It was a lovely Friday afternoon. Morning classes have just ended, the chatter of students echoed throughout the castle corridors. The soft chatter of the owls from the owlery chatted a sweet melody. The footsteps of many students echoed throughout the corridors.

Walking down the corridors towards the courtyard was Helena her honey blonde hair swayed. Her mind seemed to be filled to the brim with many thoughts. Helena knew today was a special day, but she couldn’t think about what it was. The young girl continued to ponder as she continued trekking down the corridor.

Helena continued to ponder today had to be important, the young girl pondered as she continued her trek. That was when Helena remembered what today actually was. Helena always dreaded this day honestly maybe because she was surrounded by other children her age that acted just like her parents' blood purist and thought they were better. Many were stuck up and just was not Helena’s cup of tea to say. Afterall Helena may not have had actual friends growing up but she did have one could say childhood acquaintances that was forced to be around nonetheless and today was one of their birthdays.

Helena’s ocean blue eyes widened in shock as she dropped her text books out of the sheer surprise her mind gave her. Which made the student that passed her give her questioning looks.

Helena knelt down quickly grabbing her textbooks pressing them tightly to her chest. Helena paled slightly as guilt washed over the young girl.

Helena shook her head, collecting her thoughts. The young Hufflepuff girl decided to hunt down the young Slytherin girl. Helena made her journey towards the courtyard while on her trek to finds Remedy. Helena quickly looked around her surroundings and the young honey blonde girl's thoughts seemed to swim.

Helena was not even sure what she was even going to do? She had no present, but she figured it was the thought that matters right? Maybe or maybe not after all it was Remedy. Helena did not know the girl well besides the encounters their parents forced upon the girls which included birthday parties to the young Rose girls dismay. Helena hated parties, but she also despised being around so many people they just thought they were better than others.

While searching for Remedy, Helena pondered where the Slytherin girl was hiding off at. As Helena approached closer to the water fountain that rested in the center of the courtyard. Helena noticed a family black haired girl nearby. Smiling shyly, Helena moved swiftly towards Remedy. The Hufflepuffs ocean blue eyes were drowning with nerves.

As Helena approached Remedy she gazed nervously at the other girl, a soft smile appearing on her ivory pale face.

“Um? Hello Remedy. I am glad I found you. I apologize I meant to find you earlier, but with classes it was a tad hectic. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday. That is today correct?”

Helena spoke shyly, her pale face covered in a dust of baby pink blush as she lowered her head. Her honey blonde hair covered her ocean blue eyes as uncertainty swam inside them. Helena after all was certain today was Remedy’s birthday or at least she figured it was sense her parents did tend to force on this exact date to go to the Nordens residency for a birthday party and it usually in Remedy’s honor, but alas Helena would not be surprised if she confused the dates. After all she was forced to many parties and gathering for pureblood children that her parents knew of to help Helena make the “proper” friends is what they called it.

Helena never understood the meaning of “proper” friends, maybe because they were all purebloods, but does that really matter at all?

Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
--------------
---
----

An unusual sorrow had befallen Remedy, a small seed of tragedy within now achieving novel heights in pangs of frustration and pessimism. Of course, this wasn't to say that Remedy despised her birthday. No, that was far from the truth, for young Remedy had always treasured this day. But, just as the silent whisper of a cold front creepily approached Scotland's coatlines, it would also strike Remedy's heart for this year served a somber reminder that Remedy would be celebrating the next six years without the company of her adoring family.

Yet, the day commenced in wake of a letter and a singular small, pristinely decorated parcel at breakfast. Upon opening her family's classic gold and navy blue seal and devouring the words on the page, a smile touched Remedy's lips as her eyes scanned a boldly written 'Happy Birthday!' Further down the letter, they explained that her larger gifts would remain home for an owl could not embark the journey to and fro. The girl glanced at the parcel and placed it on her lap, holding the letter close to her chest in a tight embrace before focusing her attention to the small package. The girl had no reservations with delaying the opening of her larger gifts until holiday; truth being told and despite many's dismay, Remedy wasn't at all materialistic. Instead, she simply appreciated the day for the festivities and the elevating and adoring companionship of her friends and family.

She imagined that the 15th would be strange for her parents as well; the Nordens taking advantage of the yearly opportunity to invite their own elite-class workmates and schoolfriends to Remedy's celebration. They would be among the very few who had witnessed Remedy develop from a infant to adolescent; some of them even had children who were close in age. While her birthdays had always remained the jovial occasion, much expectation would be instilled in the child early on to elevate the Nordens' image with her charisma, modest etiquette, and their signature ambitious flare.

Most of this would come naturally, but there was always 'the talk' to remind Remedy to be a best version of herself when notable figures made appearances to her birthday parties.

At least Remedy would be free of that, this is, for the most part.

