"Hi there," the cheery-looking blonde girl to her left grinned widely at Senna. "Glad to have that be done and over with, huh? It's pretty nerve-wracking."

Senna gave the girl a small nod and a smile, for many thoughts continued to swarm around in her head, and she was still trying to comprehend the fact that a magical hat had just read her mind for a solid minute. She figured she'd at least offer her name to the girl, though, for she'd been nothing but nice so far. "It's Senna. Senna Lynne Southwind."

Any homeschooled Muggle from a wealthy family had undoubtedly taken etiquette courses. Being polite and staying out of trouble were principles Senna had been raised on since she was old enough to speak. Ignoring anyone who'd made an effort to converse with you was an extremely rude gesture, so despite her very introverted personality, Senna knew that the effort to reciprocate conversation with the girl felt nothing but necessary. "And yes, I am quite glad it's over with," sighing, she plucked a honey roll from the basket in front of them, placing it on her plate, "but now we have to sit through the rest of them."

A girl called Julian had just been sorted into Gryffindor, and the table of rowdy garnet-clad students hooped and hollered for the girl. A dark haired boy called Ross plopped onto the chair and received the hat next. Senna took her eyes off the front of the hall for a moment and took a few moments to spread some butter onto her roll, cutting the bread with fork and knife. Before she could take a bite, though, a sudden shout of "HUFFLEPUFF!" echoed throughout the room, followed by more thunderous cheers.

Allie let out a small chuckle at the girl's response. "Yeah, but at least it's somewhat fun to see what Houses everyone is going to be sorted into. Did you think that you were going to be sorted into Ravenclaw? I didn't really know which house I would be in to be honest since my mother was a Ravenclaw, but my dad had been a Hufflepuff when they went to school here. Oops!" She let out a little laugh before holding her hand out for Senna to shake. "My apologies, I haven't introduced myself yet, have I? My name is Allison Miriam Jones, but you can just call me Allie if you'd like. Most people do anyway." She shrugged her shoulder's slightly before her attention was refocused to the front of the room by cheers and claps from the neighboring Hufflepuff table. Apparently, there had been another boy sorted into that house while Allie had been talking. She smiled and clapped politely along with the others before turning back to Senna. "What do you think this school year is going to be like? Do you have any subjects that you're looking forward to studying? Personally, I'm looking forward to studying Herbology and Charms.

Lachlan fidgeted awaiting to be called up for sorting. He watched as those who were sorted before him exclaim in glee as their house name was called or look somberly down because they did not get the house they desired. Lachlan came in with no expectations. His mother was a Slytherin and his father a Hufflepuff. He would be happy with either of those as well as Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Each house had qualities that would help him grow as a wizard.

Lachlan’s musing were abruptly interrupted by his name being called. He stood up, took a deep breath, and walked forward; ‘You’ve got this,’ he thought to himself. When he sat down he looked out toward the crowd. There were so many eyes trained on him, waiting to see what happened. It didn’t help his nerves, with so many eyes he began to get anxious, but he steeled them as best he could. Shortly after sitting down the Sorting Hat was placed on his head.

“Hmmm, ah the son of Ragna and Thomas is it? An unlikely couple indeed… yet I can see them both in you. Yet, you are unlike them all the same.”

At this Lachlan furrowed his brows perplexed at what the sorting hat meant.

The sorting hat continued, “Ah yes, yes. I see now. It makes sense… GRYFFINDOR” The sorting hat shouted! A roar from the Gryffindor table erupted. Lachlan’s brow raised, he was a lion! After thanking the sorting hat he walked giddily towards the Gryffindor with a silly smile plastered upon his face.

Lamik Fillestar looked around the great hall, not paying much attention to the old man claiming to be the Headmaster of the castle. After walking through a wall at the train station, the boy was sure that he had just witnessed the most spectacular thing in the world. After all, what could beat a real life steam train where the only adults are the ones selling candy? Nevertheless, by some miracle, Lamik was wrong. The mere thought of living in the giant castle where stairs moved, candles floated, and paintings spoke was both mind blowing and numbing.

None of it was real magic, of course. Real magic didn't exist! Even what appeared to be transparent ghosts and specters must have simply been some form of robot that they always show on television.

Then the hat started singing.

