Arise, Sir knight!
The air was crisp around the lake with plenty of trees around. Dennis dressed warm. He wore his favorite oversized sweater, Ravenclaw colored, his winter robes, and his Ravenclaw scarf. He often came out to play or just for a walk. The cold didn’t bother the kid, he was from the north so he had grown accustom to rather harsh winters. Today, however, was warmer than normal. Still cold enough to wrap up, but warm nonetheless.
It seemed others agreed, as there were other students milling about. Some out for a jaunt. Others seem to be meeting girlfriends or boyfriends. It seemed to be that time of year, Dennis scoffed. Gross. There were a few other students throwing rocks at the frozen lake, watching the pebbles bounce off the icy surface. This seemed like fun but they were pretty deep into conversation as Dennis approached. He was an outgoing kind of guy, but this group was older and perhaps wouldn’t want a bubbly first year bouncing up to them.
Dennis moved on, trying to find something to do or anyone to play with. Boys will be boys, or so the saying goes. Everyone seemed to be paired off or in groups today so Dennis would have to make his own adventure. That’s when he saw it. It was the solution to every bored boy’s imagination. The very salvation for the sin of having nothing to do: a stick. And not just any stick. It was the perfect stick. As Dennis neared it, sitting propped up against its tree, his imagination unlocked. He could see it clearly. Not just the perfect stick but a sword gleaming with the winter’s clear sun.
The Scot picked it up, having tracked through the snow to get it. He hoisted above his head, his mighty excalibur. “Hah hah!” He yelled boastfully as he gave it a good smack against the tree. It didn’t break. Mighty indeed for a mighty knight! He gave the tree another good thwap. Again the mettle of his blade held true. He swished it in the air and struck a heroic pose. Now to find a valiant foe.

Arise, Sir knight!
31st January 2024 Great LakeA chilly breeze ruffled Harley's fringe as it peeked from under his black beanie. It was a great day for a stroll by the Great Lake. The crisp winter cold was just for his liking. Not too frosty and not boiling either. Just perfect. Perhaps some of his friends also felt the same way, and he'd find them there. He dressed in his buttoned up winter robes, adorned with the Hufflepuff crest. Topped off with his favourite black and yellow House scarf, just in case it turned a little too nippy.
Harley balanced along a stone wall as he made his way down the lakefront. Pondering what to do, he glanced around at his peers. There seemed to be many of them out and about today. Though he didn't seem to know any of them. What a bummer; it would've made his predicament easier to solve. 'Just stroll over and strike up a conversation' was his plan. Easier with friends he knew, but with strangers... Eh, a little more challenging. Not impossible though. Just to find the right person.
His blue eyes scanned the shore... nothing. Then the fields, stretched out in front of him. Still no-one interesting. Just a bunch of sappy teens and pre-teens. His face scrunched together at the sight. Yikes. "Eww." He sneered quietly, hopping off of the wall. Wasting no time to turn in a different direction.
Still searching, his gaze fell upon a tree... being battered by a boy with a stick? He tilted his head to the side slightly. One eyebrow lifted, sporting a smirk. He'll do, Harley thought. Picking up a big stick jutting out from under the snow. A mighty one at that. Harley sneaked over. Poke! "Gotcha!" he giggled. "Harley one; unassuming Ravenclaw zero!" Snickering, he took a step back, allowing the boy to turn and face him. "Y'alright mate! Having fun sparring a tree by tha'sen?"

Arise, Sir knight!
Dennis surveyed the land. Alas there were no challengers. Of course, no one would dare to challenge him. For he was a knight and none were brave enough to challenge his reign as champion. Or so the 11 year old boy imagined. A few onlookers stared but then went on their way, giving him a wide berth.
In between the soft chattering in the distance and the couples walking past, Dennis thought he heard something. A challenger? A critter? He wasn’t sure but he heard no more. It must have been his over active imagination summoning a foe. That must be it. Little did the Ravenclaw know that he should have listened to those sense for in the next moment he felt something poke him through his cloak.
He whirled around, cloak flowing behind him and faced his attacker. A Hufflepuff. Dennis was at once shocked and impressed that a Hufflepuff even had the gull to make the first move. “Impressive,” the Ravenclaw said with a flourish of his trusty saber. “I will soon settle this score, you scoundrel!” Flashing a grin, Dennis drew his sword to the ready.
Then he pounced, lounging forward as fast as he could, sword drawn high for a long slash downward. Time to show this Hufflepuff who the boss was.

