The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Dale was terrified, as soon as he entered the castle he knew he did not fit in. Everyone around him was from an established wizarding family, and there he was, little Dale Kurt born from 2, as the wizards called them, muggles.
The sorting ceremony gave Dale a few grey hairs, the sorting hat scared Dale, what if it made a mistake.
But Dale did his research and knew what house he wanted to be in was Ravenclaw, a house for people who love to learn just like him, he could only hope he was meant for Ravenclaw.
"DALE KURT!", yelled the sorting hat. He quickly stood up and walked over to the stool, "Yes I see, curious and ambitious, ah a lizard lover as well, a good fit for SLYTHERIN!", and right then Dale's worst fears where realized, it was the one house he thought he would not be in. Worry not boy, you shall make a fin Slytherin. Dale still worried, but nevertheless, he got up and sat at the Slytherin table stress about the next 7 years.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
The young girl's nerves had never been so taut in her short life. As she looked around, brown eyes wide with awe, she couldn't help but stand in wonder. To think her, Claire Bell, would finally be attending Hogwarts. Why, it was just so terribly incredible!
'I can't believe this is happening. Mother said it was amazing, but I never thought it would be quite like this.' Claire thought to herself, watching as a ghost without a head drifted passed her shoulder. She shivered at the touch, a wry grin softly surfacing on her features. Wicked.
The ghost passed on, not noticing or caring, until it reached the far table, where Claire's eyes caught the fabrics of emerald green. She had never had a preference for which house she would join, and looking at each she was filled with an almost hopeless sense of indecision. Her mother had been a Ravenclaw truth be told, and her father a Gryffindor. Neither had inspired her greatly, though Claire knew she carried traits of both.
Then, ofcourse, there was always the options of Hufflepuff and Slytherin. She didn't think she was 'people friendly' enough for Hufflepuff and Slytherin had a reputation that made her father squirm. Actually, her father would be very upset if she was sorted in to Slytherin, no doubt about it. Better off not for either.
"Claire Bell."
She blinked in surprise, looking up at the Professor who had called her name. Their face was expectant, and as Claire stared, she realized in belated mortification she probably should have been walking twelve seconds ago.
"Oh, right." She whispered not very quietly, walking forward and doing her best to hide the blush on her cheek from the eyes that seemed to watch her from every corner of the room.
The Professor gently sat the sorting hat upon her crown and the warm voice her father had warned her about began to speak, "A Bell, is it? Yes, I see. Clever and studious like your mother, but brave and loyal like your father. You have a kind, eager heart that craves understanding for those easily misunderstood and feared. You'd do wonderfully in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor, there's no denying that, but I sense an ambition that only one House can truly nurture. Yes, better be....SLYTHERIN!"
Applause and cheers from the chosen table filled Claire's ears, bringing an uncontrollable smile to the young child's face, despite the incredible shock she still felt at the news. She'd actually done it! Claire Bell was officially a Hogwarts student now.
As she sat down next to her peers and housemates, the smile refused to diminishes, even as the horrid thoughts of owling her parents the details sat in the crevices of her thoughts like a overly hungry dementor.
Well, there was no use aching over spoiled milk, as her grandfather would say. Tonight she would feast and eat all the deserts her mother had never let her, and tomorrow...
Tomorrow, Claire would start worrying about the inevitable Howler that would be sure to follow.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Merle shuffled into the hall surrounded by fellow children, still somewhat unsure of what exactly was about to happen. As she stepped in, the very first thing she saw was the great arched ceiling. She stared - mouth gaping and mesmerized - at the wispy clouds drifting across the inky night sky, the constellations even more vivid and beautiful than she could have imagined.
She was rudely awakened from her reverie when the crowd of babbling children pushed forward into the hall, moving her with them. She couldn't help but be enthralled by the other sights around her. The laden tables of food reminded her that in her excitement, she'd forgotten to eat lunch except for the few candies she had on the train.
"Dunn, Muriel!" cried a voice from the front of the hall.
Was it her turn already? Merle made her way forward and sat upon the stool. She couldn't help but curl in on herself slightly under the gaze of the entirety of the hall. Her stomach had twisted itself into anxious, nervous little knots. Suddenly her anxiety dissipated when she realized she could no longer see all the people staring at her, which she immediately after realized was due to the fact that the strange, old, dusty hat she'd seen was now on her head.
"Strange, old, and dusty am I?" said an unknown voice directly into her mind.
Merle froze, the hat could talk?