For some strange reason, watching an old hat sitting on a stool start singing was so ridiculous (and so hilarious) that the young boy suddenly became aware that just maybe magic was real.

As much as he wanted to listen to every word of the song, Lamik was too busy trying not to burst into laughter the entire time, though as soon as it ended he managed to focus on what was going on.

As the first few students were called up to be "sorted" a new thought came up: How was he going to communicate with his parents? How was he going to speak with his sister? He couldn't bear the thought of being completely without them for an entire year.

A few minutes of thought later, Lamik heard his name being called. After taking a deep breath and pushing a strand of bright hair from his eyes, the boy walked up to the stool and sat down. As the hat was placed over his head, he heard a two simple phrases in his head:

"What's so hard to believe about magic? No matter."

"Gryffindor!"

Lamik Fillestar stood up the moment the hat was taken off, looking at the table full of clapping kids. With a nervous smile and a newly kindled belief in the mystical, the boy walked towards his house mates.

Donny entered the Great Hall. It was unlike any hall he'd ever seen in his whole life! It was dimly lit by apparently floating candles, hundreds of them over hundreds of students heads! The ceiling was he thought to be imitating the starry night sky, and the brilliant moon crescent that had greeted him earlier on the great lake. There was also grand tables, each wooden with some hint of the four color schemes of the four Hogwarts houses; Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff... and Slytherin. He'd only heard of the four, and had come to know that Gryffindor was probably the house he belonged in... according to his very prejudiced grandfather. The tables were also filled with older students, who's robes were also mirroring a slight color theme. He, along with the rest of the first years, lined up in front of the long staff table. There was a main chair in the middle for the headmaster, and smaller chairs surrounding for the teachers. He saw the deputy headmistress, in her best robes standing sternly in front of the students, holding a long scroll of parchment with the names of the students. She each one aloud, and as each name was called a student would walk sheepishly over to a wooden stool, awaiting their house to be determined.

"Perrywinkle, Donnovan!" the headmistress announced, scanning the crowd and finding her focus on Donny. He wrenched up, stiffly jogging up the steps, and sitting cautiously on the old stool. He scanned the crowd nervously, a few students in black robes with green ties started sneering as he sat down. The headmistress placed the old sorting hat upon his head, and he felt a jolt of life.

"Very Intelligent I see.." the hat began, tilting Donny's head as he did so. "You yearn for the chance to become someone, but are still quite modest yes? You also love a little trouble, hm?" he trailed off. "You value fairness, and second chances, and will always try your best yes?" he asked a second time. Donny held his breath, he was just seeing the howler he'd be sent of his grandfather found that he was put in a different house!

"Better be... Hufflepuff!" yelled the hat. A mild applause followed, obviously more from the Hufflepuff table. He got off the stool, and smirked embarrassed. He went and sat at the Hufflepuff table, greeted by a few high fives, and clapping on the shoulder...

Madelyn entered the Great Hall, taken in by its formidable scale. Her eyes followed the levitating candles over their heads and her lips slowly formed a smile. She had been nervously anticipating this moment ever since her mom and dad told her what she was. Watching her footing as she followed the other new students into the Hall, she listened to the Sorting Hat's song with curiosity. One of the names it cooed made her perk up.

"Gryffindor..." Her mind traveled back in time to one of many conversations her parents had with her while she was still in Cambridge. "That's the house they were in. The one they want me to be sorted into. I can't say it would be all that bad, I guess...but would I really fit in?" The horrid thought of being placed in a setting of incompatibility began to haunt her, but she shook her head, and her dirty brown bangs brushed down in front of her eyes.

"Cool it, Maddy. If the adults are really trusting this hat to place us, it has to know what its doing, right?" She reasoned as the Sorting Hat finished its song. "I'll end up where I'm supposed to be. I just gotta trust that sketchy old hat."

Too busy battling with anxiety, Madelyn failed to hear her name being called, and she suddenly felt an army of eyeballs staring her down from all angles. "Madelyn North! Please step forward!" Head propping upwards, Madelyn combed the hair out of her eyes and looked around in a state of embarrassment before getting with the program and taking a seat on the Sorting Hat's stool.