A sigh expelled from the stricken Remedy as she glanced down at the parcel, a sadness creeping in as she gently pulled the lid off the box revealing a pristine ivory quill. A passive smile touched her lips in appreciation as she secured her new quill in its protective case, then slid it into her bag before exiting the Great Hall to attend the first class of the day.

The day quickly passed, and Remedy sought the outdoors to clear her mind of the turmoil within.
She sat alone in the courtyard as she wrote a response to her family's letter, new quill scribbling feverously in hand. Her face contorted with emotions as she wrote describing her past week, but as a familiar face came to view, a smirk crossed her features.

They hadn't held much conversation since the sorting ceremony, and while the pangs of betrayal had since subsided, Remedy truly avoided the Hufflepuff girl to better allot her time with people of worth. Although it wasn't that Helena could not be of use for the future, Remedy aimed to be the best, and that meant she'd spend her time in company of those who could satiate her thirst for superiority.

Perking her head up to observe the sheepish Hufflepuff speak, her smirk had yet to fade as she paused her writing. Helena wished her a happy birthday, but remained uncertain of the date. The girl internally debated how she wished to respond for a mere second.

Helena certainly wasn't the first student to bid Remedy a happy birthday, but Remedy was far from surprised Helena would make her attempt to make her debut after being casted off by the Slytherin several weeks before. It appeared that Helena needed Remedy, but yet the same couldn't be said reversed. However, she'd make a damn good pawn if Remedy had the need. Hufflepuffs were incredibly loyal, so her father had said. Tt would be a shame to not use that when the opportunity arises.

"Thank you, Helena." Remedy responded with poise as she maintained a deadly eye contact and a vicious smirk. "Are you feeling well?"

Helena gave Remedy a soft gaze while clinging tightly to her textbooks. The young blonde but her lower lip softly in a nervous habit as her brain seemed to swim around with thoughts.

Helena always felt intimidated by Remedy from her appearance down to her signature smirk. That smirk always seemed a bit off like a snake ready to attack its prey. But surely Remedy was not a snake, well she was in Slytherin so having a trait of a snake did swim in her blood, but also Helena she knew down right her house was not meant for her. She would be in Slytherin about now with Remedy.

Helena’s ocean blue eyes seemed to be drowning with uncertainty and nervousness. As if the girl herself was drowning in her own self doubt. Not only that, the young girl had no idea how to interact or even get along well with others.

Helena’s grasp on her books got tighter, her knuckles turning a ghostly white as she tried to collect her thoughts.

“Hope your day is going well…”

Helena softly spoke in her elegant soft as a feather tone. Though her voice was a tad bit softer at this moment. The honey blonde girl was not certain what to say or even interact with Remedy.

Wracking her brain Helena examined the other girl quietly with her glistening blue eyes trying to get a clue or anything to try and start a conversation. Though conversations were not Helena’s thing and she would rather be nose deep in a book she figured she would definitely try to be at least polite.

“Classes are a tad boring though. You think they would teach more interesting things. I suppose with having students from the muggle world they have to make the lessons easier. Quite frankly it is unfair. I rather have a challenge and these classes are not very challenging.”

Helena spoke once again her soft tone a tad bit higher still soft to the touch. Her posh elegant tone seemed to resonate around her. After all her love for learning seemed to be lacking without a challenge.

Glancing over at the Slytherin girl that was in front of her. Helena seemed to relax her shoulders and arms slightly though the grip on her books were still ever so tight.

After all Remedy was a Norden even though their fathers seemed to get along rather well. Helena could not just outright trust the other girl even if they had grown up around each other. Helena knew better, but at the same time she knew that they at least we're semi-friends at least so she thought. What could possibly go wrong?

Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
--------------
-------
Blessed are the meek. A curious Remedy often pondered how someone like Helena, fragile and easy, could survive in this harsh world. Blessed are the meek, she mused again with a smirk. Perhaps that was some weak fool's perspective or final dying wish, someone obviously unworthy of power.

Ruling under a different mantra, the Slytherin had remembered a darker adage that held more truth than those silly fables: 'You don't get what you deserve -- you only get what you take;' a token phrase uttered from many Norden lips. Dark eyes examined Helena's tensed body language with a hardened stare; the girl had tendency to fold in Remedy's presence. A glimmer of plausible hesitance from the way her knuckles turned white, feathery tone rattled with uncertainty, and a general lack of confidence behind her ocean-hued doe eyes. Remedy had detected these small subtleties early on in their youth, but the dots did not truly collect sense until that of recent. Helena was always different. She was blind to the truth before her then, but the haze lifted. Helena was never a liar, nor had she ever betrayed the Slytherin. Helena lead with something even more powerful than loyalty; fear.