"Indeed I can, but that's not the focus here. We need to figure out what house you belong in." The hat hummed. "I see that you have traits that could benefit you in any of the houses, but we couldn't put you in all four, now could we? No, there's always one that will benefit the young witch or wizard the most.
"You're independent and somewhat headstrong which could serve you well in Gryffindor. But you're not particularly rowdy are you?"
No, Merle thought, being surrounded primarily by rowdy people would get tiring quickly.
"You tend to have a habit of collecting and reusing things, I see. Very resourceful but also equally creative. Overall, you're very creative and individualistic. I think you'd do well in Ravenclaw."
"Ravenclaw!" cried the hat.
Merle blinked and as her vision cleared she saw a group of students swathed in blue standing and cheering. She smiled and made her way to her new table.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Julian stayed waiting outside the door of the Great Hall she heard so much about. The vast amount of rambling students left her head pounding and beg for silence was her immediate focus. Her beautiful and straight platinum hair stayed neatly down her shoulder and she kept a neutral expression on her face. She felt eyes- no, daggers- staring into her cheek as she moved her head over slightly to the right. The green eyes that met with hers seemed to hold hatred, though she did not know why the stranger held such hatred for her. She ignored the lingering stare and kept to herself for the remainder of the wait.
Suddenly, the bronze door began to slowly open in front of her eyes as the bright light of the Great Hall nearly stole her breath. Her mind closed out all the excited mumbles that came from the surrounding students and she seemed to zone out. The light sound that came from the steps of the others arose in her ears and they caused her to snap out of her quiet daydream. She shook her head to allow her mind to focus once more on her surroundings. Like all curious first years, she took a moment to explore the beautiful sight she dreamed of viewing. She allowed for a slight sigh to leave her soft lips as the beauty of the Great Hall mesmerized her.
'Holy shit... I'm here. I'm actually here.' Her thoughts repeated in her head as a sly smirk found its way to her face. A gentle giggle left her lips as excitement arose inside her.
The Sorting Hat sang its song like Julian expected it to. She hummed along with the tune as best as she could, waiting for this opportunity for as long as she could remember. After the blissful song of the Sorting Hat, the ceremony began. The sound of name after name ringing in her ear caused her mind to zoom out once more. She knew the house she wanted, her intelligence and individuality held her up to Ravenclaw's standards. Abruptly, the calling of a name pulled her out of her thoughts. A name. Her name.
"Julian Prado!"
Her eyes widened at the sound of her name, her body feeling frozen. Whispers filled her ears as the students were wondering why she wasn't running up to the hat as the others did. She cursed herself in her head before hesitantly walking up to the stool. She sat down on the wooden stool as she felt the warm wood touch the skin on the back of her lower thighs. She felt weirdly uncomfortable as she knew all eyes were focused on her. A pink blush found its way on her face as she felt the hat being placed on her head.
'Ah, such a peculiar mind. Yes indeed, such a strange choice to make, hm?' Julian felt her breath hitch as she knew that her choice was secure. She hoped that the Sorting Hat would take in count her want- no, need- of Ravenclaw. 'Ravenclaw? Really? I do see that you have the traits. I can clearly feel what you beg for. Well, if it is your preference.' Julian felt a smile curve onto her face as it sounded that he took in her want for Ravenclaw.
"Seems like we've made a choice," Julian looked at the Ravenclaw table with a prideful expression, seeing the students that caught her eye look excited. "SLYTHERIN!"
The ring of Slytherin being yelled across the Great Hall made her stomach plummet and her smile drop. She heard the laughter from the Sorting Hat vibrate inside her ear when she felt the weight of the hat being relieved from her head. Her long legs brought her off the stool as her silent mind was interrupted by the cheering coming from the prideful Slytherins. She cracked a smile towards the Ravenclaw table, the students nodding towards her in acceptance. She then walked over to her new house as the cheers got louder. She felt her awkward smile turn into a bright one as the blush she held from the attention grew brighter and more noticeable. She sat down next to the first and second years that made her disappointment turn into pride. She found comfort in her new house and joined in the cheers before hearing them settle down.

[font=times new Roman]“I'm not taking you to the hospital just because you stubbed your toe.”
Cricket was standing next to a new friend she'd made. They were waiting to go to the Sorting Ceremony, but first they were to listen to Headmaster make a speech, something some people, like Cricket, weren't too keen on hearing.
She was more focused on giggling with the girl next to her, who'd banged her foot against some furniture and was now exaggerating her pain, her face creased with agony and making swooning motions. She was trying to of course get out of the speech and go elsewhere but Cricket didn't want to miss the Sorting Ceremony, and that's where they'd be going right afterwards. Besides, why would anyone want to come in late with everyone staring at them because a barely bruised toe?
