly over his chest, hiding his stubby fingers from further scrutiny. What had put her in such a bad mood today? The Evelynn he remembered from Summer Camp had been a little stern too, but far friendlier. "Last time I used that spell I turned my spilled tea into a sticky sludge." For once he felt good at being rather poor at charms, though he failed to mentioned he had improved somewhat since. "You'll have more luck setting kunekune pigs loose in there you do, he added in a half-hearted persuasion attempt.

"Fine. I'll do it," he said after a brief silence, "But only if you come back to the Quidditch team, Ms. Decipio. We need you. Can you believe we lost every single game last year?" She was the reason he'd pursued Quidditch at all and he'd always regretted not having been able to play with her on the team. From what he'd gathered, she'd been the star player and frankly, the current Gryffindor team was in dire need of a star.

His expression softened a little and though he had yet to cast the scouring charm, he did at least drop his arms and reached into his robes, trying to find his wand. Unfortunately, both Ms. Duke and Ms. Decipio would be able to spot an unused dungbomb poking out of an inner pocket on his robes. He frankly had entirely forgotten he carried it with him as he'd come into the possession of it by happenstance and stuffed it away for use on a rainy day. Ms. Duke could scarcely hope for a better chance to shift the blame on someone else, but would she seize upon it?

Finnegan, seemingly oblivious to his incriminating possessions, held his wand at the ready and gave a curt nod in Ms. Decipio's direction. "If this goes horrid..." the 'it will be your fault' that followed was silent.

"Don't you have someone to hang out with today?"
"Not really..." Suzuki hadn't really ever hung out with anyone on Valentine's Day. Even previous to Hogwarts, his mother had always been busy- not with a date, but with work. And Christian had a girlfriend to tend to.
"Also, I have been curious about this... But why are you not using your wand to clean up the mess rather? You look like you might be a third or fourth year, so ...? Or is it not taught yet? I just kind of know the spell, I have seen it being used but I don't know how to use it myself."
"Er, yeah, I know the spell, Scourgify. I forgot my wand, though," he replied lamely. It sounded like a dumb excuse, and Suzuki didn't know what else to say. "But sometimes it's nice to do things with your hands instead of using magic, and it's not like I have anything better to do today. I must sound like a Muggle right now. But... Aside from that, what's your name? I'm Kage Suzuki. Third year here."

Glancing away from the girl, he halfheartedly watched the argument going on between the other two Gryffindor students. Now that they'd mentioned it, he did wonder who had created such a mess. A brokenhearted student, perhaps? Frustrated by the prospect of a lonely Valentine's Day, they'd decided to create a mess in one of the classrooms and destroy everyone else's. But why here specifically? If it had been up to him, Suzuki could think of multitudes of other locations better fit for the task.