Lifting her bag to her other side, Remedy gestured Helena to sit beside her on the fountain's ledge as she continued to speak about muggles and classes. A smile had touched her lips trying to appease the worry that radiated from the Hufflepuff. While the girl was skeptical if this was truly Helena's beliefs or a fib to appease the venomous brunette, she didn't object and nodded in agreement as her response was one statement that Remedy could agree wholeheartedly with.

"Yes, it makes me wish I could attend Durmstrang to learn real magic." She responded with a grimace, her eyes scanning the courtyard as though hunting for muggles this very second. "I do agree, I think Hogwarts has dumbed down the curriculum to appease muggleborns."

While the lack of sustenance and challenge weighed heavy on her opinions of mugglesborns, Remedy did find herself rather...curious.. about them. Filthy blood, sure, but somehow wielded magic nonetheless. Did that make them rare, genetic marvels, or just lucky? Were they worthy of such power?

"I actually have yet to meet a muggleborn. I have my suspicions with many, but not confirmed. What about you?" she said. Remedy turned to face Helena with her classic smirk upon her lips, silently positioned like a arrow pulled back awaiting Helena's answer. A test of her loyalty, of a bloodborne promise unspoken but highly revered among their kind. Helena Rose was of prestige and Remedy expected a solid answer, but Hogwarts was full of secrets. Would Helena tread these dangerous waters with eloquence or drown?

⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅︶꒦꒷♡꒷꒦︶⋅ʚ♡ɞ⋅
Helena gazed softly towards Remedy. Eyeing the taller girl curiously. As the Norden girl moved her bag in a gesture for Helena to sit down beside the girl. The golden haired girl shifted slightly before sitting beside the taller girl.

The golden haired girl listened to Remedy drawl on. Helena had gotten used to Remedy’s tone; it was rather relaxing in a way, but the young Hufflepuff girl could not shake the fact that something was off. Maybe it was her malicious smirk that she would have every so often. Or maybe it was the fact that the other girl seemed like a snake luring its prey into its trap. But at the same time Remedy also seemed like a good or maybe decent friend to say the least, but then again even a good friend can betray one? Right?

Zoning out slightly Helena did not catch much of what Remedy was talking about besides when she mentioned muggleborns. To Helena's knowledge she has not met any muggleborns. She did meet a young girl on the train, but to her knowledge she was a half-blood.

Helena, thinking carefully, glanced over at Remedy smiling shyly brushing her bangs from in front of her face softly.

“Of course not. I do not have time for muggleborns or at least to my knowledge many of my comrades are purebloods.”

Helena spoke softly, gazing towards the other girl quietly. Helena knew if she mentioned Bex it would cause problems and the young girl would rather not involve the other girl into her problems.

Afterall Helena made a friendship pact in a way with the other girl, she felt it was her duty to protect the other girl from purebloods like Remedy.

Though Helena had no harsh feelings towards the other girl she knew how she was raised and it was best to protect the other girl from being in the mere presence of the intimidating girl.

Thinking quietly to herself Helena gazed upwards towards the sky watching the clouds sluggishly as the golden haired girl bit the inside of her cheek nervously. Her sea blue eyes watching the clouds quietly before returning her gaze back towards Remedy.

“Are you at least enjoying your day at least? It must be strange. Not being home for her special day?”

Speaking softly the girl questioned softly wondering how the other girl was adjusting. Attending such a large vast school was a tad bit overwhelming honestly. Plus it must be strange especially for someone like Remedy who seemed rather close to her family. Helena always envied Remedy for her relationship with her parents. Oh how Helena wished to be slightly noticed in a way.

Remedy's Dialogue #796f4e
--------------
-------
A bitter smile befell the Slytherin's lips as she slightly lowered her head;

Remedy grew visibly hushed as her beady eyes dissected and cherry picked cues from Helena's body language, capturing clues to a puzzle that slowly began to form within the darkest corners of her mind. Her jaw clenched in silent anguish as she noted Helena zoning out and staring at the sky; did the Hufflepuff not approach Remedy in the first place, so why was she acting so bored? Perhaps the strawberry-blonde haired girl was hiding something, solely based upon her how she appeared to hide behind her sheepish smile, her trembling tone, and avoidance of the wolfish girl's gaze. Rather than a smirk appearing upon her features, a lingering grimace replaced it as visible disappointment befell Remedy's facade.

Her demeanor rapidly dampened as she slowly realized Helena was lying; the only missing piece was of what could possibly sway Helena to do such a thing. The Slytherin couldn't piece that part together, yet she withheld many speculations that prompted her to betray Remedy this way. One thing was for certain, a true friend wouldn't lie even regardless of what circumstances could have been. Helena wasn't loyal to nor trusted Remedy; the girl nodded solemnly to herself accepting this sense of rejection, the loss of a prospective friend.

