[quote]Alan huffed lightly, a soft Sound that would have visualized in a Cloud of fog if they were still outside in the snow. Yet in the inside of the Manor, the place his mother grew up in, it was only a barely audible Sound as his eyes narrowed slightly. "Exactly, also just make sure you are not alone with the headmaster, like ever!", he hinted. Images of the Lock In flashed through his mind, Nothing too bad had happened, but bad enough for many parents to send concerned owls. Yet their was no proof of the Events that had happened, accusations were made but in the end it was one word against the other.

"You are nice too, you know? Kind of very nice and that is why we are friends in the first place!", he pointed out, lightly shrugging. This was at least what he believed in. Not everyone was perfect, the world was not perfect, but it was up to a positive mind to make the world a slightly more beautiful place.


Her being proud at him made him laugh. "My, my. You think way too highly of me, I do just enough work in the subjects so that my mom does not disown me or anything!", he joked as he wheezed out a few chuckles. It amused him that Elena thought he would voluntarily study for History of Magic if he could read about Creatures instead.

"But I am proud at your grades!", he made sure to say with a happy nod.

Alan warning Elena against anyone was rare because of his highly optimistic nature, making her worry more than her paranoid brain already did about the staff of Hogwarts. Being worried about the fact they didn't seem to care about orphans being orphans and not having homes and all that was a very different feeling from worrying about them having done something to Alan though.

Elena frowned, "Got it, if I ever need to talk to him I'll bring some back-up."

"I still find it strange when people tell me that, I wasn't exactly renowned for being the nicest kid before Hogwarts. Now everyone seems to think I'm nice." Elena said the last bit in a joking tone, although it was true. She had been the trickster, the little girl that was never to be trusted because the second you turn your back your wallet would be gone along with your faith in humanity, "I'm glad I'm you're friend."

"Well, you're doing an excellent job either way! So, I'm proud." Elena drank some more hot chocolate and smiled at Alan with a chocolate foam moustache, "Thank you! I'm really happy it's going so well."

Elena peered up at him, not taking off her foam moustache because she figured it was hilarious.

Alan shrugged her next words off, he did not know why People could even think badly About Elena. She was such a nice Person, if she was not Talking About threatening others, which he Kind of hoped she would not do. He nodded when she began Talking and gulped down his now slightly cooled off hot chocolate. "I am Kind of curious About how the rest of the year is gonna go, I hope it will be fun and I also hope nothing bad will happen that might be I dunno, just a disaster…", he smiled lightly as he wiped off the foam of milk and cream that formed a moustache above his upper lip, making him probably look a bit funny.

The foam moustache joke had been a flop, so Elena just wiped it away and took another sip of hot chocolate, "Better to avoid disasters, yes. I'm sure it'll go amazing though! I mean, I made the best friend ever this year. How could it go badly from here?"

Thinking about the future had become something the girl liked, having a future to start with made it a lot easier but there were dreams hidden inside that now stayed in the light. A house, or an apartment, by the sea in Santorini. White linen bedsheets and wide windows with books piled everywhere. Wooden floorboards so that when Elena was carving the wood shavings could be swept up easily, shelves packed with things she's made and comfort everywhere around.

"Alan." Elena said softly, mind still far away in her daydream, "What do you want to do, when you're grown up, and what kind of place would you want to live."

That kind of question was usually pretty superficial, but not in this case. Elena asked not because it was polite, or it was a simple question to use, but because she wanted to know. In her mind there was no better way to get to know someone's heart by finding out what they love.

The second year grinned at her words and was happy that she found a best friend, hoping that maybe he could meet them at one point so he could thank them for making Elena happy. She was an important friend and Alan would protect her and hoped whatever she did would go right and would end with her not getting not hurt. Her getting hurt scared the second year... she looked so frail, even more so than he does and that even though she was about his height now.

”I want to live surrounded by creatures who live under my protection... I have the money to start it when I am adult, yet I don't want to touch the subject until I have the required knowledge and gathered enough information. Starting small and then climbing my way to the top-”, he started to explain calmly, as he stirred his hot chocolate absentmindedly. He had not put too much thoughts into his future, just that he wanted to protect and study creatures. Maybe even fight the bad guys that would smuggle them, helping some Aurors, but all this was in the future.

