Draven's forehead was pressed against the cool table, a candle burning low beside him. He'd just finished returning all the books he'd stolen for the week, and his arms ached. He was behind. He was behind on all his classes, and every day he fell a little more behind.

Damn school. It had been easier when no one expected anything from him. When his only job was to stay out of Rory's way.

He'd been good at it too.

Her boyfriend's way though? Not so much.

Pushing himself up to a sitting position, Draven stretched out, pulling his notebook closer. It was hard to do DADA homework without touching his wand. But unless the library was feeling rather cold, and would have preferred to be set on fire, Draven wasn't planning on touching his wand anytime soon.

Yawning, the boy lowered his eyes back to the page underneath his arms. The ink had smudged and morphed, a blue mess that he couldn't have read even if his life depended on it. Bloody hell. Even the diagram was ruined.

Sleep was tugging at his eyes. No matter how much he got, it wasn't enough. It was like a switch had been flipped in him. He'd gone from going days without sleep to sleeping all the time, and he wasn't sure which one he disliked more.

Meluna grabbed her books she'd borrowed from the library off her night stand. She had been studying on magic spells again. She had gotten used to the idea of a wand even though she had a desire not to use it so much. She had explored so much of Hogwarts by this time, she had memorized a preferred path she liked to take. She hadn't liked the changing staircases all that much so she preferred to take the ones that didn't move and that meant more halls and passages but she didn't mind.

She kept the books held tight against her chest as she entered the library and glanced about on where to put some of her books away. She noticed a boy dowsing at one of the tables. It was a day of no classes but this boy appeared to be struggling with something. Meluna needed to put a book away that happened to be on the shelf behind him which worked out for her. At least she wasn't as timid as she used to be.

"Maybe a sleeping draft could help you sleep?" She said, taking seat across from him. "I wouldn't know where to find one, but at least you wouldn't smudge your homework." She assumed that's what it was.

Silence had reigned over the past six months of Draven's life. Interactions were few and far between, just as he liked them. The only person he spoke to fairly regularly was a certain boy @Kim Sato who, for some reason, had decided Draven was worth his time.

The boy swallowed hard, studying the book. He might as well have burned it, for all the good it was doing him. He'd spent more time with his head pressed against it than reading the words he'd painstakingly copied down.

Which was why, when the purple haired girl sat across from him with a tiny, knowing smile on her face, it took Draven a while to focus on her. His eyes snapped to the clean clothes and the filed-down nails, the purple eyes that reminded him of another girl.

"Sorry," he said after a moment of staring at the first year, gathering his books in a quick, efficient move. They disappeared down into his messenger bag a bit slower than was proper, but he was too damn exhausted to care about the haste of his actions.

"I'll move. I didn't realize this was your desk."

Climbing to his feet, the taller boy slung the bag across his shoulder, dusting down the horrid, thrift store shirt clinging to his form.

Meluna watched as the boy stood up and started packing his things. She blinked. She hadn't asked him to move. He just looked really tired. The dark circles of his eyes, the slow actions he took to pack his things. Meluna gave the boy a side smile. "I didn't say you had to leave." She corrected. "You look exhausted. Are you having issues sleeping at night?"

He didn't look like much. She hadn't come from much either, but his attire wouldn't have dissuaded her from speaking to him. Melunas own attire consisted of a comfortable pair of black leggings, jean shorts and a tank top she hid under a tight fitting blue jacket, soft to the touch. She liked to layer. "You can stay if you want to. I just came to return some books and pick up more to start reading on Magical Creatures." She gave him a nod. "Were you studying for something? Or did you find a book you didn't like?" She liked books but this boy attempting to leave left meluna trying to filter out the idea that she had done something wrong to make him want to leave so suddenly. Perhaps she could have moved from where she stood but she was stuck, fiddling with the covers of one of the book. She let herself fan the pages from that corner, something she did to ease the anxious feelings that came when things became awkward.

"Oh-" Draven paused. Staying was a lot easier than going.

The thought of the flight of stairs down to the Slytherin common room wasn't a pleasant one. Especially given how the portraits liked to jeer at him on the way down.

"It's not the falling asleep that's the problem," the boy said after a moment's hesitation, settling back down in his seat. "It's the staying awake." Sleep came easy to him. Too easy. It crept up on him in classrooms, in hallways, tugged at his lids in bathrooms and whispered in his ears during meals. It beckoned him closer, drawing him in. Leaving him relaxed, and comfortable, and slow.

The Slytherin swallowed, rolling his shoulders back. His fingers dug back through his bag, pulling out the single book he'd been using, and the scroll of parchment he'd been busy smudging. "Studying- yeah I'm." he blinked, looking down at his parchment. "Yeah. I think this was due- two? months ago?"

He shrugged. "Not that anyone's chasing me down for the homework. I doubt any of the teachers even know my name, with how much class I've been skipping." It wasn't his fault the damn locked doors made the walls close in on him. Or at least that was what he told himself.

Meluna considered the idea that this boy might not be the smartest tool in the shed. Meluna had a goal for her future career but she never though to slack off too much on her studies and homework. Mother wouldn't let her. "I see..." she didn't want him thinking she was done talking to him. Her knowledge encouraged her to level with him. "If you need help..." could she help him? She read many books but it would be a while before she could scratch the vast collection the library help on so many different subjects. "What subject are you studying for?" She asked instead. She placed her own books on the desk and sat down. "My name is Meluna by the way. Meluna Ravenwisp." She felt heat in her cheeks as she watched him. The situation seemed to become awkward to her. She was certain she had some sort of misshapen grin. Meluna loved books, perhaps the subject he studied is one of her strengths. Math she hated. She wouldn't touch math with a ten foot pole. At the very least she hoped it was maybe geometry since Algebra wasn't one of her strongest suits. Shapes seemed to like her at least.

“Dada,” Draven sighed, looking down at the mangled mess of parchment. It wasn’t even a hard assignment, really. Half a scroll on the subject of his choice. He wasn’t sure the professors could have been any more forgiving. “I’m reading the words and my brain is not processing them, you know?”

His hands were covered in pen ink. I want to go home, he thought, a bit miserably. A bit melodramatically. Though what was home but a feeling? Home certainly hadn’t been with Rory. Nor Abbadon.

“I’m Draven,” he said, blinking back to attention. “Mirador. Uh.” That had used to mean something. “Nice to meet you, Miss.”

“It’s- second year homework.” He said, after a beat. He hadn’t seen her shock of purple hair around Hogwarts before, he could only assume she was a first year. Tiny, too. Frail, and brightly coloured, and with a tendency to turn red. “It’s not hard, I just need to get myself to sit down and focus.” It was hard. It was damn hard. He preferred sleeping all day and hiding in corners. But Hogwarts was a safe place to stay. And if he didn’t straighten himself out, he wouldn’t be remaining there for much longer.
