Minnie looked up from her floating and saw Tracey calling her over. "I'll be right there!" She called back, delighted to be able to talk to her again. Is this what friends do? I think this will be great! She looked over at Tracey and saw another girl talking to her. Huh. Tracey must be really good at making friends!

She swam over to them, waving. "Hey Tracey!" Then she saw the other girl next to Tracey. "Kaitlyn! Hi!" Minnie smiled. "Nice to see you guys." She swam a bit closer. "I hope I'm not intruding on the conversation." A fear came into her mind. What if I appear rude? What if Tracey realizes I can't talk to people? She sighed mentally. People are too hard. I wish I could just read with them or something. She shook her thoughts away and tried to focus on what the two girls were talking about. "I heard you talking about swimming?" She tried to stop herself from being nervous. I know these people. Tracey is most definitely my friend. No need to be nervous. Minnie started to feel a bit tired from holding herself up in the water for so long. It would be much easier to hold a conversation if she wasn't in the water, although it did help a bit with her nerves. "Do you want to continue this conversation out of the water? I don't really care, but if you guys get tired we can go to the shore." She winced at what she said. I hope they don't mind. She thought. "It just seems easier than trying to talk and stay afloat at the same time. Do you guys think that would be alright, because I just want to be able to have a conversation easier." Minnie said.

When Tracey called her friend, Minnie over, Kaitlyn felt her face flush lightly. ‘I know a Minnie …’ She trailed off in her mind, hoping it was the same girl. She looked over at Tracey, she noticed Tracey’s hair changing. From all brown to brown with blonde highlights. She enjoyed seeing other girls with unique hair like that, and she was honestly intrigued that Tracey had that feature about her. She giggled to Tracey’s suggestion. “Awe-awesome, I cannot wa-wait,” she smiled, brighter now. She enjoyed to swim, and would love to do so with a friend.

Katie shrugged at Tracey’s whispered comment about a Ravenclaw boy. “I gu-guess that could ha-happen to anyone,” she responded, quietly. “But, it d-does sound impressive to br-breeak two pots,” she giggled quietly. She noticed her stuttering diminish a bit, happy to see it. Tracey was easy to talk to, which was a benefit. She looked to Tracey’s hair again and smiled brightly. “I actually like the blonde highlights, I think they look nice. But, yes, I think you’d look good as a blonde,” she suggested with a smile.

When Minnie came over, Katie’s face flushed a little more. Despite her blush, she was happy to see the Hufflepuff. ‘I enjoyed dancing with her. I hope she feels the same as me,’ she thought. She smiled to Minnie. “Hi Minnie! It’s good to see you again,” she replied, with a brighter smile. “You’re not intruding, don’t worry,” she added with a giggle. “Yes, we were talking about swimming … um … Tracey mentioned about swimming here in the lake with staff supervision,” she responded.

Katie could not blame Minnie for asking about leaving the water. Between the cold and how the girls were dressed to be in the water in the first place, it was a little uncomfortable. At the same time, she didn’t want to be the only one staying or leaving, either. She needed friends, and wouldn’t mind hanging out with the two girls. “Um … I honestly don’t mind either way. Whatever you two prefer, I don’t mind,” she smiled at them. While getting out of the water would be easier, it would also open her up to her nervous ticks. She just hoped she didn’t scare them off, Tracey and Minnie seemed quite nice.

Quinn shivered and came up splutering. Ophelia laughed then headed off. Quinn waved goodbye.
"We should definetly meet up in the commen room sometime!" Quinn called after her. Quinn shivered again then waded into the water. Quinn wondered if her rock was touching other kids rocks. Then my rock wouldn't be alone I guess. I hope I never am again. Quinn shivered at the thought. Or maybe that was just the water. Quinn heard a whistle.
"Time to get out!" Quinn shouted then started wading as fast as she could toward the professer.

Quinn got in the long line and finnaly made it to the front of the line. The person in front of her seemed a little distressed. Quinn took her Pigmy Puff slippers with joy and walked over to her spot dried off. Quinn turned toward the girl again. She had ripped the slippers off her feet. Quinn sighed then walked over to her. I hope she's ok. Quinn thought. Quinn walked over to the girl and tapped her shoulder.
"Um, are you good? You look a little concered. I really enjoy these slippers, they are quite soft don't you think." Quinn hoped that she didn't offend the girl. Quinn smiled then shivered again. I should really put on my sweatpants and sweater. Quinn wondered what the girl was so concered about again.
"Uh, by the way, hi I'm Quinn." Quinn smiled sweetly at the girl trying to make a good impression.

