The sun had begun to set & was beautiful on the horizon. There was a chill in the evening air that had a bite to it. Over the whistling of the wind he could hear it. Groaning & creaking as it swayed slightly on the spot. Out of reach from the tree stood Geoffrey. His robes rustling in the wind as he read over the book clasped tightly in one hand while the other scanned the pages & stopped them from whipping about in the wind. This tree had stood here for centuries. The things it'd seen take place upon these fields. He turned to gaze over the grounds & the castle all before him. 'To think that so many important Events have been witnessed by it. I wonder how many more it'll see.' he thought to himself before finishing up the chapter on the Whomping Willow. Closing the book & stuffing it into a bag he would pick up a stick.

It was long enough so he could test the safe perimeter around the massive tree. He would take a couple steps in each time, waiting to see if the tree reacted before continuing. He'd quickly step back out of it's range & mark the location. Geoffrey repeated the process until he'd established a rough idea of the plants striking range. Once he had the youth would take a seat & start sorting through his bag. Retrieving from it 'The Dark Forces: A Guide to Self-Protection by Quentin Trimble' from within it, opening it & taking a seat just outside the boundary he would begin to read his book. Just because he hadn't learnt the spells yet didn't mean he couldn't begin to learn the theory behind it.

It was an interesting read initially, finding himself already drawn deep into the book. He would read for as long as there was light enough to do so or until something more interesting happened. Though he doubted many others would find themselves drawn to this part of the grounds. Though with some contemplation he could see it as a regular spot for one to clear their mind. Nonetheless he'd done what he wanted when he'd learnt about the tree & now he was enjoying the evening air. His hair whipping over his as he read the book, although this seemed to do little to deter him.

Lamik had decided to take a stroll outside, eager to explore more of the Hogwarts grounds that he had not yet seen. The castle was immense so much so that he could probably have explored it for months upon moths and never have seen everything. The only issue was that in the castle he was more likely to be caught if he wandered somewhere that first years were not supposed to wander into. Outside he felt free, the excitement and wonder of exploration outweighing the obvious risk of walking through unfamiliar, possibly dangerous, land.

In the distance he spotted a tree. Not one of the normal, boring trees that you see every day, but one of immense size. A dark bark with sharp, needle like branches swaying lightly in the wind.

As the boy got closer he realized that the swaying didn't look like it was caused by the wind. Somehow, the tree seemed alive. Almost sentient. With an uneasy feeling in his stomach Lamik marched on, determined to figure the strange plant out.

Seeing someone else nearby, Lamik felt a mixture of relief and fear. For all he knew, this was a prefect or a professor- someone who could get him in trouble! On the other hand, if it wasn't, he might finally have found somebody that he could befriend who liked wandering and exploring.

"Excuse me?"

The sun started to set, but really it wasn’t that special. The weather wasn’t that bad either- anyone who thought it was chilly was clearly exaggerating and making a big deal out of nothing. Ike was near a tree too, but the tree was happy, unlike the one that Geoffrey decided to stand near. Ike’s robes didn’t rustle in the wind cause it honestly wasn’t that windy. Geoffrey just liked to exaggerate. Ike blinked and watched Geoffrey look cinematic.

The Final Countdown played as Geoffrey appeared epic in this particular scene. Geoffrey cinematically picked up a stick.

Ike picked up a stick too. Cinematically, Geoffrey tested the limits of the tree, and Ike just watched. Then Geoffrey cinematically began to read a book. The fight music from the Phantom Menace began to play.

Ike just blinked, then walked over to the tree and touched the tree’s knot, scratching his head with his free hand.

“This tree is interesting.” He said, talking to cinematic Geoffrey from Oblivion (Inside joke). Ike also noticed Lamik, and waved, smiling, his other hand still on the tree's knot.

Once again Jade was about the grounds, it seemed to be her favorite place seeing as she visited it so much. On this fine day she was exploring a side she normally didn't go to. The reason for this was "The Whomping Willow" A tree that had always scared Jade. As she walked towards it she noticed some boys near it. One of them seemed to be studying the tree so Jade decided to go over to them.

When she reached them she found that two of them had just arrived, or she imagined they had as they greeting each other. Jade decided it was best not to intervene at this point and look at the tree on her own. She walked a bit closer to see lines drawn on the ground. Had one of these boys scouted out how close you could get tp the tree?

Jade picked up a stick and put it just at the line. nothing happened, she put it over the line and immediately jumped back as the stick was demolished by the tree. Jade now stood about a meter from the line looking at the tree in shock, it was every bit as aggressive as the books said.