"Well, now...this is curious. You've got a well-rounded mind, North, I must admit," the hat said as it hugged the top of her head. "You're smart, and ready to apply yourself. Ambitious...and a little crude, but I can't in good conscious say you're Slytherin material. I see a strong sense of loyalty. Plenty of patience, too. You'd do quite well in Hufflepuff, of that there's no doubt...but there's something more. Something far stronger here, North."

Madelyn looked up at the hat, brows raised. The thought of joining Hufflepuff was an agreeable one, even if it was against her parents' wishes for her. Unable to keep herself from flinching as the hat twisted in place, seemingly digging for some underlying gem in her persona, she held her breath and gently reminded herself to trust in the process.

"That's it. That is it...," the hat continued, still looking down at her. "Its true, Hufflepuff would be a good home for you, but you have something far more prevalent. You have courage, North. A strong moral compass, and above all else, you have determination burning brighter than anything. That settles it. You're far better suited for a future with...GRYFFINDOR!"

Madelyn's heart jumped as she hopped off of the stool and began making her way towards the Gryffindor table. Thunderous applause erupted from the crimson-clad students already seated there, and her smiled returned. This time brighter than ever. It was an expected result, but welcome, nonetheless.

Moray was excited to finally be at Hogwarts, she had been told many stories of the school from her family that she felt as if she was finally coming home. It took her a few seconds to realise that these were the exact halls her parents walked down at her age, that almost all of her family had been at the school, in fact, there were one or two currently studying.

She waited patiently for her name to be called, being an M meant she was in the middle of the group. “Moray Morrigan” her name was called she moved between the students up onto the dais and sat down.

“Another Morrigan.” The hat spoke to her, she smirked slightly at the comment, her eyes drifting towards the figure of her youngest uncle sitting proudly at the Hufflepuff table. “I see that you're less fanciful than the last Morrigan I sorted...hmmm. Well, I could lie and say this is a hard choice, but just like your parents, you're going to have to be...SLYTHERIN.” The last word was echoed out across the hall, she let out a small sigh of relief, she had wanted to be in Slytherin like her father.

She looked out towards her uncle, she couldn't help but notice the crestfallen look on his face, she gave a wave and smile before sitting down at her table. As the night went on and other's joined the table, the feeling of excitement dissipated and was quickly replaced with an underwhelming sadness.

'Was this it?'

Lavinia felt so excited and over joyed to finally be at Hogwarts since just months ago she thought herself to be a squib. Her family had told her so many stories about the place and when she saw it for the first time it was much more then she ever thought it to be. The castle was so huge and so beautiful she couldn’t keep her eyes off it. But there was also a lot of nervousness around her and she started getting very nervous herself. Her parents had told her about the four houses, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Gryffindor but she never imagined how much people were talking about them it was like this effected their whole life.

Finally they walked into the great hall and Lavinia’s heart was pounding of nerves, she assumed that she would be in Hufflepuff like her mom or Slytherin like her dad but the thought of being in Ravenclaw with everyone being so smart or Gryffindor with everyone being so brave she did not want to think about. Soon enough the old hat broke out in song and everyone went silent.

Once the hat finished singing names started being called to sit on the stool and put the hat on their head. Her parents must have forgotten to mention that a hat chooses your house by seeing into your head she thought. Then soon enough the professor called “Cloven, Lavinia” and nervous Lavinia walked forward. She sat on the stool and placed the hat on top of her head like she had seen the other kids do.

Once the hat was on her head it started talking “I sense kindness and ambition also I sense knowledge and bravery but where to put you.” Lavinia just sat there for what felt like an eternity and waited for the hat to decide, soon enough people started groaning and whispering about her being a hatstall. After 7 minutes and 15 seconds according to her watch the hat finally made it’s mind and said “RAVENCLAW” and Lavinia just happy that it was over walked to the Ravenclaw table and took a seat to watch the rest of the sorting.

When Eloise's name was called, the beating of her heart excelled. It seemed that every step she took, the faster her heart beat. Balling her hands into fists and unclenching them, she takes her seat on the stool, the Sorting Hat being held above her head. It hadn't yet been placed upon her head, but it was almost as if she could already feel the worn fabric atop her head.