At some point during her mini breakdown, a girl had walked up to Matilde. She was about average height, a bit taller than Matilde, and had brown hair and blue/green eyes.

The girl asked if she was okay. Oh no. The girl, who said her name was Quinn, had clearly seen her fling the slippers off her feet, like she was deranged or something. Had she looked like she was about to cry? Matilde blushed fiercely. “Uh yeah, I’m fine, I just… I didn’t realize these are made out of pygmy puffs,” She said, her voice going a bit quiet at the end of the sentence. “I just uh, really like animals so…” Matilde didn’t know what else to say. She hoped Quinn didn’t think she was weird. Not everyone understood her refusal to wear animal skins and eat meat. She had even been made fun of in her childhood on occasion for being a vegetarian. She had been raised vegetarian, though she always thought that even if she hadn’t been, she would have made the choice on her own. She had inherited her mother’s care for animals.

Suddenly, she remembered that Quinn had asked her name. “Oh, my name is Matilde. Or Tilly. I don’t really mind either name.”

The girl looked up and blushed fiercly. Quinn tried to suppress a giggle then laughed.
"Um, I don't think that the slippers-pygmy puff slippers-are made of puffskins." Quinn swallowed her laugh then looked back at the girl. Matilde? What a pretty name. I wonder why people would call her tilly? Oh because of the "till" in matilde. Quinn smiled to herself as she figured it out.
"I care about animals to, there just so sweet!" Quinn put her own slippers on and savored the joy of warm feet. Quinn grinned at Matilde-or Tilly. Quinn didn't know which she perfered. Quinn wondered what she should say to Tilly.
"So, the water was really cold right." Quinn said. Quinn looked around at the lake behind her. It was innocently sitting there, acting like it hadn't just froze a ton of people. Quinn wondered again what bad desicion making skills in her head had lead her to talk to a complete stranger. Probobly the compassionate side. Quinn thought.
"So do you have any pets? I don't, at least not since my dog died." Quinn suddenly felt like she had said to much on pets. Quinn wished she hadn't brought up her dog.
"It's fine don't worry, she was an old dog." Quinn reassured Tilly before she could be sad about Quinn.

Tracey saw Minnie swimming over to her and Kaitlyn which made her very happy. She's now with her two new friends! Her already yellow tinted hair is probably turning even more yellow. She looked back at the lake and noticed that she still had brown hair, just more yellow highlights. She then heard Kaitlyn speak and she nodded her head before whispering,
"He tried to leave while we were cleaning. Other people heard the sound of the pots crashing. But, in the end he ended up helping,"
She then added,
"I don't really like yellow. And now I have more yellow highlights! Maybe I will go purely blonde. How does this look?"
Tracey finally allowed her hair to fully change to a blonde color. She then heard Minnie speak and she smiled at her other new friend and shook her head before saying,
"You weren't intruding! We were talking about swimming! What d'you think of the idea of swimming in the lake with staff supervision? I was also telling Kaitlyn a secret about what happened with a certain Ravenclaw boy. I could tell you too! Oh, also, how d'you like my new hair color? I got tired of my hair always turning yellow, so I just went fully blonde,"
Tracey took a break from talking. She had indeed just stated this she was a Metamorph, but she felt much better showing her ability to others and talking about it. She then heard Minnie talking about leaving the lake and she nodded her head before saying,
"Sure! What if he just sit on the ground without legs in the water?"
Tracey wasn't sure if the other two would follow her, but she lifted herself up and sat at the edge of the shore, with her feet still in the water. She looked at her two new friends wondering if they'd join her.

I grabbed one of the little rocks and a blue coloured marker from a box out in front of me. It was pretty cold outside, I wondered why we couldn’t do this on a warmer day, oh well I shrugged it off. “Wait what should I write? 2023 was a great year is there really anything I wanna leave behind there?” after a few good minutes of intense pondering, I finally decided to write: In 2024, I swear I will do everything that I can to not make any more enemies, 2023 had enough. That’s right, enemies were the only bad thing about 2023, I didn’t want to get myself into any more trouble with them this year. By the time that I was done deciding what to write and actually writing it, I was shivering. The wind had really gotten to me by now.