The girl gestured for her to play along but Cricket shook her head slightly and pretended to be intent on listening to the speech. She heard a sigh behind her but shrugged her shoulders and moved closer.
“I bet she's not even listening anyways. Or she probably wants to look cool for the Headmaster.”
Cricket shot a glare behind her. She made to say something, something equally as ignorant, but then the crowd of first-years began to move forward. She felt her heart quicken; they were on their way to the Great Hall!
As they walked, Cricket doing so alone but not minding that fact, she looked around at the walls and furniture. She wasn't new to moving pictures but it was still interesting to see the paintings who looked back at her with different expressions. She wondered if she'd get to the know them and if they'd help if she ever had problems.
While she walked she overheard other kids talk about the Houses, and which one they knew they'd get into. She rolled her eyes; there was really no point in talking about that, the Sorting Hat did its job by putting them in one. But she couldn't help but wonder, too, which one would she fit in?
Cricket didn't really understdidt how and why people were sorted into a certain House. Her father was a Hufflepuff, her mother was a Ravenclaw, her older half-sister was a Ravenclaw, and her brother is a Gryffindor. Everyone always compared her to someone in her family but she was like so many people that she couldn't decide which one she was most like. One of her cousin once said that she was just like herself, and that's what it should be.
Now they were entering the Great Hall. It was huge, but maybe it was just the starry ceiling that made it feel that way. There were floating candles four rows of tables, and another line of tables all the way in the back where some of the professors sat. It was both exciting and scary, but Cricket wouldn't admit the latter to anyone, not even herself. She walked with the other first years, her black robes brushing against her ankles, and for some reason all of this, the events and everything, made her feel more like a witch than anything else. She just couldn't put her finger on why, exactly.
When it was her turn to be sorted, after a brief wait—having a last name closer to the beginning of the alphabet had many advantages—Cricket saddled up to the hat and grinned, her teeth gleaming.
“Well, here's an excited one.”
She shrugged. “I just can't wait to be sorted. I hope I'm in Gryffindor.”
“Gryffindor?” the hat scoffed. “I think not, child.”
Cricket narrowed her eyes. “And what does that mean?” Maybe he saw what she saw, that she was just the same as everyone else, but also different. She figured people who were normal with a bit more courage than everyone else got into Gryffindor, and she sure was brave, even more than brave. What did this hat know?
“I think I'm good enough for Gryffindor, so what's with it?”
“It's not about what you're good enough for, young one, but what's good enough for you.” He must of noticed the quizzical look on her face, no matter how brief, because he added, “It may not be clear now but you'll understand when you're older.”
Cricket gripped the chair harder. “...yes, sir...” No one could blame her for her skepticism.
It wasn't a few seconds before he called out, “SLYTHERIN!”
Cricket's eyes nearly popped out of her head. Was this... reality? She had absolutely no idea she would get into this House. She knew of a Pure-blood relative but they were so distant from her family that she felt like she had next to know connection to them. And from rumors she'd heard she didn't think she was a Slytherin...
Cricket wondered, as she walked towards the Slytherin table, if any of the books she'd gotten in Diagon Alley had any information on the Houses. Of course, dumby, she thought. If there's a book about the History of Hogwarts there's bound to be something about the Houses. It sucked that she hated reading, though. And it was too late anyway, any information she would find about how to act a certain way to be sorted into the House she wanted was useless at this point.
Cricket felt like someone was staring at her and turned around, ready to glare, but then she caught sight of something—no, someone: her brother.
Cricket smiled weakly, lifting her hand. Owen had a hard look on his face, his thick brows furrowed so close that it almost resembled one line. But when he really noticed her his face clear and he nodded, but she still could feel how upset he was. He probably felt like he couldn't protect her anymore now that she was in a different House but Cricket wanted to tell him not to worry, she could take care of herself.
She looked away and watched the other kids get sorted. It was going to be an interesting next seven years at Hogwarts, and not just because she was sorted into Slytherin. It was as if something was telling her that she had a lot in store and this was just the beginning of the unexpected.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Although her grandparents had insisted otherwise, Summer's father had told her that she was not like the rest of her Ravenclaw blooded family. He had explained to her that she had many traits of her late muggle mother. Summer had forced herself not to tear up back then on platform nine and three-quarters. The thought of leaving a home she had just adjusted to and the added mention of her mother had almost been too much, but Summer had managed by giving her father a quick kiss on the cheek and jumping onto the train.