Countless eyes were on her, waiting in anticipation to hear what her house would become. Those sitting at the table, already sorted into their house, spoke in whispers. The excitement in the air was palpable. It somewhat helped to calm Eloise down, so she was thankful for that much. Suddenly, she felt the hat on her head. As soon as it touched her hair, the whispers were immediately cut off, as if everyone in the room had suddenly lost the ability to speak.

The hat sat on her head. Eloise could hear it muttering, barely above a mumble. Being the only one of her siblings to have received a Hogwarts letter, she had no clue what she was doing. She'd heard some things of Slytherin house, but she'd ignored them. Suddenly, the hat shouted:

Gryffindor!!

Eloise nearly jumped, but waited for the hat to be removed from her head as loud cheers erupted around her. Centered in a particular part of the room, though, were extremely loud yelps and whoops were coming from what she assumed was the Gryffindor table. Leaping off the stool, she made her way to the table of students adorning Gryffindor robes, a smile on her face

The onyx-haired boy stood attentively through the sorting in the Great Hall. His dark sapphire eyes shimmered repeatedly through the tension of the event. The scent of sweat and distinct, exotic perfumes emanated through the transparent air. Everyone was on edge, not one averted their eyes on one of the few important moments of their lives; Leo was no more than a result of the phenomenon that was the Sorting Hat.

He could remember, years ago when he was dreaming endlessly of the possibility of going to Hogwarts, and praying that he would get sorted into a great house, but never Slytherin. Leo, still to this day, hated the Slytherin house. It wasn't because it had a notoriously amount of Death-eaters and Evil magicians, rather, most of the people in the noble Quincy family were Slytherins, and the boy HATED those "over-privileged parasites," he would call them. Leo hadn't held any malice to the other houses, but he preferred Ravenclaw the most, finding their doctrine the most suited to him, and he adored the color blue.

Nonetheless, he wasn't scared, in fact, he was excited from the tension, craving more of it. His journey to the art of Magic would begin only moments left, the first chapter of Leopold Quincy. A girl who just finished her sorting, sat at the Hufflepuff table, chatting happily with her kind. The professor would clear their throat, "LEOPOLD TOSHIRO QUINCY!" The boy slowly walked to the seat, as everyone's eyes zoomed in on him as if he was becoming exposed by the second. The nervousness was beginning to set in, overweighing the excitement. Leo's legs felt like jelly, as well as his striding hands that were threatening to give up.

He couldn't.

Using the last bits of strength from his body, he sat on the chair, nearly exasperated. The professor put the sorting hat on Leo's dark mop hair. The hat began its analysis, "Ah, a calculative boy it seems." It paused for a second, "You wouldn't be part of the noble Quincy family aren't ya?" No response. " The silent treatment eh? You folk always seem to resemble each other some way or another, and I see some similarities with you." Leo's eyebrows twitched in annoyance. "You would do almost anything to achieve your goals and very clever indeed. Almost like a Slytherin." Leo sighed, he wasn't that different from his predecessors after all...

"Yet, your goals are not selfish at all, and the reason behind it, you want it to breed kindness, progressiveness, and fairness. You don't care what state you'll be in. Maybe you're not a Slytherin after all." Leo's eyes widened, his true personality will be revealed through the Sorting Hat.

"You want friends, people that you can trust; you want to be loved. You want to love with all of your heart." Leo's face turned ripe as a red-pepper, as if he ate something spicy, then bathed in hot water, "T-That's enough of that! I don't need a b-bloody hat telling me who I am!" The dark sapphire-eyed boy stammered, embarrassed. The hat made a crooked smirk, "You deeply admire intelligence, and you are very creative. I wouldn't be surprised if you made a few spells yourself, yeah?"  "In conclusion, I see you as a cunning, compassionate, smart, modest boy, whose braveness, compassion, and intelligence rivals those of mature magicians. You may have some undesirable qualities, but like most children, you shall mature.  I find you interesting, Leopold Quincy." The hat delayed for a few seconds, in deep thought.

"It would be a sin to not place you in RAVENCLAW!!!" The hat boomed through the Great Hall. Leo smirked, as he leaped off the chair, walking to the Ravenclaw table, as the welcomed him with open arms.

He needed to change the Magical world so that his friends' deaths wouldn't be for vain,  his family's life wouldn't be spat on, to expose and eradicate the Quincy family for the plague they are on society. Hogwarts awakened Zero...