I stood around another few minutes as we waited for everyone to finish up, though I was already one of the last people. ugh I’m gonna freeze to death in there I thought. I listened to the Caretaker explain what we’d be doing, still shaking trying to warm up. Hah stay in that water? No thanks, I’ll go in , drop the rock, and get out thank you very much. Then, it was time to go. I rushed towards the water with everyone else, and went about halfway deep in the marked off pool. It took me a second to remember what we were doing, the water was super cold. “Right, drop it” I muttered. My fist had been so tightly clenching the rock it took a moment before it started to fall. Down, down to the floor of the Lake. I wasn’t so deep but I’m sure it’ll get washed farther away at some point, to be all forgotten about. Maybe this wasn’t so bad actually. I had been so focused on the rock and watching it intently as it started to sink, I didn’t really realize how I was adjusting to the water. Sure it was cold, but the part of me that was under wasn’t as cold as the rest of me. Taking a deep breath in through my nose, I quickly sank down to my shoulders, fully submerged other than my head. I gasped, now it was cold again. 1 2 3 4 5. 1 2 3 4 5 I counted in my head, trying to create yet another distraction from the temperature. My eyes were squeezed shut, my chest heaving up and down taking in the still cold air. Once again, the water didn’t seem as cold, and I was warming up. Hmm, maybe I could stay here the full five minutes, it could be like, my little “new year new me” sort of thing, wash away all that 2023-ness I thought.
When it was finally time to come out, I dragged myself up back to the solid, dry ground around me. My toes and my fingers felt numb, and I hadn’t actually noticed that before. “Wow, that was actually kind of nice” I said so quietly, I don’t think anyone could have possibly heard even if they were listening. “Well hello there 2024”.

Axyen had just gotten out of the lake, and he was still shivering and freezing. 'I will never do that again.' Axyen thought to himself, as he tried to shake off some of the cold. That sadly did not work as one would expect. Axyen felt a small urge to cast the Incendio and sit by the fire, but he imagined that wouldn't really be allowed especially in-front of the caretaker, so that option was out of the question. The final and most obvious option was to simply deal with it, there was nothing else Axyen could outside of that, for the time being he could just go claim his reward now, but then all of a sudden a familiar voice called out to Axyen. Naturally, Axyen turned in the direction where he heard the voice, and smiled and waved back at the sight of a familiar face. It was Tristian, the Slytherin he met in the library as well as the owner of the Gobstones club.

"Oh, hi Tristan!" Axyen said happily in response to Tristan's greeting. "It's nice to see you as well!" Axyen added in response to what Tristan said. Axyen was glad that someone was actually talking to him. Axyen remembered he wanted a few friends, he was mostly quiet and typically avoided social interaction but now he was making more friends than he was expecting and also enjoyed more social interactions, even if he didn't really start said interactions. But still, it was a massive improvement. Tristan asked Axyen how he was, with a smile Axyen replied. "I am doing awesome! How about yourself?" Axyen asked. Axyen was hoping that talking with Tristian would help Axyen be distracted enough to be able to forget about the cold. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case as Axyen could still feel the chill breeze blow against his face, causing occasional shivers. His ankles being drenched in ice-cold water a few seconds earlier never helped as well as his legs were shaking slightly. Axyen could easily imagine that no students were intending on staying in the water for more than thirty seconds but for now he would wait for Tristan to reply.

