Small sobs echoed through the corridor. A girl was curled up against the wall, crying. Tears welled from deep inside and coursed down her cheeks. Why... she wondered as she buried her head in her arms. Why do people have to be so mean?

Earlier...
Viva ran into the castle, tears already trickling down her cheeks. She passed several people, all of whom looked at her with concern. She ignored them, continuing to run. Viva had meant to make it all the way to the common room, but she hadn't gotten far before she couldn't run any further. Ducking into a smaller and emptier corridor, she went a little ways in before stopping and leaning against the wall. It was dark, dreary, and cold in the corridor, and the stone floor was hard. A torch was in a socket on one side of the wall. Slowly, the crying girl sunk down to the floor and curled up, sobbing her heart out.

Present...
Still on the cold floor of the corridor, a tightening of her throat and a short intake of breath led to Viva continuing to cry. The flickering light from the torch illuminated the small corridor, casting strange shadows on the ground.
