the third of february, midday
Within the library, a book in the hands of Lea Hirsch flipped closed as the girl stretched her arms behind her back, a small melody hummed as she slowly packed up her belongings.
The Great Hall was its usual self at lunchtime which was to say crowded, loud, and constantly in motion. Students laughed, cheered, chatted, entering the room, grabbing food, and leaving full or in search of someplace quieter. It had certainly taken some getting used to during her first year but now a fourth year, Lea was almost able to tune it out as she waded through the waves of people to find an open spot at one of the tables. She'd opt for fish and chips with an apple as a side, starting in on the fries first as she listened in one some of the conversations nearby. Some were particularly interesting, including the one right next to her with a group educating their fellow student on some muggle recess games like quack diddly oso or thumb wars. Explanations brought plenty of laughter, struggling to find proper instructions without also getting sidetracked in the memories.
There was enough of a pause where Lea could offer her explanation before adding her own game to the pile- arm wrestling. It had been a favorite of hers, a test of strength against her friends who had also been thankfully rather weak to make for good competitions. But actually explaining? Despite rather simple instructions, the Hufflepuff struggled to explain why it could be entertaining and that it didn't require being angry at another person like most muggle fights seemed to entail. So instead she wouldn't explain.
Rather, Lea stood up from the table, taking a final bite of fish before pushing the dish off to the side to make room in front of her. Brown eyes glanced between the students seated nearby, trying to figure out who would agree to this as Lea announced, "I swear it's fun! Who wants to arm wrestle me?" Anyone who kept their gaze on her too long would receive a beckoning motion as she awaited her competition, a smile slowly creeping across her face at the thought of this strange impromptu 'fight'.

❂《 ⌜ February 3, 2024 ▎ Midday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Fun, it was harder to come by even now. Everything feels stale for Raizel. The things that she enjoyed, the sport that she loved, nothing felt fun. She rarely looks for anything that gives her joy nowadays though, accepting the fact that it was probably time to take it easy for a bit and slow down, enjoy peace for once and recover.
That is, until something caught her attention. A muggle game, arm wrestling, she heard while passing by the Hufflepuff table on her way out. If there is anything that immediately catches this Gryffindor's attention, it's the presence of a challenge and this sounds like one. Arm wrestling, something that she hasn't done before and while she didn't want to intrude as it might just be a challenge for the Puffs, she can't help but listen in to how it works. Doesn't seem complicated, just a test of strength which she clearly doesn't have but guess that's what makes it challenging.
“I'll take you on.” She answered as soon as a familiar person asked if anyone wanted to take her on. Lea Hirsch, 4th year, and without a doubt, strong and if anyone knew Raizel that well, she's the type of person who likes sparring with older students. Sure, she gets beat a lot but that was expected. Did that stop her? No, not really. No matter what the challenge is, as long as it's exciting for her, one can be sure that she'll take it. Raizel placed the apple that she was holding on the table, brown eyes on Lea. She'll see if this one is enough to make her feel fun.

Alyssea was eating lunch. Nothing new. It was a Saturday and it was midday. She wasn't in the mood to chat much after recovering from the disaster that was the month of January. Why did January feel so short and so long at the same time? And why did so much happen in one month alone?february 3rd 2023; interacting with @Lea Hirsch and @Raizel Voltrouz
As soon as the clock hit 2024, Alyssea found out one of her best friends was also her cousin. Then, she got wrapped up in a disastrous cookie-decorating Christmas event. She helped a friend train for Quidditch. Her extracurriculars were also rather busy, going around asking the new duelling captains if she could interview them then figuring out how she was going to deal with the winter races. Busy, only busy.
She hoped February would be more kind.
Alyssea listened to the chatter around her while eating lunch. She caught wind of a few Muggle games, some she hadn't heard of in forever. Her life before magic was so far away now. Where did the time go?
She remained curious but kept to herself. Food first before some games if she could spare the time. It wasn't until a familiar voice took up someone's challenge that Alyssea looked up. Of course it was Raizel, but at the same time, she was intrigued.
Alyssea got up from her seat but stayed where she was. Luckily, she could see this go down from where she was sitting and she had a clear view of who it was, too. Raizel versus Lea. She took a sip from her cup. Naturally, she would root for Raizel as her cousin, but Lea was also her duelling captain, so it would be natural 'puff loyalty to back up a housemate. The internal conflict was real.