[quote]The second year saw from afar how a few other boys were dangerously close to the willow that was known to be the whomping willow. Alone the name of that sentient tree should suggest to stay away from it as far as possible and not press your luck of going near it.

Yet there they were, three kids gathered there and Alan wondered why they would be going this close to the tree anyway. Testing their luck? Curiosity or maybe a bet? Well that one guy definitely looked as if he was stressing his luck by the way he walked towards the tree with blind confidence. Had he never heard of the willow? Alan's eyes widened as the willow began to sway dangerously.

Luckily for the boy the tree seemed to sway into a different direction, one were a girl had thrown a stick into the tree's range as the willow began to crash towards the invader.
Alan chose that moment to call out for the boy dangerous close to the willow itself.

”Get back here! Don't go to the tree!”, he warned the boy as he got closer. Alan really hoped he would listen and wondered if he maybe should just go and get a professor real quick or maybe ask one of the surrounding people to do so?

He did not really pay attention to the other guys or the girl as he just kept a safe distance from the tree. ”Come on get back here!”

Abit distressed after a meeting with a Ravenclaw boy, Nico decided to explore the Grounds. Usually she stayed at the Great Lake but today it was crowded with students. She sighed and held the strap of her bag tightly. She heard about a tree called the Whomping Willow. A tree known for it's agressive way towards anyone who came near it. Dangerous.

The sunset at one side, Nico made her way to the open field where the Willow grew. She wiped away the last few tears that rolled down her cheeks and looked up. Stopping in her tracks she noticed by her surprise, there were some other students. A Slytherin and two Gryffindor boys. The boy dressed in green sat at a certain distance from the tree. The tree didn't seem to engage. Was he... right out of its reach? The boy did looked familiar to her... One of the Gryffindor boys, seemed to have no idea what he got himself into. He tried to start a conversation with the Slytherin. The other Gryffindor on the other hand, started something that only a fool would think was sane. He just... hung out at the trees knot. What in the actual world... was he thinking? What were all these kids thinking? As soon as she counted them, a girl arrived. A Huffelpuff girl. She approached the tree and jumped away just in time, when she tried to poke in the grass close to it. Nico let out a panicky squeek. Afraid for a second that the student got smashed by the massive plant.
Suddenly, a voice called out to them. Another Gryffindor boy. It was Alan! He tried his best to persuade the insane boy at the tree, to return to safety.

Nico crossed her arms, abit scared about the situation. She was a Prefect, but wasn't sure how to engage. But she HAD to do SOMETHING. She took a deep breath and stepped up to the group. Not too close, not too far. 'H-Hey! W-What do you think you're doing!' She held her arm over her chest, as if she tried to protect her heart from being hurt. 'C-Care to explain what..What this means?'

Huh? Did she go too far? Luna stopped reading the book from her hands and took a look around. This was not the place where the tree that she usually climbed to read books... The grounds, noisy but had beautiful views. Luna would not go to this place if it was not because of the fresh air. The tree that she chose was high enough to let her being able to climb on, and high enough to make the other students could not see her. She just borrowed a book from the library, and as she expected, it was a good one, and good enough to distracted her from focusing.

So... this place was where the Whomping Willow at? Luna was not really sure, she had never visited this place, because she was not interested in getting hurt by that tree. Luna was not really sure if it was a good idea to go there. Time to went back... However, before she could turned back, the girl realized that there were a lot of students were there, a lot more than she expected. Gryffindors were here, that did nor surprised her. However... Slytherins? And well, she knew both of the snakes who were there. Geoffrey, and Nico.

Nico was doing her job better than Luna expected, which made the purple hair girl felt a bit happy. Silently stood behind Nico, Luna did not say anything. The red hair girl would not know that she was stooding there unless she turned around, and she was not going to let the young sneak knew either. She just silently stood there, looking at the students with no expression on her face, waiting for what would happen next.

Just because I said you were bad does not mean that I am mean. It shows that I am honest.

Geoffrey looked up from his book when he heard someone approaching. Looking up from his book the youth would close it seeing other students nearby. It seemed he had a penchant for drawing out the curious even when he wasn't trying. Placing the book inside his bag he smiled at the student. "Hello, is something wro..." he went to ask the boy when he heard someone else comment about the tree. His gaze snapped to the student he was standing near the base of the tree. As he approached it another student broke the perimeter causing the tree to strike her. Which was fortunate for the youth. However after it struck at her he noticed it freeze, branches & all stopped moving.

