Kit had never tried broom racing before. For someone who loved quidditch, the freedom of flying around on a broom, and had available time as much as summer at Hogwarts would provide with its large assortment of activities, the Beauxbatons girl was almost disappointed with herself. Almost. But when there was someone offering a small open broom racing competition, Kit was absolutely agreeing to it. Surely broom racing would also make good quidditch practice, right? At the very least, she was sure it would be fun and an opportunity to meet some other people. Who could say no to that?

Kit adjusted her hair while haphazardly pinning her broom to her side as she wandered over- just barely on time, sticking a couple more bobby pins into crimson curls with a slight wince as she checked that the two space buns would actually stay in place for the moment and hopefully the whole race too. Wishful thinking on her part, but an attempt was made. She smiled upon seeing the people though, dropping her task (but not the remaining bobby pins) to wave at Alyssea and the other racers. It was almost a surprise seeing two somewhat familiar faces (Aryaan, Theodore) from a quidditch game the summer before, a small tilt of her head and an arched eyebrow with a crooked smile of slight recognition before she glanced towards the unfamiliar students.

Avery would be the first to introduce themselves, Kit grinning as she extended her own hand to shake. "Hello! Kit Felix from Beauxbatons, it's lovely to meet you as well!" His enthusiasm was rather contagious, finding her own smile widening and some light laughter escaping. "You ready for some fun?" It was hardly a question that needed answering, the Beauxbatons student suspecting she very well knew the answer. Continuing in his footsteps, she would also move to greet the other students with a similar introduction of name and school. Kit was pretty sure it was only events like these that she ever actually mentioned what school she went to, Beauxbatons feeling less and less like a name every time she said it.

While Kit had already suspected as much, Alyssea would confirm the teen's suspicions that she was a nice and thoughtful person as she mentioned trying not to get too injured. Small laughter escaped the Beauxbatons student, all too familiar with bludger hits in practice or high speed crashing into other people both accidentally and trying to catch them from a further fall. A brief glance at the course offered little information for comparison, but it didn't seem too bad if Kit kept control of her broom. She shrugged as she offered, "it's all part of the game. I appreciate you looking out for us!" An added thumbs up indicated Kit was ready, a wide grin as green eyes scanned the course anticipating what was to come.

Spending her summer at camp hadn't been Samantha's preference this year. In the years before, she would have loved to spend more time at this magical place, but this year she just wanted to be home. She just wanted to see her family again. The last time she had seen her parents and sister had been during the Christmas break. During all the breaks after, her parents had told her to stay at Hogwarts without giving a good reason. What she had noticed is that keeping herself busy, kept her distracted from the drama going on at home. That was also reason why she had signed up for the broom race without having any previous experience.

When she arrived at the field she saw many unfamiliar faces. When she saw the familiar smile from Avery welcome her, she realized he really was the only one she knew. Holding the broom one of her friends given to her for the race, Samantha waved back. Her flying wasn't nearly as good as her duelling skills. Once the flying classes weren't mandatory anymore, the girl had dropped them. There were more important subjects that deserved her attention. Besides, she already knew the basics and never expected to join a broom sport. Duelling had her whole heart.

"Better than yours?" she repeated with a raised eyebrow. "Of course it is. What kind of question is that," the girl replied confidently. Admitting she was worse than somebody else wasn't something Samantha liked to do. Which was clearly because she was better than average in everything. If anybody would have told her about the better than average bias, she would even believe that it didn't apply to her. After all, she could be good at everything if she wanted.

Shamsi had shown up fashionably late, because he was cool like and totally not because he had completely forgotten that he had said he’d play and then subsequently all but forgotten about it. Carrying his trusty broomstick over his shoulder like those anime guys did with the large blades they carried around, he was sure to have cut a figure.
Already gathered here were Alyssea, the organizer of the event, as well as some Hogwarts people – one was Avery, who played Chaser for Hogwarts, but he didn’t know the older Hogwarts lady.
Who he DID know, though, was Kit; a fellow flyer who he had flown both with and against in the Hogwarts trips.
“He-he-heeeey KIIIIIIIIT,” he all but yelled at the Frenchwoman as he approached. “Fancy seeing you here, of all places! What, are you gonna try and outfly me here as well?”
His words had no heat – in fact he was almost grinning at the idea of being up in the air again.
He then realised that some of the other people were giving introductions; perhaps he should too. “Don’t worry everyone; the hero, Aryaan SHamsi is here to set some fireworks and- uhh” he looked around. “wait for other people to show up? Wait is this everyone?”

None of this is a good idea, Miharu knows that so well. What would her mother think? No, don’t answer that, she already knows, she’s smart enough to know her mother’s reaction if she ever finds out that she participated in a silly broom race. But what was she supposed to do during summer camp? Read books all day? Yeah, maybe she could do that but broom racing can be considered as broom riding practice… right? Right. But would her mother think that way? No.

It’s a silly game, Miharu isn’t allowed to waste her time on such things that aren't studying or Quidditch. In other words, fun shouldn’t be in her dictionary. But Miharu can be curious and surely enough, she’d crave for new things even if she knows it’s something that’ll disobey her parents. Doing something fun once in a while wouldn’t hurt them hopefully. It would be much better that none of this ever reaches her parents. She’d be a disappointment. Why are her parents so strict?

Well, forget about it for now. Better get her head in the game. She soon joined her teammates, giving them a polite bow. “Miharu Goto, from Mahoutokoro. Nice to meet you all.” She introduced herself, giving each of her companions a quick look and then their opponents. Shamsi-senpai is in the other team and sure would love to be on the same team as him but that’s because he’s much more familiar to her and Miharu isn’t exactly a people person.