Arise, Sir knight!
31st January 2024 Great Lake"Ow!" Harley winced as the Ravenclaw's bold strike connected, hitting him on the forehead. It was a wholly unexpected attack, taking the young Hufflepuff completely off guard. But he was not out of the game yet!
It didn't take long for Harley's playfulness to return as he got into character. "Who're you calling a scoundrel?! You're on!" A devious smirk stretched across his face. Committed to defend his honour and reputation as a renowned swordsman of this realm!
The air hung heavy between the two eleven-year-olds. A duel of the ages have commenced. A truly spectacular occasion. And soon, the finest Knight of Hogwarts shall be declared!
A couple of Gryffindors walked past the boys, giggling. Whatever they found funny, Harley gave them no mind. He was truly lost in a world of his own. Or to be more accurate, a world of their own. His attention stood undivided, fully focused on the Ravenclaw duellist in front of him.
Bolstered with resolve, Harley committed to a strike of his own, dragging his greatsword to his left for a wide horizontal sweep. "Have that, you fiend!" He goaded his foe. The time for games and tricks was over. The fight had begun!

Arise, Sir knight!
Dennis felt his attack connect. He winced though at how hard he might have struck the stranger. Perhaps he should not been so bold with his strike. He didn’t actually want to hurt anyone, he would have to remember to take it easy the next time.
The red head almost dropped character thinking that the game had ended so shortly but was pleasantly surprised when the other boy regained his composure. Dennis was happy to find a friend with as big an imagination as he. “Are you all talk then, fellow knight? Or are you going to do something about it?” He billowed with as much bravado as he could muster.
“Ravenclaw has evened the score! Hufflepuff is nothing now!” He chortled with his hands on his hips. Forgetting for a moment the game they were playing. That proved to be his undoing as the next he knew his opponent had flung himself headlong into a counter attack with a wide arcing slice of his blade. “Woah!” Dennis said trying to jump back. He was at the disadvantage because of the tree roots and the blow knocked him back, his heels catching on one of said roots and falling backward.
Dennis coughed and dusted himself off. Regaining his composure and smiling so the other boy knew he was ok, he said, “I see you have plenty of fight left in you. Let’s see how you handle this!” Dennis jumped in the air and jabbed his stick straight at his chest. ‘Let’s see him dodge this!’ He thought.

Arise, Sir knight!
31st January 2024 Great LakeHarley's eyes widened as his sweeping attack caught its target. Maybe that was a bit too much, sending the boy back a little harder than he intended. He paused for a moment, but a wave of relief washed over him when the boy flashed a smile. Returning one of his own in kind, he refrained from claiming the score out loud. Not after a hit like that.
A light chuckle escaped Harley at the red head's boasting, responding in kind. "You've seen nothing yet!" He spoke too soon. Watching as the boy leaped into the air with a stabbing motion. Frantic, the dirty-blonde Hufflepuff attempted to throw the other boy's stick off course with a swing of his own. Missing it entirely, the abrupt sting of the jab stumbling him back a couple of metres. But, not before his misjudged parry turned into an accidental swing at his opponent.
His eyes narrowed at the Ravenclaw, the corner of his mouth quirking up into a smirk. "Not bad." Harley took a moment to give the boy a glance over before speaking up. "What's thy name, Sir knight?" Deciding to stay in character for the question. He wasn't sure if they've met before. Could've seen him around the castle, but they, certainly never interacted.

Arise, Sir knight!
The Hufflepuff talked big game and even got a lucky shot in. If it hadn’t been for that root, Dennis was sure he could have avoided the fellow. However, the ginger’s latest attack proved too much for the warrior as he tried to block but was helpless in the face of Dennis’ jab. It connected and pushed the knight back, making him feel a sense of victory.
A wild swing of a parry came from the blonde but Dennis easily batted it away with his saber. Stalking his prey, the Ravenclaw let the Hufflepuff straighten himself up. He would win this contest on fair ground. The boy finally spoke and asked of his name. “Dennis,” he said boastfully, hitting his chest with his free hand. “Of house Tumberton, first of my name. And you, good sir. What shall I call you?”
The boy wasn’t made of tougher stuff. He was spry and quick on his feet but he definitely didn’t have it in him to launch into another attack so soon. He took this moment to also collect himself. He would catch his opponent with a counter attack. “Is that all you got? I thought a Hufflepuff would have more stamina. I suppose not.” He boasted, trying to taunt his opponent into attacking. Dennis was slightly out of breath from the exertion and buying some time so he could caught the boy off guard.