Her challenge had sparked some curiosity, a small hush as the people nearby waited expectantly for someone to stand up and take on the competition. Others seemed incredulous, mainly Hufflepuffs near Lea's age, uncertain if they had ever seen her pick anything up outside of a few books. Duelling didn't really need arm strength and other times the girl seemed lost in books or homework- so was she actually strong? Despite the good questions, the Hufflepuff seemed confident in her success from the way she glanced around, finding Raizel and Alyssea nearby as the perhaps unfortunate victims of eye contact. No way they were getting out of this now, Lea was determined for them both to arm wrestle at least once.
Thankfully she wouldn't have to pester either of them yet as Raizel stepped up to the plate, the smile on Lea's face widening. "Yes! Welcome welcome- our first competition, Lea versus Raizel! Here here, take that seat," she offered, motioning at the spot across the table that people had scooted away from to provide some room. As Raizel situated herself, Lea would lean back a bit to find the gaze of Alyssea once more, calling out, "I hope this isn't the first and last match, if you would care to take on the winner!" It seemed less of a question and more of a statement as she wouldn't wait for an answer before returning her attention back to Raizel as the teen plopped back down into her seat. "I'm guessing you have heard how this works then?" If not, Lea would start her little spiel before giving up about half way through as she declared, "Eh, you'll figure out how it works. It's not complicated, just win." Otherwise, Lea would chirp a gleeful "perfect!" before extending one arm out and bracing her elbow against the table with her hand extended towards Raizel. The other arm hung limply at her side, unsure quite what to do with it.
As soon as their hands clasped and grip tightened, Lea called out, "set anddd go!"

❂《 ⌜ February 3, 2024 ▎ Midday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Looks like there were no objections there when she accepted the challenge from the older Hufflepuff. She was expecting Lea to decline, perhaps thinking that this won't be that much of a challenge for her. Raizel is a Second Year and Lea is already a Fourth Year. There's a huge… okay, maybe not huge but still, there was a gap. Surely enough, there's a huge difference in skills.
Or that's what Raizel thought at least.
As one of her seniors in duelling, Raizel does look up to Lea, perhaps close to how she looked up to Dee and Bea. She knows Lea's skills in duelling, she fought her once too and she barely scratched her. She got lucky with that Ventus but if it wasn't for that, Lea could've walked away unscathe. The young Gryffindor's image of Lea was this strong duellist and surely enough, the same could be said with her strength.
As they say, we all have our specialty and after this, Raizel would immediately learn that perhaps… a test of strength isn't one of Lea's. Raizel took her place, recalling the rules of this… arm wrestling thing. She held on to Lea's hand with her elbow on the table. The Gryffindor looked at the Hufflepuff, a grin appearing on her face. This is starting to feel fun, thrilling, challenging. All she has to do was pin Lea's hand.
Once the older student said go, the young Gryffindor tried pushing Lea's hand, feeling the struggle between them. What she wasn't expecting was… after that struggle, Lea's hand just went down fast. Raizel blinked, eyes on her hand still pinning down Lea's. It went by rather quickly that her brain somehow failed to comprehend what just happened. Maybe she expected too much and this whole thing left her staring for quite some time.
“Uhmm… well… that was unexpected… hmmm.” Raizel uttered before clearing her throat. Did the Hufflepuff go easy on her? Maybe but Lea doesn't seem like the type who would do such a thing.

It was very rare that anything physical happened at Hogwarts. So many of the students, except for those who had taken to the skies in broom racing or quidditch, were nerds who liked throwing spells and doing other such boring stuff. So the sight of seeing people engaged in a true and honest arm wrestling competition caught Nicholas’s eye. He entered the Great Hall, hoping to grab something to snack on before he took off to God knew what, maybe stare at some bugs or something, and was greeted by something that certainly caught his interest.
The students involved were not ones overly familiar to the fourth year, almost all younger than him, female, and duellists. Certainly the type of people that it would be entirely in poor form to challenge to any kind of arm wrestling competition. Decorum would dictate that he spectate, perhaps that he ignore it entirely and keep on his way.
He really didn’t feel like engaging in proper decorum, not at the moment.
“Oi, oi, oi, what’s all this then?” Nicholas asked, hands behind his buzzed head, a crooked smirk splitting his face in twain, “Finally giving up the duelling to have a go at something proper difficult, are we?”
His own experience with duelling had been a single, embarrassing loss, but he didn’t feel the need to reiterate that point.

