A Badger Among Snakes
Nellie was a Hufflepuff for a reason. While she wasn't dumb, she wasn't super smart, either. She loved books, but really only the kinds with stories. Worst of all, she really didn't pick up on new subjects and ideas quickly. This meant that in the girl coming from the muggle world was far behind the eight ball when it came to anything to do with the wizarding world, especially magic. The study room was a room she'd frequently made use of as her dorm could get noisy, to put it mildly.
Today, the subject she found herself studying was her least favorite. Herbology. The girl was fairly sure that feeling that way about the subject made her a terrible Hufflepuff, but it was what it was. It didn't change the fact that she hated it. Her mind constantly wandered away from the subject at hand, usually for some day dream or another. It was a struggle to reign herself in, but she'd managed to do it for the last five minutes or so. At least that was what she told herself while she sketched a mandrake on the parchment in front of her. It was important to know what the plants looked like, right? Any looking might see some skill in the sketch. At the very least, you could tell what it was. However, Nellie was eleven and needed some development yet. As she sketched, every now and then she'd push her glasses up her nose and onto her face.

Reginald was ecstatic the first time he got his hands on the defense against the dark arts book. He had read the word and instantly fallen in love with the sport of dueling. Battling another magical with your hard-earned ability? check! High stakes? Check! Injury-prone? Check! It was the perfect sport for him, but he had been so disappointed that they barely taught dueling spells in the castle, and that most of them were extracurricular, leading the uneducated first year to pull at his book and waddle into the study room to see if some extended study time might help him learn enough to perform when he steps foot in a circuit.
But hey, he's always been good under pressure! Surely this is no different.
He sat at a nearby table, and opened his defense against the dark arts book, flipping through the pages until he found a spell he believed could actually stop an opponent and not just tickle them till the end of time, he began to read in silence.
....2 minutes....3 minutes... Okay, this was not how he learned. But before he closed his book completely, he saw something in the corner of his eye. "Is that a vegetable- holy, it's a drawing!" He said, trying to keep his voice down. Not the library, sure. But it's still not nice to be loud while people want to learn.
He just stared daggers at the drawing, as the person continued on her mission. Trying his best to puzzle out what it was she drew exactly, but unfortunately failed. It looked like a horrid mix of a carrot and a person but in vegetable form.

A Badger Among Snakes
The day was quite chilly and boring, Elisa had decided to finally give up on pranking and troublemaking for a day to focus on Astronomy, the worst subject of all according to her, there was just something about that particular subject that made her hate it, maybe the boring lecture or the reason of staying up late,
by Ulysses Drake
As she walked towards a table with her book, she noticed a Hufflepuff girl sitting on the table, Elisa ignored the girl and sat in front of her, the young blonde slowly started writing down her homework while taking reference to the Astronomy book which she had previously found in one of the shelves, the girl instantly got into study mode, a type of phase in the young girl which reawakened only during study hours since no matter what, Elisa surely wasn't the type to live with an "Acceptable"
As the girl kept on writing, her eyes fell onto the paper of the Hufflepuff girl in front of her, the girl seemed to be trying to draw a Mandrake, which was quite easy but the Hufflepuff girl seemed to be suffering with it, At first Elisa decided not to bug into others business but she couldn't stop herself when she heard a familiar voice speak something,
After a while, Elisa finally decided to help out the girl by whispering to her, "Try making the edge of the Mandrake curve while the legs be a big pointed", she then went back to her book but that is when it hit her, she knew the previously heard voice, the young Slytherin instantly turned back to see Reggie, a guy she had met while swimming in the lake, "Heya Reg" muttered out of her mouth, as she got back into her book....

The mandrake was proving to be a challenge. Maybe it was because she was more used to sketches of people. It was also entirely possible that she was struggling with so simple a thing because she did not have one in front of her. Beyond that, she'd only seen the magical plant once. There were few that were as critical of the Hufflepuff's work as Nellie herself. Thankfully, she remained blissfully unaware of the scrutiny in which the Slytherin boy studied her work. Her focus had shifted from learing about herbology to drawing the mandrake. For the moment, the purpose of her visit to the study room remained forgotten.
It was Elisa's voice that pulled her from her focus. Where many might have been insulted by the suggestion, the girl pushed up her glasses and took it in stride. Giving a nod, she began to erase the parts in which revisions had been suggested. "Thanks. It's just a doodle, but-" The greeting to another in the room interupted her words and called her attention from her sketch towards where Elisa had directed it. The smile she gave the boy was a bit shy but no less warm. Though once she realized where his attention had been resting, her cheeks took on a pink hue betraying her embarrasment. Turning her attention back to the drawning, she worked to make the changes. Even a doodle was apparently something she took seriously.