That sapphire gaze slid to where the youths hand was & he made a mental note to test if there was any correlation. Even when he heard what must've been a Prefect shouting out to the boy he didn't turn his gaze to meet them. Certain that if he did he'd miss the crucial evidence he needed that would stop him from needlessly putting himself in jeopardy. The cry for the student to step back from the tree was quickly followed by another. It seemed that the actions of the youth had caught the attention of at least one Prefect. A smirk would form upon the boys face as he stood brushing the dirt & grass from his robes.

"Have none of you notice it's no longer moving? I'd say it has something to do with what he's doing to the tree." He had enough observational prowess & could easily conclude that this was not a coincidence. He spoke with confidence & certainty in his voice. To test his theory he stepped into the tree's range of striking & making sure to keep his gaze on the boy at the tree. Should he remove his hand the young Slytherin would quickly leap back with surprising Agility from someone from his year. "There you have it." he would say with a warm smile on his face certain that at least for as long as the youth had his hand upon the tree it would not strike him.

Once he was out of it's striking range again his gaze would swiftly take in all those present. Briefly locking eyes with the couple students he'd recognized from his party. One he even remembered from the party & an encounter at the Library. The memory of that encounter brought a small smile to his lips as his gaze departed from her. He'd the Prefects a nod of acknowledgement as he stood there eager to see what would develop from this situation. Whether there would be a Hospital visit for a student or detention for them who knew. That was half of the excitement seeing how the students reacted to these situations. Both those with authority & those without.

Staring in awe at the sight in front of him, Lamik took a few steps back, fear growing inside him. The thought of being caught was gone by now, replaced by the urgent need to take control of the situation.

Step one would be to figure out what the heck that tree was. Obviously it was magic- and probably sentient. It seemed to not like... Anyone, and while a living tree seemed dangerous enough, a violent one was a hundred times worse.

"What is that thing?"

Asking the question to himself more then to anyone around him, the boy looks around. The boy by the tree- the one who seemed to be stupidly calm given the situation he was in. A hufflepuff girl was standing nearby, watching the scene play out.

Deciding that getting farther away was his best bet to getting out of this mess unscathed, Lamik hurried over to where she was standing, hoping that she might know more about the tree then he did.

"Do you know what's going on?"

The boys voice was slightly shaky, his eyes following the branches sway in obvious fear.

"Do you think that thing is dangerous? Why would they leave it in the school?"

The young Gryffindor mustered the group and stared at them, happy to notice one familiar face and not only that, the face of a prefect. With a second look at another girl he soon found out that there was not only one but two prefects in their small groups, which internally calmed the second year down as he took in whatever happened, trying to make an image for himself. The Willow stopped in its movement just as the other boy reached the bark that emerged from the ground. The tree had been there for as long as he remembered, his parents had known it and told Alan what he needed to know about it to stay safe; stay away from it.

The light brunet boy faced the other boy who had an eye patch draped over his right eye, the one who questioned the trees action of suddenly stopping to move. ”You cannot know when it will start moving again though, and isn't it unimportant whether it will stop moving somehow? As long as you stay away from it entirely it will not try to hurt you, or can't.”, he noted as his gaze swayed over to stare at the boy that was still standing close to the tree, leaving Alan hoping that he would just come back. Well or away from the tree, where he was out of reach from the thick branches that looked like they would hurt a lot upon contact. He did not really want to know how painful and he was sure that the guy standing this close to the tree would regret finding out as well, should the tree unfreeze before he left its direct range.

Hearing the concerned voice of another boy, a blond kid standing close to a girl, both students he had not seen before, made him give a small emphatic smile. ”Are you a Muggle-born? Because else you probably would have heard about this Willow... It is like asking Muggles to destroy a building or memory from their History... As far as I know it is protected and advised to stay away from it- so not exactly doing what this other boy did...”, he explained shyly and relaxed as he watched the the situation calm down. He really hoped none of them would get this idea of testing the Willow again, as it easily could end badly. It did not seem like the tree would move anytime soon, seemingly frozen in place, making even Alan curious.

He was still keeping his distance, even to the sketchy lines pressed into the ground, probably by one of the many sticks that spread over the ground. Closest to those lines were probably the boy and another girl, the one he saw teasing the Whomping Willow, making him wonder how careless someone would have to be, to test the trees limits like that. He turned to the only familiar face once again and gave a small wave to her, ”Hey Nico, you are a prefect now?”, he asked curiously. He remembered the girl from when he had met her in the Hospital Wing after she swallowed some pennies because she was curious what would happen if she did so, or at least that is what he remembered and thought was the reason. Why else would someone swallow multiply pennies, that was have been a weird accident, if she did not do that on purpose. Well after that he would see her on the corridors sometimes, often greeting her, but he could not remember really meeting her afterwards and all of the other kids were strangers to him, not that this meant that it could not change.