The cold did not seem to bother Tristan as much as it seemed to bother Axyen. Perhaps he had built a tolerance or perhaps it was because he was older, but either way, he was not cold enough for his teeth to chatter as Axyen was. Well in actuality, it probably was the three jackets he was wearing at the moment, the ones he put on after he got out of the icy cold lake. He smiled back at Axyen and took off one of his own jackets and offered it to him, “Axyen, you seem really cold, here, wear one of my jackets, I got plenty as you can see, and I do not want you to catch a cold even if you would be able to get Pepper Up from the nurse at that point.” He held out the jacket in expectation. As he awaited for Axyen to take the jacket he answered the questions he heard him ask a few seconds ago, “Yes, I’m doing quite a bit better this year than the last few years of my life. Happy in fact. This reminds me however that we never got to our plans to teach you about Muggle Culture as we had talked about in the library. Did you ever get around to it on your own or should plan it again for the future sometime, sometime when it’s warm of course.
Tristan suddenly saw himself in third person and was surprised that he genuinely was a changed person from the years prior like he said. It was fascinating how happiness could change a person, creating a far more empathetic and supportive character in himself than he ever was. It was all due to a change in beliefs in the summer and it truly was a change in himself too. In fact, it was almost like he was born again if he could describe it so. He had been quite depressed all these years he realised, shutting down his emotions whenever it appeared on his face, analysing everything to its minute detail, treating life as a dangerous playing field that no one could ever enjoy. He finally could treat life like a child again, gaining back the joy of the eight year old that had lost his way, oh so long ago, when his best friend died. His friend must be happy to see him this way, happy and healthy, smart as he always was. In fact, he was more like who he was before his friend died than he ever was in the years prior. He had become the genius who used intellectualism as a crutch to connecting to humanity and now in a miraculous way he could genuine enjoy the company of new friends and enjoy academics as it was supposed to be enjoyed, a fun subject that could teach him what he wanted to learn, something he did for fun. A genuine smile sparked on his face at the thought and warmth sparkled in Tristan’s eyes, he almost wanted to laugh at the bubbling joy in his heart. The cold definitely did not bother him anymore and he actually had a person who was glad to see him for the first time in a while, in the genuine way, a friend not a strange acquaintance and alliance, a person he would hold at arm’s end, like predators circling each other and using each other to attack other enemies. He realised his first quasi-friendship with Leonard was this way, a dance of mental chess where each sized each other up like snakes, ready to attack if they deemed the other a danger to themselves. Well, this was all about to change. This year, Tristan, as a fifth year, decided to make friends, genuine friends, like Hufflepuffs and Gryffindors do, not the political friendships that seem to dominate Slytherin like ants chewing on the trashed brownie, left over from someone who enjoyed almost all of it. No, he would allow himself the whole brownie, if he could use such a metaphor for relationships. He would find a friendship like Sherlock and John, like Achilles and Patrocles, like David and Jonathon, and like every other loyal friendship where one would did for each other, a friendship that was deeper than romance, soulmates, Th’yla, as one of the famous muggle television series announced about James T. Kirk and Spock. He shook his head as he realised he probably was on this train of thought for a long time. Axyen probably thought he was weird; in fact he was probably staring at him. The genuine smile transformed into a sheepish one as he became slightly embarrassed at the thought. So, Tristan spoke sheepishly, “So, please take the jacket…, please

Axyen was caught off guard when Tristian took off his jacket and offered it to Axyen because Axyen seemed cold. Axyen wasn't really expecting that, his general plan was to head inside and enjoy a nice, warm dinner and then heading to the comfort of his warm dormitory and falling asleep for the night. At least that was all the basic plans he had in mind for the rest of the remaining day. Axyen remembered he should also study Potions too if he wants to pass with his awful memory. Axyen was thinking about it for a moment, did he want to study today or tomorrow? He decided to just get it over with today at some point later one. Still Axyen didn't want to bother Tristian(there is no actual logic behind how taking Tristian's offer will bother him) so shook his head in response to Tristian's offer. "It's fine, I am not too cold." Axyen said, the cold was bearable enough to the point that Axyen was willing to run in an ice-cold lake, so he surely couldn't be that cold. He would be able to handle it and make it back inside of the castle, so he didn't really need the jacket too much. Well hopefully the weather didn't get worse, but Axyen doubted that was even possible anyways. How could the weather possibly get any worse than this?

Tristian would begin responding to Axyen, which Axyen listened carefully which was something Axyen had always been good at. Tristian said that he was doing better than how he was doing in the previous few years, the way Tristian said it sounded like he wasn't happy before. Axyen wondered why, maybe it was simply just poor wording? Axyen was reminded that they never got around to talking about or doing activities relating to Muggles and their culture. "Huh?" Axyen thought for a moment, before the memory finally popped up in his head. "Oh right!" Axyen exclaimed. "So I didn't really get to do anything relating to Muggles, but I did do some more research on them." Axyen replied. "Maybe when it's a lot more warm, so yeah we should try and plan something out." Axyen added in reply to Tristian. Tristian seemed lost in thought, which Axyen could relate to many times. He decided it was best to not break this line of thought until Tristian suddenly spoke up insisting that Axyen took the jacket, something seemed different about his tone but Axyen couldn't tell what it was. "Well.... are-are you sure?" Axyen asked Tristian, not taking the jacket for the moment.
