A Flower For A Crush

I smiled as Lily’s observation. She was right, after all. “Yes, it was the queens dog. You now gave me two reasons to make that my nickname. I love dogs, but never had a pet. My parents refused to let me get a pet.” I shrugged. “They thought it was too much responsibility, and I see where they’re coming from. Dogs are a lot. But second, if corgis were the queens dog, then that makes you my queen. You ARE my queen now, Lily. I wanted you to be that first time I saw you.” I smiled at her, hoping I wasn’t getting too mushy. “I hope this isn’t too much for you. You know, not many people could endure some lovesick first-year following them around like a well, puppy!” I laughed at my own joke, thinking I was hilarious. I listened about Colin, and smiled at Lily’s description of him. “You know, I might not that that bit so much. I always wanted a younger sibling. My parents, well, you can guess what they said. I suppose I was enough to handle on my own.” I shrugged again. “So bring him with us. I can endure the teasing. And I better learn to get on his good side if I want to stay with you.” I stood up, and helped Lily to her feet. “Want to go to the Leaky Cauldron? I heard they have some amazing food there.” But then, I knew I had to ask a very important question, one I feared to ask. “Lily, sweetheart, I need you to listen to me closely. I know this hurts a lot, but I need to know.” I took a deep breath. “How did your parents die?”

Lily gave Bailey a wide smile. "I had a small hamster when i was 6 but it passed on." She listened to him talking about the queen's dog and her being his queen. Lily blushed a scarlet as she laughed slightly. "Of I'm your queen then you're my king in shinging armor." Lily said with a smile and laughed at the lovesick puppy part. "Hey when i was a firstie i had a crush, several in fact, and while they didnt know, i would watch them in class. Maybe that's why my academic average is only an A." She frowned slightly as he asked about going to the Leaky Cauldron. "That's in Diagon Alley. I don't think we're allowed to leave school grounds unless on a Hogsmeade weekend." Lily said looking at him and his curls with a smirk. And then he asked how his parents died and Lily's smile dropped and her shoulders fell. "Car accident. It was really bad. My mom died from an arterial tear and dad died from an internal bleeding. We had had a fight the day previous and a truck had blown through a red light and ran right into the side of the car." Lily stopped tears running down her face. "I was their only family around because the authorities didn't know about Colin and his family until they stepped up to take me. And because i was their only family i had to identify the bodies." Lily ran a hand through her hair staring out across the lake.

I smirked. It was funny that I didn’t know the rules of this place, since I would try my hardest to follow it at home. But I wasn’t at home. Not yet, anyways. I knew Hogwarts should feel like home, but it didn’t. I loved being with Lily, she was so much fun. It was cool knowing she had a crush as firstie. I was curious on who, but I didn’t ask. It was great she wanted to be with me. I silently promised myself I would share everything I had with her and Colin, they were my school family now. When Lily told me how her parents died, my heart dropped. I felt numb. Coming from a non magical world, car accidents were nothing new. In fact, they were to be expected. That’s the risk of driving. In life, there are always risks we must take, or we don’t go anywhere. I didn’t say anything to Lily, but when she began to cry, I felt horrible. I took both her hands in mine, lifted them to my mouth, and kissed them. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t know. I didn’t know about your parents. But I know this. Your parents loved you, and they will always love you no matter what. Death ends a life, it doesn’t end a relationship.” I paused, tears running down my face, and said with a little laugh, “Read that somewhere.” I had made my mind up about something else, too. “I’ll write home. Tell my parents about you and Colin. They’d love to meet you, I know it. You can come visit whenever you want. They’ll treat you like their own. I think my mom always wanted a daughter, secretly.” I looked into Lilys eyes for a moment, then joined her gaze out across the lake. “Beautiful, isn’t it?”