"I see," Remedy spoke plainly, turning away from Helena as her darkened orbs absorbed the sight of meandering students chatting and laughing amongst themselves. This is what Remedy desired from Helena, a friendship, but the Hufflepuff girl appeared to ignore and reject every attempt of the Slytherin trying to put herself out there. It had gotten to the point Remedy had begun to stop caring and stop trying, her tries of speaking her genuine feelings going unnoticed. Yet Remedy couldn't fathom why she cared; if it were anyone else, the Slytherin would have moved on by now.

Helena was different though in every possible way; perhaps the wolfish girl cared because she had always wanted a little sister. Someone the Slytherin could protect, to guide, to instill her charisma and confidence and make a better version than Remedy herself. She knew the Rose's were hard on Helena, and wanted to help in some way, but Helena didn't care about Remedy so why did she bother.

As the sky above them began to darken, so would her temperament moving forward.

"It is strange, indeed." She remarked. Her sullen gaze turned upwards as grey wispy clouds stealthily approached like a wolf on the hunt. "It appears it's going to rain. I'll see you in class?"

Helena closely watched Remedy curiously. The golden haired girl watched the darker harried girl closely. Helena felt guilty not telling Remedy the truth about knowing half-bloods and muggles, but she was
also terrified to tell Remedy the truth. Fearing the truth would make her dislike or even hate the girl.

Helena’s sea blue eyes seemed to radiate uncertainty and cautiousness. The young girl listened to Remedy as she spoke. Making the golden haired girl a tad bit uncertain of what to say or do.

Even with the happy chatter of other students happily chatting and getting along. Helena was slowly envious of them. The young girl wanted to be closer to Remedy, but at the same time the young girl was always cautious she had no idea if Remedy was to be trusted or not along with how she can be fairly charming and blunt the golden haired girl always felt like she had no idea how to feel about Remedy.

Helena admired Remedy and was quite envious to the point she always felt like she wanted to be similar to the young girl, but at the same time Helena rather be her own person at the same time.
As it seemed to linger among the girls Helena was rather cautious what to say or do she was after all uncertain at the same time. What could she say to continue the conversation? Helena felt a tad overwhelmed knowing what to even say to the darker ravenette haired girl.

Following Remedy’s gaze upwards Helena listened to her speak. Glancing over at the other girl Helena smiled softly. Uncertainty still swam in her eyes, but she truly did care about the other girl deep down.

“Should we walk back together? That is if you do not mind.”

Helena spoke softly as she gazed over at Remedy kindly.

Dialogue #796f4e
Marble Borders by Ulysses Drake

Seldom did words move the wolfish girl quite like this, evoking emotions of enigmatic nature within the Slytherin.

Remedy struggled to discern the thoughts swirling about her -- if it was wrath, sorrow, lament creeping over her sullen countenance, or somehow traces of all of the three. A girl of such high esteem and token pedigree had never felt rarely felt so low before; at least, never from someone the girl deemed lesser anyway. And the only thought the black haired girl could articulate within in the perplexing myriad of thoughts that tugged her heart every which way, was; how dare she?

Did Helena view Remedy as a fool? Was the illusion of innocence serving a role in a master crafted act? Could Helena even possess the intellect needed to pull off such a ruse? Did she honestly believe that Remedy wasnt privy to her guise of flattery?

Brown narrowed orbs fixated upon Helena's face once more, her dark gaze as piercing as daggers. No more would Remedy shy away from Helena's deceit; if the Hufflepuff chose to continue this game and carry on her ruse, it'd be to Remedy's face. It wasn't that the Slytherin willingly choose to tolerate the lies, but rather desired for Helena to drown in her own turbulent sea of hypocrisy, should the badger so wish.

If that was the case, two could play at that game.

With a wry smile playing on her lips, though her eyes portrayed a different emotion, Remedy tilted her head and spoke with confidence: "Whatever you want to do, Helena," her words were a double-edged sword to the present and their gambit, dripping with venom like a viper poised to strike unsuspecting prey; "I don't care." Remedy folded her letter into her cloak's pocket and elegantly rose to her feet as a cooling breeze started to stir the foliage around them. She brushed aside the ebony locks that danced across her visage and draped her enchanted leather satchel over her shoulder as her gaze alternated between the large wooden doors and Helena, "So, what will it be, Helena Rose?"

Her inquiry carried an implicit depth, transcending the surface of Helena's wishes to stay or follow Remedy to their shared class. Their gazes connected for a fleeting moment, an eerie pause hanging in the air between girls. Her token smirk curled the corners of the Slytherin's lips, anticipation building within Remedy as she awaited a cue from Helena that her unspoken malice riddled message had been acknowledged.

The Vipress turned away and abandoned Helena, her departure from the courtyard would be accompanied by a chuckle that escaped her lips as she trekked to her next class.