”I want to protect them, you know... they are just too precious”

Elena looked at Alan as he talked about protecting creatures, it was sweet, a lot more proactive than Elena's idea of what to do in the future. Peace and quiet against protecting others, interesting, but not exactly unsuspected, Alan had seemed to care more about taking care of things than anyone else. Be it stray animals, or stray people, "Sounds nice, happy. I like it."

"I get it." Elena smiled, she mostly understood why Alan would do something like that more than actually understood the idea of it, "You're a good person Alan, I'm not sure if there's someone that does quite as much to help people as you do."

You brought me here. Elena thought to herself as she munched on one of the mini marshmallows floating in her drink.

After a minute Elena realised it was getting harder to find the marshmallows, further inspection let her know she was almost out of hot chocolate, having accidentally drunk most of it while not paying attention, she held the mug up with a lopsided smile, "Looks like you're the best hot chocolate maker as well as being the best friend ever. How is it you're so good at it? Tell me your secrets."

In his opinion his idea was great and good even though based on childish intentions, which he realized but ignored for the sake of doing something good. This was how he worked, if he believed in something strongly enough there was a way to make it possible.

"There are many people you know? You just have to keep your eyes open, as the news usually like to only view the baddies since they are more important to tell about and what the people want to hear about! They get more reads when they showcase gossip and what the baddies do as it gives the people something to talk about", he said with a light grin, before he downed his hot chocolate.

his grin widened and his mood lightened up more than before. "Years of practice and an addiction to chocolate! Did you know it will give a very nice cocoa when you melt the chocolate used for chocolate frogs in milk and add a little bit of syrup?", Alan would smile lightly, her words bringing a smile to his lips like usually.

Elena nodded, "Makes sense. I'm pretty sure that none of your friends would be mean to creatures. I mean, I don't know what kind of terrible person would be mean to creatures."

Elena didn't think of his idea as childish, part of a mind that had gone from believing that her life would end badly to believing in magic. Anything is possible if you believe in magic. Why wouldn't it be? If you can turn a mouse into a clock then you can do whatever you set your mind to.

"I guess you're right. I should look at the brighter side more often." Elena smiled over the mug, but in the back of her mind something about Alan's smile made her worried. For just a moment she was trapped far away and long ago. Then Elena's mind jerked her back to the present, almost as if trying to cover up something better left forgotten. She blinked a few times then smiled up at Alan.

"I had no idea. That's awesome, do you do lots of cooking?" Elena put her mug down and leaned forward on the counter, resting head on her hands, "I realise I never asked what you do for fun, other than read about creatures that is."

So yeah, no one who is mean to them is allowed to see them!", he exclaimed with a nod, to accentuate his statement. He was lad they were on the same page about this matter ad hoped he would never have to del with someone who is mean to animals.

"I hope so, because you notice so much more beauty in life", he grinned at that. It was true and it was a beautiful thought... , "The world can only be as beautifuly as you let it be."

"Cooking not really and I am not that good, but I like baking... it is fun and afterwards you are full of flour!", he explained. Well usually one would not be full of flour, but Alan usually ended up covered from head to toe in flour and sugar and the kitchen was left behind as a mess. Alone the thought of that made him giggle slightly, he was amused by the image dancing in his head, making him space out for a moment.

Elena nodded in agreement, although in that way people do when they agreed with what they had themselves said just before, "Good plan."

"That's a good theory Alan." Elena smiled softly, "Just make sure you don't ignore the bad completely, because that's how bad people sneak up on you."

Elena hoped the sentiment sunk in, but also to a point assumed Alan's optimistic nature meant he wasn't exactly going to be the best at that. Although warning her against Lear may be a good sign in that respect. How can something be both remarkably worrying and relieving at the same time? Well, apparently when your headmaster has so thoroughly convinced Alan he's not a good person that the kid was afraid of him.

"That's so cool Alan! I don't even know how to make biscuits." Elena laughed a little and leaned back a little in her chair, "So, what else do you do? When you're not being the top of your classes and making the best hot chocolates, that is."

Alan seemed to be lost in his own happy memories for a second, making the Slytherin girl smile again, for a small moment. Then back to the content looking neutral expression she was used to.