The anticipation of who was gonna win this arm wrestle beat all thesensible ideas out of Alyssea's head. She climbed over the bench and jogged over closer to Lea and Raizel. There was a bit of a struggle, something Alyssea expected. Then again, she had no clue who would actually win. Lea was an upperclassman and Raizel wasn't able to break out of Axyen's body bind in the fall duels. Then slowly, Lea's hand met the table and that was that. It didn't take long.february 3rd 2023; interacting with @Lea Hirsch, @Raizel Voltrouz and @Nicholas McCowan
Alyssea clapped. "Nice one!" She was afraid to ask who was next because that person might be her. She still wanted to observe the fun before she had a go at it.
She was slightly startled by the introduction of another guy, someone she had never met before. He gave off the vibes of a Sixth Year, or just someone much much older. If he was closer in age, his bald head wasn't helping his appearances.
Alyssea chuckled. "Lea's a duelling captain, so I don't think she'd give it up anytime soon. We're just having some friendly competition."
For a Saturday, this was already her favourite one of the year. Alyssea shrugged. "Say, you wanna wrestle Rai? She just won against Lea."

It had been a long while since Lea had actually arm wrestled someone. And with how much Lea had spurred this on, perhaps she was due for some humbleness. Raizel would get a grin of her own returned, hand tightly clasped as the Hufflepuff concentrated on the now intertwined hands. She would call a start to this battle yet as quickly as she shouted the words, Lea was already losing.
Already they were at a 45 degree angle to the table, Lea only able to pause the Gryffindor's descent for a few short seconds before her knuckles hit the wood and the round was over. The fourth year blinked, quickly pulling her arm back to her side as she stared at the center of the table before quickly glancing up to the second year. The smile was still on her face although it paused for just a second as Raizel muttered her slight confusion- losing wasn't too bad, Lea had done it plenty nor had she practiced at all for this sport, but letting someone else's expectations down... hurt far more than anticipated. The pang would only last a second though, before the Hufflepuff extended her arms out to motion the attention towards Raizel as she called out, "And our winner- Raizel of Gryffindor!! Now-" She turned to call on Alyssea, but a new person joined the crowd and his questions deserved priority for the time being.
"Arm wrestling! Surely you've heard of it?" He seemed the type to know and Lea, while enjoying her explanation of it, was less inclined to repeat the spiel every ten minutes. Surely the others could explain if need be. The second question would get furrowed eyebrows and a slightly confused head tilt in response along with a slow nod as Alyssea replied in her stead. "Right she is, not trading that in for any other sport." The other sports also involved flying, a skill Lea had never once possessed nor cared to.
Alyssea passing the opportunity on to wrestle, though, got a smile as Lea slinked away from the cleared seat and makeshift wrestling ring to offer the seat to one of the two. "Whichever one of you wants to step up to the plate, be my guest. Raizel, you don't mind a round two, do you?"

❂《 ⌜ February 3, 2024 ▎ Midday ⌟▛▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔Disappointed? Yes, that’s probably the word for whatever Raizel was feeling as she stares at the wooden table right before her. Her expectations were perhaps high but that wasn’t Lea’s fault. It was certainly hers for even assuming that the older Hufflepuff was strong… strength wise. She’s a duellist and, this is only based on her own observations, some duellists aren’t that physically strong. Heck, even Raizel falls in that category as she failed to break out of Axyen’s Petrificus Totalus.
As she was lost in her own thoughts, trying to let what happened sink in her mind, she had failed to notice the older Gryffindor student who had joined them, only snapping back to reality once she heard her name, give both Lea and Alyssea a confused stare and then to the newcomer. “Sure, I don’t mind.” She answered Lea but soon realized that she didn’t get what she just said. Wait, don’t mind what? It was only then that it finally clicked and that she’ll be facing off against this… older student who certainly looks like he could crush her arms.
Well, that’s okay, she supposed, maybe she needed a new and better arm since her aim had been off and despite how many time she practiced, there were no improvements. “Okay, let’s do this… I guess.” Unsure, the young Gryffindor still managed to let out a grin.

Nicholas shrugged, “Captains have given up sports before, wouldn’t be the first time.”
He didn’t feel any need to elaborate, his own story was not something he cared to divulge and he highly doubted these girls would care anyway. What mattered was that there was a chance at competition, a chance at something to do to pass the time and prove to himself that he still had something to offer. Was it poor sportsmanship to pit himself against duelists who likely spent more time practising flinging spells than lifting weights? Yes. He didn’t care.
Nicholas rolled his neck and shoulders, letting out a series of loud cracks and pops, before he took the seat opposite to the younger Gryffindor, “Aye, I know what arm wrestling is. I ‘aint one of those prissy purebloods.”
Answering the girl’s smile with one of his own, albeit one less friendly and more predatory than her own unsure expression, he extended his arm, offering it to grab in order to commence the match.
“Best of luck,” He offered genuinely, “But I don’t intend to go easy on you. Reputations, all that jazz, y’understand?”
He rolled his neck again, before letting his body settle into position, relaxed, arrogant and utterly ready.[/color]
