Aj sighed heavily to herself as she struggled to set down her books nicely. The library was almost quiet, but a few yapping students wasn't her issue at the moment. Growing up, Aj was introduced to magic studies at a very young age, but one thing her parents never managed to explain to her was potions.

"OK...."
AJ hummed, flipping through her text book with quill in hand. she bit her lip, frustrated until she finally found the page. 'Cure for Boils' she began writing down all the information she needed. As Aj wrote, she began noticing that all of the information in the book was the exact way she had performed the potion earlier that day in class!
"What?"

she exclaimed after a moment, letting her quill drop to the table as she held the sides of her head before grabbing the book and bringing it closer to her face so she could reread the text.
"I did exactly that!"

she groaned, setting her book down before resting her head on top of it. Aj was a great student, she prided herself on getting amazing grades and never failing, but this potions class was really testing her ability at being a great student. AJ sat up after a moment and took in a deep breath before picking up her quill once more, she would just have to take it slow and learn as much as she could so she could retake the test and get a better scoring.

Allie had always found that information and knowledge came naturally to her like breathing. Whenever she was introduced to a new concept, it only took her a few tries or experiments to familiarize herself with it and be able to explain it to her other classmates. She supposed that it was only natural that she was going to be sorted into the Ravenclaw house once she received her acceptance letter to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, but that didn't mean that she was the kind of person to boast her intelligence or belittle people. Some of the stereotypes were that Ravenclaws were a bit snobby about being smart, but Allie thought that was just plain rude. Allie just liked to learn, and that was enough for her.

Being someone who loved to learn new things, it was no surprise that the best place for Allie to spend her free time between classes than at the library, and that was exactly where she was after eating dinner at the Great Hall. She wandered up and down the aisles, glancing quickly over the titles printed on the spines of the worn books, searching for any that caught her interest. She finally pulled one called 'Felix Felicis and Other Unlucky Potions' off the shelf and gave it a look through.

AJ groaned loudly, slapping her forehead with her hand as she rested on her elbows, she felt as if there was no way she was going to ever learn this material because she felt as if she had known everything to begin with! Maybe potions wasn’t her thing, but she wasn’t going to give up.
“Ok ok...you got this AJ.”

The 1st year gryffindor encouraged herself, tapping her quill against the paper she had been previously writing on, her bottom lip between her teeth so tightly she could make herself bleed
“You got this. You just need to focus!”

It wasn’t Aj’s fault that she was so terrible at potions, her parents never even talked about the subject! Her mother had been more about charms, while her father loved defense against the dark arts, so she spent more time on those topics rather than the more important ones....well, those ones are just as important....
“I’m doomed!”

AJ cried out loud as she tried going over the material again, resting her face in her hands as she groaned softly, not caring about the looks other students were throwing her way. She hated feeling so helpless, AJ usually was able to figure things out on her own with no help needed. She hated the feeling on needing help, and right now was definitely one of those moments...

Allie continued to wander around down the aisle with her nose stuck in the book before someone's exclamation of frustration startled her out of her place. She quickly clutched the book to her chest with her finger acting as a bookmark before she wandered to the end of the aisle she was in and peeking around the corner slightly to see where that sudden shout had come from. She came face to face with a girl with long brown hair who seemed as though she was really going through a hard time.

Allie noticed that the girl was wearing a red tie instead of a blue or yellow one like she was used to seeing. 'Red... that's Gryffindor.' Allie thought to herself before making her presence known to the other girl. She cleared her throat softly to get the girls attention. "Sorry to interrupt, but I couldn't help but notice that you might be having some trouble over here. Is there anything that I can do to help you?" Allie leaned carefully onto the bookshelf that was on her left while she waited for the girl's answer. She couldn't help but peek a little bit at what the girl was working on. "Is that potions? I'm not too good at potions myself, but maybe I can help you out a little bit."

AJ looked up, her face reddening with embarrassment as she met eyes with the Ravenclaw. She hadn't been expecting someone to come over to her, she was just hoping nobody would bother her and leave her to her own self loathing.
"Er…"

AJ stumbled over her words for a moment before sighing heavily. maybe getting help from someone wouldn't be too bad, at this point, AJ would do anything to get a better grade.
"I would really appreciate the help.."

the Gryffindor girl smiled at the stranger awkwardly as she moved her chair over slightly so the other girl could join her.
"I'm AJ, by the way..im in Gryffindor."

AJ fiddled with her red and gold tie, still feeling awkward as ever..
"As you could probably tell..."

AJ cleared her throat before eyeing the textbook that sat opened on the table in front of them. AJ sighed heavily once more as she rested her head in her hands, feeling pitiful once more.
"I've been struggling on getting the recipes correct...it just seems that everything I do ends up not working!"

"I've never really had to deal with potions, neither of my parents liked it so they never had me study any of it...though now I'm wishing that I just did it anyways.."
AJ spoke softly, peering up at her new companion from between her fingers.

Allie couldn't help but noticed how quickly AJ's face flushed red in embarrassment. She could tell that AJ probably hadn't expected anyone to hear her, let alone come over and see if she needed any help, especially since it seemed that everyone expected Gryffindors to be overly confident about everything. Allie hated the stereotypes that came associated with different houses and preferred to see people as they actually were than what people expected them to be.

"Yeah, I get what you mean. It took me a while to really learn the proportions for things. I like exact measurements when it comes to making something and I really struggle when it tells you to do two parts of this to one part of that." She let out a small laugh before taking a seat next to the other girl. "Yeah, my mother was big on doing Charms around the house and my dad was more into Herbology than anything. He even has his own garden in our backyard that he lets me help out with, so potion was never something I learned from my parents either, but luckily we have each other to help. Which potion are you trying to do?" She rested her elbow on the table.