That thought was coming back to her now as she let herself sit on the chair for Sorting. This is supposed to be really important for wizards and witches, isn't it? He father had said something of the sort.
Ah, did he now? A Hearst, I see. I remember your blood.
The voice was sudden, and Summer took a second or two to realize it was from the hat that was now placed on her head. She wasn't sure how to speak back to it, but it did the talking for her just fine.
You don't think like the other Hearsts. Not raised like them I assume? A halfblood? Interesting. You have a hardworking side, that is true. Yet... a lot of ambition.
"What does that mean?" Summer whispered, confused. She felt the urge to blow strands of her blonde hair out of her face. "Is that bad?"
No. It means.... SLYTHERIN! The Hat fell silent, and Summer got up, her eyes landing on her House's table.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
It seemed to be that time; the time when she arrived to Hogwarts for the first time. It was a nervous time for the young eleven-year-old Korean girl. Even though she was able to speak fluent English, it still made her wonder if others were able to understand her. Quietly, she followed the large group of students to the Great Hall after the little boat ride. Her brown eyes looked around, taking in all the sights. The place was beautiful!
As soon as the Great Hall doors opened, all the new students, including herself filed into the room. The child looked up and saw candles floating up above the tables all around the room. There was even purple and dark blue sky with stars in them. If she thought the Entrance Hall was beautiful, the sight she was seeing was remarkable!
Finally, there was someone who was giving a speech and it brought her attention to what was going. In a way as she stood there, she wondered was the school in the Japanese mountains was like. If her family hadn’t moved to England when she was younger, she wouldn’t be attending Hogwarts, but there she was, standing in the Great Hall. Sun-Hi then listened and waited as each student was called up to the old worn hat that was enchanted.
The wait was becoming more and more nerve wrecking for the foreigner. Sun-Hi raised her hand to her lips and began to chew on her nails. She knew it was a bad habit, but it was something she did out of nervousness.
“Sun-Hi Park.” It was then she heard her name finally. ‘Wait… Did I hear that right? My name was called?’ The eleven-year-old thought as she made her way to the front.
When she made it to the front, she slightly tripped over herself and almost fell down when she heard a little laughter around her. Her cheeks had turned pink from embarrassment. Luckily, she didn’t fall down completely and got her balance back. To avoid anymore embarrassment, the Korean girl sat down on the stool with her hands clasped and set on her lap.
“Ahhh yes…” When she heard the voice, she remained calm since she had been expecting it because of others who had been sorted into their houses before herself. “I know where to put you… GRYFFINDOR” The sorting hat was taken off her head as she heard cheers from a certain table. Sun-Hi hopped off the stool and walked over towards where the loud cheers and clapping was coming from and she looked up to see the cardinal red and yellow-gold colored banner with a lion in the middle. She knew immediately that was the Gryffindor table. Her legs carried her over to an empty spot and she sat down on the bench.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
Shay walked through the doors of Hogwarts. She stood in the line for sorting. Butterflies scattered in her stomach. She'd been dreaming of the day, now she dreads it. Today, she'd be getting sorted into her house, either Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin. She looked at all the tables. There were four, one for each house. One red, one blue, one green, and one yellow. At the red table, she saw her older brother, Lincoln. He had gotten into Gryffindor, he didn't expect the same house out of her though. Finally, it was Shays turn. She stepped up the stage and sat in the chair.
The sorting hat was placed up-top of her head. Knowing her brother was there, she felt calmer. The hat mumbled. The sorting hat is an enchanted hat that sorts all the students to their houses. The hat twisted and turned, finally, it spoke.
"Hm, you're smart, perhaps smart enough for Ravenclaw, but no, there's something there stopping you from being sorted into that house." It said, looking around the room. Shay was nervous, her parents joked about her being a Ravenclaw, but deep down, she knew they didn't really think that. The hat spoke some more, about which house Shay would perhaps be in, but in the end, it yelled,

"HUFFLEPUFF!"
No matter what people say, you're beautiful just the way you are. You don't have to change to fit in, just be yourself. People who want to be friends with you when you're your true self are real friends.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
“Arc Perscivious,” said the Deputy Headmaster. His voice was loud and it could probably be heard from one end of the room to the other, but he didn’t seem to be yelling. Interesting. The boy that was called didn’t have the time to ponder about the magical nature of the Deputy Headmaster’s voice, though.