Theo was excited. Years ago the young Ilvermorny had given up racing for his own school after being thrown off his broom pretty violently, to not worry his poor parents so much, who were rather displeased. Not that they were any more pleased by his new activity, which mainly consisted of tackling metal balls and smashing them into other children, but Theo had learned to stop trying to meet any expectations. They were muggles, what did they know?

So when the chance was there, he signed up for another race. He wasn't a child anymore (and Nichlas wasn't participating, which was a bigger plus than he cared to admit), so surely he'd have a better time than the last time he attempted racing? Even his broom was way better than the one he used then.

When he lined up at the start, the Thunderbird looked around at his opponents. Yeah, that was another thing that changed, he was not among the youngest anymore, no, by the looks of it, he even was the oldest around. Surely the track had been chosen to not murder any of the youngsters? So if they could survive it, surely he would be able to, easily.

It was a smaller group than any of the quidditch games Kit had been a part of, but surely that would make it more entertaining. Despite just barely being on time, it seemed as though the girl was actually faster than most as others kept wandering in to shuffle into their teams. While Avery and Kit were in competition, the next two arriving in the club area would be from her team- a Samantha that knew Avery and had confidence that Kit nodded along to with a smile as she overheard part of the conversation. And a Shamsi that she heard before she saw, turning to greet him with a grin.

"ARYAAN, the Champion himself-" She called back, eyebrows raised in teasing challenge. "Well, of course, maybe you can even learn a few tricks along the way." She shrugged lightly, glancing away with a smile. "Unless this is when you think the mentee will become the mentor?" It had gotten pretty close last time after all, and she was curious to see if he had improved in the time between.

"Have fun, good luck!" Kit shouted as the race started, kicking off into the air as she adjusted to the idea of the goal being to move forward rather than try and grab something or knock someone off. All three could still be done though, eyes glancing around to see who would make a good target for potential strikes- though upon second glance, it seemed their teammate had already chosen someone as Samantha brought her wand out to aim a spell at Theodore's broom, a streak of light flashing through the air that the girl hardly ever saw from her own wand. Not even a minute in and her team was already making moves- Kit could only smile with some strange sense of pride.

"NICE! Oh sh-" Turning her head back to actually see what she was going, Kit stared directly into the bright lights that she definitely should not have, blinking against the hole of light that burned directly into her eyes- right: new environment, pay attention. This was not the quidditch pitch as much as Kit wanted to treat it as such. Those spots floating in her vision would be reminder enough, but it wouldn't stop her from her chosen action- a hit and run.

The target? Theodore. He was the oldest of the team- of either team actually- and attacking younger children, as much as this was a competition with no actual or prolonged harm intended, was something Kit preferred to avoid when possible. And, despite Sam's spell, he still remained on his broom with the intent to rush further ahead, maybe even speed along further than Kit- and that simply wouldn't do. Still relatively in line with the pack, now seemed the perfect opportunity as she veered towards Shamsi first in the open space.

"You ever wanted to try out Beater?" She asked, a raised eyebrow and nod towards the other two racers. Then, not waiting for an answer, the girl rushed forward accelerating towards Theodore. Not entirely sure the actual form, Kit went for full speed and impact, bouldering straight into the fifth year and almost getting tangled as the fifth year was forcefully ejected from atop his broom. No wonder blatches were typically caught with how the broom seemed to stutter before falling, removing any leftover momentum the girl might have had. With no whistle blown though, Kit glanced back expectantly to see if Shamsi had taken up her idea/competition.

He had, or it certainly seemed like it from where his broom headed right towards Avery- a score to settle was always good motivation, cleanly swiping the other off his broom as he joined Theodore on the ground. Sam caught up at this point from her focused spell cast and Miharu seemed to have taken the opportunity of varied distractions to rush off from the violence- a fair move when the whole point was to reach the end first. Right- this was a whole other sport, even if still on brooms. Time to keep going.

Breathe, focus. This is Miharu's first time doing Broom Racing and she will admit that she does feel quite nervous about it even though she may look calm on the outside. It's gotta be a little bit similar to Quidditch, no? Instead of dodging bludgers, she needs to get through tons of obstacles and possibly, attacks from their opponents which includes blatching and spells. While blatching isn't that new as it is part of Quidditch even though it is considered as a foul move, the use of spell in a broom sport is unheard of.

She just hopes that no spells nor blatches come her way at the beginning of the race. While she does feel confident with her dodging skills, she is here with seniors, those with better experiences than her. Sure, maybe some of them are in the same situation as her, being new to this whole Broom Racing thing but they are still a lot more skilled than her when it comes to broom riding. “Focus…” that's right, she needs to focus on herself, up her performance so as to not be a burden to her team despite being the youngest.

Miharu waited patiently until their moderator signaled for the start, immediately going for building distance from their opponents. While the rest of the team had the same idea as hers, they weren't as lucky as hers in the end. She squinted her eyes due to the blinding bright light and she swears that probably had affected her in some ways as she found herself crashing onto some of the tree branches. At least, she's still on her broom unlike her teammates.

Who knew that the other team would go on the offensive tactics immediately. All of them went for the attack, eyes were on Theodore and Avery. While Miharu felt bad for the two, she was glad that it wasn't her at least. Would she remain safe though? Probably not. She can tell how brutal this sport is and she will definitely find herself falling onto the ground at some point.