He immediately stood up and walked as calmly as he could. Or at least, he tried. He could say that he was not excited but that would be lying. Arc Perscivious took deep breaths to try to control his thumping heart as he moved closer and closer to the Sorting Hat. He tried to clear his mind as well, but unneeded thoughts came intruding. Would he be sorted into Hufflepuff? Would he be a Gryffindor like his father? Could he be a Slytherin like his dear brother or his never-seen grandfather? Would the Sorting Hat say something embarrassing about him?! This was nerve-wrecking!
The hat was pretty far from where he had been and he had taken deliberate slow and steady steps, but he still didn’t feel like he was ready when he reached the stool where the hat resided. The scrawny kid was so nervous, everything came into a haze. Arc didn’t even remember how or when he had sat in the stool and… Oh, no! The hat was already on his head. What would it say about hi… “Ravenclaw.” The Sorting Hat said plainly. Um. Ah. That was it? No magical pondering? No debate of his personality or moral compass or something? The Ravenclaw table cheered and the realization finally hit him. He was a Ravenclaw now.
“A Ravenclaw, huh?” Arc muttered quietly to himself, a smile crept up on his finally relaxed face.
That was neat.

The Sorting ceremony 2018-2019
The Great Hall lived up to its name in one regard, it certainly was large. You could throw imposing and crowded in too, Bastian was trying not to focus on all of that right now. Being one of the shorter students he'd managed to shuffle down towards the end of the crowd of students waiting to be sorted, gripping the book in his pocket with one hand as his eyes flickered up towards the ceiling and back down again. Even with all the fuss going on around him, he could always appreciate the night sky and the one currently covering the ceiling was gorgeous.
As the group moved forwards he continued to hold onto his book, his other hand moving unconsciously, tracing the patterns made by the stars covering the ceiling while taking short glances at the room around him. Four long tables, two on each side of the hall. Above them were brightly coloured banners representing the houses. Red, yellow, blue and green.
They'd told him to aim for green, Slytherin house, before he came here. He didn't have anything against the house but ambitious and cunning weren't the first words he'd have chosen to describe himself. They'd have learned that too if they bothered to interact with him outside of his "Learn to act like a convincing Pureblood in time for Hogwarts" lessons. Then again he didn't particularly want to interact with them either so he shouldn't complain. His gaze then moved across to the red table, Gryffindor. That was the other house they'd mentioned, the one they wanted him to avoid. He didn't think they had anything to worry about there, bravery and daring were all very nice to read about but he didn't consider himself either of those things. Unless curiosity counted as bravery if it were acted upon?
He shook his head, brushing the thoughts aside. If worst came to worst he'd probably just get a passive aggressive letter and throw it out. Now that the group had reached the front of the hall he could just about make out the stool where an old fashioned hat stood and..began rhyming? For the first time since he'd entered the hall a smile crossed his face. What a funny little hat, randomly breaking out in rhyme like that. Heh, apparently, it was contagious because now he was at it. So this hat was going to sort them into their houses? It must have taken a powerful enchantment to work that one out, something he'd hopefully be able to figure out someday. He wanted a whole house full of talking objects by the time he left school!
"Bastian Lovell"
His head suddenly shot up at the mention of his name. Oh dear, he'd been so lost in thought that he'd nearly missed his name being called. He shuffled through the remaining students as he moved to the front of the crowd and reached the hat. He sat down on the stool and gently placed the hat on his head, the brim covering part of his face. He wasn't sure if the hat counted as a sentient being but it was close enough to the point where he didn't really want to hurt it, especially since it was the one deciding where he'd live for the next seven years.
Interesting, looks like we have another Lovell here, nothing like those before you. Of course, that would be because you weren't one to begin with. Your mother, however, yes I did sort her.
Bastian, who had barely reacted when the hat had begun to speak, figuring that it probably needed silence to work through his mind, suddenly became interested. His mother? He knew he had a mother, although father had never really spoken about her. He supposed it made sense that she was a witch, he'd never seen father do anything magical throughout the ten years they spent together. So did that mean that those people knew of her? They had to have had some way of knowing he was magical before they took him in, they'd been so confident in calling him a wizard after all.
Now there, all in good time young man. Those are some of the questions you'll have to look into whilst you're here. Yes with a mind like yours I know the perfect house for you, better be RAVENCLAW!
He moved his gaze towards the table with the blue banner who had broken out in sudden applause. He supposed Ravenclaw was a good fit for him, plus it got him out of the Slytherin/Gryffindor dilemma. People seemed to see Ravenclaw as the smart house, they couldn't complain about that. If they did, well he couldn't say he cared all that much. Placing the hat down he sat at the end of the long bench alongside the appropriate table, made a mental note about what the hat had told him and turned to watch the next person be sorted.
Everyone has a a story~
